Family plunged into panic mode :(
Teachamy replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So sorry you are going through this! I would suggest adding a Protein shake, a yogurt, a Protein Bar, or at least a handful of nuts to carry you through a workout. I am diabetic and I know first hand that low blood sugars are no fun. Even a glass of milk would be helpful--good carbs and protein. Your body is telling you you need more. Maybe just 16 oz. of milk would be enough? I know you're an expert at all this stuff, so I know you know all the answers, but what is your weight goal including plastics? Does your medical team agree? I know you will come through it all! -
Family plunged into panic mode :(
CBT replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Her comment falls squarely within the context of our conversation. She told me I could not lose another pound before surgery. She asked what caloric intake was. She needed to know how much I was working out and what type. She explained the metabolic needs to recover with my goals. She was trying to reassure me that I would not gain weight by eating and being inactive. Her experience is that WLS patients emotionally struggle to eat enough postop to promote wound healing. She also was asking me to trust her so I did not lose too much weight in recovery. It was a long and involved consultation. So I don't think it's a typical conversation for a general surgeon or cardiac surgeon or a orthopedic surgeon to have unless you ask. They will tell you to eat and the demand for calories and Protein is high but they tend to say vague things like "you need it heal" "you need your strength" etc. Probably won't get into metabolic rate. Only us WLS patients get hyper about it :-P I will say the night nurse was a bit freaked when I asked for yogurt at 7pm and then a turkey sandwich at 3am. Lol. -
Random restriction...temperamental band!
Julie norton replied to coachshalyn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes. I feel more restricted in the am. First food of the day takes me a bit. Sometimes I need to get up and walk around . Then some days. Like someone posted Yogurt is barely doable. Is it hydration ? I usually drink the same amount of water. Once I'm irritated it takes awhile to settle. Then back to life light! -
Gas pains. Is it food?
Woodys replied to FunnyDuddies's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had sushi and sashimi, and later a yogurt cup with fresh fruit, honey and granola and a double shot of Scotch neat....I had horrible gas after surgery, I'm 2-1/2 weeks post-op and still have gas.....so I'm sure it wasn't the food. The Recovery nurse told me it was the anesthetic (sp), that it affects a lot of people that way. What's wrong with farting in front of your husband?....mine sure doesn't pinch them back! I wonder if the Queen farts in front of the Duke? Carol -
My doc suggests 3 meals and 2 snacks. I eat string cheese, a tablespoon of peanut butter(reduced fat), cottage cheese(for a change mix it with SF jello...it tastes like fruit/CC combo without the extra cals), yogurt, SF/FF pudding, half of a protein bar, 8 oz skim milk...

started two days ago. Mine is two weeks... 3 carnation instant breakfast (essentials) - 1 yogurt - 2 pieces of fruit -1 cup of broth - Jelllo & sugar free popsicles. NO COFFEE - not even decaf ... My doctor told me on Tuesday that he doesn't want me to be hungry - so if I need to supplement with a scrambled egg or an occasional oatmeal or an extra yogurt that is fine with him. I have been dreading this... but on the second day it really isn't that bad... I am putting protein powder into my shakes and honestly I am not hungry - I like the cucumber idea because chewing and crunching on something is the only thing that is making me mildly crazy... I also heard ice chips... so far so good..

Have to try cream soup yet...having a little greek yogurt after I finish this shake:) Feeling blissed out and high energy. Got 10,000 steps today and feel great:) -
Feeling The Crave To Actually Chew Something!
Carolinacrumb replied to ShazamLOL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mashed potatoes! Just chew them really really well... I ate mashed potatoes 5 days after surgery and did just fine. Or you could try watered down cream of wheat or oatmeal, and yogurt? -
marinading these meats are important....They are very lean and dry out fast...Cook as you would a roast but not as long....there are many marinades out there for beef...You can use onion Soup mix, yogurt garlic and thyme....The sauce makes a great gravy! My son bagged a moose 2 years ago and we ate a lot of moose meat.....using the slow cooker was a life saver....

When swallowing tablets of medicine?
tappingmom replied to cocoa8utter's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Try using yogurt instead of water, helps mask the awful taste. -
So I'm 7 days out, just starting purees today. Had to pop in at a work party and of course there was NO food I could eat. I did down a yogurt before I went, but sitting there with food in my face became a THING! So I dipped celery into a smooth dip. And it was good. So I did that several times. Still good. Fast forward 45 minutes until I arrived home and guess what?? Out she goes! I didn't think about the fat content that might have been in ranch dip, I thought, oh well, similar to yogurt, probs has protein, I should be good. Pouchie says "That's a no from me Dawg!!!"

