    Birth control post op

I just started depo, but not for birth control. After I got the shot, I read up on the side effects and the weight gain is really a potential problem. I am going to do the implant as soon as this shot wears off.

    Evil birth control pill

Here's an interesting read on birth control and weight gain. I'm on the nuva-ring personally, I think my weight gain has been because of my eating habits and I too have PCOS. Anyway, it's worth a read: Birth Control Pills: Weight Gain and Fluid Retention

being fat is this whole stereotype

Oooh! That's an evil, evil comment but it is kinda witty. Nevertheless, I sure do hope that he blows up into a state of chubby. :heh: Bodies sure are interesting. Until I was banded I was a fatty grrl and many of my middle-aged pals are suffering from the same severe and tragic post-menopausal weight gain. I was never a curvy grrl when I was thin and I sure was not a curvy fattie. One of my friends was ultra curvy and although she was undeniably fat she could wear clothes which looked lousy on me. This was because she had big tits, a smallish waist and big hips and belly. She looked like a fertility figure and I looked like a Hummer with spider legs and arms. The best clothes for me were those which constructed like boxes. She looked fab in clothes which showed off her shape. Now that I have lost a bunch of weight I still wear cloth boxes, smaller ones is all. hah hah :faint:
  4. I feel like I am hungery more often, but can't eat as much in one sitting as I used to. I think my first fill (April 18th) will help out with the hunger. I am going to try the protien drinks 2x a day, and I think that will help. I gained 1/2 lb over the weekend, but have lost it now. I really just want to loose weight. My doctor did say that there may be a little weight gain before the first fill. The only thing restricting our hunger is if you have swelling in your stomach from the surgery, as the swelling goes down (and before your first fill) we will have the erge to eat more.

    Sleeve Re-check. Help!

Hummm, I have never heard of a sleeve re-set diet? I contacted my surgeon late last night and told him about my concerns. He said he wants me to come back into the office. Please don't be alarmed about you! It was the best decision of my life...I'm just very worried now because of the weight gain!
  7. I have UHC Choice Plus through Georgia Pacific. My only prequalifications are a BMI over 40 (which I have just barely) and a 5 year medical history showing I've been overweight. I only need one Dr's note per year. I also have that with no issues. I also need a letter of medical necessity, which I'll obviously get from my PCP. I'm excited to move forward. I am gathering those Dr's notes now, which has been a little tedious, due to the fact that I would switch doctors because I was ashamed of my weight gain! (also, I had to find Dr's who would prescribe diet pills at different times. I am hoping that I was seeking diet help with MOST of the appointments HELPS me.) Anyway, I'm a step closer to actually being approved and my insurance coordinator at the Dr's office said that UHC is pretty easy to work with! I'm hoping to have surgery around February. THey did say my OOP share will be about 1500 including my 500 deductible.

    WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

You mentioned your calorie, water, protein intake but what is your average meal ? To gain 7 pounds in 3 weeks time your consistently doing something for the weight gain. I've come to realize that this sleeve is a tool to HELP the process not the KEY. Exercising would definitely help your weight loss and improve your sleep. Unfortunately just eating right can cause you to maintain and not loose. Eat right, exercise, get rest they go hand and hand to weight loss. List a daily menu that you eat and possibly we could help see what the culprit is. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    sept 24th to oct 4th

Sept 24th to Oct 4th I have officially hit a stall hope it doesn't last too long. I contribute it to having my period, and the normal weight gain that attributes to it.

