    Help! Feeling jiggly!

To try and minimise loose skin as much as possible you need to make sure your majority of weight loss is fat and not muscle. Two ways to ensure this eat enough calories each day and eat lots of protein.

    3 Days PostOp

You are unlikely to feel full when all you are consuming is liquids. Just wait until it's time for real food . . . you'll be amazed at how soon you feel full and on how little food. I know it's early for you both, but the first month is amazing for weight loss, generally--although I'm not sure I appreciated that, given how miserable I was the first month. I found that things improved greatly when I was able to eat again, but I'm still, six months out, consuming very small portions. Today I had a banana and a yogurt for breakfast and an omelet (ham, onion, and cheese) with some rye toast for lunch. I have not been hungry at all today. I may have a protein shake for dinner--because I need more protein. Hang in there . . . it will work out.

    Weight Loss

They probably gained 3 lbs of Water weight after surgery. You're on an IV and that puts water weight on some or probably even most. Don't freak out about this surgery. Be realistic about your expectations an keep remembering it's a tool not a miracle and don't expect it to be easy.. You got a lot of work ahead, this is just the beginning. My daugher had Dr. Garcia on Jan 23rd. We loved him and his staff in TJ. She's down from an 18 to a size 8-10. She like me struggles with the food addiction. We were just saying, "well you can't eat a whole gallon of ice cream at one time, but you can eat a gallon in a day!" Some days it's just hard.
  4. Hi! My name is Irene and I am 25 years old. I was banded yesterday, January 9th by Dr. Bessler of NY Columbia/Presbyterian. The surgery went fine, or so I am told. My starting weight yesterday was 200.7, and my ultimate goal is to get down to 124. My doctors goals are a little higher, at 145 lbs. Well, we shall see. So far I have not experienced too much pain, but I am hungry! Is this normal? Right after surgery?

    Hypo and worried!

Here is the run down... Had vsg 2 years ago. Lost 180 pounds. Pre-vsg I had a slew of health issues. PCOS, high lipids, high blood pressure, diabetes...you name it, I had it. Now...I am 10 weeks pregnant. I see a high risk ob with consultation from my Bari surgeon. However, I now have to eat every hour or two and for the first time in my life, I am constantly hypo! Docs are ok with 1 hour post meal bs at 70. My body is not. I also had two miscarriages pre-vsg and was constantly hyper with them. I am struggling to keep weight gain at a minimum but loading carbs is zapping me! Any advice?

    How to stop weight lost.

thank you! I'm working with both a nutritionist and a psychologist, today was good day I try to eat more, even had pasta, Greek yogurt, and finally some shaved meet with olive oil and lemon. I was able to keep it down. I need to let myself gain some weight and be ok with it. Because I had surgery to have a healthy life with my kids and husband.

    Morning Weight or Evening Weight?

Definitely morning, naked after bathroom. During weight loss phase, I was on the scale almost daily. Now, at 18 months and maintaining since 2-2013, I typically weight about 1-2x a month. I can get all the feedback I need in terms of clothes and mirror.

    Nsv - First Family Dinner

Thank you so much for this post. I start my pre-op shakes next Monday and surgery is June 4th and this issue is giving me the most anxiety. Thanksgiving and Christmas is held at my parents, because it's easier on them in the winter, I host all spring, summer & fall functions like Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, 4th, Birthdays through Labor Day. I'm not doing Memorial Day this year because I'll be on shakes only, I'm really upset about Father's Day because it will be 2 weeks out from surgery. My surgeon expects 5-6 weeks of liquids AFTER surgery. I think it will be much too hard for me and I do wonder what it will be like for all the other holidays this year like Thanksgiving & Christmas. I am hoping to be at my goal weight for my parent's 50th in December, hopefully that will make up Father's Day. He's my biggest supporter of the surgery, yet he's the most apprehensive about it too.
  11. Today I went to court to finalize my divorce, hallelujah !!!!! And I saw my ex-husband after about four months for the first time and he said. "You lost a lot of weight, are u starving yourself?" Lmao idiot. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    Bladder Leekage

I'm 2.5 months out and my leakage has improved a bit. I definitely don't get up at night much anymore and I haven't had any significant leakage like I used to get. I think as I lose more weight it will continue to improve as well.

Congratulations and welcome to Bandland! Wow on the weight-loss... that must really be helping you get through the food stages! It's wonderful that you have supportive family and friends but sometimes it's nice to have the support and info from those that have been there... done that... that's where LBT comes in! Welcome!

Hi Eunice... Does your doctor and dietician know your daily caloric intake??? Seriously... 300 calories is a crazy low number and eventually your body will go into starvation mode. IMHO... that is not enough of a caloric intake to sustain the average rabbit and will lead to health problems. Sorry... I am really happy for you and your weight-loss but I am very concerned that you have such a low caloric intake.

    Weight loss Timetable/Stall

unless you're the size of one of the participants on "My 600 lb Life", your weight loss is normal. I lost 16 lbs the first month. Many of us (probably most) lost somewhere between 15-25 lbs the first month. Stalls along the way are also very normal, the first one usually occurring within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery (often the 3rd week, which is why we call it "the three week stall"). I have mixed feelings about "My 600 lb Life" because I think it gives a lot of WLS patients unrealistic expectations. Starting BMI is one of the factors that influence your rate of weight loss, and the people on that show tend to start out at MUCH higher BMI's than your average WLS patient. As long as your weight is trending down, relax. I was a "slow loser" from the get-go, and I lost all of my excess weight - over 200 lbs.

How much weight will i lose?

