    I give up!!!!

I realize I need to focus on eating so here is what I eat: Breakfast: 1/2 c. cottage cheese & 1/3 chicken breast lunch: 2 oz pork & 1/2 c. cottage cheese Dinner: 1/3 chicken breast & 1/2 c. cottage cheese Snack: soy chip throughout the day 7 grams of Protein for 19 chips! Evening snack: Yup!!! 1/2 c. cottage cheese!! Yes I do really like cottage cheese.....I doctor it up a little, for breakfast i drizzle a little maple syrup on it lunch is lots of pepper and dinner is a small drizzle of french or even italian dressing ....changes the taste so it isn't boring. I also do 45 minutes of exercise every other day. I know this isn't forever but for now it works for me!
  4. I think the pre op diet depends on how heavy you are from what I've heard and read from others. Some have only 3 days others had 2 weeks. I was a big girl rolling in at 399. I stuck to my pre op diet one week out of two. EAS Carb control shake in the morning and lunch. Water And Sobe in between then turkey for dinner with salad. If i got hungry between that i'd add sugar free Jello or Protein shake. My body eventually got used to it. I cheated one day and had pizza and popcorn at night at my favorite movie dine in place but that's about it. Lost 20 pounds and it was all worth it. Was so scared my liver would be too big and my surgeon would call off the surgery. But turns out my liver shrank to normal size, my surgeon was so stunned when he operated on Tuesday 4/10. He was so proud of me and liver, I felt like a champ lol. liquid pre op is hard, no joke but you can get through it. Sometimes you have to tweak it to customize it to fit you. Plank variations for you to try

Swizzly- sorry for any confusion. I will work on making sure my fitness posts are readable by folks with different levels of experiences and background. Sometimes, it makes perfect sense to me in my head, but may not come out reading that way!! Something for me to work on. Anyways, back to the descriptions. 1) is definitely a straight up plank, but do hold it in a push up position if you can instead of on elbows. In other word, hands flat on the ground directly under your shoulders, straight body and on toes. For fun, you could vary it more by taking one foot off the ground. 2. and 3. Now that you have expressed confusion, I thought about this. These are not really planks, but rather push-up variations. Both start in a position position as described above in 1., but the execution of each rep is a little different. Instead of pumping up and down fast like a regular push-up, slow it down to controlled and very precise movements. For 2, lower yourself to slightly above the ground and hold for 5 seconds. Now push up back to starting position of push-up and hold in position for 5 seconds. That is 1 rep.start out with 10 and increase as your core and upper body strengthens. For 3, lower yourself to slightly above the ground counting slowly from 1 to 5. Instead of pausing as in 2, change directly seamlessly, and raise back to starting position over 5 seconds. The is 1 rep. Start out with 10 and increase as your core and upper body strengthens. The rep should be 1 continuous movement with no pausing as you slowly lower and slowly raise over the span of 10 seconds. These are going to challenge you. As you get stronger in the core and upper body, they will be a welcoming exercise to really build strength. And you can make them harder and more advanced in any number of ways such as slower reps, more reps, 1 legged or 1 armed. Is the more clear? Hope so!

    Having MAJOR reservations

Amber seriously I could have written that thread myself, right down to the hubby part. I think it is something we all feel. I really felt like "what if I die doing something for vanity?". I tol my Dr this on the phone because I was thinking of backing out, which I am SOOOOOOO glad I did not, and he asked me how much weight I am putting on a year. I told him anywhere from 5 to 10 lbs. He then told me that if I continue doing that I would be 430 lbs by the time I was 50. It was such a wake up call. He said it is not at all about vanity, it is about good health and that I was doing something about it. Think of your longterm health. Don't think of 3 days from now, think of 3 years from now. You can do it girl. Just pull them big girl panties up and go for it. I SWEAR you will not regret it. Keep us informed on how it goes.
  9. I think for most people following surgery, fatigue is the biggest issue when it comes to going back to work. If you are relatively young and healthy, it may be less of a problem than for someone with age/other health issues. No matter what, try to build in little breaks if possible. Even 10 minutes of quiet with your feet up and your eyes closed can have a restorative effect. And it's really important to be able to keep hydrated!
  10. Hi y'all, I'm Debbie and I just saw my doc for the first time today. Kinda looking forward to this but kinda scared too. Why am I doing this? Well, in 2002 I broke my tailbone and crushed my lower back. By the time I was fused 13 months later, the surgery failed. Called "Failure to Thrive". Basically means I'm in chronic pain. Because of the way I landed I was told I started a domino effect which is causing my discs to disintegrate known as Disintegrating Disc Disease. All my discs have failed. To help with this I have had 2 Neurostimulators implanted. Yes, I am a Borg. Lol. A few years ago I was seeing a doctor 3x's a week for spinal shots and he unintentionally overdosed me with Vitamin D, which I am apparently allergic to in high doses. Go figure. Well, I ended up with Hashimoto's Hypothyroid Autoimmune Disease. Yay me! Like the back wasn't enough I guess. Yeah. Hashimoto's see's the thyroid as a foreign object to be attacked by the immune system. Unfortunately, I gained a bunch of weight. (55 pounds!!!). On top of already being chubby. and it won't stay controlled or stabilize!! I either sleep all the time or I'm awake for days. I had lost 65 pounds just before all that happened. It's just about broke my heart. Anyway, I went to my pain management doc for more pain shots. But because I told her I was having chest pains she told me I had to see a Cardio doc first. I told her my a Endocrinologist said that was normal with Hashimoto's, she's like nope. Heart doc. So I went. The first thing the Cardio doc said was a Gastric Sleeve to control the thyroid. Boy. What a moment. What a thought. Who knew?? So where I am, 10 days later starting my 6 month journey to surgery. So glad y'all are here!!!

