Almost 2 years out and gaining

I'm 2 years out, I screwed up and gained almost 40lbs back so I had the overstitch revision procedure a few days ago to get myself back on track! So far, so good!!!
  2. I'm 2 years out, but just had a revision surgery so I'm back on the post op diet and I have been having non-stop super vivid dreams about eating, it's crazy. It's kind of funny because I guess my mind is just trying to cope with not being able to eat in it's own weird way! We all get it, the battle will subside, I promise! [emoji173]
  3. The issues just keep on going. I am now up to 310. Just six pounds from my surgery weight. I go next week for another endoscopy because of recurrent pain, reflux, vomiting. One day I have no restriction at all. The next day I can't keep Water down. My gi doctor said the problems would never go away as long as I have a band. I have been totally unfilled since my last endoscopy showed a 3cm slip. I am miserable. I can not do anything without getting out of breath. I am back on blood pressure medicine, my back and knees hurt, I have developed thrombophlebitis in my left thigh and it's all affecting me emotionally. My wife and parents are still dead set against me having the revision. My dad's word of advice is "just push away from the table" and you will loose the weight. They are all for me having the band removed just not revising to the sleeve. I guess the one positive going for me is I have a five week old daughter. My wife is afraid if I have the revision I won't live to see her grow up when the exact opposite is more of the truth. I am trying to eat healthy; grilled meats, vegetables and small salads but I'm still gaining weight. I don't know what to do or how to get my family to change their minds. A lot of their negativity stems from my fist wife died of complications indirectly related to gastric bypass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Just wanted to say I should've trusted my surgeon first time around! I had my band done 2014. At first I was very successful. I was working out, eating really well, letting this tool assist me. Then my back went bad...horribly bad. Three blown discs put me on the ground...litterally. (I'd blown two discs previously but had learned to adapt). Now with five blown there was no way for me to recover the level of exercise needed for my band to be all it needed to be. My tool could not save me from myself at that point. Not working, extreme pain, heartache and frustration. I started reaching for carbs, soda, and sugar. Even 3-4 ounces of these 2-3 times a day will put any weight loss far behind you. I even went back to phentermine for three months. Nothing was going to work. I was not going to have the health, life changing results I needed. Fortunately my gall bladder decided it was time to go and my band left my body at the same time. Now the real mind bending changes started! Health insurance cares about criteria not about the toll taken on your body. Regaining weight to meet criteria is not only incredibly hard on your body. It's even harder on your mental health. Having switched up my thinking, my eating, my mental image of myself...gaining weight back nearly broke me. I had my revision surgery August 2016. I started with my health as my greatest concern. My blood pressure had gone back up. My cholesterol was dangerously high again. My heart, well my heart had some of its own issues prior to the sleeve surgery. Within the six weeks I took off from work I was able to drop about 25 lbs. My blood pressure was back to 110/70 without medication. In the next two months my cholesterol was back in normal range so I dropped the medication. My heart issues had completly resolved as well. I'm finally continuing to lose fat while building muscle. I'm still losing weight though it has slowed down. I'm 50 lbs down at 6 1/2 months and I could not be happier. Life below 200 is healthier than I thought was possible at age 53. Revision was truly the best option for me...unless of course I would've trusted my surgeon in the first place.

Do you mind if I ask why you are doing a revision? I'm 3 months away from surgery and am trying to choose between the sleeve and rny.

What to do what to do

Don't consider a revision to the sleeve. Your right. You can't live a normal lif with 85% of your stomach gone. Try anything but don't do what I did.

    Revision... Aetna

Hi@Ndonato! Are they making you meet the requirements as if this is your first surgery? Because the Insurance coordinator at my surgeons office tried to tell me I had to start all over and she was very wrong!!! Aetna revision surgery requirements are different then the requirements to get the first bariatric surgery. If have GERD and a "deformed fundus" and a hernia. But in order to get a revision with Aetna, your first surgery had to have be "medically necessary". I got my sleeve done in Mexico in 2014 because back then, I went through the requirements process and was denied by Cigna Medical. So now my fight with my current surgeons office is "medically necessary" to WHO?!...the insurance company or the doctor?!?
  8. Anyone been through a revision with Aetna? I currently have the band, I initially went from 239 to 165 back up to 239 +/- in the past 5 years. I just started looking into revision surgery and would love to hear your experiences. Thanks in advance

Excess skin removal = altered tattoos?

