Iodine allergy, I need help finding a Protein Shake or Powder

oh yeh... I also use a stick blender and I put my powder in skim milk and even add Greek non fat yogurt. My clinic approved and I get a huge amt of protein doing this... someone told me though they couldn't handle thickness at a early stage like I can so again ppl are different

    Getting enough protein?

Do you think the sucralose is making you sick? It made me sick like that...had to get rid of it all and turn to powder Protein with stevia and unflavored protein. Made. Huge difference then I add fage non fat Greek yogurt to Soups and shakes. You might want to ask the doctor for anti nausea meds too but you might want to get checked out to make sure your symptoms aren't from something more serious like a leak or something...all of the pain plus nausea etc concerns me

    Am I going backwards?

I'm struggling with this too...always or frequently hungry and it's not always head hunger plus got cravings...I'm sure I am taking in to much even though I'm eating the right foods.aka no fat cottage cheese, non fat Greek yogurt, tuna in the pouch....I'm two weeks post op.now

    Oatmeal or grits

I didn't eat either early out. I still really don't eat them at 17 months out, although I probably could. I occasionally mix a tablespoon of oatmeal into my yogurt and let it sit in the fridge overnight - but that's about the extent of it.

    Fruits and Veggies?

I am 7 months out and 70 lbs down. After 6 months I can now eat more. Still doing Protein first. But adding veggies and some fruit (apples w/peanut butter and berries w/yogurt). Weight loss has slowed a bit. Did you add fruit and veggies and do you think these items helped or hurt your weight loss efforts?

    Protein Sample Menu

Sashimi (3 oz = 24g protein), Greek yogurt, cheese (all kinds), kefir, baked wild caught Salmon (3 oz = 23g protein), can of sardines, hard boiled egg, Jerky and tofu are my regulars. I don't mind healthy fats in my diet, nothing is low fat.
  8. I am 6 month post op RNY. I never was afraid but I was prepared mentally to live a life of eating differently. I do admit the first few weeks were difficult in getting in all the required Protein shakes and Water. I just did the best I could. I had absolutely no pain or discomfort. I did however feel exhausted the first few months and both my surgeon and my primary told me to be patient. I was and slowly my energy level came back. I can practically eat anything I want but stay away from sugar. meat is difficult to process so I eat more chicken, pork and fish. I love yogurts and fresh fruits. I have absolutely no regrets and find that it is a lot easier then I anticipated so I am very happy. My health has improved tremendously too! Good luck to you. Crack chicken recipe

I think it looks pretty good. chicken breast can be a bit hard to swallow at first, but it seems it would have enough moisture in that recipe. I like thighs instead for that reason. I made a crock pot Mexican chicken thing using salsa, thighs and cream cheese that was pretty good in the mushy phase. Also, if you don't like mayo, Greek Yogurt is a good substitute for mayo in many things. Extra Protein, too.

@@kjones1 I'm in my 5th month post-op and my stomach has been rejecting meat for weeks now, and I've never really been able to tolerate eggs. I'm on mostly dairy and Beans for Protein, plus using unflavored Protein powder in my morning coffee and sometimes other things if I need it during the day. I don't really limit fat, I'm eating an Atkins-ish diet, and I do lots of cheese, refried beans, lentils, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Like last night, I grilled a piece of flank steak for my husband and son, to make soft tacos, grilled onions and poblanos to go along with it and made some brown rice. I had leftover lentils in the fridge, so I spiced some of them with ancho chili powder and cumin, which is what I rubbed on the meat for the guys. I mashed them a little, then put them in a high-Fiber tortilla with the onions and peppers, some sour cream and some salsa. It was delicious and I didn't miss the meat at all. I skipped the rice entirely.

