  1. Agreed. STAY OFF THE scale FOR 2 WEEKS! Have someone in your house hide it from you if you have to. It is causing you to focus on a number that is false right now. Think about NSV's as you recover. Chart your nutritional intake in MFP.In 2 weeks, you will hopefully see a number that agrees with your expectations.

    The Kind Words of Strangers

Thanks everyone! What is NSV?? I went to a friends daughters birthday party yesterday. There were lots of old friends there that I havent seen in about a year. Each person saw me and there mouth just dropped. One woman said "you are just melting away!" Another didnt speak to me for about an hour. When I approached her and asked how she was doing, her reply was OMG, Karen is that you. She didnt even recognize me with my weightloss and new hairstyle. I hadnt seen her since right after my surgery 2 yrs ago. I love this. So close to ONEderland. I hope to be there in the next week or two. Thanks for all the support everyone!
  7. Hi all! My highest weight has been 313 at pre op I began at 306 11/25 surgery day: 294 Current weight: 261 Today is 111 days from surgery (week 15) Loss from HW: 52lbs loss from preop: 45lbs loss from surgery: 33lbs I feel great health wise. No hair falls. I am all protein and water. I have had several stalls where I lose inches but not pounds. I feel like I should have lost more. My clothes are all too big. Many NSV's as people are really noticing my face and body getting smaller, but I still would like to have lost a lot more than this!
  8. Wow, you look just amazing. I am so inspired by you. I can't tell you how much I want to have that experience, and be able to buy a wedding dress in a single digit size. Congrats, that is such an wonderful NSV.

    Slow Losers Unite!

Hi Anne, You have done so many good things for yourself and are losing more than enough weight. Give yourself a break. You're doing great! As for your clueless friend... You teach people how to treat you. Teach her you won't allow people to speak to you that way. I have had this same issue with my mother. She thinks negative comments will motivate me. Now every time she says something stupid I call her on it. She doesn't even realize she's doing it half the time. Ugh! Brag about your victories. You have a lot to be proud of! In public is the worst. I was out to luch with the family once and spent half the time spitting my drool and slime into a toilet  To some degree, though not as bad as you mention, it should take a while for things like tuna or well chewed chicken to go down. The guide my Dr told me is take small bites, chew really well, eat about 1 cup of food, don't eat for longer that 20 min. and it should take about 3 hours until you are hungry again. With more solid foods I take a few bites and then have to wait for a small burp before I can eat more. I can tell I'm full when I start to get discomfort and often I will hickup or my nose runs. Weird, huh? My NSV: I made it to water aerobics this morning! This is a big personal victory and I'm proud of myself.

NSV is non scale victory. I could add more each and every day, I really LOVE my band. ~Mandy
  14. 11/9/08 I’ve already begun to pull clothes out of my closet I haven’t worn in years. And that started just a week post-op and continues. I can’t believe it. I am already ….um…..more comfortable with my husband. Okay that was kind of weird putting that down. I’ve moved to weighing myself on the Wii Fit. It says that I’ve lost a total of 27 lbs and I’ve got from a BMI of 49 to 44.11. That is amazing! I was embarrassed of my BMI even on the boards, but I feel more “normal” for a new bandster now. I’ve upped my calories to 1000-1200 per day. I think that is where I need to be to keep the weight moving and I plan to start back to the gym this week. I haven’t gone to the gym regularly since about May. I hope that will jump start my weight loss even more. I still worry about my port and band and I can’t wait until my first fill. Not just for the fill but to be reassured that everything is ok with my port and band. I don’t know what I will do if I need a revision. Self pay means I definitely have to worry about that stuff!

