Once I got to full liquids I got lots of liquid savory Soups like tomato red pepper, carrot ginger, creamy corn and roasted red peppers, butternut squash, etc mostly the imagine brand bc they are low to non fat and taste great. I added fage Greek plain yogurt for more Protein and creaminess. Some ppl cant handle thickness early on but if you can, those are sone of my suggestions. Happy recovering

    Protein protein protein!

I add a scoop of unjury unflavored Protein powder to everything to boost the protein. I scoop has 10 grams. It's lists cheaper in the canisters than the packets. I scoop in 8oz of 1% milk is 28 grams of protein and 270 calories. I can only drink 4oz at a time. Also add it to bone broth, but it can't be hotter than 140 degrees or it clumps up. I mix it with yogurt and cottage cheese 1scoop per cup ahead of time. Sometimes in V8 juice... I do miss veggies. There are probably other brands of unflavored protein out there.

    Kosher protein shakes?

Unjury is kosher.(dairy). Tastes great too. though I like the unflavored best. Ten grams of protein a scoop. I mix 4 scoops into a quart of yogurt or cottage so it's ready to go!
  4. 3wks after surgery I am suppose to be in a puree diet but it is had to get it down. One tsp of yogurt I am so full for hrs, I can't finish a whole egg. snacks

Cottage cheese or greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is often made from milk that has been enriched by boiling off some of its Water content, or by adding extra butterfat and powered milk, It contains a higher Protein density than regular yogurt, which is largely casein protein. Cottage cheese does, too. You can find more about health benefits of cottage cheese at https://wikihomenutrition.com/cottage-cheese-health-benefits/

Here it is - my newbie post

@@rolosmom7 There's not enough research to fully understand how we will be post-op. I'm only counting protein and fluids right now 2 1/2 weeks) but could only meet protein with supplements (shakes or unflavored protein powder). Why don't you try foods with protein that may not be as filling (yogurt, egg salad, tuna, baked fish) and see if you can eat more frequently. Gaining 2 lbs is not unusual - could be water retention (too much sodium), your period, constipation, etc. 45lbs in 5 weeks is great - I could only hope to lose that much! Congrats!
  9. I am one month post op, on "soft foods". I have been having discomfort with everything except for cottage cheese and yogurt. I'm on soft foods and even very soft chicken and fish gives me pain right where the esophagus meets the stomach opening. It is like a lot of pressure and makes eating difficult. It takes about 15-20 minutes until it passes into the stomach and pain subsides. I was fearful I had a structure. I just spoke to my surgeons nurse, who said it sounds exactly like spasms. Therefore she ordered Levson, a tablet I will take 15 minutes before meals. I was actually sent home with some, but thought it was for nausea. I am glad it's not a stricture. I'll start taking this stuff tonight before dinner and see how it goes.

    Protein protein protein!

I got tried of Premier Protein really quick... No now I try to drink two cups of Fairlife Fat Free milk with sugar free chorale mixed in... And a scoop of GENEPRO Protein mixed in as well... It's odorless and tasteless. You can also put it in yogurt..
  11. My surgeon has probably the most laid-back diet advancement plan I've seen, and I wasn't cleared for anything like that for over a month. My instructions: Full liquid (plus yogurt, pudding, etc. so long as there was no fruit/chunks) - 2 weeks. Purees starting @2 weeks and progressing to soft foods as tolerated - 2 weeks. So the end of the 3rd week to the 4th week was my first opportunity for eggs. Though my surgeon said that she has a lot of people who can't tolerate eggs that early. I couldn't until I was on solid foods for a couple of weeks. During this period I could start trying ground beef, tuna, shredded chicken, etc. but only after I'd worked up to it through purees and softer food. After 4 weeks I was cleared for a full diet, but was cautioned to add foods from soft/moist end first, working my way SLOWLY up to the harder/drier foods. I was warned that some meats like steak might not be tolerable for much longer. I had a egg/sausage/cheese taquito at about 6 weeks working through this plan. Most surgeons have a much stricter and slower food progression. I'd be utterly amazed if your surgeon would approve anything like this at 8 days post.
  12. I've never bought any bariatric foods from here or any other place. Doing just fine and my grocery bill is tiny even feeding two adults. I don't eat much any pre-packaged/prepared foods after I realized they were part of the problem (most are crammed with fat/carbs/sodium). I cook from scratch with whole food sources about 75% of the time. Things like marinara sauce or turkey pepperoni I do buy prepared, but I get the lowest carb/highest Fiber versions, and avoid high sodium, and other questionable things. I read nutrition labels of everything. It also works to help me put things back if I'm suddenly craving them and want to buy - one look at a package containing 50 grams of carbs per serving and I can't stick that sucker back on the shelf fast enough! I buy lots of chicken and fish. We eat on a chicken drumsticks or thighs at least once a week, and I usually do them in the slow cooker so I can create broth from the fat/bones and then make a lovely Soup with it later in the week. We eat lots of veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, turnip greens and spinach, okra, brussel sprouts, (not so much of the carby veggies like carrots, potatoes, peas). eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, Beans (kidney, black beans, pintos, great Northern), and brown rice. High fiber wheat bread on occasion. Pork rinds are a great snack substitute when I'm desperate for the crunch of chips (but eaten sparingly since they are so high in sodium). I have a very large variety of awesome recipes that are low carb, high Protein and moderate fat.

