  1. you are only a week out and have no restriction..the tighter you get via fills, the less you will have to take the metformin and will be weaned because if you are eating smaller portions ..your blood sugar will respond. I have had one fill and take 3 a day so that I can be flexible in my diet, ie some fruit and grain. My blood sugar runs fine but since I am not restricted as of yet, I will continue to take it and then once sweet spot hits or sugar gets super low, will I wean.
  2. Hi Susan, Apparently there is an 'anti-vomiting' injection you can get from the dr/hospital, & I would strongly recommend getting it if you are vomiting. I was banded in January this year, & a couple of months ago I had a vomiting virus. I was too sick to even remember about the injection. 5 weeks ago I had agonising pain after a visit to a new gym. It turned out to be a band slip - I spent a few days in hospital, & had my band totally unfilled. I don't start getting fill back until mid-January. I'm lucky my band didn't have to be removed or replaced. My surgeon thinks that the vomiting started the slip, & working on new/different weights equipment at the gym completed it. I'm a bit frustrated, as I feel the same (hunger levels) as pre-band. I had perfect restriction & had worked hard this year to shed 50kg (110#), & only had 22# to go to 'ideal' weight. Now I'm sruggling a little, & basically starting the fill thing over again. Wish i'd remembered the vomiting injection advice!
  3. I have been creeping around this site for a couple of weeks and have found a wealth of information! Many thanks for all your posts and for sharing your experiences it has been very helpful to me. I hope to be approved for surgery by my insurance but have already been denied once, I have a new surgeon and a team of doctors who are willing to fight for me so I am hoping I will ge approved and be a success story like many of you. Thanks again
  4. For the past week I've felt bloated and I hadn't had a BM. Tonight at dinner I had the intense urge to buckle over, I had the worst stomach pain for about 10 minutes, so I went to the bathroom. I swear I must've eliminated at least 5lbs of waste. It's like what I had for dinner decided to kick start my bowels and get them moving again. Now I feel soo much better and the bloating is gone. This is the 2nd time that this has happened since surgery. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Solids too soon!!!

I did the same thing! Without even thinking about it, I took a bite of my kids taco and this was only about a week surgery. I panicked, but everything was fine. Those old habits are tough to break.
  6. Hi everyone just wondering if anyone has experienced whats happening to me. I was banded Jan 2007 and have really struggled to get the band to work. I lost 3 1/2 stone in the first year but have never had proper restriction since. I'm either way overfilled or not enough of a fill. Anyway I haven't had a fill in months and the last few days I could feel the band getting tighter (as in what I could eat). Yesterday I could not keep food or liquid down and today its even worse. Everything I put in my from Water to tea is coming back up and out my nose. This has happened me before and the surgeon took some Fluid out and it settled down. Anybody have any ideas why this keeps happening? I have been doing really well last couple of weeks have been really watching what I eat, joined and gym and out walking every day. Could exercise make this happen does anyone know? I really don't want to have to get a defill again but I will I it doesn't settle down. Would love some advice please Thanks a million
  7. I had my c-section 20 years ago and I had my VSG 2 weeks ago. I think the pain during recovery is similar. My c-section wasn't bad. The incision was sore, of course, but not really bad and I bounced back pretty quick. The VSG was similar. The incisions were sore (still are a little, but not bad at all) but I didn't need pain meds after the second day. The fact that I couldn't drink or eat much was different.. that part is hard to get used to but, as far as the pain, it is similar I think.

    Complete Unfill

Well guys I just couldn't do it. I was dehydrated and getting weak I knew it wasn't going to get any better on its own so I called my doc first thing this morning and he wanted me into his office right then. Well I got there he was ready for me told me I was dehydrated and wanted to know why I had waited so long before contacting him. I actually did think it would get better on its own and I really did like the weight loss of 13 pounds in about 3 weeks. But I knew it wasn't heathly so I called. Any how he took it completly out had a horrible time finding my port but finally got it. Now I am on complete liquids for a week until I go see him again. I am so upset I didn't want him to take it all just alittle but he said I had a lot of swellilng and that I needed to just rest everything inside. I know he is right but still doesn't make it easy.

13 Days To Go On The Liquid Diet

I took your advice from earlier this week to just keep drinking fluids. I'm not starving anymore. When I feel real hungry I'll have a Protein shake and in between that sugar free flavored Water, broth or just water. Thanks.. Oh and I'm down 8 pounds. I haven't lost any weight in years. Yay!!!