    April 2006 Bandits January Challenge

Roberta, congratulations on meeting the January challenge! Your accomplishment deserves special kudos because it was achieved despite the health and physical issues that have challenged you this month. Thank you for the inspiration you have given us. Julie, your mentoring idea is brilliant! Definitely count me in. Here's the thing, when you run the race on Sunday, I want you to visualize this entire group standing along the route -- actually, jumping up & down in excitement -- and cheering you on big-time. We will definitely be with you in spirit! (And if you tell me what time the race begins, I will make it a point to be there at the right time.) You run, girl, and run good! We love you. Betty, your weekend away in Palm Springs sounds fabulous. Hooray on your impressive finish in the Mah Jong tournament! I love those tiles, and I wanna learn how to play too! A guest at my Christmas bash was wearing a bracelet made of antique Mah Jong tiles, and it was the prettiest thing I ever saw. Kat & Dawn: I'm directing healing thoughts your knees' way. Kat, so good of you to fly out to Denver for SIL's knee surgery. Hope all goes well. Amourette, thanks for letting us (a little way) into your new dating life. It's so gratifying to hear about an NSV that's a Romance, and we're hanging on each new chapter! Boo, your brother is a world-class skier??!! How cool is that! And then there's our own Julie, a child-prodigy world-champion-level domino player. This is such a cool group! And I note that our endeavors now embrace even bigger athletic feats, like marathon running. April 2006 Bandits January Challenge: 25 days of exercise completed

Bluehill....14/16 pants are truly a NSV. How in the world did you keep those 22/24's up????? :-) Just got back from belly dancing....55 mins. workout. I'm starting to get congested so I know the weather is changing. Tomorrow evening the temp. is going to start to drop with a possibility of snow; and Friday with the wind chill it will be minus 5 on Long Island.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Blessed Twice - It is great to see you again! I know you must be facing new challenges every day - but the fact that you are doing so well says you can do it!! 153 pounds is great - is that your target, or just a stop on the weightloss journey?? Size 10 - YAY you! I know all about the exercise challenges - bah humbug! YAY on the NSV! And you're right - it isn't about a number. It is where you are happy and feel good about yourself. I know my doc still thinks that I, at 5'5" and big-boned, should strive for 117 - 125...but I think it just isn't going to happen. And frankly, I'm not sure how I would look at that weight. However, I am going to the clinic next week and shall have another wee chat about it and the reflux I am starting to have. HLori - mother of a teenager...that only lasts for 9 years!!!:Banane56::laugh: I know what you mean about fighting the 150's - just keep the faith...exercise (says she who is ignoring that same thing) and eating right. And yes everyone - just keep swimming!!! Have a great weekend...

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

GOOD MORNING! Hi Tap, I'm always around. Well most of the time. I just don't have much to report on. Well, here's a bit of an NSV you all might want to hear about. I haven't worked a Friday since early November of last year. The reason is our State is in financial crisis. I've always already gotten every other Friday off, however with us having two Furlough days off per month it just worked out to where I hadn't worked one in a very long time. Now my Dept has been exempted during our most busy time. I work for Emergency Services so it makes good sense. Anyway, to Celebrate I decided to bring with me a dozen (very fresh) donuts, some bran muffins and orange juice. Everyone chowed down on the donuts, but the bran muffins havent been touched! ROFL!! Well, this brings me to my NSV. Even though I put out the money for the donuts I didn't have NOT ONE! Besides that, so many other Depts around me brought goodies too. They even made waffles in the Directors Office and was invited to get some if I wanted. Did I? NOOOOO!!!! So, that's my story of the day! Have a nice weekend all!!!
  20. Grats to all of you. Tap - A size 8? Wow! What a truly wonderful NSV. That's gotta help motivate you. Yay. Enjoy your trip. SLG - Way to go! You have to be just glowing. I think that's even better than the losing 100 pounds mark. Shiny - I bet it feels so good to be losing a good chunk of weight again. I know you were fighting up and down for a while. Keep it up. Nicole - Glad to hear your surgery went well. Hope this helps you to be more comfortable and to get enough nutrition to keep up your running pace. I think I'd be scared to death without the band. Did you really feel hungry right away? Well, I know you can handle it. You've done really, really well with the program.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Yes I did run yesterday. More than normal because I wanted to watch the whole American Idol results show while at the gym. So I ran 2.5 miles and walked probably another half a mile or more. Felt great. Yesterday I was in the kitchen trying to entertain my 2 year old as he was whining in the high chair. I started doing jumping jacks which he loved. I kept doing them and realized they were surprisingly easy. I kept going until I had done 50 of them and could have kept going for another 50 I think. Very cool NSV.
  22. Can I eat (insert food here) after Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy WLS surgery? The answer is... most likely. It's really going to depend on the person and how you have healed. I have not found any food that I could not eat, once I was back on full foods post-op. Surprisingly, the processed foods/snack foods/fast food was the easiest to digest. It was the healthy foods - boneless skinless chicken breasts, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, pineapple, apples and grapes that gave me trouble up until about the 6 month mark. At 9 months post-op, I can eat anything I want with only the occasional stomach growl. The best NSV post-op is that I have not wanted all those processed/fast foods that I craved pre-surgery. I can honestly say that I don't even think about going out for pizza or hamburgers any more. So if you're worried about not being able to eat your favorite foods post-op, you may come to realize that post-op you don't WANT to eat them ever again. :-)
  23. My 2 cents worth here, but I think everyone will lose at different rates, but another thing to watch is the inches we are losing. I may not be losing weight as rapidly as i'd like, but with the walking, and additional exercises, I see it in my clothes. I'm just over 5 weeks out from surgery (Banded on November 26th, 2008) and i've lost a total of 16 lbs since my surgery. However, i've lost 35 lbs total, with the 2 week diet before, and over 25 inches over my whole body! So check the inches too!!! Last night I visited with my Sister and her family, and she's about 4 inches shorter, and 100 lbs lighter than me, or used to be. She gave me a sweater that she thought might fit and I thought she was crazy. But, I wore it to work today!!!!! Yeah! Another NSV!!! So count the lbs, definitely, but count the inches, too, and Smile, Smile, Smile  !!!!!

