Any FEBRUARY sleevers?!
SuzzyQ_delli replied to Salinagetssleeved's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery 2/18 I get full very easily. 4 baby spoonfuls and I'm done! Sugar free Popsicles seem easier to get fluids in but I limit two a day maybe try that. Yogurt (which I did not like before surgery) is the easiest on my stomach. Hope that helps! -
Good job! Everybody is different and everybody's body reacts differently. I bet in addition to different doctors having different treatment plans, they probably have a different plan for each of their patients based on what they learned about them pre-op! So, I think the most important thing is to be open and honest with your doctor (and yourself) about what you are and are not doing in regards to eating and exercise. I think in addition to watching portion size, it’s also important to count calories. If I didn’t start counting calories, I would have had no idea that the food I typically ate, even in small portions, was horrible and there were just as satisfying alternatives that are better. For instance, for breakfast, I would gear towards maybe a Sausage McMuffin with egg. One of those is not huge, even for those with restriction could probably go down ok with some good chewing. But that sucker has 450 calories, 30g carbs, and only 21g protein! A better choice with what I've found to be just as satisfying, a ham and cheese omelet on low carb tortilla - 235 calories, 12g carbs, and 25g protein! Even other things as simple as yogurt, Yoplait light vs. Yoplait thick and creamy or regular pudding vs sugar free pudding, both the same amount of food, but a difference of almost 100 calories. That’s the main reason I do keep track of what I eat, it just helps me to make better choices. I'm not melting away, but I'm ok with that now because I know I'm doing the best I can making good food choices and better eating habits. The weight will come off in time. I've already lost over 20lbs in 2 months when it took me 30 months to lose 80lbs on my own, so I think I'm doing pretty darn good with my band!

Ditto for me. All of those same things plus turkey jerky, fruit, yogurt and my best friend since day one - coffee! It's about control, not denial.

Normal to eat this much?
kimbernada replied to nikilynne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At almost 7 months out, I can only eat a 1/2 cup of chili or soup with three saltines - BUT I can drink an 8 ounce protein shake or yogurt normally, so I think it depends on how dense the food is. If the soup is more liquid than content, I could see how a person could eat more. (Kind of like yogurt, which is really only 3/4 of a cup now since most are 6 ounces.) -
It is interesting with the different diet stages with different doctors. I had my surgery in Mexico and the diet I was advised follows the Vanderbilt sleeve diet. I had a week of clears, a week of full liquids and now a week to three weeks of soft foods such as blended meats/moist, soups, oatmeal and grits or cream of wheat, scrambled or soft eggs and yogurt. I tried my first soft food of Greek yogurt and refriwd beans with a little cheese puréed together. Yummmm! My sleeve tolerated it well.

july 2013 sleevers
kw2walker replied to sureaboutme2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on the 22nd of July, all is going well. I was able to get all of fluids in during week on and two. Finding the soft purée food stage interesting and allows me to be creative. Pain is ok, I haven't been on any pain meds. I stopped the morphine while in the hospital it made me so nauseous. The hardest part for me was getting thrush, my tongue was coated and my breath was so rank! But once I was allowed to have my liquid protein drinks and yogurt everything got better. I have a sharp pain from the excess skin pulling from time to time, so I wear a griddle to keep the skin still. I am glad you are doing well. Sorry to hear about the emergency surgery. Keep up the great work, -
Where are the November Sleevers?
becweaves replied to ToccoraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first few days post-op it was hard for me to find anything I wanted. I gagged on yogurt. I found that really cold and really warm were the best options for me - sugar free Popsicles and hot tea were the best for me. Glad that you are home and no longer throwing up! -

So sorry I've been out for a bit. My husband and I do travel-related stuff, and we took a group of students from my university on a post-graduation cruise. It was a blast--the kids were fantastic, very nice, very mature, and the trip was wonderful start to finish. BEST NEWS: Despite drinking more than I usually do (I probably had 2 fruity rum drinks a day plus a glass of wine with dinner) and eating dessert every evening (chocolate melting cake--yes, with ice cream), I got back on the scale this morning and celebrated that I am exactly the same weight as before we left. Yep. No gain. No loss, either, which I didn't really expect--I think everything balanced out, since we did a LOT of walking and running around, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, and I actually did use the ship's gym and walking track a couple of times. I had no trouble finding food that was appropriate for me and my still-picky sleeve. I discovered that I still could not tolerate prime rib or pork roast (had bites off my husband's plate to check), but sleevie LOVED most of the seafood options. Also really, really loved the wok-cooked vegetables available at every lunch--you select your own veggies and they add meat (I just did veggies) and sauce and cook quickly in a wok--fresh and delicious and very good for me! I ate fruit and hard-boiled egg whites for Breakfast, frozen yogurt or soft-serve ice cream as a snack, some peanuts, veggies for lunch with a couple of thin slices of cheese, and the dining room dinner (appetizer, usually Soup for me; entree, usually seafood or vegetarian; and dessert, always chocolate melting cake for me!). It was easy, delicious, and I felt GREAT during the trip--not stuffed or uncomfortable. I will say that the plate/bowl size was incredibly large, even by American standards--they held a ridiculous amount of food. And the serving utensils were designed to give out big glops of food--even things like sour cream were self-serve with these HUGE serving spoons. salad dressings were provided in squeeze bottles that had really wide-spout tops--designed for fast service, but the end result is that people poured on HUGE amounts of these things really easily. And I noticed that in fact, you could correlate the food choices to the body type of people eating them--thin people of every age ate fruit, veggies, and a modest amount of heavier Protein food; heavier people ate really big portions, fattier foods, and several different Desserts at a single meal (it's an all-you-can-eat buffet at every meal on board). It was really kind of eye-opening, having so recently been in the "other camp," as it were. My sleeve has made it possible for me to see/smell/be around food and NOT WANT IT. This would never have been the case before. I would definitely have overindulged, and if I didn't, I would have felt like I was missing out on something. We went to a "midnight Mexican buffet," and I had--NOTHING. Nothing looked good enough to eat just because it was there. It was kind of strange--I noticed into the second or third day that I wasn't even thinking about food--I was just enjoying the activities and the company. :-) Normal relationship with food, maybe?? is it possible? -

