Pre Pre-Op Diet!?
babyblues4all2c replied to Laceyloveland's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance wants us to lose 10% of our weight. So for me that is about 37 pounds. I’ve lost about 20. I should be getting a call to meet with the surgeon sometime this week. -
I went on vacation the beginning of July and had the same issue. I dropped the weight in just a few days as soon as I got back to my Protein, Water, water, water regimen! I'm sure it will be gone in no time. HW 229, SW 214, CW 162 RNY 3/14/13

Hello everyone, I'm new to this group. Just started the process of vsg. Making an appointment after my passport arrives with Dr. Fernando Garcia. Very nervous! My family is NOT on board with me flying to Mexico for surgery. I'm going anyway. CW 244 goal weight is 150. Height 5'6". 44 years old. Just wanted to see if there are any women my age that are undergoing the same procedure or gave done so. Is it harder for a women in her 40's to recover from surgery does age affect the success? Endoscopy Dr. Says I Can't Have Wls Help! Please!
Elinjacksmom replied to kweenbee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will say this from my experience. My doctor did not do any of these tests before hand & I wish so badly that he had. I also have a narrowing in the esophagus they have discovered & I am now dealing with so many issues. I had vomiting in the hospital & had to stay an extra 3 days. I'm now dealing with horrific acid reflux that I've never had before. I'm also having to go for a scope to dilate my esophagus because of the severe swelling I am unable to hardly eat anything & am on the verge of dehydration daily. I honestly thought that this surgery was going to be the end all fix for all of my weight loss issues & it's actually been one of the most rough & exhausting things I've ever been through in my life. Please don't think I'm trying to be negative just consider carefully going forward with the surgery because there hasn't been a day when I wish I could go back in time & NEVER have done this. I just wished I had more information like this before I had done mine. -
What Was Your Biggest Surprise Post-Op
CT Fats replied to RustBeltRoots's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Def, the speed of weight loss. I was prepared for a slow and steady journey but the weight started melting off and luckily hasn't stopped. -
I have gone through the 6 month insurance requirements, nut visits, and psych eval. I am on day 5 of my pre op diet and have lost 6 pounds and cant help but think this is the dumbest thing I could do to myself. Surgery, out of work for at least 2 weeks and recovery dont seem worth it. Especially if I have to have my gallbladder removed or excess skin. I'm not going to do this! I can lose the weight on my own and keep it off. Whose to say people dont lose the weight and put it all back on eventually? There are not enough long term sleevers out there to know where we'll be in 10, 15, 20 years after our stomach is removed. I think this was a quick fix and I have realized that during this awful pre op diet. I will change my eating habits now as though it was after surgery. You can still make bad choices with the sleeve. Good luck everyone! I'm tired of reading about the leaks and life altering effects of this surgery.

1. To get off BP meds 2. To be able to GO and DO without worrying about how my size will impact my experience (will I fit in the chair, are there hills, am I over the weight limit, etc) 3. To find the confidence to meet someone and start a family 4. To be cute in clothes 5. So my feet and legs won't hurt anymore

The dr seemed excited about the lose. He did not caution me against losing too much but he was surprised I did lose the 14lbs. Losing 14 lbs is not that hard for me due to my size. It is getting harder to do as I get older though. But that's my cycle of lose 10 lbs. gain 15lbs. I can lose it but it always comes back bringing friends.

Hey there Juan:) The liquid diet really bites doesn't it? And I know it will be a long 3 weeks. I feel your pain. But this is the deal - if you don't have the stupid liquid diet, they won't give you the surgery. If you don't have the surgery you will stay in the place you are, which is wanting to lose weight and not having the success that you want. That's why you chose to go the surgery route. After you have your surgery you will completely morph into a whole new person (on the outside anyway). Just think of how you'll look in a few short months post op! It's gonna be awesome. .It sucks to have to do the liquid diet. I know that very well. But you gotta! You can do this. And if you need an understanding ear in the meantime you can find it right here. Hang tough and fight the good fight:)

Yup, Crystal Light (or the generic equivalent) has a decaffeinated, sugar-free iced tea. I think it's too sweet, so I water it down a lot. It's supposed to make 2 quarts, so I make it in a 3-quart jug and it's perfect. Halfway between tea and water. Very refreshing! As for caffeine, I'm drinking more coffee now than I ever have. Probably because I'm cold all the time, and sometimes need the energy boost. Another source of energy while losing weight is Vitamin B-12. Many people take the sublingual variety, but I find that makes me jittery. I take a time-release B-12 every day, and it really helps!

