What kind of excerise is everyone doing?
Petphoto replied to karri68's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on January 29, 2008. I have lost 35 pounds now. I exercise 3 to 4 times a week. I use the Precor cross trainer for 35 minutes, followed by 20 minutes of either the stationary bike or the rowing machine at our local Wellness Center. Is 35 pounds a good weight loss for this amount of time? -
Sounds like you are doing great. I lost 50# before anybody noticed! You are overthinking things but rapid weight loss releases hormones so many of us felt emotional in those early months. You will do fine.

I Just LOVE it so....can't congtain myself
Bandista replied to B-52's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks for this, B-52. I have been a little lame in the exercises department and I need to GET BACK. I love it when I am "worked out." I need that. For pain management, for feeling flabby, etc. The heck with weight loss (love that, too), I need exercise for every reason. Have had a difficult month -- bloody cold came back, blah, blah, blah, can't walk or even BE outside and last spring, summer, fall I really owned a particular four-mile fast walk around a gorgeous lake. Meanwhile our basement with treadmill, etc. is cold (that is actually good, just got to get my lazy you know what in motion for ten minutes and temp is perfect). Need to get my act together. Exercise partner should be able to get here tomorrow (we are BURIED in snow) and I'm going to work on motivation whether that is new music, etc. Miss my working out. Thank you. -
Hey Cristina - and welcome! The process depends A LOT on your insurance. Do you know if it covers WLS? If so, you need to find out the requirements they have to approve it. For example, my insurance company required me to have 5 years of weight records from my pcp, lose 10% of body weight (from my heaviest), psych eval, a BMI of over 40 or 35-40 with comorobitites. Some insurce companies require a 6-month doctor supervised weight loss, some a 90-day. It all depends... and most is based on your insurance.

First of all it sounds like you definitely need a fill. I am a veteran of fills and eventhough everyone is different as to where their sweet spot is...I was not restricted at all under 2.0cc of fill. I currently have 2.6cc of fill and although I am quite restricted right now I will be getting another fill in 3 weeks because my weight loss is slow. I am 7 months out like you are and I have only lost 40lbs. I am disappointed that the weight loss hasn't been faster, but I am also grateful for the 40lbs gone. I feel so much better! As for 3 meals a day, from what I have been told by my personal trainer, who is a fitness guru and may other medical people in health and weight loss...6 small meals a day is optimum and keeps your blood sugar level more even. It doesn't overload your system with a lot of food at one time that creates an insulin response. It will keep you more satisfied and less likely to overeat at one meal. The band is a perfect tool for this way of healthy eating. When we reach the right level of restriction we can't eat much at one meal to begin with. According to my doctor, he wants his patients to get in 60 to 80g of protein a day and that is hard to do in 3 meals with a properly filled band.Good luck with your next fill! Spring 278/238/165

Okay just starting a new thread: Weight loss this week: 3.2 kgs (7lbs) Exercise this week: 2 X 4 km (2 mile) walk I moved to mushies yesterday and from yesterday to today I've not lost anything. I suspect my body was so starved it's grabbing on to every calorie it can! Lol! That's okay, I've made a resolution anyway. No more scale-stalking during the week. From now on, I weigh in only on Fridays with all you lovely people. Alright all, let's check in!

