    Please help!

I was sleeved 9/6/19 and have only lost 20 lbs. I can't really even eat yet, just having protein shakes, broth, and a small amount of chicken. I don't really know what is hapening
  4. Back in a stall. Am not happy to be honest. Over the past 2 to 2.5 ks I've actually went up almost 2 lbs. I cut my calories for the past few days back from the 800 calories my dr gave me and was hitting around 600 to 700 calories. I managed to get '1' lb off... I intellectually understand that stalls happen but inside my head panic sets in and thinks if I can now only lose ONE or TWO lbs a month - this will TAKE FOREVER! I was settling for maybe a 1-2 lb a week weight loss and had lowered my expectations...as that would give me a loss of anywhere from 4.2 to 8.4 lbs a month. NOTHING like what I'm seeing with most people especially as I'm 10 days shy of being 3 months past surgery. This is the "time" when we are supposed to lose the most weight so I'm getting a bit concerned.
  5. Great news! Thanks so much for posting! Wishing you a quick complete recovery. I'm on for Monday 10/21.
  6. Update, I gained 3 lbs last week but lost 2 lbs this week. We had catered breakfast and lunches brought in last week for my team and I made some poor decisions but this week I'm focused and back on track. I was miserable last week. This 1st pic was taken yesterday the other one a 3 weeks ago. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 228 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

I like the subdued color because OMG your hair really pops against it! Did you refresh the color? Side note I avoided disaster today and put 10 boxes of Auburn hair dye back that I nearly bought... We can't all be Angiebears😥

    September 2019 🍂🍁

Me too! I lost 19 pounds the first week and nothing this week...I know my body is readjusting but it was strange to not lose anything after doing so well.
  11. Hi I had my surgery 10 weeks ago but for the last week have been suffering with the worst nausea that I have ever experienced to a point that I can’t function at work and the thought of eating or drinking is the last thing I want to do. Has anyone had the same issues and how did you get through it and what did the hospital say caused it? I just can’t stand it any longer and wonder if it’s anything sinister. I have been to the hospital and they told me it’s normal to have some nausea and to take lansaprazole and an anti sickness drug, I’m at the end of my tether with it, can anyone suggest anything to help?

    Cold Feet, My Lightbulb Moment

Welcome and start here. This is normal behavior. I think we probably all went through it to some degree. I'm still afraid of "failing WLS" lol. But a little "Fear of the Lord" isn't bad, is it? Keeps us on the right path. Right? We have a problem that is recognized as a disease by the AMA. Insurance companies are allowed to reimburse for the treatment of this disease. It's multi-variate and has many causes--not least of part of it for many is behavioral, emotional, and habitual. Most doctors involved in bariatrics concede that once you get to the point of being morbidly obese, there is little chance of having long-term complete weight loss and maintenance at a low set point. The surgery offers a real opportunity for a metabolic reset (hormonally). It allows our body/mind to defend a lower set-point, allowing us to lose more weight without the brain thinking that we are starving ourselves. And once lost, provided we continue with healthy food choices/behaviors, the new brain will allow us to defend and maintain the lower weight without sending out extra doses of hunger hormones and insulin to send us back into a state of metabolic derangement. That's what happens in a normal diet-loss-regain cycle. We lose x, then our brain gets wind that we are starving and so it sends our neuro and gut hormones into overdrive to cue the eating machine. Meanwhile, most of us will have decreased our metabolism by 10-20% because of said diet and calorie restriction...so it's a perilous sword. This is as much weight maintenance surgery as it is WLS. And I choose to not be embarrassed cuz I needed to have a surgical correction for a medical disease. Just as I would not be embarrassed to have to have a cardiac stent placed if I had CHD. That's a disease too. Nor would I be embarrassed if my appendix needed to come out because of infection... See what I mean?

    Emotional eating

Sometimes I eat emotionally, sometimes I don't. Today was a very stressful day, late lunch with 20 h IF, lots of mentally and partly also physically demanding work, coming home at half past eight in the evening, being called 10 min after coming home and still being on-call until tomorrow 8 AM... You know what? I'm eating emotionally right now and I give a damn about it because I'm tired as ****. No idea and I don't think it's possible. Everyone I know eats emotionally at least now and then - it's just a matter of how often people do it if they're doing serious damage or not and how much they usually eat. The best bet seems to be to learn that you don't have to eat because you feel certain feelings. It might feel in the beginning like you NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT RIGHT NOW. However, you'll discover soon that this is absolutely not true. No fool-proof 100% method (see above) but for me it works.

    October sleevers?????

Surgery is 10/29 - I'm on day 2 of pre-op liquid diet. Carnation breakfast packet with 1/2 scoop of protein with 8 oz of skim milk - 5 times a day (3-4 hours) apart. I have to drink 64 oz water, plus I can have sugar free popsicles and jello. I'm using those as my "mid day" snacks. I'm a little worried about the weekend as this has always been my hardest time when eating.