My dietician didn't give me any macro or calorie specifications. Instead, I was given diet for diabetics. Daily intake is 2 servings of milk product, 2 servings of fruit, 5 servings of fat, unlimited nonstarchy vegetables, 3 servings grains/beans/starchy vegetables and 7 servings of protein. Have a list of what makes a serving size. Example, one fat serving is small avocado, 1 Tbsp nuts or seeds ot 1 Tbsp salad dressing. One grain/beans category serving is 2 slices of whole wheat bread, medium baked potato, 1 cup rice or pasta Milk serving is 1 cup nonfat plain yogurt or skim or low fat milk. One serving of protein is 1 egg, 3 oz lean chicken or fish, hard cheese Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Wheres My June Bandsters??
iamcindylou replied to mcuevas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all...I've been on what they called a modified liquid diet since a week ago today. My bariatric nurse said that if I'm hungry, eat. She said to make good choices like nonfat/lowfat, which I've done. I am down 7 lbs. I've eaten strawberries, watermellon, some grilled fish and chicken. As far as the liquids, it's been protein shakes, tomato basil soup (Progresso) which is wonderful along with nonfat cottage cheese, plain fat free greek yogurt with dry sugar free jello mixed in (which is pretty good) some skim milk, sugar free pudding and pudding pops. My doc didn't require me to lose weight prior. He said it was to reduce the fat around the liver. The first couple of days of the pre op diet I was sick! I had bad headaches and sick to my stomach. I am so much better since I added a little food in there. Hang in there everyone...it'll all be worth it! We've got this!!! I will be banded next Tuesday June 5th!!! -
3 weeks post op tomorrow... I can eat a good amount. Is this normal?
Teachamy replied to gohelpyourself's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc. had me start "trying" to swallow a Tbl. spoon or 2 the first 2 weeks, and then pureed foods after that. (Obviously my main source of nutrition was shakes. I felt like I was a baby on formula!) Week 3 I could eat soft and mushy foods and work my way up. I know by week 3 I ate my first scrambled egg and was regularly eating 1/4 c. of yogurt or cottage cheese. A few weeks after that, I worked my way up to a half cup, but I have the slimy puke reaction if I take a bite or 2 too many. chicken and I have gone our separate ways, but crab is a great food for me too. (I had crab cakes last week. YUM.) I think if this is normal for you, this is normal for you, and your surgeon knows what s/he is doing. Do you count your calories/protein on MyFitness Pal or some other website? That helps me know when too much is too much if I am feeling particularly hungry. -
I'm a 21st sleever too! I am on purées now and am struggling. I really cant stand eating paste like stuff. I kind just mush things around to make them purée like. I had a cup of French onion soup from panera for dinner and snack tonight. 1/2 dinner 1/2 snack. I just chewed the onions well. No croutons though. I actually felt like a normal person for a little bit. Lunch was egg drop soup. Snack was a la yogurt that I ended up dumping. Dont eat those, I felt horrible. Breakfast was egg salad. So far no problems...

HELP! Soft food phase diet
LindafromFlorida replied to AliciaRenee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You do not say when you had surgery. At 6 months post op my husband and I eat 1 boiled egg or 1 scrambled egg and cannot add anything extra because that fills us up. I would never make a casserole for the two of us and we steer clear of any kind of potato or pasta, and bread, because we do not want to go back to gaining weight. At 5 weeks post op I choked terribly on a small piece of soft crockpot chicken (thought I was having a heart attack), so went two more weeks on soft foods. We have kept our meals simple. No fuss. Tonight we shared ONE Chic-Fil-A asian salad, and could only eat half. I recommend eating a slow, small amount of anything, and see how full you get really fast. I would eat about 2-3 level T. refried beans, with melted Laughing Cow cheese melted, very filling. At 3 months I was told I was eating too much protein and I started substituting more soft veggies, especially zucchini. I did try the turkey meatballs, with a little sauce (barbecue) because dry meats might tend to stick in your chest. You could add a little mushroom soup to simmer them in, with some Worcestershire sauce or spices you like. I relied on a small yogurt every day for breakfast (less than 13 grams of sugar), no lunch, and dinner has always been very light and uncomplicated. BTW, I think my first favorite "food" was a lowfat turkey chili I made for Christmas, as I was craving something a little spicy. Had no problem with that. Best of luck! -
Tastes nutty, good in yogurt or plain.