4 Weeks Out and I Gained a Pound??
BetsyB replied to mujer555's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless you changed your eating habits considerably, chances are, the gain isn't "real." That is, you did not gain a pound of body fat. Human body weight fluctuates. Many things influence it--hormones, stress (this, too, is hormonal), hydration status, how much bulk there is in the intestine at weigh-in time....and on and on and on. The scale helps us gauge the changes in our bodies, but really, it just gives a snapshot of one particular moment in time---and that picture can be distorted by factors that are not related to what is really going on, in terms of fat loss. Take a deep breath, keep doing what you're doing, and the scale will cooperate--sometimes! (Other times, it will be putzy, and you'll see stupid, senseless gains. You'll learn to put them in perspective and keep on keeping on.) -
Post op Stone feeliing left side of stomach
Candace76 replied to alandk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I had some spots near my incision sites that felt like a mass. I am not sure if that is what you are describing. I thought it might be a hematoma or seroma. I did call the doctor's office a few days after I got out from the hospital, as I was was worried about it. He told me to put a warm compress on it and said to keep an eye on it. He thought it was likely a hematoma. At my 1 month post op the nurse practioner identified it as scar tissue. It was the size of a baseball a few days after surgery, it is now the size of a grape. Mine was sore to the touch, but isn't now (at almost 2 months post op). I think it is best you call the doctor, so you can describe it to them, and they can tell you if it needs medical attention, if you just need to keep an eye on it, or if it is a normal part of the healing process. Good luck with your weight loss process & wishing you a healthy recovery. 😊🍀 -

I am new to this forum. I had RUX-N-Y on November 20, 2012. So far I have lost 19lbs. Unfortunately, I have gained and lost the same 1lb for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this. I am walking more, taking in more protein and trying to eat a little more (which is very difficult to do) to try and jump start my weight loss again. I am so afraid that I won't lose anymore weight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2 and 1/2 months out
sctty_MO replied to Jami Koehling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting in your daily liquid intake? I stall ever time I have a hard time getting to proper amount of fluids. Stalls came when I was reincorporating food and fluids fell to way side. Only other advice I can give is walk regularly and take your Vitamins. It really helps! Good luck on your weight loss. Hope this helps even a little bit. -
A VSG procedure results in reducing the capacity of your stomach. That's it. That's all it does. I have NEVER read of a true "failed" sleeve. Stalls are normal. Failing to meet goal is not uncommon. Gaining all your weight back can happen. But NONE of these so called failures are the result of your sleeve not doing what it's supposed to do. "failures" are thpically the result of poor choices, unrealistic expectations, certain medications that cause weight gain, and/or other medical conditions. However, if you can eat 4-6 cups of food in one sitting, then yes, you have a failed sleeve. And, like cowgirljane mentioned, you can't possibly declare weight loss success or failure until you are at the very least a year or two out. And true success is really never reached....you not failing your sleeve is a challenge to be met every day for the rest of your life.

Maybe because I started at such a high BMI but I was never hungry in between meals. In fact at first I was making myself eat or drink. Then I went through a period when I wasn't interested in food at all. I only weight monthly so I've never stepped on the scale and not shown a loss. The only significant change was in the beginning the weight loss went back and forth between big numbers and smaller numbers. 14mths out and I am pleased as punch with my sleeve.

Today was my first day of my 90 day weight loss management! I met with the PA and the surgeon and went over a food plan. So excited!! Even though I'm only required to lose 12 lbs I'm going to try for at least 30lbs for surgery. Went to costco stocked up on good healthy food and Protein bars they recommended went home and meal prepped for the week, and now I feel like im good to go. Taking it one day at a time Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Congrats! Thanks for sharing!! You should stick around and post!! Congrats on your successes and so sorry for the loss of your parent. -
I haven't had my WLS surgery yet but to be honest, braids during my surgery is ideal. I say this because I had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago and had my hair in long senegalese twists. I remember worrying about my twists being a problem but I just threw it in a bun at the top of my head and had absolutely no problems -- it never got in the way and I was in the hospital for 3 nights. I think that as long as you're able to put it up, you shouldn't have any problems at all during your hospital stay. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!

My doctor asked me if I would rather lose hair or not lose weight. He also asked if I had seen any bald patients from WLS. My hair has been falling out for about 2 months (suregery was 2/9/12). I have thick hair too and I think it looks like I am losing even more since it is long too. I am finding it hard to adjust to thin hair and can't wait til it grows back in. I have been taking Biotin and an extra vitamin a day, but that doesn't seem to help at all.