Hi there and congratulations on your WLS success. Yes, any tattoos in the "weight loss zone" will be impacted. Could you have your tattoo artist revise or cover up once you're at goal and had the plastic surgery?

    Looking for a Twin (03/07)

Hey girl! I will be getting a revision from sleeve to bypass on 4/24. I have been searching for info, but not much out there. Do you know what to expect as far as this starting weight loss back up, and if it will help with restriction again? Missy
  11. I am going to get a revision from the sleeve to the bypass due to GERD, but also needing to lose 60ish more pounds, so I am hoping it does the trick. I have always felt that I was able to eat more than most, so I am also hoping to get the restriction.
  12. 60 Sandy: if you have heartburn or gerd Im sure your surgeon will say bypass for you. The acid reflux can get worse with the sleeve and many end up getting a revision to the bypass because of it.

    angry and betrayed

Wow what a mess, hang in there but something to consider is if it's stressful now how are you coping, if the answer is food, imagine if that were not available? I'm still struggling with that 4 months out Also I'll second Amy, I also had a full hysterectomy and like you was exhausted and out of work a lot longer than I thought. But I had a band revision to duodenal switch sleeve and gallbladder surgery on a Wednesday and went back to work on Monday(not super energetic but I could sit at my desk) I wish you luck it's a challenging journey but I'm down 60lbs so it sure helps Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve vs bypass

Usually the reason sleeve patients get revisions to bypass is because they end up having very bad acid reflux.... daily.
  15. You've had great success! Kudos! I had a lap band revision 7 years after my first band. Totally wish I'd gone with a bypass at the time because I was maintaining an 80 pound loss. But, I went with a new band and gained back about 50 pounds. I gave up for a long while and hesitantly went for a consultation last year. I am now 10 weeks out from sleeve sugery and am totally loving it. This is such a different experience- I cannot recommend a sleeve enough if you decide to go with a surgery. Best of luck to you! It seems like the skills have become habit for you now. Don't underestimate yourself!
  16. I am stuck. I would say not the good kindness stuck but there really is none. I'm two months away from being 6 years post op, time sure does fly. Anyway, I managed to work my way out of 140 lbs by 2 years time. I'm at the point now where I've put back on 80 lbs. I plateued and lost motivation. I've since filled my band completely, I've worked out regularly and I've eaten well. Obviously not consistently. I've been considering a revision of some sort but my thoughts are what happens if I end up in the place I'm in now again. I'm only 23, there's only so much stomach I can get rid of or portion out. I wanted to know if anyone had completely emptied their band and slowly filled it again as to simulate the beginning of the process all over again?
  17. If you research band to sleeve revision, it seems to be common to not have as much restriction and have slower weight loss. Why that happens, I have no idea, but it seems to be a common thing I've seen. I've seen a lot of successful band to sleeves, and some that struggle because of that. Have you spoken to your surgeon about this? Maybe have him check the sleeve just to see how it looks and if it is in fact too big?

