    August 2019 Check In

Gastric Sleeve 12th August, Dilation OGD 17th August, Emergency Bypass 20th August. 5 foot 10" HW 115 kg (253 lbs) SW 112 kg (246 lbs) CW 96kg (211 lbs) So far lost 19kg (41.8 lbs) So after 3 procedures and just over 2 weeks in hospital, I am still getting tired easily. But I go for a gentle walk every other day (around 5km a week = 3miles). I am starting to be able to do more around the house and my wounds all look good, especially considering they were re-opened! Bending is still uncomfortable on my tummy but much easier than before the op. What I do love is my clothes hanging off me LOL and I can get up the stairs without huffing and puffing OR having to use the handrail to help pull myself up Our stairs are very steep so it's a pretty big non-scale victory (NSV) for me Bit miffed that I have worked out I am definitely lactose intolerant now and in a big way. But had some great tips from some of these forums veterans. I am still on pureed food, not sure when I get to real food, but I'm not in a rush, pureed is better than liquids so I am happy to wait if I have to. Kudos to those of you that have gone back to work, I wouldn't have been able to yet if I did work! Everyone seems to be doing a great job
  2. Congrats Veronica!! everyone is different. I keep have to reminding myself the band is only a tool- i have to do the work- meaning stick to the diet, and no grazing ( I'm a terrible grazer!) But have found other things to do instead of eat. (Housework only if I'm desperate!). The fills will increase as we lose weight , so am more concerned about amount of miles walked, protein, calories, NSVs, and the scale. BTW, am down 1# this week to 235. ( Any loss is a win!)
  3. Glad to hear from you! That sucks at vomiting. Hope it doesn't happen again. Yassssss @ exercising. Same here, working out feels so much better now lol. I feel so happy knowing this time next year, I will be super healthy. I have a small NSV. My XL Old Navy shirt, its huge..down to a large woohoo. Keep pushing everyone! Looking forward to hearing from you all.

    50+

@CaribeRidge Everything sounds terrific, things will only get better. the NSV's you mentioned will continue and become more frequent. your DH sounds like a keeper! buying a similar bike to ride with you, what a sweetie. Getting thin so you feel like you "deserve" your DH - hmmmm - i think/hope you know better. he loves you now - size doesn't matter, but smaller definitely will help with your medical issues, diabetes gone - and HBP is lower now. true," personnel" things you and DH will enjoy as you "grow" smaller. True - age is just a number. Every year my number goes down and down and down!! LOL I was one month shy of being 58 years OLD when i had the sleeve. now,7+ years, i am now 65 years YOUNG!! keep up the good work kathy congrats

Congratulations!!!! Appreciating the NSV will make the process easier.

    How often do you weigh?

I pledge to only weight once a week for the month of March! Anyone else with me? I will focus on my NSVs, (non-scale victories). All the wonderful little things that happen to my body as I continue to lose weight and get healthier. Things that I won't see on the digital scale readout. Things I might not see at all if I am only looking at the arbitrary number on the scale. I will be a loser, not a number. Who's with me?
  7. That is fantastic news. Just that in itself is adding years to your life! The weight will come off, but you are going to find that the NSV's (non scale victories) are sometimes more important than the stupid number on the scale!
  8. Fabulous NSV's! In addition to the things you mentioned I bought a ridiculous pair of shoes! You know the ones, platform sandal things. They are so much more comfortable than they look!

  10. Yay! I sent my before/after pictures to Nina, and she asked if they could feature them on Dr. Aceves' website. Pretty flattered - definitely an NSV!

    anyone getting sleeved in DECEMBER?

I have 16 more days til my VSG in Mexico with Dr. Elias Ortiz. I am beyond excited! I took some time today to really dig deep and think of some non-scale victories. I think they are so beneficial because for my this journey is more than the number on the scale. Its about how I want to feel and the woman I want to be again. Im 31 yrs old and I feel as though I have lost years of my life yoyo dieting. I think a list of NSV's if not only motivating while losing but especially when maintaining so I can remind myself why i dont wanna go backwards. I had a coworker tell me that I dont need to have the surgery and I was highly offended. She is much smaller than me and has never battled with her weight. She does not know my stryggle and will never understand. Anywho... such is life... I'm sharing mine and I would love to read yours.

    NSV shares

Embarrassing moment and an NSV: Four years ago I had a few cocktails pre surgery with my husband. I slipped and fell back on the toilet and cracked the base. He is replacing the toilet today.........Buh bye evil reminder of my high weight.

Working toward the day someone thinks I look too thin. A non-NSV loss, just awhile back little kid👦 looked at me and said "Are you fat or are you a 👩woman"? I will drop enough pounds that my girl-hood 🙆shows and I get a figure that just curves in and out. I'll settle for a glass coke bottle figure 👸instead of a salami🍤 one!

    NSV shares

How about everyone share their latest NSV (non-scale victory) in one spot. I love reading about all the steps that make up the journey, so please share!

    Scale Obsession

Everyone seems to be obsessed with the scale... I am trying to not base my journey on that number... There are so many NSV's that's occur that I'd miss if I focused solely on the scale. 11 1/2 weeks and down to 178.3. I have 0 complaints... I am very glad I made the decision to have this surgery... Even more glad that I am learning to use it is the tool it was meant to be. I read a lot, say a little. Lots of people compare their journey to that of someone else... Stress stalls weight loss, take the stress off yourself and just take it one day at a time. This surgery was NOT a magic solution. Fact is you can gain the weight back if you don't work the tool effectively...... I'm glad that I've learned this lesson early on. I have a clear road ahead of me. Thank you all for sharing your stories. You're a big encouragement to lil ol me.

  22. Ok so my brothers wedding is in September and I am a bridesmaid ....I purchased a dress in size 20 back in December of last year....I waz sleeved on 2/21/12....so I had to exchange it for a smaller size...the girls at the bridal place wanted me to try on dresses to see where I am at. After hesitation I agreed to...guess what...I fit into a size 16!!! It zipped almost all the way up!!! So I ordered a 12...September is 6 months away!! Hehehe! Then I figured I would head over to lane bryant for a new bra....I was a 42 DDD.....they said I am now a size 36 DD!!!!!! Holy crap! No more shopping in the fat chick stores for bras!!! So I saved my 50 plus dollars I would have spent on bra and undies there and headed to walmart....I hot bra and underwear for $12!!! Today was a great day!!!
  23. I hope that's not the only thing your doing in the shower. LOL CONGRATS! This is definitely an NSV!
  24. Super new to the forum, ummmm what is a NSV? From the context clues is is something good. I am sure there will be an increase in your water bill...wink wink
  25. My bedroom has been commandeered. Getting out of the shower, I realized I forgot to grab a fresh pair of undies. Put on my 'skinny jeans' commando no camel toe! None. Zip. So I just went with it TMI- I know Still, a personal NSV
