    High Risk?

I am 18 months and and find myself pregnant and I was NOT trying! (I think we all turn super fertile after major weight loss) I think at 10 months out you are getting to a place where you can start to get pregnant and start nourish a baby. Ideal, probably not... High risk? probably not.. a little extra monitoring? yes, but that's ok! Good luck!
  2. At least yummy to me. I have been having so much trouble drinking those Protein drinks after surgery. Tonight I went to Walmart and came across Odwalla Protein Monster chocolate protein. A serving is 8 oz and had 18 grams of protein. Downside is the serving size is large and it has 25 grams of sugar but for an occasional treat, it was not too bad. I think I could even beef it up with one of the premade whey shakes and it would still taste good. My other is for the coffee lover. This one could be warmed up or put on ice. Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappuccino. There is 10 grams per 8 oz serving but again, lot of sugar. Damn...didn't see all the sugar till I got home though I did note that they are from apple juice and organic cane juice. I was way too excited over the protein. I found both a Walmart in 1 qt containers by the orange juice section. I think I will call the company and see if they make a sugar free version.

    Torn to make a decision

It's your life and your health! It will be the best thing you will ever do for yourself. My knees are destroyed from waiting till 56 to do this surgery. I have a huge regret, why did I not do this 10 years ago. Our lives are incredibly difficult being obese, prejudice, pain and unhealthy.
  4. In 9/08 I started to exercise daily and progressively improved my food choices. From then through presurgery and after I have lost 109 pounds; with 27 since surgery in 8/10. Personally I think those shows on TV that have someone with huge pieces of extra skin are questionable. MOST people don't end up like that; which is why people that do go on TV. Is sensational. Okay off my soap box. I don't have excess skin at all. Admittedly I need to lose another 100 so my ideal could be a bit off. Everyone loses weight at different speeds. I don't want to discourage anyone but some people like myself are slow loosers. I follow my doctors orders (measure out 3 oz of protein per meal), eat healthy foods, AND exercise every day for an hour. I have lost an average of 1 pound per week. Today was my 6th fill now at 10 CC's in 11 CC band; and really really really hope this will brings restriction. I don't think doctors really emphasize enough that it can take a while for you to see significant loss; probably until you reach restriction. I think I have been slower because I was already dieting and exercising before surgery so my body was not shocked by a huge change in eating habits.

    Surgery next week

Hey, Thin, good luck with everything. I had to do 10 days of a presurgery diet, and about 2 months of a "pre"pre surgery diet before that. Lost 30 pounds before I was even banded! It's hard to stick to the pre diet, but doing so will help you so much afterward. Your body will be used to less and you won't feel so ill when you can't eat much. I shocked myself by not feeling ill at all (after) and get by just fine. One hint about shopping for the after foods. I bought everything on the list given me, which wasn't a bad idea. However, I still had my pre surgery eyes. I bought big containers of juice, cans and cans of cream Soup. Anything you can get in small amounts will be best with possibly more variety. I am on full liquids and a can of cream soup would last me over a week (1 or 2 oz. at a time). sugar free popsicles was on my list, then after surgery I was told nothing cold, it could make the stomach cramp. As with everything, you can get mixed messages. I was given sample menus, which helped a lot. One week post op and I can honestly say I feel better then I did 2 months ago. I"m sure eating right has a great deal to do with it. Exercise if you can, too. I pushed myself hard in the weeks before, and walked 20 minutes around the house the first day post op and 3 days post op was back on the treadmill. Everyone who took care of me was amazed at how well I felt, and how much I could do on my own. Trust me, that was the first time in my life THAT has ever happened. I, too, "lurked" for weeks before posting anything. I knew the "good, bad and ugly" before I even went for my first informational meeting. Then I didn't post because it just didn't seem real for me. Everyone is so great to share their own experiences. I thought maybe it was time for me to share as well. Glad you chose to, also. By the way, wish I'd been thin in '86. I was on my way up at that time to my all time high this year. I'd have to go back to about '80. I plan on living the second half of my life in a different body-saggy, but lighter.

    High Risk?

*disclaimer- please withhold negative opinions, looking for advice, not judgement*. That being said, I'm 10 months out, down 115 lbs and looking to get knocked up. Based on having a gastric sleeve, those of you who are prego, are you considered to be high risk based on the surgery by your MD?
  7. Two months after my surgery, I took a loved one to Mexico to get sleeved by the same surgeon. She had/has Sjogren's (and of course she disclosed it, etc.), but I don't recall it being a big issue. She has done well since the surgery and hasn't talked about needing to adjust her meds or anything. She doesn't really come to these boards, but I will circle back to this thread and give you some of her feedback in the next week or 10 days . Best wishes!