    Surgery Monday 3/6

I'm on the 6th too. Revising from the band. I had multiple last meals [emoji20]. I sadly gained weight from my last visit. But I'm on day 4 of my 7 day liquid diet. I've been wanting to revise for two years. I've unfortunately gained back all my weight plus a little due to band failure. I hope things go very well for all. Now that it's 4 days away I'm starting to get a little nervous. I'm hoping I have an easy recovery. Honestly I'm not worried to much about the pain, although last time day 1 sucked, but I was off pain meds by day 3. I'm worried about having trouble getting all me fluids in. I currently drink a lot of wyler's light (similar to crystal light).
  19. I started at 540 pounds and I am now at 315 pounds. I am not at goal (which is 199) but I asked my bariatric surgeon about when people got surgery because my stomach hang really bothers me already. They said I could make a consultation with a plastic surgeon and see when their recommendations were. I met with the plastic surgeon and he said I have 2 options. He said usually he recommends people to wait until goal BUT mine is so large and has been giving me so many issues with rashes and pain that he would remove the flap after my one year anniversary (Which is May 29th) but that Insurance would only pay for the surgery once and I would most likely need a revision since I still have 100 pounds to lose but I would have to pay out of pocket for that. Has anyone else gone through this and had to make this decision? I'm not quite sure what to do. I really want this flap gone because it's causing me so many issues but I don't know what to do. Also, did anyone else get the surgery and lose their belly button?? He said I would no longer have a belly button. I'm kind of excited that I get to tell people I was grown in a lab or that I'm an alien though. haha But how does it look?

  21. I had the VSG in 2014 and lost 110lbs. Unfortunately a mix of sleeve failure (after an egd my gastroenterologist said if he hadn't known I had the surgery he never would have guessed, my stomach was normal sized) and emotional eating cause me to gain back about half. My surgeon offered a revision with option to do resleeve, RNY, or DS. I don't wanna do an RNY because I need frequent EGD'S. I've always wanted the DS so that seems most logical. Vitamins and bowel movements don't worry me. What worries me is the amount of Protein malabsorption. Has anyone had issues with this? I already have a protein losing enteropathy so this is a concern. On one hand adding the DS could exacerbate the issue since it's not certain where the protein loss is located . On the other hand, it could help. My last biopsy showed the small intestine villi were enlarged. Which could be (and most likely is) the reason for the protein loss. If the diseased part is bypassed with the DS then it could potentially give me a better shot at protein absorption. Now people say eat 80-100g of protein a day and no worries. Has this amount ever given u an issue? Thanks in advance!
  22. Hello!! I'm new to this site. In 2008 ,I had the lap band, lost some weight and have gained it back. I am having a revision to the sleeve and was wondering what is the downtime. I work in a clinic , where I walk a lot and have to pick up things up to 30 lbs. I was thinking of two weeks off should be more than enough. Thoughts please, thanks in advance!!
  23. Good afternoon all, Prior to reading further, if you are going to judge me and tell me that it's my fault and that I don't have any self control...spare yourself the time typing and just move on. I had the Gastric Band procedure in August 2013. Did ok but that last year and a half just could not find the "sweet spot" and either it was too restrictive or not restrictive enough. After numerous discussions with my surgeon, we decided that the revision from band to sleeve was the way to go. In June 2016 my Gastric Band was removed, gave my stomach a couple months to recover and in August 2016 I went in for the Gastric Sleeve procedure. I find that there is very little restriction to the amount of food or liquids I can consume. I am absolutely a "stress" eater and many times (most times) I eat whether or not I'm hungry. I was under the impression that since my stomach was going to be 1/8th the original size, that I would have NO CHOICE and be unable to eat when full. That has not happened and I'm very disappointed. I don't know if I unintentionally stretched my stomach or what. Has anyone else have these issues? Many thanks!

    gastric balloon with RNY

I am an RNY patient... 5 yrs out gained 20-25 lbs from total lost (SW 250 - LW 165 - CW 199) - would like to get back to 170-175 - easier on my joints/muscles/body overall. Would the balloon work as a kickstart/temp revision for getting back on track? I'm doing better with food - smaller portions, more protein/protein first, no liquids with meal, better Water intake, fresh fruits/veggies - low carbs but just can't seem to get the weight off. Very low exercise but that's b/c it hurts to exercise with the extra weight. I've never gotten over 199 since re-entering "one-derland" but I don't want to get there either. Anyone have any suggestions, testimonies, advice?
  25. I'm a revision from sleeve to bypass with a surgery date of 03/07 but haven't found anyone in my boat. Plenty of band to bypass but that's it and there's no 2017 options in the monthly groups. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
