Rlocke, Hang in there. It is a long race and remember we are just at the beginning! I was sleeved at the end of Dec., so I am bit further out than you. I probably eat a bit more carbs that is ideal, but I make sure all of my food is as healthy as possible. Most days I have 1/2 yogurt & 1/2 cottage cheese, then for lunch usually tuna, but today I had 5 think ham slices with one wedge of laughing cow cheese, then I roll them up. They are yum. Tonight I plan to have swai (fish) and roasted veggies. I always save myself a late night treat of either a sf fudge pop or sf popsicle. I have lost about 30 so far, but only lose about 1-2 pounds a week at this point.

I agree. Regular yogurt is just icky now. I stick with greek yogurt as well. If I want to add sweetness, I just add sugar free pudding powder, or sugar free syrups to sweeten it up. I still use it for all recipes that call for sour cream. I rarely buy sour cream anymore.

Plain Greek Yogurt flavored with dry Jello crystals .... or .... 1 Poached egg and Johnsonville maple flavored sausage links (2-3) ....or.... 1 egg scrambled with grated cheese. These are things i eat post-op .... I ate the same pre-op, just more of it...lol

what is the big hype with greek yogurt?
Heartonsleeve replied to ********'s topic in Food and Nutrition
Anyone tried blending some greek yogurt with some flavored protein powder? -
I guess I could talk to my nut about this but is the nutritional value in greek yogurt better than regular? Suppose that both kinds are fat free and sugar free what is the difference? Plain greek yogurt (without fresh fruit) makes me wanna gag so I have stayed away from it. It also wasnt until recently that it was a big deal.

@@Veronica_mm How do you take your fish oil? I've tried straight from the bottle and also mixing it with yogurt and it is just....blah. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Greek yogurt:/ Yuck!
OutsideMatchInside replied to Castillo15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like yogurt. I used to like it some when I was a kid but the older I get the less I like to the point I am at now. I have so few calories to work with each day, I am not going to waste time trying to force myself to like something that I don't like and isn't essentials. There are lots of sources of Protein. You don't have to force yourself to like something you don't like. -
still struggling to get in protein after 3 mths
sleeve_sister replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't tried the greek yogurt with pudding mix, but I will try that too. If I could eat an entire egg, turkey burger, or even drink a whole shake, etc. I don't think I'd struggle so much to get my protein in. However, that's not reality for me. I'm not losing hair yet, so hopefully I won't. I just don't know if there is any other issues that I could have as a result?? I spent the first week post op in ICU and the third week post op inpatient too for dehydration, UTI, and kidney stones. My hubby works in the oilfield and is out of town for a month or two so, being sick is out of the question considering I don't know anyone in my town and we have two kids. I do take my vitamins and get B12 shots, so hopefully that's enough to make up for the lack of protein. Thanks everyone for your help!! -

Well I have never been so proud of myself for me eating 10 sugar free chocolate chips compared to 2 chocolate bars in one sitting. I have change my life upside down Over the years. And if I want 10 chocolate chips added to my shake or Greek yogurt every now and then I will. 9calories, .6gram fat & 1.3gram carbs per 10 chips I can do that. What did you use instead of broth? Any pain when you went home? I just picked up my meds ursodiol, Zantac, zofran & hycet any problems getting those down? Did you need to use any gas-x strips after?

Definitely getting at least 64oz water daily. At least 60g protein too. I got sick of protein shakes, So I add a scoop of genepro to my morning yogurt, I buy the Chobani Flips, they're soo good!! Lunch is usually some type protein, sometimes as simple as cottage cheese with fruit, or chili. I sometimes buy a grilled chicken wrap from Wendy's and just scrape out the insides and eat it without the tortilla. I also use Pure Protein, protein bars. Higher protein and low sugar. I usually eat 3-4 times daily, sometimes a snack of cashews.

Calories per day?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to ttdish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was on liquid and soft food I mostly ate: Protein shakes, protein pudding, liquid beverage concentrate with protein, protein Soup, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans, tuna, soft fish (like salmon and tilapia), melted cheese on everything!, etc. I tried to make sure almost everything had protein but also had no sugar added diced peaches, pears, and applesauce, as well as V8, and soft vegetables like green beans and squash. For protein shakes I like: Premier Protein, GNC Lean 25, ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates, and Syntrax nectar. My surgeon said that there is no physical reason someone couldn't drink 3 premier protein shakes (90 grams protein) the day after surgery, so I just committed to getting it all in even if that meant not going to sleep until I had reached my goal. If your protein goal is 60-80 grams, I would recommend working very hard to get in at least 80 grams every day. I think you will feel better and it will help with healing and weight loss. Plan out meals and Snacks of no more than 20-25 grams of protein each time for the day. Keep in mind that early out those meals and snacks may sort of run together because you are going to be sipping and eating something all day. Plus, the more you can include protein in your fluids, the easier it will be to reach both your protein and 64 oz Fluid goals. Good luck and just keep working at it. And make sure you record everything because if you are like me, I can't remember what I ate or drank 10 minutes ago! -
Almost 1 yr post op-willing to mentor :)

