    Back on the 'band' wagon!

There do seem to be some people that the band does not seem to work for.... I'm sure for all kinds of reasons I'm grateful to read about happy banding stories. I'm 9 + years out and although she can be a bi*ch at times, I'm happy with my decision. It truly changed my life. From Size 22 to size 12.... Size 10 in a great month . And only 10 lb yo-yo at any given time . It was not the losing weight , but rather the huge regains that used to have me feel unsuccessful before surgery. I think I feel better at 60+ than I did at 40! A whole different way to live. It is nice to have a group of like minded people on this forum I just know I'm gonna try everyday. No 100% here.... But I'm gonna try

    Tough times

Hi there, I too are in the same boat as you. I had a lapband fitted in 2006 and was 98kgs at that stage and lost weight to 72kgs then for reasons I cant really answer as I was at my prime and feeling really really great and loving my new weight. I will say that I was really strict on no sweets etc and ate very well healthy but no much ashad small meals. Any how I guess it came to a stage that my husband and a freind (who is a solo mum) we all were cycling and then our girls decided that they wonted to start dancning so I gave up that day of the week to cycle so that I could take these girls to dancing. This was the beginning again to me being the one to make sure that everyone was able todothere thing. So over the pas 2 and half years I have put weight on and are back up to 95kg !! So i are back to the start. I feel so guilty as I was a self pay and feel guilty that i have wasted our money. I lost my Dad as well 4yrs ago and Dad was the first person close to me to pass. I have struggled with my weight and have no got to the stage where I just dont know how I did it before. I can eat alot and have a very very sweet tooth which is my downfall. I have a 9ccc band and have 8cc in there at the moment, I are wonering if i have streatched the ouch so much that it no longer works for me. My doc here where I got it from is not really that helpfull and I have had to google info on net to try to get answers and find some form of help. I have also in the past 1yr been to doc and he has put me on depression tablets and I have had about 3 different lots and I still are not sure that they are helping... well they may be but I just wont to have my head back to normal ( well hoe I felt when i was at my happy time with my weight) i jsut cant seem to stay in that mind frame - some days i can be really good then bang! some thing or for wome reason i are back to feeling really sad and depressed and i fight it to get out of it but really its so strong it wears me out. :cursing:Oh i sound like a right blimmon sad lady... but i have really always been the positive one in life and everyone thinks that " Oh how do you always stay positive ..... etc) gee if they only new. So I are at the stage that I really just dont know what to do or how to start over and get that feeling of greatness and positive back in my life and no more of this headachs and being tied all the time and being grumpy and self pitty etc.............. ;0(
  3. I'm three years out. We have a vet board here and have several 2-4 years out that visit regularly. Your sleeve is what you make of it, so yes, success is possible if you are willing to change. The sleeve does one guaranteed thing: it removes 85% of your stomach and gives you restriction. Not even the loss of hunger is guaranteed, and I've seen folks report that it returns the farther out from surgery you get. Everything that made you obese is still there. Obesity is not just about eating large portions and poor genetics. In most cases it's also a sign of disordered eating, and whatever your particular issue happens to be will still be there even with a sleeved stomach. So it's really, really important to take advantage of that early period where eating is tough and you don't enjoy food as much to learn how to break those bad habits and cope differently. If you eat around your sleeve, you will regain or not lose or not achieve goal. If you make permanent changes, not just in how you eat but in how you deal with food, you can have long term success. This is not about making goal, as crazy as that sounds. The trick isn't losing weight - that's actually much easier with a sleeve than it's ever been for me on any diet before. The trick is learning how to balance real life with good food choices once you're at goal, so that you can stay there. ~Cheri
  4. Wow, it seems like you are so much more prepared than I am haha. My healthcare center does a seminar on the sleeve on July 19th so I'm signed up to go. It's weird for me, I have lost weight (sometimes up to 30-40 pounds) but have trouble keeping it off. It's happened a few times so my doctor thinks it is best if I do the surgery to aid in the loss and work more on maintaining once I'm down. Let's stay in touch! 5. I am in the same boat with you. I walk a 3 mile loop 5-6 days a week and still haven't been able to loose weight. I just got my referral from my pcp for the vgs and I have my information class schedule on July 12. I have also have documentation of failing to loose weight under a physician care. I am hoping to get things checked off quickly. My bmi is at 40.7. I am excited for you. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
  6. I am like you, I can loose but then I regain for me it's a cycle. I don't think I am more prepared, I started trying to lose weight with my doctors supervision back in November never planning on doing WLS but in march the doctor brought it up to me but I wasn't emotionally ready but I decided this last month I was ready and I like the idea of the VGS. I am excited about this choice and the life long lifestyle that it will offer. I would love to hear how your july 11 appointment goes Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Loss Goals?

