    I MUST BE DREAMING!

Silly no, awesome yes! Congrats on the nsv.
  3. Hi everyone! I've posted a couple times over the past few weeks, but have been reading posts on this site since july when I first began thinking about pursuing this surgery. I just want to thank you all for sharing your experiences here. I already feel I've learned a great deal from all the helpful posts here. With that being said, I finally have a couple of questions of my own to ask. 1). Does your pouch or your remainder stomach growl anymore after the surgery? The reason I ask is that I have a stomach legendary for it's growls. I teach English at anuniversity near Cleveland and students are amazed at how they can hear my stomach sometimes all the way in the back of the room. What a wonderful NSV that would be if that could go away lol. 2). I'm sure others have asked this before, but how much actual hunger have any of you experienced in the days/weeks/months following surgery? I've heard so many different answers to this, and I'd be interested in hearing yours as well. Thanks again! 😊

    Oh Cream Of Potato Soup!

"NSV" stands for "non scale victory".
  5. Popular NSV, me thinks!

    My top 3 anticipated NSVs

Thanks for posting this! I have been thinking about the future NSVs I am looking forward to as well! (I am also pretty excited to be getting closer to them!) I also can't wait to be able to wear clothes that are not plus size! I also look forward to: -buying tall boots in a style that isn't determined by the ones that fit over my calves -sitting at at attached chair/desk comfortably (and not freaking out when I go to a workshop that has them about whether I am going to fit) -sitting in a seat at the movies/in an auditorium without "spillover" into the seat next to me -sitting comfortably in a restaurant booth, even when the table is bolted down I am already seeing some of these, and I'm sure that there will be more that I haven't even considered a possibility as I get closer to goal!
  7. Cindy, great job and great nsvs!
  8. Thanks everyone! Logically I know I need to chill, but I am so freakin' impatient!!! Arrggg!!! I do need to focus on the NSV, like when my husband tells me I'm wasting away I just really really want to make sure that I'm not done losing yet... that is my biggest fear and why I'm chained to the scale. Every time the number doesn't move or it goes up, I freak out a little. I will just keep on keeping on.

    My Nsv So Far :)

This is an awesome thread and helps! My NSVs so far: The steering wheel thing. I actually had just reached the point where my belly was touching the wheel pre-surgery. Not anymore. Clothes are already getting baggy My blood pressure has gone down Aches and pains have almost disappeared Can paint my own toenails again I've lost 25 pounds so far. Only 80 or 90 to go!
  10. vinesqueen

    Someone explain the logistics, PLEASE!

There sure seems to be a rash of this going around. I almost quit because I wasn't losing and I thought I should have been. I felt terrible and actually had a temper tantrum... So, instead of tracking my weight (I'll not be getting on a scale until my next doctor's appointment...) Instead, I'm tracking all my NSVs (Non Scale Victories) http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=8943 since I have no scale victories lately. Tracking these helps me keep focused and on track.

    Just Dance!

How great that you found something you really enjoy. And awesome NSV, by the way!
  12. I too was a high BMI when I started this journey last Sept, it took a good 50-60 pounds before anyone really noticeds any change, which was like 3 months. But now at 120 pounds lost everyone notices, it will happen I can barely go through a day without someone stopping me and telling me how awesome I look, (tho I still have another 45 pounds to go). Be patient it will happen. But also dont just look at your clothes or other people for NSV's/ Do you feel like you move a bit more freely, do your feet hurt less, can you breathe easier?
  13. NSV means Non-Scale Victory. Like when the scal doesn't move but you drop a pants size, or you can cross your legs normally when you couldn't before, you don't have to use a seatbelt extender on an airplane anymore, etc.
  14. Ok, here's my NSV for the week.... I decided to start riding my recumbent bike again (I hate exercise). I picked up right where I left off 9 months ago - same program, distance, pace, etc. My peak HR back then was 130-135. Now it is only 110-115. And along those same lines, before surgery, my BP had crept up to 132/95. Last visit to my PCP it was 106/68. My ❤️ loves my sleeve! By the way, welcome everyone to the no scale challenge! Keep those NSVs coming.
  15. Kindle: thanks for this thread! I do not currently own a scale, just weighing in at the doctors when I go. I was one month out yesterday, and I have been amazed this last week at how much I can function normally without being out of breath and sweaty at work( I teach at a LARGE high school). I have a long way to go, but feeling normal within my work environment is a great feeling. BTW, I have more than 200 pounds still to lose, so looking forward to lots of NSVs to come!
  16. Yesterday I saw one of my sisters-in-law who I haven't seen for a couple months. She was going on and on about how awesome I look and how jealous she was. She asked me what I weigh now and when I told her she said that I was 10 lbs less than her. I could not believe it because I have always considered her to be slim. Sure she has some more padded areas, but that's not unusual for a 50 year old mother of two. To know that I weigh less than her is incredible to me. We are very close in height so that doesn't make a big difference. At 6 months out and feeling like the scale isn't moving fast enough this was a great NSV.