    3 Years

Hello all, Been a long time since I was here. Lots going on. on 20 Oct 2019 it will be 3 years since my RNY surgery. I have a checkup with my bariatric surgeon today. It is supposed to be every year, but since the emergency surgery last year it has been every six months. I have stopped going to support group (I think it is great but I am not getting anything out of it). I am still about 155 lbs and am pretty happy. Still have sugar issues, but everything else is ok (per blood tests). I get to go next month for the MRCP on my pancreas (I am hoping the IPMN hasn't grown). I flew from Detroit to Pharr, TX a couple of weeks ago to pick up a Mazda MX5 (my dad gave it to me, he can't drive it anymore), and drove it 1700 miles back to Detroit. Then a little over a week later my wife's brother was killed in an automobile accident. I drove about 500 miles (from Detroit to Carthage, NY) last Thursday (so I could be at his service) and got up the next morning and drove about 500 miles back to Detroit. Not really feeling it anymore, this is probably going to be my last time seeing my surgeon. I don't need to pay him $40 to have him tell me I am doing fine. I know how I am doing. I hope everyone is doing well.

    🍁 OCT 2019 CHALLENGE 🍁

    16. Gym this morning but no abs yet. I have an ongoing list of goals for myself that I mostly carry around in my head but I've written them down as well. I should probably update the written version. Mid Month Check In - We woke up to cold weather this morning, I could see my breath. Still not frost cold but I'm colder these days than I'm used to being. I don't like being cold. This weather is making want hot soups and hot drinks so it's gotten harder to get my water in but I keep trying. The weight just isn't moving as fast right now but it does continue to creep in the right direction. At this point, I'm just hoping for a good buffer between me and the 200s and I'm hoping this is just one of those plateaus/stalls and not where I stop. The team said that things could continue for 18 months to two years. I can't believe I'm two months away from my surgiversary. It's been a good 10 months so far!

    november sleeve

I start my pre op diet on 10/25. I've done my grocery shopping and I only have one more appointment with cardiology today for a stress test and then I'm finally done with all these appointments! I'm getting more nervous as I get closer. I'm looking forward to a new life and i pray for success. My diet will last 7 days with protein shakes and they actually modified that to also include one Greek yogurt. I can also supplement with a cup of broth, sugar free jello and pops. Its gonna be tough not grazing my kids leftovers but I'm doing this to be there for them and be a healthier me! Loving the support here! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Felling frustrated.

I am experiencing the same thing. Surgery on 10/1 and I have lost 14 lbs since then but been stalled the last 7 days. I am following all the guidelines too but weight not budging. I went up my 2 week post op apt yesterday and they told me to get off the scale for this first 2 months because I should not be focused on weight loss at this stage yet. This first few months should be about progressing through the diet phases to get back to solids, getting familiar with what foods you can tolerate now post opp, and healing. I don’t like this answer because I currently weigh everyday because it makes me keep myself accountable. Trying to make this mental shift for my own sanity though because I want this to be successful. I do still feel like I am losing inches even though the scale I s not budging. Are you measuring?
  21. JMA2019

    Felling frustrated.

I’m feeling the exact same way. Had surgery on 9/10. First 2 weeks weight fell off. Now it’s not budging. I keep thinking I’m doing something wrong but I’m doing everything I’m told.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Here is one example of the saggy neck and wrinkles where I never had them before. I’ll be honest though and say that even if I knew how much older in the face this would make me look, I’d still do it 100/100 times. So I had to endure breast cancer and I got new boobs out of it 10 years ago. This time I’ll endure this and get a facelift out of it. I’ve actually started working on a budget and pricing different procedures. I’m more than likely going towards an S-lift, but won’t know for sure until I have a consult. Which will still be after the first of the year. I want to make absolutely for sure that I’m well and good out of my honeymoon period and that weight loss is stopped before making any decisions. Even if I lost just another 10-15 pounds it could make a huge difference. Besides, it will give me more time to save up. Gaby, I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with your endoscopy. Please keep us posted. Emzbe, I was fine until about a month ago, and now I’m definitely needing laxative help. Not sure why my bowels have waited til now to go into lockdown mode, but it’s a daily struggle. I need to get more aggressive in treating it, because I’ve noticed that when things are super backed up I can barely eat more than 1/2 cup food w/o feeling ill, but then I’m hungry again 3-4 hours later and it’s frustrating bc I feel as if it’s throwing me off of my TRE regimen.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Yep--I had forgotten to mention the turkey neck, as well as the jowls and sagging face, all of which make me look older. When I was fat, everyone thought I was 10 to 15 years younger than I am. Now, the friends who will tell me the truth say that I look my age since losing weight.
  24. So I'm pretty excited. My insurance requires a few things. 6 months worth of appointments. Tomorrow is appointment 2 of 6. I think they said they would do the EKG tomorrow, and review blood work. Other than that, I have to have a sleep study done, meet with a psych, and I think a separate nutritionist. So looking for a surgery date of somewhere in march or april. On a side note, I have a neck injury, and am meeting with a specialist on 1/10/20 to hopefully get surgery to fix my neck... though the last specialist said surgery for it is not an option. I'm not sure how this will derail my sleeve surgery. I'm speculating that I would have to recover from my neck surgery first.