    2 weeks Post-OP

Hi Tammy. First off, congratulations on losing 17 lbs! That is awesome! Yes, I did have gas issues but mine was mostly right after surgery. It lasted for several weeks, which means it still happened during your current period. I found that walking around, more than anything else, helped to relieve my gas. I tried Gas X strips because it was highly recommended by LBT but it did not relieve my gas as much as just walking around. I still have most of the strips left because I stopped taking them. The gas does get to be less of an issue as I move further and further away from my 9/17 surgery. Some days I have no gas at all. My food related gas pain is not as strong as my pre-op gas pain. For instance, I did not have the pain in my shoulder with food but get it in my belly, which makes me feel gassy and full. Sometimes I even get loose stools associated with the gas. I hope I was not too graphic! BTW I found out that I am lactose intolerant which accounts for a lot of my post-op gas pain, particularly when I have Protein shakes, which I make with fat free milk. Sometimes the lactase pills don't seem to help or I forget to take them in time and, hence, the gas pain and diarrhea! Are you having gas that is as strong as your post-op gas? Is your similar to my type of food pain? Let me know if you need anything else. It is so great that we can check on each other to make sure we are on track! Maxi

    Sipping forever?

Yes, at after surgery, I had to sip fluids too. But after a couple of weeks, I was back to drinking larger quantities of Fluid at once. It will get better.
  12. I am three weeks out and started having hunger pains. But, notice after eat sometimes get sweaty and don't feel so good. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
  13. At what point what week will the stitches fall off? I'm out of surgery 13 days today.

    Bandage

I would ask your doctor. Have you had follow-up visits? I went one week pot-op and go again at 2 weeks. I plan to ask my doctor when I go on Tuesday. Some stitches dissolve, others have to be pulled out.
  15. Surgery of any type is daunting. Like Porkchopexpress, I've been sliced and diced under the knife a few times...... Ok 11 including the sleeve job :-) Firstly. Everyone you deal with will be there to help you Secondly, You'll be out of it so no worries Thirdly, there will be discomfort and self doubt after. As long as you are ready for this you will be ok. If you struggle ask for help! There's no shame in asking. I was in for a total of 3 nights but I had to be different and had a few breathing complications but to be honest I never felt scared. I will say that of all the operations I've had this was the most challenging mentally I know the system in the UK is different but we are all the same when it comes to pain, worry and the need for support. You will be fine and withing a week you'll be cursing the fact that you're running out of ideas for Soups then purees or like me you'll be cooking too much and filling your freezer Enjoy the journey
  16. ditto for the above. Most malls already have it measured, but walk until you are tired stop and then do some more. Before you know it a mile will be nothing. have you had surgery yet? If so how far out are you? I was walking a mile by week 4 and the doctor said I was right on course. Exercise is something that most of us lacked. As they say if you don't work up a good sweat it isn't a work out. Good Luck

    employer

I let my employers know approximately six weeks in advance so we could plan for my absence and I would have time to train someone to take over a few of my critical duties during my absence. I also needed to submit FMLA paperwork and short-term disability paperwork 30 days ahead, so made sure the doctor's office had all of their pieces of that paperwork filled out prior to submitting.

    Guidance Needed

Everyone loses weight at their own rate, so don't compare yourself to your friend or anyone else. You just had surgery 15 days ago. Losing 7kgs (15 pounds) in 15 days is a lot. The average is 1-2 pounds a week so you are losing MUCH faster than most doctors expect you to. Be patient. You didn't gain all this weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight, either. Best wishes.

    Guidance Needed

Your not even suppose to worry about weight loss while your healing. You have a 4-6 wk for healing. Don't focus on your weight loss yet, it will come. Like they said above also told by my doc, you normally lose 1-2 lbs a week. Your doing great!!!
  20. I had a surgery on 10th Nov 2012. In first two weeks, i lost 7 kgs and now its my third week and ive started noticing that im not losing any weight. I am bit afraid and confused coz my friend told me that for almost 2 months i will lose alot weight and after that it will slow down a bit where as in my case, im not losing weight right after two weeks. Is this normal?? Will i be able to lose more weight?
  21. Let's see, the first 4 days were pretty rough, but now as of a week out its a lot better. I'm still not getting in all my liquids and protien but I am eating. I've managed apple sauce, yogurt, pudding, and mashed patatoes. No more then 4oz and I def haven't tried. But I feel normal again. How is everyone else feeling.
  22. It's okay...you will be fine. Every surgeon is different so did your surgeon give you a preop diet plan? How long are you on pre-op diet for? I was on liquid protien for 2 weeks - what a nightmare, but I did it since I wanted a sleeve more than I wanted to eat whatever I wanted. Recommend calling surgeons office to get a plan or search through the pre-op diet section here or go to http://www.cornellwe...gastrectomy.pdf Diet is for sleevers, not just any WLS patient. Good luck you are going to love your sleeve.
  23. Congratulations to you!!!!! I am up a pound after this week but then I've been fluctuating 1-2 pounds for two weeks. At least I didn't gain 5+ like in the past I was the only one NOT miserable after all of our feasting and activities!

    How soon can you exercise

I'm one week out today! I've been doing VERY well until last night I just had a rough night. Woke up and my stomach is cramping. I think I messed up when I took a few sips of a spicy Soup my daughter made. Paid for it last night and still paying for it. LOL My family keeps asking me if I've exercised yet. So I'm asking, when should I start to exercise? I've been walking a little around the yard but like when should I get on my treadmill? After yesterday I don't want to mess up again so I'm reaching out to the EXPERTS HERE!!!