I hope to lose 10 lbs a month after that first month. I am about 8 weeks out and my losing pattern is changing from that "I'm losing a pound a day" that happens the first month after surgery - to drop 2 and then hang out at that weight for 4-5 days, drop again etc. Stair steps. I would be happy with 8-12 lbs - actually I am happy with losing anything haha!
  8. Hi, I haven't written on RNY for awhile now but I need some advice I will be 1 year post op on my birthday September 24 the whole reason got the rny was because my obgyn said I was too over weight to conceive a child and I had irregular cycles. She tried putting me on different meds such as hormone balancers and even birth control to regulate my cycles but nothing seemed to work. Her only suggestion was to loose weight and eat healthy and to take vitamins which I did and is why I go gastric bypass. My hubby and I are trying to conceive and have been trying or quite some time and my cycles are regular now but nothing seems to work am I doing something wrong when I went to the obgyn in he first place she said my ovaries are beautiful :/ so what's the problem anyone else having this issue ??? :( :(
  9. wow thanks people i cant even remember why i was scared to talk about this now i feel special, and thats not easy............ thanks so much for the kind words ans appreciating my post! jachut) I have desperately wanted to avoid (and have done so far) that last supper syndrome >>>>>>>>>>I was ready for a month of pigging our on all my favorite foods and thats when they told me I had to lose 40 to 60 pounds before I came or they would not do surgery and ithat they can tell when they get in me if i had rapid weight loss and if I havent they will pull out if the doctor thinks ts risky ... the fat on the liver gets in the way or something. I was really pissed... I lost 41.. (low carb works) But I still got the 'last supper' cuz they had a really nice buffet for dinner and then we ordered a pizza room service, right before midnight... (the cut off time for food) Even though I was able to eat after banded... I still consider those my last meals,, lol but I really wanted to get some weight off before the op and I just cant do it. I cannot eat little enough, >>>>>>>>>have you tried low carb? you can pig out on crap and lose weight fast.. I mean, if its just for the pre op .. and not for a lifestyle change than its fine. I found a few things i liked and ate them as much as i wanted.. as long as you stay under 20 carbs on average a day... you will loose even if you eat like 5000 calories and 300 grams of fat.. Its coool I lost 41 pounds in a month and a half.. my daughter lost 14 pounds in the same time (she was 154 before) My cousin lost about 20 in total..(she was 165) these girls had EVER ONCE went on a diet cuz they loved food and didnt care about alittle chub, But they saw what they could eat and we all did it together FOR FUN and well my daughter found out how different she looked with out the 15 pounds and she has changed her mind about alittle chub beung OK.. she was really cute shaped..(she is 17) my daughter went back to normal eating and it took 7 months before she started gaining it back..SHE IS JUST NOW LOOKING at 150 and when ever she wants to lose it again she can, but she doesnt really care (I am so glad.. when I was 145, i thought i was the fattest cow in town) My cousin went back too (and she is a hog) and her weight didnt come back on for like 6 months and she is still down by ten pounds We were all really shocked how they didnt gain the weight back real fast, at their size,, i thoughts thats what happened when you resumed carbs.. heck.. we were shocked they lost so much in the first place.. It really works. There is a catch.. Think of it as only having ONE rule. You cannot cheat.... if you cheat, you wont lose 'less'.. you will not lose at all and you may even gain. Cheating is simply having more than 20 carbs a day.. (I honestly sometimes had like 50 a day, and did cheat like 4 times on a big meal.....but thats cuz i was so big...and its easy to do days with zero or 5 carbs...but i wouldnt risk it.... the girls stuct to 20 strictly and didnt cheat ever. Funny thing was.. The biggest challenge is finding out what you can eat thats low carb but you dont feel your 0n a diet and it takes alot of research... Well that turned into a carb speach didnt it.. lol

    Hungry

I am due for a fill, but can't get in to see the doc for another 3 weeks. This will be my first fill. Meanwhile, I'm really hungry and am not losing much weight. I'm being very careful but I've not been able to get to the pool for exercise. I have arthritis in my knee so they advised against walking outside the water. Any thought about what to do about the hungry thing or even the exercise that I'm not getting. I'm feeling pretty frustrated at this point and want the weight off so that my knee starts to feel better.
  11. I never thought I'd ask this question and please don't fuss at me... How do I stop losing weight. I'm 100 pounds down, from an 18 to a 4, 5'3" tall, 130 pounds, 6 1/2 months from sleeve surgery. I really feel like I've lost enough so how do I stop losing?
  12. My doctor convinced me to get the band because of the gain-back situation with bypass and sleeve... He said he's become a specialist in band-over-bypass, and that that's now the majority of his practice!! Know that you lose faster with bypass or sleeve, that's for sure, but the 5-year data is the same.

    Need help and advise...

I know it is hard to go through but this really is normal. Our bodies react in different ways to the dramatic reduction in calories and some go into stalls for a few weeks or longer. Continue working your plan and know that the weight loss will kick back in. You won't be the person the sleeve fails if you are eating according to your plan. Adding exercise may help break the stall and it certainly won't hurt if you have the time to get started exercising. Good luck! We will see you posting about your weight losses soon.
  14. Congratulations on your weight loss. Just keep in mind the surgery alone is only meant to help you lose around 50% of excess weight (weight at surgery - ideal weight). The rest is just changing up metabolism through changing exercise regime and caloric intake. Good luck on getting the rest of it off.
  15. 1. Having the counter lady at 7-11, who recognizes me because I used to smoke, ask me where I have been for the last few months (since I quit smoking in March) and ask if I was losing weight, then tell me I look 'great'. 2. Having a snarky co-worker who usually doesn't compliment anyone tell me I am looking 'really good'. (Knows I had surgery.) 3. Taking 65lbs of freshly washed size 3x and 4x clothes to goodwill. Those sizes are done forever! I feel like a million bucks, and I'm only 60 lbs down. Another 90 to goal. I can't imagine what that might be like. But I'm determined to get there!