Today is my new beginning
skbishop78 commented on skbishop78's blog entry in SKBishop78's Fight For Self Confidence
I went to see Dr. Morton today and surgery is set for Feb. 20th!!! I am soooo nervous, but very excited. I start the Pre-OP diet tomorrow, and actually am excited. I went to Fazoli's tody and had a great lunch, and ate like half a bag of powdered donuts...not good, but O'well. I don't intend on eating them anymore so...that was it. Got it out of my system...and now I am good. I am starting my new LIFE tomorrow...no more eating to hide the pain of my insecurities. No more eating when no one is around....no more making excuses as to why I have gained weight...I am in control!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :angry and if I screw this up I am really going to kick my self in the ass....but I have complete confidence in myself right now, that this is what I am suppose to be doing...so I will do it!:amen: -
Still Feel Like I Am On A Diet! Gerrrrrr
Ms skinniness replied to jujubeez3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Oct 4 and i think i will alway have to watch what I eat. I don't want to gain my weight back. I plan on eating just like i am now. Mostly protein, low carbs. Don't get me wrong, i will still take bites of foodss that i love, i will just take a bite, not alot. That makes me happy. Diet is only a way of eating. -
Booklean - you sound like you have done so well and will soon be at goal also! Congrats to you. I didn't really have any one problem area. I have always had ugly thighs so that would be it. Everything else has been proportional. I am lucky that I have always had a small stomach (or at least I always have when I haven't been overweight). I really have only been doing cardio since surgery. I live in Minnesota so in the summer months I take advantage of being outside. But once it turns cold out I am going to join a gym and start working on the weight training to further tone up. Good luck and I will be watching for you getting to goal! Frankie

Hi, my name is Theresa Bailey. I live in Magnolia, DE. I had my surgery in Aug. 21, 2015..My SW was 250 CW 217. I only average 1.5 a week. A lot people claim it is because of my age. I am 5'4, and 64 yrs young. I have two major stokes and unfortunate for me they had me a lot of steroids and other meds that assisted my weight gain, (of course the rest of my own doing. Can someone help with the best ways to help boost my lost..I have registered to join the gym..any thing would be helpful..

My Mom told me today that she really doesn't want me to have the surgery. Her reason is that according to what she's learned most people regain the weight so it just doesn't seem like the surgery would be worth ruining my life for. She also said it was my body my choice. She also said she knew people who had bypass and were just as sure as I am that they could change their lifestyle regain all the weight they lost. I tried to explain everything but just kind of ended with I just don't want to die before I can see my kids grow-up. I'm so heartbroken right now. She also brought up all the doubts I struggle with especially about failure. I want so bad not to be the fat girl anymore. I still am going forward with all the pre-op prep and the surgery in August I just wish my Mom was okay with it.

Just wanted to share with everyone that I reached my goal in 4 and 1/2 months!!! I started as a 50 y.o. lightweight with surgery weight of 213 and today I am at my goal of 145 - that's 68 lbs lost in a little over 4 months. I set my goal at 145 because it is a normal BMI (I am 5'5") and should be easy to maintain. But I think I will go for 10 more pounds to 135. This hasn't been the easy way out since I worked for every single pound lost. I did not just let the sleeve do the work - I have been exercising since surgery starting with walking 3 miles/day and then adding in biking. I am currently biking around 75-100+ miles a week along with brisk walking most days (Yes I do work full-time also and have a family). I have had no problems, can eat anything and have never been sick from the sleeve. I have been good about staying on the diet of 800 calories with 30 grams of carbs. I figured I had 80% of my stomach removed and paid thousands of dollars out of pocket I was going to work this thing as hard as I could. I haven't dealt with any hair loss yet but don't think I am totoally out of the woods since I recently read that for some it doesn't start until 6 months post-op. But I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am not going to go for plastics because everything has recovered just fine and should continue to get better as I add more weight training into my workouts. I think the girls are better than before now that all that back fat is gone! Yuk. So for those of you just researching good luck and I do recommend the sleeve. I am not going to say I love my sleeve like most people do - don't get me wrong I like it A LOT. But I think I will save the proclamation of love for a year out when I see how well I do with maintenance. Best of luck to everyone. Frankie VSG 3/22/10 Dr Aceves
