    Plastic Surgery Before Goal

Hi! I'm so glad I saw this as I hope I can offer some insure. So, I had a lap band in 2011. I was 269 when I started the process and eventually got to 147 (2 lb from goal) when I had to have the band removed d/t complications. I had my first TT 2 months later (4 years ago). I still had redundancy, and had a 2nd TT (really a mini TT...a 360 with butt lift) 2 years later and was around 158 when I did that; I had gained 11 lb over a couple of years. All of this to say, even though I was pretty much at goal the first time, my skin was such that I still had to have a revision! I just had the sleeve as I had gained about 28 lb and couldn't get it off, so I was considered a revision. The reality is, my skin elasticity just sucks and may need another revision in a few years despite an INCREDIBLE surgeon, exercise and diet efforts. It was 100% worth it! Do it! You will lose a Belly button the first time because there will be no muscle plication the first go round (it will only be panulectomy from the sounds of your post). The second go round when you are at goal, may be when they can do the new belly button as you will have a full tummy tuck with plication, and really, you'll prob be an excellent candidate for a body lift! I'm riddled with scars and stretch marks and it just is what it is. I'm healthier. This sleeve has been way harder of a recovery than any plastic surgery, but I know to maintain my weight I had to do it, because exercise and 1200 cals a day wasn't doing it. Do what you need to do for your body, darlin. I've never regretted any plastic surgery I've done to get rid of skin (and there have been many), and I've paid every one out of pocket! I would do it again in a NY minute. I encourage you to do it!

    Why no iceberg lettuce?

I am only 11 post op from a revision but when I had the band, iceberg gave me lots of gas
  5. I decided against a sleeve revision as the sleeve wasn't addressing the actual problem. After a few years of trial and error I worked it out and solved my life long problem. I will be shortly launching My Simple Steps to Health as I have managed to lose 65 kgs by myself eating loads of food and feeling happy, calm and it's changed my life. Should be launching in April and I am more than happy to help everyone who signs up from Bariatric Pal for a heavily discounted amount. Thanks and look forward to helping you. Emma

    Mini gastric bypass

I had a revision to the mini gastric bypass from the sleeve on March 31, 2016. I went to Mexico. I was scheduled with Dr. Illan but due to an emergency that morning (his appendix ruptured) Dr. Zavalza stepped in and did my surgery. No problems and I'm about 8 pounds from goal but smaller in size than I thought I would be.

    Gastric bypass versus Sleeve

I wanted the sleeve because it was a simple surgery. Plus if I ever needed a revision in the future they can make it a rny. I don't think I will need it. My highest weight was 420 pounds. Had surgery on July 2016. My weight is now 273 pounds. Weightloss surgery was the best decision I've ever made. Wish I would have done it years ago. I miss out on so much because of my weight.

    Reversal

Wow... I didn't know there was a forum for us reversed peeps. I had rny in 2001, reversed due gi bleeds primary, as I was going to die, secondary was long term nutritional deficiencies that caused irreversible neurological/cognitive disabilities, but would've died in 2010 without reversal and I probably was the heaviest person to ever need one and had the labs of a person starving to death. My surgeon who is brilliant didn't give me a hard time at my heaviest when I gained almost all my weight back back due to meds, starting at almost 7 years post rny. I was a size 24 again in early 2010 when I begged him for a revision, because if I had to be that sick for so long, I didn't want to be that heavy, even though I had a technically performed perfect rny. He refused saying that I was sicker than Obesity could ever be a threat to me and 5 months later when he brought up a reversal to save my life , I was ready and was going to die by then after living with complications for 7 + years that just were getting even worse. And that were going to kill me . Reversals ARE a dangerous and risky procedure, by the nature of why they are needed. I am not anti-wls and I'm not even anti gastric bypass. But I am around for support which is crucial, when going through this. I didn't know anyone who had a reversal at the time of mine. And even while my wls peeps tried to support me, they didn't know how not knowing anyone else who had one, either..... As "L Colendrea" said there is a support group on Facebook, started by my FB bud Misty (who also blogs and vlogs "life in my in my frankenbelly) and I blog , too about my reversal, as well....
  9. Roux n y Not sleeve I am an elderly woman...dont know if it matters...have not been able to keep Anything down foam mucus and all. Just want to go back two weeks and Run!! Revision?? ?Any advice? I can't believe I am in this spot thanks

11 years banded and removed on 2/22/17

Did you have a sleeve revision at the same time?
  11. I lost like 7lbs on my pre op and 17lbs the 1st month, 2nd was 11lbs m, 3rd was 5lbs, 4th was 11lbs, 5th was 4lbs, nothing in the 5th, 7th went to 9lbs, then none again THEN I GAINED 10lbs in the 11th month. My BMI was still like 48% and since then it goes to and down. By a year and a half I put 49lbs back on then worked to drop again since. I hope it does too and just be mindful that your doc will but your insurance might not. I had Horizon then so when I agreed to AmeriHealth last year they said as long as they hadn't paid for it AmeriHealth would cover the revision. It took multiple appeals and months till my denial got overturned. I hope everything is much smoother than you and I'm the queen of complications if it's helpful lol. March sleevers