Hey All~ Last night my girlfriend dragged me outta the house and we went to see a local band play and a venue in Poughkeepsie. The boys in the band work at the Haunted House that Im involved in (girlfriend works there too) and we always go to their shows to support them. Anyway.......We buy their cd's and stuff......so they get a little extra $$ from the show.......Last night we bought tee shirts with their logo on it. I typially buy tee's size 2X or sometimes 3X....Last night, the tee that I bought was a LARGE... There were no numbers or extra X's before or after the size....JUST THE LETTER "L"~~~~ I thought it was a bit tight, but my girlfriend said it looked good~ Guess I am just use to swimming in my clothes or covering totally up with clothes....that when I get in the right size I freek out thinking its too small. I am beyond PROUD!! (FYI If you wanna check out the boys band, see their website http://www.juniperrock.com/ or on MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/juniper their website is under construction so some stuff may not be up and running yet..you can actually hear their music at the myspace addy, they are Alternative Rock...) ~TALK TO YOU LATER FRIENDS~
  19. I've experienced the great NSV myself recently!

    Plus Size No More!

    Awesome NSV! Congrats!
  21. For more years than I can remember, I've sat in the aisle seat on airplanes. Some of the reason was because my arthritis made it easier to get in and out of the seat but there was also another reason why I sat on the aisle. I was so heavy that it made me very self-conscious when I lumbered over the seats as I struggled to get past them just to sit down or head to the bathroom. In order to not feel so bad about this, I told myself that looking out the window was just for kids and folks who didn't fly often and since I flew alot, I didn't need to have a window seat. Well...tonight I purposely sat in a window seat because I can move around on an airplane much better than I used to between the weight loss and easing of my joint pain due to hip replacement. I live in New York City as many of you know and for the first time in a very long time, I was able to see my city in all it's glory as we flew over it. I had forgotten how breathtaking and spectacular Manhattan is from a bird's eye view. I could see the Statue of Liberty and then the Freedom Tower below me. I could also see the Empire State Building all decked out in red, white, and blue. Plus I could see the Chrysler Building, the Citicorp Building, and the millions and millions of twinkling lights below. It looked like beautiful sparking jewels as far as the eye could see. All I could think of was how much I missed this amazing sight and how grateful I was that my band made it all possible again.

    My Nsv So Far :)

today is one year banded for me. i've lost 100 pounds and the nsv's are amazing. -i had to change my car seat location to move it forward. my seat belt is no longer super tight on me, so i can move when i'm strapped in -i no longer neat a seat belt extension on flights! that was a huge nsv for me. -i walk and walk and walk and don't get tired the way i used to, so i can keep up with my friends. -i can sit in my chair at work and my legs aren't forced into the seat. the armrests of the chairs don't leave marks on me any longer ....the same with movie theatre seats -i can cross my legs comfortably -i have gone from a size 28 in tops/30 in bottoms to a size 16 in tops/18 in bottoms. i haven't been this size since high school. on a side note, i have been going through my closets and cleaning them out. i ran across a box dated 6 years ago that i had made a note on that read "do not open unless you lose 50 pounds". in this box, i had some of my favorite skirts and tops from 6 years ago. well, i opened the box this past weekend and the clothes in it are now TOO BIG for me. I have surpassed my "skinny clothes" box. HUGE NSV for me. -I used to wear XXXL and XXXXL t-shirts. now i can wear XL and some L sized shirts. I can even wear some of my DH's t-shirts...not that he's happy about me wearing his clothes, but I can! -My DH who was initially against me having this surgery because he was happy with the way I was feels like he has a new wife. I have energy to do all the things he likes to do, i.e. museums, riding bikes, taking walks, just being together. He has been a huge support and comfort to me this past year and I'm glad that he has a healthier wife to spend time with! there so many NSV's, it's difficult to name them all. they have kept me going even when the scale itself wasn't moving.

Weigh-in last night and this past week I've lost 6 POUNDS!!! NSV-I went jogging last night and as I was putting on my fanny pack, it wouldn't fit so I adjusted the straps as much as I could til I finally had to take the extender off. I have never worn that fanny pack without the extender and I don't need it anymore!!! It makes me feel like I'm practically a normal size person. I know it sounds silly, but I am proud!!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Hi everyone! Haven't checked in for a while. I've taken the week off from work, and am enjoying some "me time." I think vacations at home are the best! Just wish the weather were a bit nicer. Can't get outside much because of the rain. I've come to realize that I definately need a fill. I know you guys have been telling this, but I'm pretty stubborn. I'm really not gaining (other than 2 lb fluctuations), which is amazing, but I know I'm eating too much. I did fairly well with exercise, though I needed more 40 min sessions. I think I'll keep my exercise goals the same for next month, and will schedule a fill within the next couple of weeks. I'm 37 today! Crazy! I'm so glad I decided to take care of my weight issue when I did. My mother was visiting this past weekend, and has been gaining steadily all her life. It's so hard for me watching her struggle with walking, going up stairs, and being in constant pain. She has major food issues and eats constantly - but denies she does. She is almost 57. She didn't support my surgery at first, but I think she has seen that it has been a positive thing. Maybe she will decide to do something for her health...... It's wonderful to hear of all the NSV's, and I love the positivity of this group!
