I started at 224, had my surgery Nov. 29th and am now down 57lbs. I was discouraged because it felt like my weight was coming off very slow. I just did the best I could and let it go. Now I am finally feeling like a real dent has been made. I am losing maybe 1.5 lbs a week, but it keeps coming off and other than walking I am not exersizing. Hope this helps in some way. I know that I was discouraged too but it keeps coming off slowly.

What's a PCP document? No. Sorry if that was confusing. In that sentence "PCP" is a noun and "document" is a verb. Have your PCP (preferred care provider), that's your regular doctor, start documenting any instances of rashes, chafing, or infection from the excess skin. That documentation can help make a case to your insurance company that skin removal is medically necessary if they even cover skin removal under any circumstances. You would want to contact your insurance company to see if skin removal is even an option. I know my insurance provider will not cover skin removal after weight loss surgery even if you can provide proper evidence of medical necessity. It says so very explicitly in my policy.

Have you been "cured" of your type-2 diabetes with Lap-Band?
GipsyGirl replied to krafticus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started at 260lbs with a goal weight at 150. ( 110lbs overweight ) female I was taken off my diabetic medications next day after the surgery. Since then my number wasn't higher than 120 - usually it keeps itself at 90. Since lap band I am not supposed to eat carbs anyway so it works for me. Good luck. -
I never was an emoitional eater, I was a volume eater. I do get hungry and I do still want to eat, but it is different now. It is weird to explain, but eating is just not fun any more!! I can not eat much and really don't look forward to it like I used to. I do it to live now and not for entertainment. I am 4 months out on Monday and you really learn to adjust to the small portions and it really is o.k.! I make much better food choices now and don't eat crap. If I want something tho, I have it because I eat so little of anything, it really doesn't hurt my weight loss. Good luck to you! Kelly

Hey Guys I Need Some Advice....
Z28ChevyCamaro replied to sleevinIT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My situation is almost the same as yours. Except for the fact that instead of my boyfriend of 3 years, its my dad of 22 years. He is absolutely against me having this surgery and wishes that I could just 'work' the weight off. He thinks I'm cheating by having this surgery. I have severe back problems which is why I'm having the surgery done. In hopes that it will relieve the strain on my back. I keep telling myself that this is for me. Nobody else. I want to improve my way of life. Plus, I don't want to be one of those ladies riding around Wal-Mart because I'm too fat to walk to get the groceries I need. That is my self motivation. Do it for you. If he loves you for you, he will stay and realize that you're doing this for your own good. If he leaves, let him leave. With the way you'll look, I don't think you'll worry about him walking out! Good luck, love! -
Has anyone had any form of the DS surgery in Toronto, Canada?!
k95 posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Would love to hear your stories! I've had the sleeve done, but not much success with it (you can read my story which I posted here for a better understanding: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/360924-my-unsuccessful-sleeve/) After some long and intense research, I truly feel like the Loop DS is the tool which my body needs to get this weight loss going. I feel like the sleeve is an amazing tool but as we are all different I guess my body needed more than just the sleeve itself. Looking forward to any options/stories!! -
I don't get banded until monday ( 10/1 ) but I wanted to know of anyone saw a difference in the body about 3 weeks after the surgery. my mom is getting remarried 3 weeks after my surgery and I am a bridesmaid in the wedding. I have already bought the dress for the wedding . I am kind of scared that it won't fit right or that I will have to get alterations done to it because of weight loss .

In NC our local new station did a consumer reports thing on it and basically it's junk. You would be better off buying standard hand weights and use those during work outs or when walking. The only buy off TV work out equipment that I have that has worked well is a total gym. I do a 30 min session every other day on it. My strenght has increase along with my balance and how I feel. Plus, more muscle ups my metabolism.

Thank you for that, I went to my first support meeting tonight. It was encouraging to actually see people and sit and listen. Most of my questions were answered and I know I can do this. With this forum and the actual support group, I know I can do this. The good totally out weight the bad.

Hello! I had my gastric sleeve done on July 15 of this year and I AM NOT planning on waiting the 1-2 years to start trying again. We require fertility intervention to get pregnant (hoping not as much since I've lost 65lbs so far) but we've already started trying. My fertility doctor is one of the best in his field and has cleared me to move forward. I have one son luckily who took a year to conceive but I want more. Are there any newly thinner mommies that are moving forward with TTC dreams? Any luck so far, experiences, things that have helped?? I would love to create some connections here to support my weight loss and baby creation journeys.

Improvement in Facial Hair After Surgery?
Debbiebydesign replied to Smilejoelle1's topic in The Gals' Room
Makes sense...losing weight can help PCOS, which can cause facial hair. -

It's up to your Dr.....I was released to do just about anything after 1 week....then he said go easy with weight lifting for 2-3 weeks..... But now, I do whatever I want as though the band was not even there....so it does not Handicap you from your normal day to day.....