    Ready for plastic

Hi I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow June 1/15 I am having tummy tuck with muscle repair and lipo my insurance is coveting everything 100 percent . I am taking 10 days off work and will post updates if requested . From start to finished only took 1 month and 1 week from start to surgery day . Good luck .

    Ready for plastic

@@Cupcake I hope you manage okay with only 10 days off work. The muscle repair is NO JOKE in terms of pain and limited mobility. Best of luck to you!
  10. I was banded on March 12, 09...had to do pre-op liquid for two weeks...I'm -35 pounds today. Blood sugar and blood pressure have been normal and below since two days out of surgery. I feel grea, am into clothes I haven't been able to wear for two or three years past! They're like new. I'm loving the band, not craving anything and have no desire to 'cheat' for any reason. Wish I had done this 10 years ago~

    Weight loss

It took until my 3rd fill, about 4 months after my surgery when I started really losing. I lost about 10 lbs post op but that was mainly due to the liquid diet. I ate the same things I did post op as I did preop and thought I had failed this attempt also. Then, 4 mths later, after my 3rd fill something spectacular happened - I got full on only a few bites of food! And if I ate 1 bite too much, I'd vomit. I began losing approx 10 lbs a month. I thought for sure I'd be the one person that this surgery didn't work for. I just passed my 2 yr anniversary and I've lost 100 lbs, with about 15 left to lose. It's radically slowed down the past year, and this last 15 lbs is being very stubborn Good luck to you! Marci

    no more diabetic meds

Congratulations! May I ask which diabetic meds you were on and what the dosage was? I'm currently on 1500 mgs of metformin a day - 500 in the AM and 1000 at night. Also take a 10 mg lisinopril for blood pressure.

  15. Hi Ladies...I have a question for you... I have been banded for almost 10 months now and have only lost about 40lbs. That comes out to about 1 lb a week. A WHOPPING ONE POUND A WEEK! No matter how hard I try. I was wondering if it had anything to do with my birth control. I have the Mirena IUD. Have any of you ladies experienced trouble losing weight because of your birth control? I'm considering getting it removed to see if I lose more weight.

    day 2 and cant pee!!

It takes time for those muscles to "wake up" after anesthesia for some people. The catheter also can cause things to either swell or temporarily paralyze. These things DO resolve, it just takes a little time. Narcotic pain medications make it difficult to urinate as well. Just do what they tell you to do, be patient and stay positive. Drink your fluids as much as you can, as being well hydrated will help wake things up. Walk walk walk, which also helps wake things up. And see how little pain medication you can get away with and still have a pain level no higher than 3-4 on a scale of 1-10.

    Just feeling sorry for myself..

Sorry to hear of your setback with your WLS. Let me try to put things in perspective for you. My good friend contracted the Corona Virus. At first he thought he had the flu, then bronchitis and finally hospitalized with pneumonia. It wasn't till he was hospitalized and tested that he was diagnosed with Corona Virus. Unfortunately for this hard working soul a day after checking into the hospital he had to be placed on a ventilator. Mind you there are no visitors allowed in the hospitals these days. His family could only call the nurses station and hoped the line wasn't busy, someone picked up and if they did pick up would get back to them with information on their loved one. ( In the best of times hospital care is a little above average) . The news is always bleak and after a week and a half my friend passed away. The family had to visit four funeral homes. Each one saying we will service you but by appointment only. After three funeral homes not calling them back they finally found one that could "process" his body for burial. They paid for a full funeral despite the funeral home only picking up my friend at the hospital and placing him into the casket with out being embalmed or having proper clothes on. The casket remained closed due to health concerns and they don't know if the person in the casket is their family member. They could not have visitation due to the virus. At the cemetery only a handful of people were allowed to attend once again due to the virus. This Covid 19 virus is cancelling a lot of planned events (I also had to cancel my vacation) but there are those who like my friend suffered and died alone. Who like his family can't be there for a sick loved one and who had to endure an Odyssey just to lay a loved one to rest. I was going to put a post on the boards of my two year Maintenance - versary. But after writing this it just doesn't seem important anymore. Please don't take this as a criticism of your reaction to having your surgery cancelled. You have every right to be disappointed. You will get your surgery, you will be much healthier and all of the things you wanted to do will be a reality. Unfortunately, in these tough times the reality of many isn't what they envisioned or hoped for. To all my fellow WLS friends. Stay safe, healthy and please be kind to others it really makes a difference.

thanks....ive lost track of my total but I've been on a 200cc drip every 1/2 hr for 10+ hrs + finally managed to get out a pathetic 150ccs......I could have probably been peeing hours ago if I had registered in my drugged out brain that the commode I had over the toilet was too small it was a standard sized commode like not for LB patients, (the bigger one was sitting off to the side in the shower lol...smart hospital....believe me if there was a faucet in the bathroom i would have turned it on a LONG time ago but there's just a shower - the faucet is outside the bathroom in my room) and therefore literally squeezing me "shut" (women, you might get what I'm saying a little better) I should start peeing my brains out soon now that I took the commode off and theres a space for it to exit God, the obvious things we miss on pain meds lol + the "inconveniences" of being a fatty lol.....not for long I'm on the other side now!!!