Finding The Lap Band Green Zone
TinaMarieB replied to Alex Brecher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so unsure if what I am feeling is related to the fill, just because of the band, or is something wrong? I tend to have discomfort (not pain) under my rib area on the side of my port access. This usually happens when I have been sitting for a period of time (long car rides) and not all the time. Also, it is difficult to eat Breakfast. I can barely get my meds down and 3 oz. of greek yogurt, taking me about 45 minutes. Is this normal? BTW, weight loss has slowed to about 1.5 lbs /week. (I was banded in August 2011 and am currently down 60 lbs, for a total of 90 lbs off.) -
Just had my surgery yesterday, May 7th and so far so good. Had clear liquids the first day. Today I had cream of tomato/roasted pepper soup, Spirutein shakes, and greek yogurt. I am sore, but have tried to walk a lot today. Gas pain from the air injected and some local soreness is what I have experienced so far. Tylenol has been my main pain med so far and hopefully tomorrow I will not need it.

I'm exactly the same as you, the odd food seems to go down slower and feels stuck but it passes quickly. For Breakfast I've been having yogurt with a couple tablespoons of raisin bran and 3 diced up strawberries, lunch 4 triscuits with low fat cheese, salsa and 6 cherries, supper grilled chicken and vegies. I'm sticking to their instructions to have 3 1/2-1c meals but they are not keeping me full till the next meal. Also I'm only hitting about 750 calories a day doing this? Do you think its okay to add a 4th meal just to get up to 1000 calories??? I might end up going to Thunder Bay for my first fill but its a 3 hr drive each way. SWLC sent my physician a video, learning package and all the equipment he`ll need to do my fills. Honestly he is a brilliant man! Do you know if there is anyone in Sault Ste. Marie, I`m going that way for holidays in just over a week.

September Sleevers!
aloudwhisper replied to SleevedSharon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry to learn that you are going through all of this. I was on liquid pain killers. Hydrocodine and I had a pill for nausea that desolved in my mouth. You should still be on liquids and creams. You might want to have some yogurt so that you can tolerate your meds. It's gonna get easier. You are 2 weeks behind me. -
Any September People
littleperson? replied to newgrandmother's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Scorp I was sleeved on Sept 4 and I feel the same way I'm not hungry but watching my friends and family eat is killing me!!! I lost 12lbs since the surgery. I eat and suck on Sonic ice and use the Mio, Propel Zero, Crystal Light, Isopure Cookies and Cream protein shake and chicken broth too. I cant wait for the soft foods. Tommorrow I start full liquids yogurt, smoothies, grits, and oatmeal, cant wait to have something with texture to it. I went to Walmart and bought the GE single use blender to help get fluids down I make an ICEE with Mio or Crystal Light to make it taste better. How much have you lost since surgery day? -
Just banded and uncomfortable after eating
bmj851 replied to angemc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded a week ago (8/1) and was able to start mushy foods (thin oatmeal, strained cream soups, yogurt, etc) as well as doing my liquids and I'm having trouble as well. I end up feeling like I have a knot in the center of my chest. I need to take my own advice, but seriously take is super slow. Take a sip, let it go down, then do another. I've found that it helps a lot. -
JANUARY BANDSTERS ~~ how is everyone?
Renee1003 replied to Renee1003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The "exception" that my doc made for me yesterday was VERY much appreciated cause TODAY I feel restriction - for the first time -- nothing MAJOR - but something!!!!!! I just ate a 1/2 of Greek yogurt and I'm good --- I COULD eat the other half but why??? They say the first week after a fill is usually good so we'll see after next week where I'm at. My next fill is scheduled for the 2nd week of april --- Really want to be down another 20 pounds by May --- can't imagine that I won't be able to do it - but I also thought I'd be down so much more by NOW. Reading all that you wrote has helped me - let's all stay in touch. Thanks! -
I don't chart anymore, but the entirety of my diet consisted of: - Wife making home made meatballs, of lean ground beef, eggs, and almond meal in place of bread crumbs (tbsp of low sodium ketchup), eating no more than 2-3 at a time, 0g carbs - String cheese (0g carbs) - Maple Leaf farms chicken nuggets (3 at a time, 8g of carbs, tsp of KC Masterpiece original BBQ sauce) - Burgers with 0-2g sliced block cheese, generally cut up to ~ 1/6 of a pound and eat in small bites with dabs of ketchup (NO BUNS), 0-2g of carbs - Peanuts and almonds, unsalted, 1/4 cup, 3-5g carbs, mostly nullified from fiber - 2-4L of water a day - Vitamin supplements (Bariatric Advantage ADEK MV, Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate + vitD chewable tablets.. bottle is fricken huge, Jamieson C+D chewables, Walmart OTC iron mini tablets) - At the beginning I estimated it between 1000-1400 cals a day, didn't really change the diet much, stuck to the same regimen every day switching meats between chicken and beef daily. Post-op after I get to the stage of being able to eat anything (i.e. meats), I plan on sticking to a similar premise of 1000-1400 cals a day, less than 20g carbs a day, 2L+ of water daily, and of course the supplements. I plan on it being a permanent diet, just expanding my diet a little more to include vegetables I can tolerate (hoping my taste buds change). Kinda paranoid about my immediate post-op foods (yogurt drink, unsweetened applesauce, oatmeal, etc., which tend to have more carbs than I'd want) but more than willing to be patient given the importance of healing.