    3 day post op

I know the word "Ice Cream" scares people but there are healthy options that one can have that is similar to ice cream at Trader Joe's made from Greek yogurt and artificial sweetener. I wasn't planning on going full on crazy and binge out on ice cream. I just wanted something different that won't be harsh on my stomach. I am not trying to sabotage myself thus why I went to a forum before even buying the ice cream. My doctor did say sugar free items are okay, just wanted to see if anyone else had tried it and felt better afterwards. I'm just going through the stages... I'm on my third day of full liquids and it's not easy finding things to keep sipping on. I'm sure you guys remember that time. Just looking for suggestions. Update on OCt sleevers.....

Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too. Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g) Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day. I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen. I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much. Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me. Sent from my SGH-T999 using the BariatricPal App
  14. I went back to work 5 days post op. I still struggle to get Water in, mostly because i get distracted and forget. I usually have a fairlife "shake" for Breakfast, oikos yogurt or cheese/meat or leftovers for lunch, cheese/protein shake for snack. HW 385 SW 359 CW 338 Sleeved 10/5/16

    Non eating days

Yes yesterday. Day 11 I could only get down about 375 calories. But I made up for it today. It seems like I go up and down. I am on soft mash able foods and ate some refried Beans, banana baby food, yogurt, and half a can of Bean and bacon Soup. Not to mention my Protein shake. So ate like a queen today. I was pretty worried yesterday when i just couldnt handle any food but my body made up for it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fear of Failure

My .02 on this topic, it's mostly mental. Seeing a therapist will help you a great deal, I'd think. It's helpful to learn what triggers you and to get some help with coping mechanisms and some ways to re-train yourself to new, better habits. But keep in mind that things will be markedly different after surgery...at first, quite honestly, you're going to feel crappy and not want to eat at all. Then you'll gradually start introducing foods back into your diet and I found it easy to just not allow the bad foods back in. When you're going to have a 'meal' and it's 3T of food, it's a LOT easier to pick something that will fuel your body and healing vs being able to cram in cups of food so that you can eat a ton of carbs and still get Protein in. I'm not a saint, and I'm only in my 5th month post-op, but it's been easier than I anticipated to NOT eat the crap that contributed to my fat state. Most of those foods aren't even remotely appealing and if I DO eat a bit of them, I usually have a negative physical reaction that inhibits me the next time I think about it. I make sure I've always got good choices in the house....cheese, lean deli meats, yogurt, cottage cheese, canned Beans, tuna, etc. I'm going through a phase right now where meats are NOT sitting well, so I'm on a heavy dairy/legume diet for the time being, and have gone back to using Protein powder twice a day. It's not a linear movement forward at all times, it's a back-and-forth/up-and-down as you retrain your stomach and your head. I say this often, but half of the battle is being ready for the battle and thinking ahead to what you'll need to conquer in order to come out on top. You're doing that now and that alone makes you more ready for your new post-op life than many people. Good luck!
  19. I'm 11 days post op. I had vsg in Mexico, my doctor didn't really give me a good plan, but my coordinator just told me 2 weeks of liquids, 2 weeks purée she said I should be able to eat almost everything except bread, alcohol, at thanksgiving, I've had yogurt egg drop Soup, chiken pea soup, jellos. What has I believed really helped my stomach is kiefer (probiotic) no flavor with a little honey and I feel like it's just helps I have had 2 very small bowel movement. 20. @@amiskinnyyet, Congratulations on your recent surgery! Good question. I am glad you are healing well and feeling good (although tired). It is also good that you are focused on listening to your body, which is a skill that takes a long time to develop but will serve you well! I would caution you that most weight loss surgery patients are still not yet fully in tune with their bodies at this point post-op. It takes a lot of practice, so I would suggest partly listening to your body, and mostly listening to your meal plan. I would suggest following the meal plan and instructions that your surgeon gave you for your post-op diet. Eating eggs and turkey sausage at this point sounds a little premature for most pre-op diets, but your surgeon or nutritionist is really the one to ask. If your body is feeling fatigued from lack of nutrients and eggs and turkey sausage are not yet allowed, you might consider upping your intake of Protein shakes to get the calories and protein you would otherwise get from adding in eggs and sausage. When you do get to real pureed foods after having only liquids, your surgeon or nutritionist might suggest starting with something like yogurt, which is easier than eggs and sausage. Good luck!