    Banded Bikers II

That tunafish could taste so unbelievably good and that I could get full on half a cup of it!!!!!!!!! I broke the rules by 12 hours and had my first food (mushy) tonight. My tastebuds were dancing!!!!!!!!!!! You would have thought I was eating steak! I did take my time and ate as slowly as I could for being famished LOL. I chewed chewed and chewed until it was completely pulverized, and then I would wait periodically to see how I felt before proceeding. I stopped at about a half a cup and I probably could have had more but I didn't want to push it especially my first meal. Tomorrow morning before we go on our charity ride I will have an egg, two if I can get it down. Again, I don't want to push it, especially right before going on a ride. I also had an NSV! We went by Open Road Leathers to look for some new chaps for me as my old ones (the ones I bought in November!) were getting way loose on me, especially around the legs. Now, you have to know that they don't size chaps like regular clothes. Don't know why but they run WAY small. So the chaps I got in November were 6X (ugh) despite the fact that I was actually 2X at the time. Well, today I got into 4X chaps!!! Two whole sizes! I purposely got them nice and tight so that I would be able to wear them for a while before having to get another pair when I lose more weight. I normally wouldn't even bother getting something like this until I have lost all my weight but I wear my chaps even during the summer as it keeps the engine heat from burning my legs. Oh! I took off the steri strips on the three small incisions today. They were starting to come off anyway and they were annoying me. One of them probably wasn't quite ready to come off but I just put Neosporin on it and covered it with a bandaid. It will be fine in a couple of days. The other two, my port and the big blob of cotton in my belly button are under waterproof tape and okay like they are. Dr. Cywes wanted them to stay on for two weeks. I'll see what those look like then. I did a lot of running around today, brushed down the pool, washed my motorcycle, did a load of laundry, emptied the dishwasher, pulled some weeds and stuff. So I am definitely feeling back to my normal self with the exception of some isolated and periodic soreness in the muscles where my port is. I'm very excited about eating real food again. I can't even begin to explain! I feel like my journey has really begun today. I am starting to eat like a bandster and lead the bandster way of life!
  25. Dave_NW

    If this isn't motivation...

Congratulations, Jenn! NSV's like that are awesome! I was banded five months ago, and have already cleared out my closet twice. I figure I'm never going to be this size again, so if it's too big, out it goes! The best part is having to replace the replacement clothes I bought after the first go-round. When my old clothes started falling off, I replaced things with new stuff that fit right at the time. And now THAT stuff is too big, so is being replaced again. It's a great feeling. People complain about the cost of clothes, but I figure I'm saving SO much by not eating like I used to, I can use that food money toward new clothes. It's a small price to pay, and I look good while I'm losing weight. One dinner out in the old days is equal to a new pair of pants or a dress shirt now. No more Omar the Tent Maker clothes for me.
