  1. I'm 6 weeks post op & have been having SHARP pains in my left side/area for days! When I laugh & certain movements.. I had the initial prolonged discomfort on my left side, which is normal. That stopped a few weeks ago.. This is new & I just want to know if anyone has had this and what was the reason?!?
  2. Just had my sleeve January 13 and also had hiatal hernia repair...it's almost 4 weeks and honestly didn't start feeling better until 3 days ago; my hernia was repaired with mesh, I don't know, but I think having both surgeries at one time was what made my recovery so much more difficult. It's been trial and error with soft foods; some ok and some NOT. I can only tolerate about 3 teaspoons at a time. Overwhelmed at times, but just taking it day by day!!

    How Fast Things Change

Man, I cant seem to keep up with these as much as I had hoped too. I am now almost 3 weeks post op, feeling great, pain free and losing poundage on a regular basis. I still havent bought a scale, but clothes are fitting better and better everyday. I got lucky, I suppose, I went home the day after surgery and didnt have to take any pain meds after leaving the hospital, quite happy about that actually. So far its been really easy. Water goes down without a problem, food intake is simple, small, but simple. With my surgeon, we are able to move to a more normal diet in week 3, it's been a blessing for sure. Hoping that things progress as as easy as it has from here on out. Down 28 lbs, lots to go!

    TPN feedings

Well I think its time to fincd a nother surgeon. I have been throwing stuff up for weeks adn my surgeon put me in the hospital to start TPN and let me go yesterday. Did not get aot of instructions about it. I am feeling nauseas and absolutely no energy. Not getting any answers or helpful advise. HELPPPPP
  5. honestly i'm 3 weeks out and i've yet to be "normal". i've taken a stool softener once in a while, but with limited results. i'm getting more used to it, unless it becomes uncomfortable, but i know it isn't hurting me.

  7. Well...I haven't yet mustered up the courage to go into a Victoria Secrets, but I did buy myself some cute new lil panties! Wow! What a great feeling! And the other panty victory....before my surgery in November after I dried off from my shower, I would always have to hold onto the bathroom counter as I stuck one leg and then the other leg into the legs of my panties. For the past three days I have been able to put on my panties without holding onto anything! I can't believe how much easier I can MOVE and how much better I can BALANCE. Hope this motivates people who are thinking about this surgery or who have just started. Tiny things like I have described are life changing and liberating!!!
  8. I would be ready as soon as you get it out. I had mine out in May and conceived less than a week later. Freaky fast!

DAY ONE PRE OP AND ALREADY STRUGGLING!

No, kidding, it does suck. You get used to it. After the third day it gets easier having no food, really. It isn't the end of food, though. You can have food again, in tiny amounts and you need to learn to enjoy the flavor and savor what you have. I was sleeved on 12/27 and I can have three tablespoons of creamy Soup and it is the best ever. Tiny spoons I savor every little spoonful. You can do it, but you have to have a strong desire to succeed. I personally know, I won't do anything to damage my sleeve, so I can wait for real food to come back into my life. Good luck to you.

DAY ONE PRE OP AND ALREADY STRUGGLING!

The preop diet sucked a big egg for me. It didn't get any easier for me. I was miserable. I was hungry. I was cranky. My poor husband thoughtlessly prepared bacon one might and the smell almost sent me into a homicidal rage. I wanted to sneak out of the house and go to Olive Garden. I was a lunatic. Then on the morning of surgery, I was still starving and still snippy. I got out of surgery and the liquid diet didn't bother me at all!!! I wasn't hungry, not even head hunger was an issue. Before surgery diet blows. After surgery, it wasn't a problem. Another reason it wasn't a problem is that I cheated about a week and a half out of surgery and ended up so sick and in pain that I finally said enough and stayed on track. Keep your head up and hang in there!!!! Good luck!!!!
  11. I'm going to be rescheduled for surgery due to abnormal blood test results. It may be moved 2 weeks or more. Something about my kidney function. I'm so disappointed & discouraged. Has anyone had this happen to them?
  12. What about catering it? At five weeks post-op, I still have no interest in food, so being around it doesn't actually bother me. But I still don't like eating in restaurants yet...however, if your family wanted to eat out, you could go along and just get some butternut squash soup or something like that. I'm probably going to cook Thanksgiving dinner this year, but it will be simpler. But I should be able to eat most of the food, in teeny tiny portions, by then. By Christmas, you will at least be able to eat some of the food, so don't worry about that one...
  13. Hello. My first doctor visit and education class is next week. I expect my gastric bypass surgery to be six months from now. I did a good amount of research before making my decision, and I am eager to start my journey. I know I will have questions answered next week, but am eager for answers now. My biggest fear is my BMI is close to being too low, however, I have many weight related health issue (D2, HBP, and High cholesterol). I am hoping to be able to diet a bit before surgery. Anyone in a similar situation?
  14. All right, So I'm 5 weeks out from surgery...I feel GREAT, I'm down 30 pounds, my eating has been good and healthy...but I'm struggling with my morning schedule to have enough time to get some food in me...What do you guys grab "on the go" to eat?

