  1. My sleeve date approaches quickly!! I've been on hear reading and noting things to do, not to do, things to eat. I'm most nervous about understanding my new routine, but I know it will all come together. Can't thank everyone on her enough for sharing your stories. They've helped me so much!!!

    Excited, Sad, what next?

I didn't tell my husband or my family that I was having surgery until 2 weeks before. I did not want any opinions or negativity. It was my decision for my body. We were told in one of the pre surgery classes the less people you tell the better off you are. Everyone will not be happy for you especially if they are overweight. Some will say "you took the easy way out". Ha! This is not easy. Now my husband is so happy with his "new" wife and my kids are so proud of their "new" mother. I am having sooo much fun shopping for smaller younger looking clothes. This surgery is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Prayers for you that once your surgery is over your relationship with your husband will improve. He maybe afraid or just feeling insecure. Hang in there. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    So It Begins!

Unfortunately I still don't have good news to report! I am so aggravated- I controlled myself and waited to contact Cigna to see if they had finished their review and they told me that my surgery has been denied because they haven't recvd the paperwork showing I have had 6 months of a physician supervised diet nor did they recv a letter of neccessity from a dr other than the surgeon. WTH! What in the world is my case worker even doing? I have tried getting a hold of her since Friday, left a message a few times and she hasnt even called me back? I'm so infuriated, after all the work I've done to get to this point and due to the incompetence of my case worker I'm sitting here on pins and needles just waiting. I tend to be a perfectionist in alot of matters and I have a complete intolerance to people who don't do what they are supposed to do. I wanted know complications with the paperwork so I reviewed Cigna's requirements numerous times to make sure that I completed every single thing that is required and because the case worker did not send it I'm sitting here with another 2 weeks wasted waiting! Does any one know If I can send documentation directly to the insurance company or am I totally dependent upon my surgeons office making sure they get everything sent in?
  4. First, let me say that I am extremely grateful to my new sleeve for giving me a chance at controlling my weight. Yet, I feel all I do is time out my day...water, protein, water, protein.....repeat, repeat, repeat. I seem to get both in about 4-5 days a week but just can't make it all 7 days. I am 11 weeks post-op and I guess I figured it would get easier. I am a teacher and don't always have the time to get water in when I teach for 4 hours before my first break. It is something I need to learn to deal with better. I have seen great results...44 pounds lost post-op and 64 pounds overall. I would gladly welcome any secrets any of you may have.

    Muscle aches

Anyone else having tightness in their legs? It's not really a muscle cramp because it doesn't come and go, it's like a constant feeling of tension. It's mostly in my calves. As of yesterday I have a "stitch" in my side too. I'm two weeks post op.

    Risk of a leak?

I am like 99% sure your dietitian is wrong. My surgeon said leaks will happen rarely and if they do, it will be in the following weeks after having the surgery. He made no mention of it being something to worry over for the rest of your life. And the idea that you could actually stuff enough food into your stomach to cause a leak let alone stretch the stomach (another one I see frequently on here) is pretty much impossible unless you like forcing food to the point of feeling like you're going to explode. You'd feel horrible way before you got to the bursting point, and you'd be vomiting up quite a bit of food so yeah, not likely to happen. Seriously, this is so small a likelihood, I'd actually discuss what the dietitian is telling you with your surgeon ASAP so they can reassure you, and also correct the dietitian from spreading this kind of false information.

    Hi Y'all : ) WV!