I am having trouble getting to my Protein quota set by my doctor; at least 75-85 grams per day. I have been mixing Protein Powder with Protein drinks just to get more in the mornings...but, boy oh boy, the calories add up. My morning routine comes to about 516 calories. That's one serving of Chobani yogurt with 1 packet of unflavored protein power and one Lean Body Protein shake with one packet of unflavored protein powder. Those three items add up to more than half of the 800 calories I've been trying to stick to as advised for these first few months. I also take a handful of Vitamins which must be worth at least 5-10 calories each. Wondering if anyone knows anything about GENEPRO Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide. It says it contains 30 grams of protein (instanized peptide whey, hydrolyzed whey, and genetic hexapeptide protein. Is this the kind of protein I want and need? One thing nice is that the serving size (one scoop) is much smaller than the packets like unjury or Jarrrow Formulas, which I have been using. Plus it's only got 15mg of sodium. But is it the "right kind" of protein???? Thanks to anyone who can whey in on this topic -
Frozen dinner question
Inner Surfer Girl replied to bevewhite's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree that most of those meals are carb heavy and full of sodium and preservatives. For me it is fairly easy to pick a Protein and then add a vegetable it fruit. (For instance, turkey breast and green Beans or roasted Brussels sprouts or similar; cottage cheese with fresh tomato; Greek yogurt with fresh berries; chicken patty and a green vegetable; etc.) It tastes so much better than frozen meals anyway and is really easy.. -
How far PO are you? Is there a calorie level your nutritionist recommends? Mine had me bump to 800, I'm eating 4 meals a day plus a snack. Every 3 hours I'm eating 2 oz of protein + 2 oz of either veg, carb or fruit. Snack is greek yogurt w protein powder. Constantly putting calories in, 150ish at a time. I feel so full of energy last week, walking 40-60 minutes a day between 2 or 3 walks. Plus I'm just up off my butt so much more than I used to be. I'd check w nutritionist, but maybe a little more calories?

Sounds about right. I've gained and lost 150+ pounds at 3 points in my life, and whenever I dropped like a stone, I'd hit a plateau. I think it especially makes sense in light of not hitting your protein goals... I keep hearing that's hard for people who don't like protein shakes (understandable). I hit my 65 just barely with 2 protein shakes + Greek yogurt, and it feels like I'm setting timers all day to either be eating or hydrating so I don't forget. Anyway, I totally wouldn't stress about the stall. I'm sure it will start coming off again soon.

90 Days Out - Menu Ideas?
Meryline replied to GinaLola's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now I'm eating 150g (5oz) Skyr (high protein yogurt) with 20g of flaxseeds and a nectarine in it. In about 3 hours I'll have a 5 oz portion of stew (lean meat, potatoes, carrots and celery root) 3 hours later I'll have ground chicken fajitas with bellpeppers (5oz total), a little cheddar and some sour cream (No tortilla) 3 hours after that I'm having 100g of smoked salmon on a piece of Protein bread and humus And for an evening snack I'll have 1-2 mozzarella sticks That is around 1100-1200 kcal 112g of protein, 53g of fat and 46g of carbs A normal day for me is usually 1-2 cold meals and 3 warm meals. I meal prep and always have my freezer stacked with 3-4 options of pre portioned 5 oz meals to take to work and heat up. Without it I know this wouldn't have worked. Almost always when I make dinner I make a larger portion, so I can freeze the rest -
Am I able to eat to much?

Yogurt is a liquid, so it isn't really going to cause restriction. Some people heal faster than others. be happy and grateful, it means you can meet your protein goals easier. -
Snacks for Movie Theatre Ideas?
jess9395 replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I was hoping someone had found some GOOD yogurt in a tube! And yes I tried to Answer for future thread readers as well as the OP. Two weeks out I would drink Water in a movie. It's the time to break old habits (movie = snack) and create new ones. Really we can go through a two hour movie without food. -
For me it has a very chemical after taste that is off-putting, but it's such a good source of protein in a small quantity that I am still using it, but as a smoothy base with a little Fairlife vanilla protein shake and plain greek yogurt. Since today I start soft foods, I am going to add a little banana. MUCH tastier this way!

Your dietitian should give you a meal plan. 1-2 weeks clear liquid. Broth, sugar free jello, protein waters, 1-2 oz per hour. After 1 week you should have another appointment with your surgeon. He may tell you to go to : Low-fat strained creamed soup Light yogurt Pudding, and protein shakes week 3-4 you may move to puréed food. Mostly protein foods. No heavy fiber vegetables though, like broccoli. Cooked very soft sweet potatoes carrots etc…then purée. Week 5-6. Start with protein-rich foods, such as chicken, fish, turkey, beans and eggs. Around week 5, you can add some vegetables and fruits. Chew until mushy. Don’t forget. Chew chew chew. Don’t drink 30 min before or after a meal. Soft foods are another step closer to eating solid foods, and are introduced around weeks 6-8. These include cooked or canned lean meats, fish, and certain vegetables and fruit. Please consult with your surgeon first. Everyone is different and so are doctors. What I listed is a basic guide. Try tiny bites first. And wait a min. See if you feel like you can tolerate (example:eggs, fish, beef). I’m 61. My surgery date is May 27, for my sleeve. I wish you all the best.