    Revision... Aetna

For revision surgery, i met their complication requirement so this isn't looked at as needing to do the original requirements. I currently have the sleeve and if i had to meet their original requirements my BMI isn't high enough nor do i have a comorbidity. So even if i dont get approved for rny, i still have to get the hernia removed and the extra, deformed part of my stomach removed. I hope that makes sense.
  14. I actually had the sleeve in 01/13 and had restrictions but not real progress so Tuesday I'm have the bypass. I never even lost 75lbs and I was 365 and now I'm slightly over 300. My doc actually chose for me and I trusted him, which I still do and he's doing my revision Tuesday. My friend who was about my size had hers right before me and was successful as well as maintained it with the same surgeon. I have PCOS, depression, anxiety and a few other things that factor in obviously but I think I'm just one of the people it unfortunately didn't work for. I still eat so little and got absurd reflux from the sleeve but no other real complaints. Sometimes I think it's a crapshoot and genetics but your goals are a huge factor. Good luck to anyone still deciding! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    So I Did It!

So happy to find this! Any updates or good outcomes please share. I'm very nervous. I'm 61 and trying to decide if Bypass or sleeve is a better choice for my band revision. I hear about GERD with the sleeve but dumping with RNY. I am leaning RNY right now. I am type II. HBP and many other weight related things. I need to get my health in control. Thanks
  16. There is honesty with positive support and then there is bullying. Being supportive and honest does not require negative attitudes. I'm sorry your surgery didn't go well, but don't push your opinions and negative feedback on people who need to hear about the good their surgery can do for them. There is always pros and cons to getting WLS. You don't need to try sabotaging others hopes. We all know the risks surgery has and we sign consent to have it done. Complications suck, but we deal with them as they come. Statisticly, more WLS goes off without a hitch than having complications happen. I hope you have a successful revision this time around.

    Revision... Aetna

Woah! Before you take this irreversible step! Remember that as a revision you far more prone to complications! Is it worth the weight loss? He'll no. Get the band out and hold onto your stomach. Many band to sleeve revision suffer with severe acid reflux a few years out. Some even need a revision to gastric bypass!
  18. You clearly don't understand that honesty is required when providing support! No worries at 3 months post op. The way I am headed with my acid reflux I will probably also be triple threat with yet another revision!
  19. I have tried to keep upbeat during my journey even though it has been through it all. Band 2009 revised to sleeve 2014 and revising to bypass in April. One thing that I do know, is if I hadn't been through this journey, I would still be diabetic. I take the good with the bad and being diabetic for me was the really really bad. My family has had both my maternal great grandmother and grandmother losing legs to diabetes, my mother is diabetic and when I was diagnosed in my 30s I wasn't having any of that. Yes I have had so many complications, but I also have my life and I am thankful for that. I am concerned that someone on this page is so adamant on not getting revised that they are trying to scare people into making decisions that are only their own to make, not their families, not truly their spouses, this decision is truly only between that person and their doctor. My spouse is supportive, my mother is not. I don't really care. I have not been diabetic since 2009 and that was my main goal! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I am not the least bit bitter about my revisions.@AnneElliot you need to get a life and stop berating people based on your opinion. This is a place for support, not extra drama.
  20. @bearhugs1975......so you had a journey filled with complications post op from your initial revision and yet you recommend the revisions! Lool. So you're a triple threat in the world of WLS! Please be honest, your complications are due to your revision! These ppl are asking questions to seek advice and not hear meaningless platitudes. They want to avoid our mistakes! There's no shame in admitting your revision from the band to the sleeve led to so many complications you needed to be revised to the bypass. That the revision may have staved of diabetes but led to more surgeries and other issues

  23. If you have any sort of reflux, I would go bypass. I am currently awaiting insurance approval on yet another revision (I was revised 2.5 years ago band to sleeve and I loved it except the reflux). My doctor is saying that he is no longer revising band to sleeve due to the higher occurrence of reflux, he will only do band to bypass. I can't speak to the bypass yet, but just wanted to get the reflux thing out there. I was given the choice, and apparently chose poorly.

    Nervous about revision

I would strongly recommend removing the band and working towards good health. The sleeve is a far more invasive surgery and your at a higher risk of complications as a revision. Don't do it. You will have the same experiences of crazy restriction one day and no restriction the mext. The sleeve is not your only option! It's a irreversible procedure that is very serious. Read the complications forum, all those ppl thought it would be best but it ruined their lives. Moreover regain is possible! So you lose 80 percent of your stomach. But can regain cause you're not addressing the true cause which is a good addiction. Listen to your family

Blowing it, meant to be obese

Your story sounds VERY similar to where I ended up, take my advice- STOP eating until you're uncomfortably full ASAP. I did it too many times and I stretched out my sleeve horribly. YES it is possible. I just had to have a revision surgery to get myself back on track so it feels like I'm starting over again. Please don't do that to yourself!!!