I'm a week ahead of you! Welcome!
  11. Hello to all! I am a 45 year old woman who is ready to reclaim her life!!!!!:bounce: Just received my pre-auth from the weight loss center and I am so relieved. They had all the paperwork for over 6 weeks. I have been dealing with my weight for most of my life. I can lose a good chunk, but TA DA...... it comes right back on and more.:help: Truthfully, this has been very depressing. I have tried to accept myself for who I am; although, I do not feel like this is really me. I am not near as active as I used to be in addition to feeling so low energy. Are there any of you that plan on starting a plan such as weight watchers prior to your band?? I am considering doing this as a mental preparation. Good luck to all in your venture!!!!!!
  12. Another December banding here. Remember to check in at December07 group under Monthly support groups. I have been undergoing the Optifast diet since the beginning of June on my own prior to seeing the surgeon. I have been successful so far but know I couldn't keep it off. I drank nothing but shakes for 14 weeks and have slowly been reintroducing food over the past 6 weeks. I will end the diet next week but I plan to keep on dieting on my own until surgery. I will be accountable only to myself but I will be attend the support group for after-Optifast until surgery.
  13. Hi Yes I felt the same way, what did I do. You do need to walk and it does get better I promise. To bad you had to go back to work so soon. I was still on pain meds. until the second week. Things got better. Now I feel great a little sore if I bend to the right where the port is. I am having trouble eating solids, sometimes my stomach just doesnot want it. So I went back on liquids 2x a day. I am still bloated after drinking or eating.
  14. Hi....future bander here (figure in about 6 weeks or so). I see people talk about their "shoulder hurting"....exactly where IS the port anyway? I kindof figured it would be up under my boob or something.:phanvan

    What have I done??? yikes

It will pass, I promise. I went to work the Monday after having surgery on Friday. I was a mess. I did it, but it was stupid to do. You will feel better, I promise. For me it was 4 weeks before I was 100% normal, energy wise.

    Pre op help

You are welcomed. I'll be a month out on Monday. I was right where you are now. It will be over soon. The best news I can give you now.....I care very little about food. I have to watch the clock to make sure I eat. Also I was on two weeks of clear liquids after surgery. I breezed through it hunger wise, but had very low energy. Best wishes.

    5 days post op/

I had my surgery on gastric sleev on 11/11 , I was 7 ibs up when I got home on 11/12... I lost the 7, but I'm only 2 ibs down from day of surgery... it's so disappointing esp when you hear people loose 10 ibs or more their first week! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Meeting milestones

Congrats! I had my 3 month follow up last week and was told that 30% of excess weight loss at 3 months and 50% at 6 months was the norm so it seems fairly similiar/standard. My loss was at 33% so I had that same feel good feeling you have right now but I'm just 3 months behind ya!
  22. That app sounds like a good idea. It'll keep you on a routine. Good old-fashioned push ups worked for me in the past. I started by doing them against a wall because I wasn't strong enough to do them on the ground. Then after a couple of weeks I graduated to "girl push-ups", then regular ones (which were still super hard, so I mostly the girly ones). You can switch up th position of your arms to target different areas.

    Help Me Dig Deep

Simple carbs are the enemy, but complex carbs are "good" carbs that can be very beneficial, especially if you're working out so consistently! The following are some examples of complex carbs. Of course, you need to take into account where you are in terms of food stages and what you can tolerate. At 7 weeks out, some of the examples below may not work for you yet or may be too hard to digest (do some research before you try all of them!). Whole Grains - millet, oats, wheat germ, barley, wild rice, brown rice, buckwheat, oat bran, cornmeal and amaranth. Fruits - apricots, oranges, plums, pears, grapefruits and prunes. Vegetables - Broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, turnip greens, eggplant, potatoes, yams, corn, carrots, onions, all types of lettuce, celery, cucumbers, cabbage, artichokes and asparagus Legumes - lentils, kidney Beans, black beans, peas, garbanzo beans, soy beans and pinto beans

    Hiatal hernia?

I too had the Hiatal hernia.. but was not found out until he was doing the surgery.. Not a problem..he fixed it and did the surger too, then told me about it when I woke up.. but I signed a paper before surgery that said "if I find a hernia its ok to repair it" of course I signed the paper..and the only thing was after the surgery I had a hard time taking a deep breath..but they say that is normal for that hernia repair.. it went away after about a week or so.. no pain or anything from that.. I dont have a gallbladder and had no pain before hand with the hernia.. so I had no tests other than an EKG before surgery.. but thats ok.. everything went so well.. and Im one month post op today..and things are great Im down about 33 lbs so Im very happy to lose that in a month.. hoping the next month goes as well as im going to add some exercise to the program now.. Im back full time at both my jobs.. 80 hrs a week with lift restrictions.. so far so good.. just take your vitamins and protein protein protein... thats the key.. rest up while you are off.. you will be tired.. but thats all normal..and walk walk walk.. good luck. hope this helps.