    finally home from being Sleeved

Don't worry about the weight gain. I had my sleeve on November 29th and initially gained probably 10 pounds from the surgery and fluids. I was a little stressed too when I got home and weighed more than when I left. However, the second week out I lost 17lbs!! It will come off, trust me!!
  11. Hello all, I would like to reintroduce myself, I have been a member of this group since my lap-band to sleeve revision August of 2013. I am by far the worst sleever ever. CAN'T STOP EATING !!!! It hurts mentally and physically. I was 224 Lbs, when sleeved I lost 60 Lbs and I felt so good about it, but no that's a lie I smiled politely at people when they complimented me but I didn't see it This past year has been a big change for me, my family moved from Long Island N.Y to Palm Coast F.L , no support group, no more Dr. I had to have my ligaments and tendons replaced in my elbow and my surgeon advised me that I can no longer remain in my profession, Emergency Medical Technician Critical Care, due to nerve damage I tend to drop things ....never a good thing when you drop a patient LOL. Any other EMS or Nurses out there can appreciate what I mean. I no longer work. I am a mother of 3, oldest daughter 19, middle daughter 15 who has picked up my bad eating habits, and a 12 year old son (Boy Scout), so I am moderately active. When my body lets me. I have regained half my weight back, 30 Lbs. It mentally and physically hurts, my general Dr and myself have diagnosed me with BED Binge Eating Disorder. Can't stop eating. I can eat 2 1/2 slices of pizza, a whole Maruchan instant lunch(cup of noodle soup), popcorn, chips. I'm sure some of you have picked up on the problem, yes how much is a problem but also WHAT. I also do not drink enough Water, what's Protein, Vitamins? worst sleever ever. Because of the weight I have put back on, my body is very angry and lets me know it is not happy, planters fasciitis, bursitis in hips, and I found myself becoming winded. Can I recover from this? I really hope so, my general Dr has prescribed me vyvanse FDA approved for BED.Oh, I also forgot to mention I was on medication that warnings read increased hunger and weight gain. no good stay away no longer taking those. Im not sure how many people can relate to my problem.or even if you would admit that your having such a problem, because it really sucks. Today is a new day I will not binge. I am also going for a swallow test and found a Bariatric Dr in St Augustine.

    My Introduction

Thank you for your very nice, and concerned response! I have been seeing a therapist, but not for the weight gain. I was seeing one for the OCD and anxiety, and they prescribed me with Lexapro. Ever sense I started taking it, I hardly ever have anxiety or panic attacks. It really has helped. But I heard it makes people eat - go figure, lol. The Lexapro has given me my spirited, outgoing self back. But I still have low self-esteem issues with my appearance. I know I'm attractive, but my weight is making me feel like I'm not myself. I am not at all in the process, besides making the decision to do it. If the Bypass were the only surgery available, I probably wouldn't have weight loss surgery at all. I heard the Sleeve is a bit safer. At this point, I'm going to have severe health issues in the future if I don't get the weight off. I have found a surgeon. His ratings are 4.8 stars out of 5, which is great! I called and left a voicemail at his office, but no one has returned my call. So, I think I'm going to give them a call in a few minutes. I am not being treated for sleep apnea. I haven't had a diagnosis yet, but I am almost certain that's what I have. The only thing is, I've heard you don't remember your dreams when you have sleep apnea; but I almost always remember mine, and have them frequently. WOW!! 200 pounds in a year?! Congratulations! That is so nice to hear. I am so happy for you. That is like 16 pounds per month! Have you had to continuously replace your clothes? Lol! As much as that would probably cost a lot of money to replace that many wardrobes, I'm actually looking forward to it. I still have a ton of clothes saved from high school that I hope to be able to wear again, since I haven't grown a single inch since I was 15. A few things that I am wondering about are my gastritis and PCOS. I found out I have gastritis, which is when the lining of the stomach is inflamed. I'm wondering if this will be a problem. I know you're not a doctor. I'm just hoping the surgery will maybe even improve my stomach problems. I also have PCOS which can cause women to gain weight. Do you have that?

