    Felling frustrated.

I am experiencing the same thing. Surgery on 10/1 and I have lost 14 lbs since then but been stalled the last 7 days. I am following all the guidelines too but weight not budging. I went up my 2 week post op apt yesterday and they told me to get off the scale for this first 2 months because I should not be focused on weight loss at this stage yet. This first few months should be about progressing through the diet phases to get back to solids, getting familiar with what foods you can tolerate now post opp, and healing. I don’t like this answer because I currently weigh everyday because it makes me keep myself accountable. Trying to make this mental shift for my own sanity though because I want this to be successful. I do still feel like I am losing inches even though the scale I s not budging. Are you measuring?

    Felling frustrated.

I’m feeling the exact same way. Had surgery on 9/10. First 2 weeks weight fell off. Now it’s not budging. I keep thinking I’m doing something wrong but I’m doing everything I’m told.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Here is one example of the saggy neck and wrinkles where I never had them before. I’ll be honest though and say that even if I knew how much older in the face this would make me look, I’d still do it 100/100 times. So I had to endure breast cancer and I got new boobs out of it 10 years ago. This time I’ll endure this and get a facelift out of it. I’ve actually started working on a budget and pricing different procedures. I’m more than likely going towards an S-lift, but won’t know for sure until I have a consult. Which will still be after the first of the year. I want to make absolutely for sure that I’m well and good out of my honeymoon period and that weight loss is stopped before making any decisions. Even if I lost just another 10-15 pounds it could make a huge difference. Besides, it will give me more time to save up. Gaby, I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with your endoscopy. Please keep us posted. Emzbe, I was fine until about a month ago, and now I’m definitely needing laxative help. Not sure why my bowels have waited til now to go into lockdown mode, but it’s a daily struggle. I need to get more aggressive in treating it, because I’ve noticed that when things are super backed up I can barely eat more than 1/2 cup food w/o feeling ill, but then I’m hungry again 3-4 hours later and it’s frustrating bc I feel as if it’s throwing me off of my TRE regimen.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Yep--I had forgotten to mention the turkey neck, as well as the jowls and sagging face, all of which make me look older. When I was fat, everyone thought I was 10 to 15 years younger than I am. Now, the friends who will tell me the truth say that I look my age since losing weight.
  5. So I'm pretty excited. My insurance requires a few things. 6 months worth of appointments. Tomorrow is appointment 2 of 6. I think they said they would do the EKG tomorrow, and review blood work. Other than that, I have to have a sleep study done, meet with a psych, and I think a separate nutritionist. So looking for a surgery date of somewhere in march or april. On a side note, I have a neck injury, and am meeting with a specialist on 1/10/20 to hopefully get surgery to fix my neck... though the last specialist said surgery for it is not an option. I'm not sure how this will derail my sleeve surgery. I'm speculating that I would have to recover from my neck surgery first.

    Energy fluctuations?

OMG. I thought I had glandular fever or some other illness that had induced this crazy exhaustion. For years I would only manage 5/6 hrs of sleep a night but for the last couple of weeks I’ve been sleeping 8/9/10 hrs a night. Any less & I felt like a zombie. Then the other day I dragged myself downstairs to my treadmill & honest to God I wanted to put my head down on the control panel & just go to sleep. Could barely put one foot in front of the other. Forced myself to continue for 12 mins but no more. Thought I was going to fall off the treadmill. So I dragged myself back upstairs. I have been keeping my carb intake low because I struggle just to get my protein in - last bloods showed my protein was low but everything else was good. Thanks for the reassurance that I’m not got some virus & will try to up my carb intake with a snack before exercising. Now if only there was a way to stop the hair loss 😜.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Everyone is doing great. My 1 year will be 10/26/2019. My weight loss has slowed down but that is because of me and stress. My doctor's goal is 140, my goal is 130. Best to all of you!

    October 2018 Sleevers

Hey Yvonne and Georgetown! Georgetown you were sleeved on my bday! I was sleeved 10/17 and I too am frustrated with the slow progress. I was hoping to be 190 at this point. I started out at 300, sleeved at 278 and currently 229, I went from a size18 to a size 12 also. So it appears we have very similar results, perhaps, I have put too much high expectation on where I should be... after hearing similar results, I am hopeful again. I saw a really good post on FB about realistic results after WLS - at 12 months 70+ lbs, 18 months was 90+ lbs. If I find it I will post it. Had my 1-year follow-up with my Surgeon, he was happy with my results and told me to stop the snacks in between meals, and I should see some accelerated results. Keep going, you are doing well! Slow is better (I repeat this to myself often) and less likely to come back on. You got this!

    Help Avoid Night Time Eating

Your surgery date is 3/6/19, Right? Check with your dietitian on calorie zone at 7 months out. I may be wrong but 600 seems low. (I was around 900/1000 at six months) Trust your professionals. A few things to try Ask your dietican for calorie and carb ratios. It may help with hunger. a small protein snack before bed. (I do cottage cheese or a dannon lite n fit yogurt) I keep my protein night snack in my calories/macros for the day. I keep a veggie tray on hand. If I have maxed out my calories and I’m still hungry, I eat as much raw veggies I want until full. If I try to bargain with myself for other options its head hunger. Update us. I’m curious to know where your calories should be, I hope you find what works for you.