Jason, everyone's body will lose the weight at different time frames. Just know that the weight will come off if you follow the directions of your surgeon by eating healthy. Actually, the one great thing you have going for you is that your a man..... Men lose weight at a faster pace than us women...... So sit back and enjoy the ride and please take your weight loss on a day by day basis..... I know your going to rock that sleeve!

    My Turn

I wish you all the best. I'm reading and reading and probably going to go with this doctor as well. Thanks for sharing your story. I've got a small procedure coming up that won't allow me to have the GS till June but truthfully, I'm at the point where I can't wait to get this done and begin a new life. I've read "Women, food and God" by Geneen Roth and formed a small support group of women who love her work as it will be more important than ever to learn how to deal with my emotions rather than eating over them, so that's my game plan for changing my life (I'm 300 and 5'8 and 58 years old): surgery and working on the rest with the help of a support group, maybe therapy, etc. Someone also told me that Marianne Williamsen's new book, "A Course in Weight Loss" is phenominal so I'm buying that today. Anything that adds the emotional/spritual component to this journey, will, I believe, help me keep the weight off, and at some point, allow me to live free of this insane obsession with food. Of course, one GS surgeon who I recently saw, in order to begin the WLS discussion, asked me how many women in my little support group of 6 women, were 30-40 lbs overweight vs 100+. I told him it's half and half. He said this matched what he'd found as well. That even though ALL of us are emotional eaters, living lives that are RULED by food, it's the hormones in the stomach, among other physical factors that make the difference. No one really knows why some of us who are overeaters, only gain a little, and some a lot, but I"m sure it's any number of metabolic and hormonal differences because those "thinner" members tell me what they eat and it's not much different from the way I eat. I'm lucky as these women FULLY support me doing whatever surgery I need, and I'm very grateful for this. Wow...didn't mean to go on that long. Just wanted to wish you luck! Looking forward to reports on how you are doing, and how Dr. A treated you. Nina

    When is weight loss rapid?

I'm so glad I read this thread. I'm two and a half weeks out and my weight loss has really slowed down and I was beginning to feel a bit disheartened and defeated. But it's very comforting to know that it's normal!! I tried to tell myself that it was, but it's much more reassuring to hear it from people who've been through it before lol. So thank you!

    When is weight loss rapid?

I agree with others stay off the scale. Early out its a good idea to just weigh at your doctors' appointments if the numbers on the scale are going to influence your mood, feelings and emotions. Just focus on getting in all of your fluids and Protein, following your surgeon's instructions, and walking. Please don't fixate on the calories or trying to restrict or manipulate calories. This is not a diet. Your body is healing from surgery. In order to heal and lose weight you need to get in all of your protein and fluids.

    Melbourne People Please Read

Thankyou for taking the time to check this out. I have organised with a leading local business in the health industry an infomation night on exercise and general health issues with a lap band. The Business i have been working with is a state of the art sports clinic that offer physio, massage, pilates, personal training, gym, doctors all at competitive prices and walking groups for free. With my help we have been organising group work outs for lap band people only.In your private work out you would have the gym and a personal trainer at your disposal. You can put together your own group, bring along family and friends or choose to only work out with other lap banded people. Another service they are starting is free walking groups at large shopping centers where you can stay out of the weather and walk in a safe, supervised and friendly environment. Or they can tailor an exercise program for you to take back to your own gym or to use at home. They deal with all shapes and sizes so dont feel like you cant be involved. This clinic has played an instrumental part in my weight loss of 37 kgs in 9 months. If you are interested and would like to know more i can email you a fact sheet. I am very commited to helping other people with the lap band in achieving there goals. Please send a message on here or email me at Spaldo2@hotmail.com If you would like to find out more about this. Cheers Andy

    Five Day Pouch Test

OK so, 3.5 years of this damn band (lol) and I just discovered Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test (thanks shoresexy!!!) I am excited beyond WORDS. I was looking for something like this to help re-tune my pouch. I have a fill scheduled on Friday June 6, and I'm still going to go whether this works or not and I'm back to being tight and full. Anyway, if anyone else wants to do this along with me, I'm starting liquids today. I'm sure I'll be posting by 4pm going "I WANT chicken WINGS" lol
  25. Knowing that I had to do something about my weight which was completely out of control. I made an appointment with Dr. Misra, (Beverly Hills, California) to discuss what options are available for me. I went in with the notion that i was going to do the lapband. After advising Dr. Misra about the ups and downs of my weight issues and I wanted a more "permenent solution" she strongly suggested the Vertical Sleeve with the STARR treatment. Hearing this wonderful option I decided with the advise from my husband and daughter- this was the right choice for me. My surgery, scheduled July 13th 2o11 in Santa Clarita. Amen the surgery went off without any complications and I was realeased the day after. Coming home was a challenge due to the fact we have stairs in our home. Taking the three days to finally master the courage to walk the steps to go upstairs. I was able to rest more comfortably. The first couple days as you know were dealing with the gas issues and the lack of sleep. Only able to take a couple of sips at a time seemed so odd to me. How am I surviving on just a few sips of protein? But, I did, and the third week I went to see Dr. Misra and to my surprise I was down 20pds. I was in a state of shock... and since then, I have continued to lose consistly 20pds per month. I am proud to annouce that as of today I met my 3rd goal of 199. I am so happy that I made this final decesion to do something about my weight issues. Needing to thank all my friends and family for their most incredible support and kind words. And to my friends here on Vertical Sleeve for all their wonderful eamils, suggestions and great advice. Its now onto the 4th goal. I am hoping to reach my final weight goal of 150 by the end of June of this year. I will keep you all posted on the progress. Once again... thank you "ALL" for every sweet emails and kind words you have so graciously given me. Maddy