3months out, suddenly zero hunger
Torriluv87 replied to gigiinDC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if you were referring to me but if it'll help any i don't have a set menu. I try to stick to low carb. 50g carbs and under, 60 to 70g Protein and at least 64oz of Water. Most days im good. But others i struggle. I try to log everything. Even the "bad" foods, which of im being honest I've had way more of than i should. I've been taking sips of things like full sugar soda. Which is dangerous. Especially since it's very uncomfortable. But after this last time that's a non issue. I've been slipping but on my good days I'll have as follows: Bk: boiled egg Snack: half a greek yogurt Lunch: 2 to 3 oz of meat protein Snack: 1oz cheese stick Dinner: 2oz meat protein .5oz veg maybe a carb but usually not Snack: last half of Greek yogurt maybe 2.5 oz. I have no food scale as of yet but plan on it in the very near future. I think meal planning is in this vein. What's does your food consist of if you don't mind me asking? I seriously need meal suggestions and ideas. Sorry this is so long im really struggling. Going back to my shakes until i can get a better handle on my food. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App -
Had my week post op appt today and everything has gone great. I was cleared for stage two diet which adds in yogurt, SF pudding and cottage cheese (not a fan of it though) which made me so happy as i am so sick of clear liquids. I am also hoping that it gives me some energy as I have had none it seems since surgery. The surgeon said that will go away in a couple weeks and that i can resume going to gym in two weeks as well. Hope everyone else is doing great too!

Pre-OP Liquid diet recipes
mama3beartn replied to chamilton0323's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes this is so nice. I got the Hot and Sour and strained all the stuff out and it was soooo yummy. I just finished my first week of three week pre-op diet and doing good. I'm down 8lb. ***My life saver is the sugar free jello. I add 1 scoop of Unjury Unflavored protein powder to a cup of cold water, mix real good and then add that to my already dissolved jello that is 1 cup hot water. I like firm firm jello so I do 2 pkgs jello to 2 cups water total. One hot to dissolve the jello and one cold for the Protein powder. Mix both and pour into single serve containers. I add the protein powder to make sure I get enough protein in for the day because I have trouble doing three premiere protein shakes a day. I really get sick of all the sweet. blah I also use Unjury Chicken flavor soup protein mix too... this is so good. I'm going to experiment and had it in unflavored gelatin see how that works. LOL - soup cubes *wink* I do use broth cubes for convenience, but I don't want to much sodium so I also buy the organic premade broth from Walmart. These are good and less sodium. I am allowed cottage cheese on my pre-op diet so that helps too, cause I can sprinkle with seasonings. I also am allowed Oikos triple zero yogurt once a day. Those are so yummy. Coffee flavor is my FaV! For those of you just starting your pre-op. I'm already not feeling as hungry as I used too. I have to remind myself sometimes to make sure I get enough stuff in for the day. Its true once you get past the first four or five days it gets easier. I do miss a crunch now and then. LOL - I did have (bad bad) a few of those quest protein chips. But just got right back on. This diet is to help us shrink our livers and drop a few pounds to help in lessen any complications during surgery. It also helps us detox and ready our body and minds for the changes its about to go through. Everybody's pre-op diet is different. Just depends on your program and doctors requirements and your current health. I'm scheduled July 12th and so excited and nervous. -
Instead of milk, trying mixing your favorite cereal with some greek yogurt. Tastes great, stops it from being a slider food, and adds TONS of protein.

lets be honest, 1 week post op

I'm on day 6...started eating Yoplat (is that spelled right? LOL) a couple days ago and I seem to get through a little more than a half before I feel "satisfied". How did you find the greek yogurt? Was the consistency too thick? LOL