    Protein !:-(

Jess are you sure about the Syntrax matrix I mean at your stage this could be totally way off base, congratulations by the way you have done wonderfully! As is said I do a lot of taste testing and the people that make the syntrax products , Si03 is the name of the company, they sent me tons of syntrax nectars to try I had asked for matrix but they said in an email " Syntrax Matrix Products are not Weight Loss supplements, they are Meal Replacements, and as such do not meet Bariatric guidelines for post surgical usage." Now you are well past normal post surgery so It probably doesn't apply to you. Blerdgirl- first, every surgeon is different evidently. I know in the hospital and for the first 2 days after surgery I am not to have anything besides Water or Clear liquids. No Protein or anything until day 3. My surgeon even went so far as to tell me the nurses in the hospital may offer me Protein drinks, but do not take them. Now again that's just me, but It seems that a lot of people on here do not take protein on the first few days. I know you asked about sugar and carbs the issue I have is if a mix has say 10 carbs per use that could put you at s high as 40 carbs for the day, which is a lot for a bariatric surgery patient. Sugar and carbs derail weight loss faster than a drive through window. Also sugars and carbs are a huge contributing factor to dumping as well. Basically I can tell you 3 things my team ( surgeon and nutritionist) are adamant about. 1. Always protein first then carbs or sugar if you absolutely have to. 2. Weight loss supplement protein mixes and drinks are different pro Meal Replacement shakes or powders. ( more on this, 90% of protein powders are marketed to weight GAIN, They are designed to add bulk to people doing bodybuilding and heavy heavy weight training. Which is something a bariatric patient most certainly does not want. Many protein powders etc will say on the back in small print..This is not a weight loss product". 3. stick to whey Isolate protein only, hemp, soy, and other Proteins are not readily absorbable in a sleeve patient, they take too long to be absorbed and by the time they would be they have already past the point of digestion, they can also make traveling through your intestines and lower GI tract , rougher than you would like. You may want to post a question to the forums in general, and ask " how much sugar and carbs should I have? I think you would get a lot of good answers. Just as a caveat, I take in less sugar and carbs in my pre op diet than whats in those shakes.
  15. I've told everybody (family, close friends, Facebook )... but that's who I am. When I was dealing with infertility a number of years ago, I talked about it openly too. For me, I like helping educate people on the realities of it, and helping to dispel any misinformation they may have. I wasn't always pro-WLS, but I did my research and found out I was wrong about a lot. Has everyone been positive about it? No. My sister was incredulous and dismissive about the whole thing. One friend expressed concerns because she knows my passion for cooking and is worried about how I'll adjust. I try to be honest about my struggles and my nervousness about the surgery, in hopes that if someone else is on the fence about it, maybe I can help them make a decision. Most of my family and friends, have been great about it. I'm not the first in my family to have WLS... an aunt and two SILs have had it done with differing levels of success. When I explain to those who ask why, I talk about my history of the cycle of weight loss/weight gain, the fad diets, the exercise programs I've tried. And I talk about my comorbidities... I'm the mom of two young kids and I want to be around when they graduate from high school, get married, have kids of their own, etc. Once they understand that I'm not just jumping into it willy-nilly, they're usually pretty on board.
  16. I had my surgery on 9/21. I also had some hernia repair, so I was in bed until Sunday, drinking my fluids like a Good Girl. Monday I weighed myself, and lo and behold, I lost 12 lbs! Needless to say I was thrilled. So, since Monday I've been up and around as usual, feeling great. Today I stepped on the scale, and I GAINED BACK 3lbs. How can this happen on a fluids only diet of about 500 to 600 calories a day? Has anyone else experienced this? I just keep thinking that what happens if this lapband thing doesn't work any better than my eating plans in the past. Help, I need some encouragement. Thanks, Judy
  17. 45 pounds is great! You are headed in the right direction. I also experience slower weight loss than I expected, but at 14 months I am down 90 pounds from my highest and 75 since surgery. When I stall, it lasts for months! I actually thought I was done losing weight when I hit a major stall at 6 months, but since then I have had spurts of weight loss and now I am 20 pounds from goal. Try not to get discouraged. If you keep eating healthy and stay within the parameters of the diet your doctor laid out for you, you will continue to lose. Slow weight loss is better than weight gain any day, right? You got this, Pinkgirl. Congratulations on your success so far!
  18. Is it something you’ve always had so your natural physiology, or something that developed with your weight gain? If it developed with your weight gain it’s likely it will improve. My ankles ached when I had my final big weight gain which was sudden & the balls of my feet burnt. Both these things improved heaps or disappeared completely. I’ve always had a degree of pronation (my ballet teacher lamented all the time) & it hasn’t changed because it’s how my body is built. Unfortunately the knee pain I get from sitting too long hasn’t improved but that’s from being short & sitting in chairs that are too high 😆. You may notice additional pain & discomfort as you lose weight as your muscles & tendons get used to not having to carry & balance your excess weight & get used to your improved posture. I had upper back pain in around month 3 or 4 because my bust had got a lot smaller & I was carrying myself differently. (Buying underwear that fit stopped the pain.)