    NSVs This Week

Congrats Bryn! I like the snarky coworker one- I can relate totally. I have a snarky, jealous coworker. She always looked down on me for getting the surgery-- she would say "I would never get weight loss surgery thats the easy way out" She was about my size before surgery and she is such a jealous snot. She declined all my super cute size Silver brand 20 and 22 jeans because she said they would be "way too big" ha ha ha So I lied and said try these on they are 18's. (they were the 20's and 22's) and they fit her perfectly (even a bit snug) and she took about 10 pairs of Silver jeans off my hands. lol Then I was like ooops I guess these are the 22's. he he he Meanwhile I am wearing super cute 16's yay!

Pseudo Tumor Cerebri Diaged in March 06

Because no one really know whats the cause or the cure they are telling me that some that have lost weight go into remission. I am about 80 lbs over weight and it needs to come off. I'm hoping I'm killing 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. If I can get rid of one demon (the weight) maybe the other will go to sleep cause he wont have no one to play with!

Loosing weight is one of the best possible ways to reduce symptoms.
  22. Howdy Brandi! You and I were sleeved around the same time. I was worried my loss had stopped. I gained 3 pounds from too many BBQ's, parties, vacation and birthday celebrations. I went back to eating sensible and getting in my fluids and dropped 5 pounds this week! Praise God...FINALLY! I haven't heard about the pouch test, but plan to check it out. I also thought of going back to my pre-op liquid diet. I am 22 pounds from my final goal. I am excited! Good luck!
  23. Hi, Jayson! I'm losing a little hair, but it was really thick to begin with, so I don't mind too much :-). I love my new low/typical blood pressure, low cholesterol, low blood sugar, etc. I need to update my weight ticker - I'm at 157 with 29% body fat which I'm pleased with, too. Hope you're doing great as well and that we hear from some other November 11 people:) !

    Banderversary

I haven't been around the site much lately but I just felt like posting today.. It's my 1 year bandeversary, although I am not where I wanted to be at this point (I had much higher expectations but was unable to live up to them)... Who was I kidding thinking that being banded was going to turn me into Jane Fonda or Denise Austin?? yeah ok, I don't think so, I know me better than that.. But anyway so far so good, I really can't complain. I wouldn't be where I am today without the help of my band, and of course some determination on my part and the support of my super amazing boyfriend, his family and my bestgirlfriends. I had so hoped to be 100lbs down in my first year, but knowing now what I didn't know before is that it just isn't realistic for all of us. We lose what we lose, Every Body is different. I can't beat myself up or cry about it, it's partially me (partially my PCOS). I know I didn't workout enough, I wasn't as strict with my food as I should have been. But I chose that route because working out like a maniac and eating like a rabbit was never, and will never, be a lasting thing for me. It's what got me to the weight of 309lbs. For me it was always that old song and dance of losing and gaining more than I lost in the first place, time and time again. Being too strict inevitibly caused me to fail over and over because it never lasted, and I was so afraid it would happen again and I'd truely be a failure with a $25,000 band in my belly, and a lump of embarrassment and devastation in my throat. I still worry that I may fail, I have good days and bad days, who am I kidding I have good weeks and bad weeks, but I can't give up on this... I won't give up on this. So anyway, I've done everything in moderation, my eating, workingout, and my indulging with the penalty of losing slowly, but so what, I'm still losing and I'll take that. When I really sit and reflect and I notice the little changes, I'm so amazed with myself, smaller clothes, I can feel bones, wait I have bones? lol, yeah I do, and it's so awesome to finally meet them.. I can cross my legs, I don't huff and puff walking up stairs.. my sex life (hehehe).. the list goes on and on.. and to think this is only the begining, I still have a ways to go.. I'm still so excited for what my future holds. A future, before surgery I didn't see one, I didn't want to. Now I see the possiblities and I finally see how wonderful life is/can/and will be.. For the first time in my life my weight isn't weighing me down, I'm not a prisioner to it anymore. I actually allow myself to live, whereas before I avoided most social situations by staying home and burying my face in bag of McDonalds or a pizza or whatever else I could shovel in til' it hurt and I fell asleep.. I don't know who I'm writing this for, maybe just for me because who can I really say these things to? Who would really truely get it, or want to listen? Only other banders, maybe.. Or maybe I'm writing this because there's someone out there like me that just needs to hear this and know that they aren't alone.. I don't know.. If anything I say helps or touches one person I'd be happy. Thanks for listening and good luck to every single one of you.. Remember to Never give up on yourself, no matter how helpless things get.. We can do this..