    Dinner?

My dinner last night was an egg with mushroom and sausage. I had the same thing for breakfast. Lunch was 1/2 of a large chili from Wendy's. I usually have Greek yogurt for breakfast. A favorite lunch is shrimp with old bay and lemon juice topped with a slice of havarti cheese and 2 slices of tomato then it goes in the microwave. Essentially a shrimp melt without the bread. Bacon is awesome! Bacon with tomato and lettuce... I did shrimp with bell peppers, onion, garlic and a light orange sauce a few nights ago.

Refried beans with cheese and sour cream, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta bake, sugar free pudding, scrambled eggs, egg salad...
  15. What is everyone eating for dinner? Are you really eating a meal, albeit small, or is "dinner" a misnomer? I am 7 weeks post-op and still struggling to hit my Fluid and Protein goals every day. I eat a slice of cheese for Breakfast, then have a Protein shake throughout the morning. I usually cannot finish it before it's time to stop drinking before lunch. I bring 3T of protein for lunch (either leftovers from my husband's dinner the previous evening, or something like tuna or chicken salad) and a couple T of greek yogurt (80 cal Dannon), but I can't finish either of these. More drinking during the afternoon, maybe another protein shake or maybe just liquid. Dinner turns out to be a couple of tablespoons of protein... and then I'm full. TOO full, uncomfortably so. My surgeon and nut both say just keep trying, so I do, but I'm really struggling. Honestly, this isn't what I expected. I want to eat a meal. Not huge, generous portions of high carb, high fat foods, but just a balanced meal. Each evening I make myself a little plate, with a few T of protein and a couple T of something else (veggies mostly, but sometimes mashed or baked white or sweet potato). The problem is, I can't eat it. By the time I eat my protein first, I'm more than done. I am eating protein and nothing else, and it's not making me happy. Does this ever get better, or is having a "real meal" really never happen? I expected it would be hard at the beginning, but thought this would be getting easier with the passing weeks, not harder. I'm really feeling pretty demoralized right now.

Thanks for the advice, I had a few more meals (2oz each) today because I was so hungry, but feel discouraged about going over the 600 calorie goal. I can't stand shakes.I will definitely try beans, I feel like dairy is so high in calories in general. I guess I'm so worried about not losing that I don't want to eat to many calories. The beans with a bit of cheese and sour cream sound amazing though! Doing that tomorrow for sure! Thank you! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

    Fruit after bypass

I was big with strawberries and Greek yogurt. It didn't cause me any issues with my RNY. The Greek yogurt helped with my Protein levels. Good luck!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I work long hours, so for office days I pack 3-4 small meals and just go at them every couple of hours. My typical day looks like this: 7 - iced coffee at home w/ fairlife milk and unflavored Protein powder 10 - at the office- most of a 6 oz Fage 0% yogurt 12 - 2-3 oz of grilled chicken breast or cold poached salmon, depending on what I packed 3 - cheese (string, babybel, wee Brie, laughing cow, something like that) 5 - 2-3 oz of the chicken, salmon or whatever I had before Then if I'm home for dinner I'll have something like sliced turkey breast, a chicken or lamb burger patty, turkey Jerky etc. If I'm at a restaurant I'll usually order a protein w green veggies on the side and take at least half home for leftovers. If I forget to pack lunch, which happens sometimes, I'll hit the salad bar at the caf and load up on those turkey cubes, cheese and veggies and pick at that all day. The newsstand downstairs has Pure Protein shakes if I really can't be bothered. When I'm on the road for work, I work even longer days. I pack individual protein powders and a Blender Bottle, turkey jerky and hit up a grocery store for yogurt, Protein Bars, cheese Snacks, and deli meat to keep in my hotel room fridge. So I can still eat my 4-5 small meals a day even though my coworkers will only join me for 2-3! I am on the road now and got lucky by traveling with a female coworker who was happy to share with me at every meal so we both had nice perfect portions of healthy protein.

    Workdesk friendly foods?

Which surgery are you having? I had the gastric bypass and was only out a week. I had access to a fridge at work and kept yogurt in there, Jello, Protein drinks (Isopure, Syntrax nectar, etc.). Soups also work if you have a microwave.

What Do You Put Genepro In

I put GENEPRO into everything....coffee, lemonade, milk, refried Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt (if it isn't greek), Soup, etc. Pretty much anything soft/moist. The key to getting Genepro to incorporate well is to sprinkle it on the surface of whatever you're trying to mix it with, then use a FORK to mix it in. I have it in a cup of coffee every morning by pouring my half and half into the cup, mixing it with the Genepro then adding coffee. No lumps, just undetectable Protein.
  24. coffee (after it has cooled a bit), if you want it to mix in cold milk, you need to use a blender, stirring won't do it. I also add to my yogurt.