Hate sugar free stuff. What do I do?

@sze1109, You have gotten some good advice about going for savory Protein sources instead of sweet ones. You can add unflavored protein powder to broth or buy protein Soups while you are on your liquid diet. For fluids to stay hydrated, you can have Water plain or with lemon or lime juice or sprigs of mint, and decaf tea. Once you get to pureed foods, the sky is the limit! You can add unflavored protein powder to pureed canned green Beans and carrots, pureed watery mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, and pureed cream of wheat or possibly oatmeal (ask your surgeon). You can also get protein from yogurt, pureed egg whites, pureed lean ground turkey or soy crumbles, and pureed tuna while still on the pureed foods diet. Another thought about sugar-free sweet options is to check the label to see which kinds of sweeteners are in the food or beverage. There are so many different kinds now, and it is possible that some, but not all, give you stomach troubles. If you want, you could try to sort out whether you might be able to handle sugar alcohols (not likely), aspartame, sucralose, monk fruit, stevia, or acesulfame potassium. Good luck! You can definitely succeed pre-op and post-op without artificial sweeteners or calorie-free sugar substitutes.

Here it is - my newbie post

@@rolosmom7, I wouldn't worry too much about calories. Focus on Protein first, meet your protein goal daily, and meet your fluids goal daily. My NUT has assured me that those two factors play a much bigger role in fat burning than calorie counting. The full feeling is pretty normal, but I agree with LipstickLady. Don't even eat the bottom half of the bun. Also I found that hamburger and ground meats produce a more full feeling than soft (dark meat) chicken and fish. Try rotisserie chicken dark meat, the thighs are great. Add greek yogurt of a bit of mayo. cheese is another way to get protein in that goes down easy. I get all my protein in starting with a 30g shake in the morning, then the rest of the day I have things such as cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, yogurt, soft chicken, tuna with mayo, fish, soft cooked veggies, and peanut better. Here's a fun and yummy thing I discovered for a high protein snack: 1 or 2 tablespoons natural no sugar added Peanut Butter, next to a tablespoon of sugar free preserves (I love the apricot preserves). Use a small spoon to get a bit of both in each little bite. It takes just like a PBJ sandwich! I also wouldn't worry about a 2 lb gain. Weight can fluctuate quite a bit daily. Keep following the rules and the numbers will start moving again.

    Protein protein protein!

I got tried of Premier Protein really quick... No now I try to drink two cups of Fairlife Fat Free milk with sugar free chorale mixed in... And a scoop of GENEPRO Protein mixed in as well... It's odorless and tasteless. You can also put it in yogurt..I do something similar. I use 5oz fairlife and 5oz fairlife chocolate with 1tbs genepro and 1tbs PB2. Tastes kinda like a Peanut Butter cup. HW 385 SW 359 CW 338 Sleeved 10/5/16

I got past the hungry stage, THANK GOD

Man I'm glad to read this, I just hit puree stage and I've been hungry all of the time too. Even at this stage, it's fortunately improving but not satisfactory. I eat a scrambled egg in the morning and I'm stuffed before finishing it but in one hour, I. Easy for food. If I eat Soup, I can also eat a yogurt.. or if I eat s tuns pouch. I need something else too like cottage cheese and then I freak out thinking omg, I'm eating to much food. The scale isn't moving bc I'm eating to much. When I walk around for exercise. Omg I'm hungry... I think it's the lack of carbs I'm not used to?? And yet not enough Protein bc not at the stage yet So far, I can eat anything too ...not helping! St night i feel hungry and maybe it's emotionally driven buy i feel my stomach... I often have a yogurt Popsicles are my lifesaver!! Anyways. I was thinking of posting about this but worried about being judged so I feel relieved to have discovered this thread