    Itchy Feet

Well its fudge cake day today, so far I am surviving it, but there are only so many cups of coffee I can drink, especially since everyone else is saying "Well a little bit won't hurt". But everyone here know's just how much alittle bit can and will hurt:frown: The other thing is I normally go to the gym in the mornings and hadn't really noticed how I get into a routine and now that I am not there it is really bugging me. Took me longer to get ready today as well because I couldn't just chuck on the gym gear actually had to make a bit of an effort. Maybe I should take some of the cake to the gym and hang it in front of me like they do in the cartoons. I feel now after nine weeks I;m really beginning to get a grip on the food I can and can't eat and if in doubt vow to try it out in the privacy of my own home not in the middle of a packed out restuarant, as this can lead to a hasty exit to the ladies room. I'm wondering about alcohol these day's and do you end up drunk quicker? Because generally if I drink I eat lots and it's a good night out because it used to happen so rarely. But now because now there is no food too soak it up I think I will end up on my ear a lot quicker than ususal, so this is something I am going to have to watch out for . Cheers Chooky
  16. Hi Guys, I'm 19 days Post -OP had some complications with dehydration and was admitted after the second week. Spent another week in the hospital getting fluids. I had a follow up appointment yesterday and was put on puréed foods. OMG!! My fist stop was Taco Bell for some refried beans. As soon as I ate it I threw up none stop. I tired different puréed foods but I can't keep anything down. So I'm back on liquids the only thing that seems to agree with me right now. I was really looking forward to starting puréed foods but it's been a nightmare all I do it vomit until I'm throwing up bile. My doctor did explain I have a tight sleeve considering my stomach was already pretty small. Has anyone struggled with this will I ever be able to eat solids , soaps or anything anymore? I'm scared.

    help

I had a huge bald spot the size of a silver dollar on the left side of my head. Balder than a baby's azz! It started at maybe 4-5 months after my surgery. I started taking Biotin along with a chewable multi-vitamin, and it has grown back plus some, and my nails look great! It takes maybe 4-6 weeks to kick in, but the Biotin works wonders. Good luck!
  18. Sorry to hear about your ut, I'm glad you went to see a doctor. If you keep a daily fluid journal this could help with your your fluid intake or use containers that measure your fluid ounces this may help as well. I walk around the house with a 20 oz drinking bottle I fill it three times a day and I take it with me everywhere. I hope this helps and you feel better soon!

    MAY 2009 Banders!

Hi. I'm glad I am not alone. I lost 11 pounds 2 weeks post op and have not lost anymore. I've had 2 fills. I have 3.5ccs in my band. Honestly, I'm ok with the slow loss. I am a teacher and I do not want most people to know I had WLS. If I go back to work with obvious weight loss, everyone will suspect that I had surgery. I have a long term goal set. I would like at least 20lbs lost by Thanksgiving. That is a reachable goal. Once I return to work it will be easier to stick to my eating plan. As of now I can eat anything. Nothing gets stuck.

    unfill

YIKES!! I had to have an complete unfill today I have been banded for almost 2yrs in June and I have lost almost 120lbs. But over the last week I had a very bad cold and lots of mucus. My band got really tight and I did a lot of throwing up and could not get anything down. So now I have to wait a few weeks to get a fill put back in. I am so scared!! I don't want to gain a lot of weight back. Other than that I LOVE my BAND
  21. Hi. I had my surgery in Charlotte on Nov. 11. I believe Dr. Voellinger is part of the same group as my surgeon. It's called Carolina's Weight Loss Surgery. Dr. Roc Bauman did my bypass at CMC Northeast. Where does your doctor do his surgery? If I'm correct he either does his at CMC University or downtown at Mercy Hospital. The pre-op experience was very complete and and staff was wonderful. I've heard that all the surgeons in this group are excellent. My surgery went well, with no complications. I've saw Dr. Bauman at 1 week and 4 weeks post op. I saw the nutritionist at 2 weeks out. I will meet with the nutritionist once a month for a full year. I'll see Dr. Bauman at 3,6,9 and 12 months. As far as my success, so far so good....... I've lost 34lbs so far. I feel really good with the exception of some constipation. I'm now adding new foods everyday or so, and am tolerating them well. I'd love to hear from you. Good luck.
  22. Carbs are something you have to go without to get over. Each day you will feel that you need them less and less. Good carbs in limitations can be a good curve. Stalls are part of the game though. I couldn't count all my stalls. Some only a week long, some several weeks long. I just came off a 2 week stall and lost almost 5lbs over night. I am now 11 lbs from losing 100 lbs in under 6 months. Keep at it. Even when you don't see the scale move keep track of body measurements and appearance. I guarantee you will notice beneficial changes!
  23. Anyone know the "name" of the thick saline solution that fill Dr.'s use, to fill the lapbands with? I found it in a discussion thread last week and can't find it again. I want to ask for it this Friday, which seems to be an answer to fills that keep disappearing. I just can't remember the name of it. Sincere thanks for replying.

    Protein

I'm a week out today. I have been getting my water in just fine but the protein shakes feel like a brick sitting in my stomach. I'm getting at least one in per day anyway. I mix unflavored protein powder with my soups and broths to make up for the rest. I still use a 1 oz medicine cup to drink my water. I don't feel as overwhelmed by a huge bottle that way. I know it's hard but you have to find ways to get your liquids and protein in.

    unfill

You just have to stay focussed, logically if you dont eat more than you were eating, you wont gain weight. We've ALL stuck to diets for a few weeks. I've been unfilled for five months, and I felt your fear, it kept me awake at nights knowing I'd have to unfill (for a surgery). But you know, I found after five years banded, I had changed my habits. The weight hasnt piled back on and I fill in the extra stomach space with loads of salad and fruit and vegies, I actually am eating much better. I eat larger volume but similar calories since with a tight band you do tend to eat mainly calorie dense foods high Protein and fat and not large quantities of fibrous low fat foods that are full of Water - the fruit, vegies etc. And whatever you do, keep exercising! I've played around in the past few months with starting Body Pump, but for my body, it just hasnt been a success - my weight and body remains under control best with an hour's run a day, I like cardio and strength training doesnt do a lot for me, although that goes against all common wisdom of today. I do pushups and squats and I'm strong, but if I reduce cardio for strength trianing, I just gain weight and get bigger (can feel it in my clothes). I'd say that in a situation like yours where keeping fat off is your main goal, focus on the cardio and do LOTS of it.