1 Week Out Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery
lauraleigh9mm replied to lauraleigh9mm's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
You know it was funny, I did mine relatively fast, maybe 60 days tops. I feel pretty good about the choice I made for the GST. I LOVE food. I do, but now I will love it in small quantities. I will miss the booze. I did enjoy having a cocktail to relax. I know that I might be able to drink again, but the smell of it still makes me sick. Talk about aversion therapy! Giving up soda has not been any hardship. I am suprised at how little I eat, just a few bites and that is all. My soft food include mini raviolis from the can (I can eat 3 and that fills me up) cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes (blah), soup, and I had a bit or cheesy rice the other day. So far no issues, or heartburn. I am taking my vitamins (liquid) each day, making sure I get all my nutrients. -
So it is the end of my 6th fast day - week three and it has gone well... got a little hungry earlier, but lasted out and enjoyed my frozen fruit and yogurt! All packed and ready for out school trip to Spain! It is gonna be a lot of fun - with a little stress added in but that goes with the turf! Not sure how I am going to get my fasts days in; I will see how it goes! Wish me luck... speak to you soon x

Hey y'all: Sorry I've been MIA for a few--it's been a hectic time at work (it's the centennial of the founding of our university, so lots of extra programs, concerts, etc.). Down to 187 without really trying--so very strange--I honestly think it's the focus on veggies and fruit that's doing it. I don't eat a lot of cheese any more, either, so that might be helping (?). Most Protein now comes from vegetable sources (nuts, beans) and some dairy (milk, yogurt), but I eat a lot more vegetables and fruit than I have in a long time. I'm actually really looking forward to summer's bounty at the farmers' markets that I frequent. Wednesday is my 1-year sleeve-aversary. I'm going to try my hardest to get 1 more pound off between now and then to Celebrate that date with 120 pounds GONE. 120 flipping pounds--off my body. I am SO INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL for this sleeve!!!!! -
Nectar Caribbean Cooler...yes!
Thoria replied to takingmylifebacc's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I love the fuzzy navel, but then again, I flavored mine with some additional items...I first took 1 bag of frozen raspberries and 1 bag of frozen strawberries, allowed them to thaw, and put them through a food processor. I strained out all the pulp and seeds, and then froze the juice into 2" silicone ice cube trays. the silicone makes them very easy to pop out. For my Protein drink, I used one frozen 2" cube of raspberry-strawberry juice, a handful of regular ice cubes, 1 cup of Light and Fit vanilla Yogurt, 1 cup of soy milk, and a small packet ( 1-qt size drink mix) of Crystal Light in either Pomegranate-Cherry, or Fruit Punch flavors (just the mix, no additional water). I put this through my smoothie blender, and have my taste buds dancing! It makes a lot, but with little sips, I'm satisfied for a hour or two. This helps to meet my hydration requirements of 64 oz a day, and puts a nice dent in my protein requirements too. I ran this recipe by my Dr, & she had no problem with me having this Post-VSG surgery & I'm only 1 week out. Enjoy everyone! ???? -
March 2013 Surgery Dates?
mileend replied to ShannaS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Am I the only one who has had post-surgery complications? I tried to find the post-surgery thread but it appears to have disappeared!!! I ended up being re-hospitalized five days after my surgery because I had paralytic ileus - essentially my intestines just stopped moving entirely and nothing - including gas - could go anywhere. It was extremely painful. I was in hospital for four days. Now I am back home but I am having trouble with the incision over my port - it came partially open when they took the staples out and while it is not open all the way to the port (i.e. it is partially healed) it is an ugly mess. I have to go to the clinic every day to have my bandages changed and for it to be irrigated and checked, and it's going to heal into a massive, massive scar. One of the surgeons from the team who treated me reassured me that they could "revise" the scar later and right now we have to focus on saving the port - which of course makes sense - but after having so many complications it's hard not to be discouraged. I am on antibiotics for the open incision. At least I have not have any trouble swallowing at all. I am at the pureed foods stage and have had yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, and pureed sphagetti sauce (with meat in it) no problem. My stomach is so happy to have real food in it again! For lunch today I'm going to try scrambled eggs and for supper mashed potatoes with some pureed apple pork. I'm eating under 1000 calories a day and not having any trouble sticking with those portions - I already have 3 ml in my band. From when I started the pre-surgery diet I am down 20 lbs, 2 pants sizes, and my BMI is down almost 4 points. So it's working. But no more complications, please!!! -
Mine is liquid/pureed and its not much of a variety. creamy soups, cream of wheat baby food consistency fruit and yogurt. Not appetizing at all. My doc gave a strict list.