    The Maintenance Thread

You'll get there. It took me a couple months (and a further 10+ lbs loss after deciding to stop losing weight) of trial and error to find my maintenance calories AND be comfortable eating higher calorie foods, which I think is the key to stop losing. Volume will always be an issue for us, so what you can manage to get in your stomach needs to pack a bigger caloric punch. Congrats on all your hard work...now enjoy the ride!

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

I had terrible GERD before I had a lap band 10 years ago and it was a miracle cure. The band kept the acid from splashing up my esophagus. Now the band has to come out due to blockage so there's no doubt that my revision will be to a bypass. Many people who NEVER had GERD develop it after a sleeve, and the bypass will eliminate it so that's the route I'm going.
  16. Sorrynametaken, I could have written your post. My story is exactly the same. Mine is also 10 years old, and even with no fill in it I'm struggling to get food down. The barium swallow doesn't show any problems with dilation or slippage, but I still slime and vomit every other meal. I thought it was going to last a lifetime but it's so stressful being hungry but dreading that next meal, and my surgeon thinks the stoma will eventually totally close off so even water can't pass, so I'm having it removed with a revision to a RNY. I know I'll never eat an average size meal again but I'm OK with that as long as I can do so without dread!
  17. Hey all! How is everyone doing?? I had my 6 month visit with the dr last week and was down 66.5 pounds. It will be 7 months since surgery on 10/18, so hopefully by then I will be at 70 lbs lost. Last I weighed I was 183.5 down from 250. I am incredibly happy with this result, but know deep in my heart, this is the ONLY way I would have ever lost any weight. If I reach 70 lbs gone in 7 months, that is an average of 10/month which is kind of the "average" people shoot for just with diet and exercise. It is crazy to know it had to be this drastic to make progress, so I feel happy with my decision. I met with a dietician while struggling to try to lose weight before my wedding - my doctor had me on Victoza at that point (3.0ml/day - almost double what they take for diabetes) combined with a low carb shake program to try to help before my wedding, which barely helped at all. This dietician looked at me and said, "there is so much we do not understand about weight and weight loss". That was very positive for me to hear from a dietician - that she acknowledged that there is so much more to it than calories in/calories out. Glad to hear so many of you are still doing well! Hope we can keep this thread active and check up on eachother!
  18. Almost 1 year post OP 10/22/18 was my date. For the last few months my eating has been fairly out of control and for the last couple weeks very much so.. I'm still down a considerable amount of weight since the beginning of this thing.. 161 lbs currently. I was 165.. but I've gained back 4 lbs over the last month. So this morning didnt start great I ate trigger foods cereal/pizza until way past when I should have stopped and went to the shower fairly disgusted with myself. After the shower I made the decision to throw away the rest of the cereal and pizza which I did.. so now its about an hour past that and I felt I needed to share this to get honest about it with someone.. so ya. That's where I'm at, thanks. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    The Maintenance Thread

I've read through this entire thread, which was incredibly informative. Thank you all! A few observations: - I am floored when I read that some people are maintaining on 2000-ish calories. I am still full after eating a weight-loss meal, and I can't imagine more than doubling my calories. The key seems to be healthy carbs, according to many of you. (Carbs scare me, however!) - When I saw my surgeon just before starting maintenance, she didn't tell me my ideal weight. I would like to gain 5-10 pounds and am relying on the bounce-back to take care of that. - I did not count calories, protein or anything else for the last several months and don't intend to during maintenance, unless I can't find my sweet spot through trial and error. However, I seem to be an outlier in that regard. - I don't really care what my BMI is. Everyone's body is so different that it seems difficult to generalize everyone at a certain height and weight as having a particular BMI. I know how I want to look and feel without obsessing about my BMI. Again, I seem to be an outlier. - I have one question: What about rice during maintenance? I haven't seen anyone talk about it. Is rice a no-no? Again, I'm really happy to have found this thread. The weight loss phase was so regimented, but maintenance seems like sort of a free-for-all!

  25. A co-worker and long time friend (over 30 years) of mine knows because she is getting ready to do the same thing. We both have been talking about it and came to our decisions in different ways. She had actually told me earlier this year that she was thinking about it, and I happen to have a colon and endoscopy this summer as part of my full checkup and the doctor who did my endoscopy is the bariatric surgeon. I did the endo because of my acid reflux and hiatal hernia that I have been dealing with for the past 10 years. His office kept calling me about a consultation and finally I decided to go to hear what he had to say, not totally convinced that this was something that I was going to do -- thus his recommendation for the by-pass; my friend is getting the sleeve. She has only told one family member and I have told 2 other close friends (one a retired RN) and both are supportive, but we roll that way. I haven't decided if I will use my sick leave; I think that I will work thru the holidays and take my vacay in January if that is when my surgery is approved or I may take a combo of sick and vacay because I have excess leave. Other than that, I will tell a few others eventually... or not. Still debating whether I will tell my sis pre-op or not. I figured that now is the time for me while my health is still reasonably well, but I'm having increasing difficulty with knees and feet and I'm sick of the reflux and HBP. I want to retire at goal weight.
