I just heard about noom. com on DIY network tonight, has anyone tried them, as yet. They spoke about yo-yodieting and a few other terms near and dear to bariatric people. Is it motivation or what?

Natural Alternative to PPI's Anyone?
CrankyMagpie replied to LAN2k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not a doctor. I have taken the equivalent of a single college class on herbalism (which is more than most people on here, but not enough that you should do anything I say without first doing some research on reliable sources (so, trusted herbalists--I can get you a list--and medical journals, not the Happy Hippie Housewife Homesteader Blog, OK?) and also not without a discussion with your doctor), but when an herbalist wants to help someone with reflux, they start by improving the strength of the esophageal sphincter. Meadowsweet and Solomon's seal are good herbs for that. Um... there really isn't exactly such a thing as bariatric herbalism, though, and a lot of what you find online is going to be way off base. Herbalists who are told you have reflux issues may assume that you have too little stomach acid (for good reason; that's often what's happening with other populations and why food hangs out in the stomach long enough to come back up the esophagus), and they will tell you the wrong things. I am not convinced, for instance, that bitters (which stimulate digestive secretions) would help us, but every herbalist will tell you to try them. I am convinced that fiber's going to be good and helpful, in general, but maybe not especially so for stomach acid. You could try chamomile, which is a very gentle digestive herb for anyone who isn't allergic to it. Ginger and its cousin turmeric are both used for chronic digestive issues, but they are less gentle and could end up exacerbating your problem; I'd start slow and use them with caution. The main thing, if you want to go off PPIs, is that you'll have to avoid any foods you know are problematic for you (real heavy foods, fried foods, spices that don't agree with you, stuff like that). And you cannot have any peppermint. None. It's great for nausea, sure, but it causes reflux for a lot of people. I hope this all helps with your decision, even if the only thing I've conveyed is "this is going to be a lot harder than just finding a couple of herbs." -
Baritastic! It's specifically for bariatric patients and let's you track your water, protein, vitamins, etc. You can set reminders/timers and it has a surgery countdown.

Happy Sunday all! Hope you’re all doing well on your journeys, regardless of where you are 😊 I was just wondering what some of your favorite apps are for weight loss and tracking your progress throughout the wls process. I have a Fitbit so I use that app and MyFitnessPal is good for tracking what I eat. But are there any other apps you like in particular (Bariatric-related apps or non-bariatric related)? I have a tentative surgery date for 12/12, and want to get all my ducks in a row beforehand!

It has made me BETTER, yes traditionally it is cautioned that surgery makes it worse. Nope, I feel validated, it is a new start to a,new life, no longer in the Blue Put of Depression I am now seeing some sunlight🌟🌞🌟., Like alcoholics we never reach a total cure, but I now have the strenght to keep it in the background, inactivated. And my Wellbutrin has helped, went from 150mg Er twice daily pre to 100mg regular 3 times daily afterward. I have lost 64+ pounds since the end of July, something no ordinary diet or even childbirth and lactation did. God Bless Bradley J Needleman MD who took a chance on a 72 obese has-been, bless Ohio State University and his staff ,thank you for my RNY and most of all, for helping ME believe in ME again. Will prayer, a strong will, and the emotional support of others on Bariatric Pal, I BELIEVE,I,AM GOING TO MAKE IT TO MY FINAL VICTORY! And I know you can d9 it too!

How much does Sleeve surgery cost with no Ins ?
sideeye replied to texasnewf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Before you look into self-financing, check whether the ACA plans cover bariatric surgery in your state. It may be worth dropping an employer-backed plan and joining one of the ACA plans for the year, once you've worked out the costs. The ACA plans seem to have decided on bariatric coverage on a state-by-state basis, and some of those may have changed over the years, so make sure you're checking for insurance year 2019 in your state. I believe enrollment is open until Dec 15, but don't wait until the last minute - do your research now and make a decision soon, sometimes the sites get overwhelmed by last-minute signups. -
How much does Sleeve surgery cost with no Ins ?
JessaK replied to texasnewf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went to a private hospital that specializes in Bariatrics. My insurance covered it all because I had met my maximum OOP for the year. We reviewed the statement though a couple weeks back and they billed my insurance 45k. That was for one month in the hospital. I would do some research in your area for facilities that work with cash payers. -
Apollo Overstitch in Tijuana?
Hop_Scotch replied to HopeSpringsEternal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is from my doctor's ESG FAQ https://bmiclinic.com.au/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-faq/ Can I have an ESG following a gastric balloon, gastric sleeve or gastric bypass? ESG following gastric balloon: Recent research has revealed that people who’ve had a gastric balloon do less well following ESG in terms of weight loss. For this reason, we do not recommend ESG to anyone who’s has previously had a gastric balloon. ESG following gastric sleeve: Endoscopic revision of a gastric sleeve is possible, however the weight loss that results is only approximately 10% of the baseline weight. There are likely more effective options which you can talk through with your Bariatric Specialist. ESG following gastric bypass: Endoscopic suturing is possible via a procedure called TORe, Transoral Outlet Revision. -
Hi! I always check for bariatric dating sites and /or just meet up groups here in Michigan and I am not really having any luck. I would love to get a group of people together who have all experienced this journey whether its pre op or post op. Let me know if you guys have any ideas!!