I hope all is flowing now.... If not you really should think about allowing a catheter. The bladder can only hold so much before you damage it. I also had problems after my surgery. I walked, and walked, and walked. (the only thing my nurse suggested.) I tried warm wash clothes on my abdomen and back. I tried warm and then cool clothes on my urethra. (Thinking the catheter removal may have been tramatic, causing swelling.) All without success beyond 10 cc here or there. Like you the urge was there, but no urine. I actually asked "where is that stress incontinence when I need it?" Finally, when I told the nurse what all I had tried and asked if she knew of anything else she suggested something that worked. Get your legs as far apart on the commode as you can and lean forward. I mean panties off, legs on each side, trying to have a baby position. It worked at least for about 50 cc. Then same position I leaned back, again a bit. I kept slowly moving back and forth until finally I didn't feel the urge. It relieved enough pressure (about 200cc) that we weren't worried about my bladder. I tried the same maneuver an hour later, some success. Then finally went to sleep for the night. Woke up 2 hours later needing to pee and had no problems. Guess anesthesia had worn off.
  21. Well surgery is today guys!!! I have not had anything to eat since Sunday night. I am not hungry but feel kinda foggy in my head. Sorry if my spelling is worse that usual. I have to scrub my tummy again with anti bacterial stuff. I am all packed with books, netbook (too watch movies), and iTouch. The hardest part is going to be leaving my wedding ring at home . I am a little scared that my pain won't be controlled after surgery but my DH has assured me he will be right on top of it. My report time is 9 am but parking can be bad at that time so DH and are going earlier. I should be in surgery by 10:30 or so. I will be discharged on Saturday sometime. I will try and post from the hospital on a friends phone if it works like I think it will. I wanted to thank everyone here for all the incredible support you give. Honestly there were times I felt like this was the only place I could go and not be judged and harrased about my choice. Those already sleeved, you are getting huge karma points for helping those coming behind you. Catch you guys on the sleeved side!!!! :cool0:

    6 More Days To Surgery

Congrats on the 19 pounds! The 21st is right around the corner, how exciting!

    Click Protein Powder

I found a treasure at Price Chopper. It is "TopCare" whey protein. I like the vanilla because I can do a lot with it. I have added: vanilla and one equal, any flavor xtract one one equal, instant coffee and one equal, SF chocolate syrup and one equal, vanilla and cinnamon and one equal, or one banana, some vanilla and one equal. I even added rootbeer xtract, a dab of vanilla, and one equal and had a rootbeer float. It is reasonably priced ( less than $10./lb.), has 110cal, 4 carbs, 3 sugar, and 20g protein. I have a soy allergy and can handle the wee bit that is in this product--wayyyy at the end of ingredients. "Try it. You may just like it!!!" Valentina

OMG!!! Was this a waste of money???

YOU ARE NORMAL!!! There, feel better? ((((hugs)))) The band is not designed to work without a fill, and you seem to be a great healer! Yes, some people need 2 or 3 fills before they find their "sweet spot" but others find the first fill does the trick. Because you are not filled, it is just like you were not banded. Of course you will be hungry. That's normal and to be expected. Please hang in there, this pre-fill stage has got to be the hardest because you want it to work, you don't want to be hungry, and you want to lose weight. So, this will probably be the last time you will be able to enjoy baked goods :girl_hug: Excellent work on the 10 pounds, btw. But jus so you know, you are going to be hungry even after you are filled. You will, because you are HUMAN. I'm sitting here, feeling hungry, but that's because I ate something like 4 hours ago. And that too is to be expected. A lot of people think that once they are banded, (and filled) that they will never, ever be hungry ever again. And that is simply not true. But maybe for the first time, you will feel physically hungry, instead of 'munchy' or 'nibbly' or something similar. Part of the key is to lean to manage your hunger, so you don't get too hungry. If I'm not careful, my hunger will sneak up on me, and suddenly I'll be ravenously hungry. And that is a danger point. If I wait until I am too hungry, I get into trouble. I'll eat too fast, or take too big of a bite and then WHAMP!!!! Stuck, or worse. Cheers and welcome to Bandlandia
  25. Okay so I was banded on 9-21-10 and of course for the first week the scale was moving like crazy, like ten lbs the first week. This second week my weight has been fluctuating between the same 3 lbs and I can't lose! Did anyone else go through this so recently after surgery? Any ideas for getting the scale to start moving again? Help I am starting to get discouraged!