New to all this....Made it to phase 2 of 5 can't decide between gastric vs lapband
pnw replied to pnw's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you - all your comments have been most helpful. Everyday I lean towards the band. I am now ready to verify my weight for the 2nd time (-5%). I will be referred to my center and good to go. Sweets note - I don't partake daily anymore - in fact I can walk away for weeks at a time but the days I do hit a cookie - I feel really bad (physically) - so I think I can walk all the way. I do get cold feet about this now and then. I feel bad guilty that I need this procedure. My family history is loaded with obesity and I fear that I am on that path no matter how hard I work at this. It all started with cholesterol numbers then my scale numbers then my liver started to yell at me then my gallbladder. How can I lose 5% of this weight and not more or keep it off? I work out daily and yet - the numbers do not go below 200. I am 5 2. See PCP today -
HI TB07 Do I guess correctly based on the fact you are more comfy with kg than pounds that you are another Aussie- if thats the case double welcome ( I am in Adelaide south Australia) The amount of pain etc that people get post op and how quickly they recover varies tremendously and ther doesn't often seem to be much rhyme or reason why one person sails through and another struggles a bit- It will get better though, it s major surgery so even a week off work s not that bad really. the gas pain etc is usally the cultprit, for some people t causes irritation that s felt as shoulder/chest pain evn after the gas has been absorbed The post op diet I was given was pretty much like yours but you are right it varies a whole from surgeon to surgeon I was banded quite some time ago but have had a lot of other medical problems to deal with that kinda put a stop on weight loss- so I am a born again bandster and have gone from 175 kg(385pounds) to 150kg ( 330pounds) since November- still a long way to go but gettng there nice to meet you - i'm new to this board too but it does provide great support Karen

I was sleeved 4 weeks ago tomorrow on 4/9. The whole process was really easy for me, almost no pain from surgery, no gas pain, no nausea, I was able to walk right away it was all pretty easy. The first 9 days I dropped weigh fast, I went down 24 pounds which was amazing and scary at the same time as I was afraid it was "too good" so to speak. Unfortunately that seems to be the case, since that initial weight loss I have only lost 2 pounds. I know its not all about the pounds and I know its common to stall......but is this common? I never meausred myself but I know my body has changed so that is positive but I have to say I am concerned. A little about my history. I have NEVER been thin, I have always carried extra weight and it has been a mystery. I eat very healthy with an occasional (maybe once month) splurge on some type of junk food like chicken fingers, pizza or chinese food, but again it is very occasional. Up until 3 years ago I was weighing in the 160's, this was eating right almost al the time and running about 5 miles 4-5 times a week. Then I got sick and since that time my health has continued to decline, I am not physically able to run at all and excercise has to be strictly supervised and approved and thats only when i'm well enough to attempt to excercise. Fast forward to surgery day I weighed 220 pounds......the only thing that kept me in the 160's was my vigorous excercise. The surgery was to help relieve the pressure on my joints and hopefully make me feel better and be able to be more active and less tired. Now here I am today, wondering if even with this surgery, will I not be able to lose weight. I am anal about getting my fluids and Protein in, I am walking every day and doing the bike at the gym I am feeling very discouraged.....if anyone has been in a similar place I would love to hear your feedback.

I also have UPMC for you. And also go through Hope Bariatrics with Dr. Felix. I do not think they will have an issue with that. They want you to try and lose weight while on the 6 month visits to show that you are committed.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have been busy reading a lot of the different threads. I'm starting down this journey and am a bit nervous but I know I'm doing the right thing. I'm currently waiting through all of the pre-insurance items to be completed before my insurance approval is submitted. Per my carrier, the only requirement is to have a BMI over 40, which I'm at 44.5. I've been overweight every since graduating college. I'm looking forward to eventually getting back down to a reasonable weight, keeping up with my kids, enjoying my hobbies again, and being able to sit in any chair without thinking of how much of my bum is sticking out from the sides :smile2: I decided to go down the lapband route because I felt it was more realistic to have the weight come off slower than RNY patients. Plus, I really was afraid of having such a drastic surgery. Thanks to all who have posted in the past week or so as I'm been eagerly reading thru the threads. I'm an Analyst during the day so I'm big into gathering the info and facts. It makes me feel better about my decision. My family is behind me and supporting me. My mom, well, she says I should try Weight Watchers - which I have - many times - loosing weight and then regaining it again. My friend says the same thing - she doesn't even realize that her words hurt. So, besides 2 other friends who support me, I haven't told anyone else - not even my brother - as I'm just not wanting to have to defend my choice. thanks! Laura

I am about 7 months out and have not had one single issue with my IBS since surgery. I used to have issues probably 3x a week. I self paid for the sleeve and I can say that just fixing the IBS was well worth the money. I do eat oatmeal almost everyday to stay regular with all that Protein. I also can eat anything and not dump. I am at goal weight and couldn't be happier. Good luck- LA

I am 12 days post op and I have been doing pretty well with walking for at least 30 minutes a day. As I loose weight I would like to become more and more active. I have a treadmill which helps but I would like to get motivated walk more even start running. I would also like to start a strength training routine. Choosing the type of work out will be different for many because the goal is to workout and (as much as possible) have fun while doing it. I created this post so we can share with each other exactly what (we) you say to yourself or what you do the moment you are tempted to talk yourself out of working out. What motivates you to get up and do it despite of... I appreciate anyone sharing it will greatly help me to hear your advice and I'm hoping it will help others as well. (BTW I got the Weslo Cadence G 5.9 for $287 Best selling treadmill on Amazon and 3 year warranty less than $50) Best purchase I've made in a LONG time.
