  1. Ok First off I am Kaiser.. that makes a difference i hear.. I saw my PCP last week and she did my weight and height stuff and ordered my thryoid blood test. And also did my referral to the surgeon office. Today Bariatrics (spell?) contacted me and set my schedule for the Seminar, which is Nov 4. I guess its a 5 hour meeting.. My question, what happens now??

    BMI - Insurance Question

Thanks for your replies...I'm not getting my hopes up but am definitely hoping for an approval. Best wishes on the surgery Kathy...may I ask...did you have other issues that helped with your approval? Mattie...I'm hoping you are right. I even said to the dr...if my appointment had been later and I'd had coffee and Breakfast this would be a non issue. I had the stomach flu two days before my appointment so that definitely didn't help. I just wonder if I go back and weigh in 5lbs more in a month would they approve it or would they say no based on they know I gained it just to make the limit...grr. I guess I will just have to wait and see. Thanks for your replies and best of luck to you both!

Hunger at 1 Year Post Surgery

85 pounds gone forever Great advice from@Berry78. Hunger changes and weight loss slows down as you get further out from surgery. Seems to be a normal experience. You still have restriction, but, you can also take in more volume. It will take a bit of trial and error to find what fills you up and what macronutrient ratios (protein, fats , carbs) keep you in weight loss mode. Volume for me at three years is a bit over 8oz of food. I just had a salad 4.2 oz peppered turkey, half a piece of bacon, 4oz dole salad and lite dressing. I ate half of it..took a break..then finished the rest. I agree, The fiber and bulk of your vegetables will help you feel more satisfied. Changing foods to have more variety may help quite hunger. Keep healthy salty sweet snack options on hand. Something to try for exercise, rotate what you do. Don't do the same workout over and over. You are right. increase the intensity. Try intervals. Walk a song five mins. push the intensity five mins repeat the process for the whole workout. You will get stronger and your pace will increase over time. Hope you find what works for you.

Hunger at 1 Year Post Surgery

Congratulations on your weight loss and your 1 year surgiversary! I am exactly 1 year today. Great advice from these ladies and I finally clued in a couple of weeks ago and started keeping a ziplock bag in the fridge with cucumber slices, red peppers and baby carrots. I still weigh everything that I put in my mouth, even the fresh veggies. The fresh veggies have helped me a lot over the past few days, because the hunger started coming back for me at around 10 months. I upped my calories 1100-1250 a day and didn't realize until a few days ago that that is why I have been at a stall for over 2 months! Why am I such a slow learner? Duh. Keep up the awesome work, you are almost there!

    Tricare

I have tricare prime. Do they pay for everything? Like the nutrition class and Psych evalve. I have a 45BMI so i am deffinitely qualified for the surgery. Also do they make you do the 6 month diet with physicians thing? I really think that would be pointless..I don't get why they make you do that when they know that YOU KNOW this is your last way of losing weight. It's frustrating because I'm going to college soon and i can only do it during summer, spring, or winter break.

    yoga/pilates?