I am now 4 1/2weeks post op. The first 2 weeks I drank the powder multivitamin lemonade flavor now I can’t stand it. So 3rd week I tried the chewable Bariatric Multivitamin with 45 mg of iron it was awful. So this week I tried capsule Bariatric with 45 mg iron once a day I swallowed it but it felt stuck in my throat then just felt nausea. Just wondering what else to do? I hadn’t tried gummies is that any better?

Sounds as though it is working for you, wise dietician. reminded me on a "blue day" we each fight our own battles, blaze our own trails, each have sorrows but at the end we each achieve a victory our size , our shape and that everyone that tries ultimately becomes a Winner! Sometimes when I see others victories, I get envious, I get blinded to the fact that I too am a Winner in the Bariatric Wars even if I don't win this skirmish. I was built for endurance, not exploding in the sprints, So Chug Chug this 🚝this Choo Chop will make it to the Grand Station of Life Yet!

Maybe your Bariatric Team and a Bariatric Dietician/Nutritionist can come up with some equivilencies for YOU. I'm sure in all of New Zealand there have been OTHER CASES like YOU! Stay Strong, Stay Resolute and an Answer Will Be Found! -
Even in the best intentioned and most desired surgeries there is a thread of OMG WTF did I just do to ME? Your body is starting it's healing but you're also suffering from a wounded spirit and your world🌏 has been rocked and is quaking on its foundations. THIS IS A SHOCK! Things do get better, says the woman with a 11 week stomal stricture, but TRULY THEY DO, reach out to your bariatric team, there are people there who can help. And come on here, we too had Gloomy Tuesdays, Why did I do This Wednesdays even F*** It Fridays, we've pulled up our bootstraps, gritted our teeth and made it through. Sometimes even bariatric consouling helps.

SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS
Frustr8 replied to Frustr8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Question for wiser Heads? Why, this Far Out from My Surgery Am I waking up Each and Every Morning with Renewed Nausea? Feel like it's something more than being Foodless. At least at 72 and Widowed I am not Pregnant! Usually that is the 1st thing the outside world suggests. Does this mean my ulcers are worsening instead of healing? Wonder if I try drink8ng water, it's going to come right back,up? Too much time to think and too few answers.😪😭😥😧 -
I will have a confirmed date at my 1/07/2019 sixth months in a row follow up but bariatric doc says looking on track for before January end. Fingers-crossed! I’ve been reading to get guidance of pre-op diet restrictions...nervous but determined.

Fluids after surgery
Frustr8 replied to HoneyBeBrave's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Have anyone made their own protein shake with skim milk, protein powder and sugar free pudding? Seems that Just Might quiet my cravings for different tastes. Gotten so sick of endless vanilla. And yes Alex B as soon as my bank account restocks, so I can afford shipping costs, I will get more Bariatric Pal shakes, the Orange Creamsicle is so very good, I'm sure there are others equally good, as long as I stay away from the Cheesecake flavor. Just can't stand it,is any way, shape or form. Might as well have, what tastes good being,on prolonged liquids for SO VERY LoNG! -
Now this is in San Antonio, Brook Army medical center. I started my journey 28th of August, 2018. Most people have to wait 6 months or so to get through everything and to surgery. I got lucky with my timing and completed the nutritional courses in 1 month and attended the support group that same month. I had most if my lab work done by my doctor (who had a sleeve done last year) who knew what I needed. Bamc is ranked in the top 5 bariatric programs in the United states. One reason I looked into this.

Thanks for the comments. It does bring to question why are sleevers required to take bariatric vitamins for the rest of their lives? We have prescribed the same vitamins as the by passers and is told its because our stomachs are too small to hold enough food to get the required nutrition from our food intake. It makes me wonder if this is just a money maker for the clinics since malabsportion is not an issue. They sell all of these vitamins and such even though you can buy them elsewhere if you choose but they give you a lifelong rx of vitamins. I don't know... you've just got me thinking about it all now LOL...

Hi, my name is Leigh Anne and I’m in the beginning stages of researching bariatric surgery. My husband is retired military so we have Tricare prime. I’ve seen the requirements for surgery and I do qualify according to those, however, I’m unsure how to prove my failed weight loss attempts? Maybe I’m overthinking. Also, the nearest base is about 45 minutes from here, would I be required to have my surgery on base or could I use a network surgeon (if I can find one)? I appreciate any input and advice you may have for me.