  19. Hi, I had my gastric sleeve done in August of 2010 and i weighed my heaviest at 324 on June 28 of 2010. I had a complication in my surgery that left an open wound for a month...I also started having severe stomach spasms in November of 2010 that kept escalating to where by May of 2011 I had every X-ray and test known to man and surgeon did exploratory surgery..said he found nothing but after surgery I never saw him or his NP to tell me what might have been causing it except scar tissue. Okay but despite that I managed by May of 2011 to get to my lowest wt of 216..slowly through summer after drama of surgeon vs me & not hearing from him at all after exploratory surgery to see how i was...I decided not to go back to my surgeon bc something wasn't right ...I was very happy and feeling good about myself but i gained a few pounds got up to 222...In September 2011 I was fired from my job which was a major upset b/c i was so shocked..and I was completely heartbroken. Started seeing a therapist in August before b/c of work but after fired could not afford and didn't feel like he was listening to other things I was trying to speak about..Fell into worst depression for 3 months bc could not find a job...I did have one thing keeping me up my NO Saints bc i had season tickets bought before i lost job. But gradually we get up to 229....Did not get a job until February of 2012..And got thrown into a shark tank where i didn't get lunch break and was eating junk and not sleeping right (that had been happening since September..staying up all night sleeping all day to get through pain)...wt gradually creeping up to 240...lost 10 lbs to 230 now back up to 240... I am devastated not only have i had failure in my job area but i failed at having my surgery..I paid lg sum of money and a year ago i was very happy...needless to say this is my fault i have not exercised and the stress and depression has taken over. I am so embarrassed to see some friends b/c they are very critical (only b/c they want me to be successful with wt loss) and I just feel like a big loser. I am trying to get back on track. Then a week ago I had to put my cat of 15 yrs to sleep...I had first severe attack that lasted 2 hrs since February of 2011 (had gallbladder out before sleeve so not that)in which i became so weak and nauseated from pain I almost called ambulance ...then another one last night. Its almost as if my stomach knew that i had insurance so i can continue investigation on why this is occurring b/c I have met so many wt loss its that NEVER had this and they drink carbonated beverages on daily basis ( I may have 16 oz a week if i have any) and its not food instigated..Its like someone is trying to rip something out of me. Has anyone else had wt gain? Did you feel embarrassed and like you failed once again...am I alone in this ..I am trying I have gone back to eating my Protein bars and making my drinks..Trying to be more consciousness (sp?) of all i eat..About to start walking in the morning bc i have to exercise for stress and to get metabolism going. Going to my medical dr Monday and embarrassed b/c i have gained 20 lbs. But I will not go over 240 I will NOT go back..I have to get myself together refocus on ME...i lost that at some point. I have had so much negativity that now instead of feeling good for looking a lot better that i did at 324..i only see that severely obese person. I plan on also going to counseling..which i should have done a year ago when i was having issues with my surgeon and stomach pain..b/c it was a horrible experience.. Anyway, not whining or blaming anything but myself and bad circumstances but you always read about all the success stories ....is anyone out there having any issues like myself or have any words of support..I really need someone who has been through wt loss surgery who understands b/c people who haven't don't although they mean well.. Thank you for listening/reading Tami

    weight loss after 2 years

Yes, an interesting observation. I, also, am just over 2 years. I am maintaining, but had a slippage and a repositioning operation. I was completely empty, which I found tough. I was able to eat salad and raw fruit, which I hadn't had in 2 years. I, now, have 3 1/2 cc and do get a full feeling. Probably I will not get another fill unless I find a weight gain when I have an apt in 2 months. Karen

    Putting Off Gastric Bypass

I am sort of in the same boat with my hip. I had surgery two years ago and reinjured it about 3 months ago..my guess is due to weight gain. I was hoping to put off even seeing the orthro until after RNY but the pain and mobility issues are dramatically escalating. However I really hope ican have WLS first and will wait if able. For each pound lost there is signicant diminished stress on our joints. Don't put off wls too long. GOod luck.

    Hormones? (indelicate)

In case anyone wanders by here and has the same concern... My doc gave me a depo shot and everything has been fine since. I laughed when she said it could cause weight gain.

So I guess time will tell.. I'm more worried I guess like most are about the weight gain.. Does it make any sense to try not to gain weight? Because then when u give birth you will be smaller than what u started??? I'd love to maintain my weight thru out just made it into onederland and would love to never see a 2 in front of my weight again..,