I'm thinking I should probably start slow walking on the treadmill a few days after I come home? Does that sound about right? I know I can't do any sort of weights/lifting for 6 weeks per what the dr gave me. How about yoga/pilates as long as it's not strenuous on my tummy? When would yall think I could start doing that?
  8. Congrats A.J.!!!!!!!! That is such great news.... your weight loss is inspiring. I'm 10 days post op and have lost 15 lbs... I don't get my first fill until Jan. 18 so for now I'm sticking to eating no more than a half a cup while taking my Vitamins and getting the Fluid in. I don't know about you but I can't wait to countdown to the New Year because this New Year it will finally happen that I'll lose weight.....yay!!!!! I too am trying to figure out how to paste that ticker as well. There is a previous blog about it but I still didn't get it. If someone can give a step by step on how you post it for those of us who aren't that tech savy(lol) would be greatly appreciated. Continued success to you A.J.
  9. Ok I stopped losing weight so my doctor tightened my band 5cc. It was way too tight and I couldn't even keep liquids down so after a week (when i lost 10lb) he took out 3cc. Then I started losing at a good pace but I am still throwing up all the time. I mean all the time! I have been throwing up so long I don't even try to eat diet food because nothing stays down so I try to be happy with whatever food goes down well. Unfortunately some of the things that go down the best are cold and sweet or junk food with lots of fats. I have tried to stay on straight protein like I am supposed to but meat almost never goes down well. Any kind of meat! It doesn't matter what kind it is. It has to have lots of fat to make it soft enough to stay down. ......Anyhow, when I went in for my next checkup I told the doctor that I still was throwing up all the time and he unfilled my band back to where it was when I wasn't losing weight. Surprise, surprise I have stopped losing weight and even increased 5lb's. I'm worried it will keep increasing and that even worse once I'm done losing I will be used to eating things that will just shoot it back up again....Any guidance would be helpful. What is everyone eating daily? and how much? I never know how much I really keep down because I vomit so much.
  10. What exercises are ok for your tummy area? i gain the majority in my tummy area but it seems like the port is in the way and feels like the stitches will rip. i already ripped some stitches just on sex. so any ideas?
  11. I do believe lots of folks get good results with them. I'd say keep working them for at least a few weeks and see. If it does and it starts getting too easy it's time to either bump up the weight or walk faster. Good luck!
  12. Thank you! BTW, you are my sheroe. I hope to lose all my excess weight with such enthusiasm.
  13. I do free weights 10 lbs doing a ton of different ways. I do the machines with 30-50 lbs 15 reps per machine. My arm a have always been heavy. I am loosing so well in my abs and stomach don't want to have these huge arms left.
  14. It is unfortunate but number one, it is mostly genetics as to how your results will turn out. Second would be how much weight you need to lose and third will be the workout factor. Last but not least patience and time will help a lot too, as I've been noticing my batwings on my arms are slowly disappearing! I have really good skin and thankfully my arms came out pretty good. I am not a strength trainer at all. The only form of workout I do on my arms are with my elliptical, a little bit of Pilates type body resistance movements and using a 10 Lb Kettlebell. Yet my arms came out really nice.
  15. Icestorm-Injections are no biggie u get used to them. I did a cocktail with my follistom ,lupron n memopure. So I only injected one needle. It was so much easier to do that way. Dr told me no walking I was supposed to be off my feet since ER. Very light waking as necessary. So I was in bed head n legs elevated. I was banded in 2007. N lost 100 LBS but I didn't know I had issues with infertility till after my third miscarage. Last year. So hang in there if I did it I know u can do it. Just remember it took many years to gain the weight and I know I was extra hard on my self trying to loose the weight. Stay focused n don't beat yourself up. You are doing great. Always think positive n you will achieve ur goal. Keep us posted. Angie

    Just excited!

Hello all! So I weighed in this weekend to see the scale read 219.2lbs. I have not been under 220 in 15 years! This Wednesday it will be 12 weeks out from surgery and I have already lost 63lbs! This does include the 8 pounds that I lost pre-op. I just wanted to share the good news. I am really shocked and excited at how fast I am losing the weight! YAY Sleeve. It was not easy at first but it really has been worth it! Denise
  17. As James Brown sang, "I feel good!"! Sleeved May 8, 2013...326 lbs. Whole host of good stuff to accompany the weight...high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, aching joints, etc.! Heck, if I were a horse, they would've just shot me! LOL As of this morning, 222.2 lbs.! Oh yea...no high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, aching joints, etc.! Now if I were a horse....well, in the essence of keeping this post clean, we'll just say I'd be one heck of a ride! Sorry, I'm just in a great mood! I wasn't going to post anything, for fear of sounding vain, however my wife reminded me that I would peruse this site for hours when I was first considering surgery. I would read the posts, look at the pics and be amazed at the transformations, thinking, "Wow, wish I could do that.". Guess what? If you are doing the same, I'm living proof that you can do it too! It hasn't been easy (As most will tell you, surgery is only a tool...you gotta put in some effort.), but I'll tell you this...it has been life-changing! I now workout 5 days a week...although I take weekends off, I still make it a point to do something active (biking, walking, swimming, yard work, etc.). Which being active is much easier when you're not carrying around all that extra fat! I no longer view carbs as evil, now they're fuel! I eat whatever I can tolerate, but now in moderation. We spent Christmas at Disney World and the rides are so much more fun when you can fit in them comfortably...you can actually breathe! We walked the various Disney parks for 9 days and felt great! No cramps...aching bones...sore feet (Okay, I'm lying a bit, the feet were a little sore, but that was due to all the walking and running from ride to ride! LOL). When we go out to eat, I ask for a booth! I CAN FIT COMFORTABLY IN A BOOTH! Well, in case you couldn't guess by now, this surgery has been everything I hoped it would be, plus some! My wife was sleeved exactly two months after me and is just as giddy! Although my surgery, recovery and journey have been textbook, my wife had a little lengthier recovery. She had two hernias repaired and it took her a bit longer to get going, but once she did...wow! I hit my goal about 3 weeks ago and she hit hers 4-5 weeks ago! There are no guarantees in life and your journey/results may not be the same as mine. However, if you are considering it, I pray you have an even better outcome than me! Oh, and if you do...please aspire to inspire before you expire!
  18. Hello. I'm not really sure of where to begin with this post, but I guess that I'll start by saying that I am dangerously... well, obese, I won't lie to myself any longer about it. I am 5'4" and as of yesterday evening, 302 pounds. I have a BMI of almost 53, which has scared the living daylights out of me, especially since I'm still able to not only walk, but run, stand on my feet for long periods of time, fit into "standard" sized seats, etc. I simply didn't think that I was "that bad". But the inevitable health problems have begun to crop up, and I'm frightened that if I don't do something now about the weight (I'm 38 years old), it'll simply get worse over time. Last year, my health provider suggested the idea of surgery, but I immediately nixed it because I was under the impression that it was a very dangerous procedure (however, it wasn't LapBand I was thinking of, but Roux-en-Y, which I still would rather not do - I think I'd prefer the weight problem over my stomach being stapled). Unfortunately, I no longer have that same health provider due to an insurance switch - so now I have no idea of how to go about it finding out how to get qualified for the procedure. From what I've read on this board and others, I know that I have to meet a certain BMI requirement (at a BMI of 53, I don't think that'll be an issue), and that possibly I may have to show that I have tried other options (which I have, I've been on Weight Watchers since November of last year with little to no results). I have not tried Jenny Craig or Nutri/System or the like - and I'm hoping that I don't have to, because I don't think they're going to work for me at this point. I know that I need to see my primary doctor at this point and explore options. I know that I'll have to be tested for everything under the sun before they'll approve a surgery. I'm honestly scared, as I've had some really rotten experiences with doctors and health care in general - but I know I have to do this. I also have a lot of mental health issues (severe depression, amongst other things) which I think may have been a major contributing factor in causing the weight gain in the first place. Anyhow, I just wanted to introduce myself, I guess. If anyone could point me in the right direction as to how to get started, what I should do, what things I can expect, I'd be grateful. Thanks.
  19. Thanks Lil, Thats interesting reading. I like the bit about weight loss stopping after 2 weeks, thats exactly what happened to me even though I was still not eating close to what I did before. I know its normal but still hard to accept. It will start moving again!! Elsie

    Worst Fears Came To Life

I don't know what Lupron is...why do you have to take it? Maybe with some more info we could all put our heads together and maybe find a way to help you jump start some weight loss. If it is another health issue, it may have to be taken one step at a time. When I originally looked into the band, I was unable to follow through due to a cancer diagnosis. Following treatment, and surgery, I was not interested in doing anything to be honest except live! Then as time went on, the thoughts returned...and here I am. The point being, sometimes other health issues have to take the priority slot...but that doesn't mean it is permanent! If you could let us know what else is going on, maybe we can help a little. I am sorry you feel like a loser, I don't sense that about you at all! I see someone battling more than one issue, and that is never easy!! Hang in there!!! Kat

    Worst Fears Came To Life

I am officially living every lapbanders worst fear. I was banded on May 8th, and have done everything by the book. 64 oz of water a day, exercising daily, eating healthly and the right # of meals. As of the last time I got on the scale I only lost 10lbs. Ive been on the lupron injections every 3 months for another ongoing medical condition, and no matter what i cant stop them. when i lost saw my gyn and surgeon they both said the same thing, the lupron's whats keeping the weight on.......... in the past ive had pbing episodes and now cant eat a lot of my favorite foods. i am sooooo grateful for losing the 10lbs that i lost, but i have 75 more to go and now im never going to see anything less than where i am... i am so discouraged and heartbroken that i went through all of this, including surgical and post-op complications and everything else. I dont know if i want to kick and scream or just crawl into a ball and cry. i always heard ppl say thats their worst fear and theyd rather die than go through what i am and it makes it worse because i was one of those ppl. Sorry about the venting i just had to get this out...... the biggest loser on lapband. tabitha:think

    Worst Fears Came To Life

Hey everyone sorry i haven't had a chance to write sooner, i work 3 jobs so its hard to find time. I have been continuously on the lupron for 4 yrs and with the consultion of 4 MDs I will probably be on it for a very long time. I have severe endometriosis and ovarian cysts to where i have had 2 laparoscopies, and debilitating pain to where i wouldn't be able to get up for days at a time. My periods would last for like 3 wks of non-stop heavy bleeding. for those whose who don't know its usually given w/ norethindrone- one as a HRT and one to lower your levels. I have literally tried every bc pill, patch, and ring out there and so far this is the only tx thats worked to give me a normal life. Going into the sx I checked with my ob/gyn, my pcp, and my surgeon no one realized this would have any affect on me. ive had the same condition for 10 yrs only 8.5 w/ a dx. nobody told me that this would happen, and since it wont go away til i reach menopause, it going to be awhile since im only 21. the only weight lose was original post op and its also because at about 1month-2 months out i had a long period of PBing episodes and wasn't eating alot, and then as it tapered so didn't my weightloss. thanks for all the support i needed someone who would understand, my family just doenst understand and it doesnt help. tabitha

    Running post-surgery

Wow ladies, I'm impressed! I was hoping you might be able to help me out with an exercise/calorie question. I am just at the beginning of my research on lapband and the sleeve and will be going to the dr. in January. Although I have lots of weight to loose, I am dying to get back into shape where I can run and do bootcamp classes again. My question/concern is can you still maintain the amount of energy needed to workout intensely with such small calorie intakes? My previous trainer had me down to 1800 a day but I can't imagine working out like that with less calories. I would love any information you can give me from your personal experiences and knowledge that might help me to think through this particular concern. Thanks so much and keep up all of the great work!

    From Morbidly Obese To Overweight!

My Wii lets you play up to 330 lbs. When I weighed more than that, I put a piece of foam under the balance board and it would weigh me much less. Edited to add: The balance board itself has a 600 lb weight limit so it's stupid that you have to be half that to play.

Feel Like I'm Not Even Banded...

Different people have different effects from the band, it works for some and doesn't for others, it is a tool not a cure all, you have to have the mind set as well that you are determinded to lose and eat the right foods and amounts whether the band is filled or not. I have lost 220 lbs since i was banded almost 4 years ago, I have 10 lbs to go, I have never had a gain but i have been at a standstill or very slow losing process, has it been easy heck no. there are days i feel hungry but just have the mind set not to go grazing and find something to do to keep my mind off it. or drink some water to fill myself up. the band is there to help you and the rest is up to you and how much you want to get to where you want to be. You can do it...I know you can...