    Vapor

I too was a smoker prior to having surgery. I am 45 and started smoking at 16. I have not smoked the entire time, there were spans of several years of not smoking and then a traumatic event would occur and smoking, along with food, would become my crutch to make it through the trying times. I quit smoking Sept. 1st and was sleeved 10/23/13 and have not missed the cigarettes that much. When I do, I remind myself that I underwent WLS to better my health and why would I want to sabotage that by putting tobacco back into my system. Good luck in your weight loss journey, whatever your decision, but please try to remain nicotine free.

I am looking for a buddy

Definitely track on myfitnesspal - you can set custom amounts for macronutrients, so if you start to go over the amount of carbs it will let you know. When I go low carb, I follow the ketogenic protocol which is basically phase 1 of Atkins. 20g or less of carbs, moderate Protein, and high healthy fats. It cuts out all fo the breads, rice, Pasta and starches, unfortunately. HOWEVER - I found a good high protein low net carb pasta from IsoPasta. It's pretty good, and has less carbs than the Barilla high protein pastas. What I usually eat: Breakfast - 2 eggs, 4 pieces bacon, 1 cup coffee with 1 tbsp heavy whipping cream lunch - salad with mozzarella, lean turkey or chicken and a low carb dressing, or sliced mozz, avocado, olive oil, salt pepper and vinegar. dinner - meat and veggies. This can be salmon, steak, ground beef, chicken, whatever, and usually asparagus or broccoli. My Snacks are 1/2 cup full fat cottage cheese with some walnuts and rosemary infused olive oil mixed in. All of that is roughly 1300 -1500 calories for me, and I weigh everything out. When I stick to it, I lose all of my excess Water weight SUPER fast. The fats keep me really satiated and I have ridiculous energy. Last time I did it I lost 10 lbs in a week and was bouncing off of the walls. My irritable bowel symptoms all but disappear, I'm not gassy, or crampy, but I do spot. As a disclaimer, I usually stall right at the 230 mark though, so that's why I'm still pursuing surgery. The sleeve is also going to be a great tool in helping me to avoid all of those starches, pastas, and carbs in favor of healthier foods. It's going to be a great extra boost for me.

    My pre-op will is strong

I have to say my pre-op will is strong also. Yes, the first 3 days were hard on many levels, but on the forth day things have gotten much easier. I am sooo ready for my surgery (3-10) that I look at this time as being a good prep for discipline and enjoying the 1 meal I get a day (5oz protein and 2 c nonstarch vegetable). I have learned to savior each bite and enjoy the texture, feel and taste. Before, the satisfaction came from the look of a full plate, and the comfort I received from eating it all. I too have not cheated since beginning my preop diet, I have worked too hard for this opportunity!

I am looking for a buddy

Hi there. So you still have to get 14#'s off. I have a problem eating every meal and the Snacks. I tend to forget about eating and then it gets later and later. And I keep forgetting to log my meals. I have 10 pounds to loose and I go up and down with my weight. I walk just about 6 to 7 days a week. I do not understand why the weight won't come off. 16. I've been noticing this as well. It feels like I'm not eating that slowly most of the time, but compared to how I ate pre-op and compared to others around me, I consume at an extremely slow rate now. I kinda like it, it makes the meals last longer and it's relaxing compared to woofing down gargantuan sized meals in 10 minutes.
  17. Very nicely written post. I can relate to so much of what you said. My husband was banded two years ago, he too chose it as self-pay rather then do the bypass our insurance would cover. I was terrified. I worried about him surviving the operation. I worried about him not losing weight and getting very depressed because he saw this as his last chance. I worried that he would lose weight and find someone prettier. Did I mention that I worried?! Well, he survived. He's healthier now then he's been in years. He's lost about 90 pounds, he's kind of taking his time with it. He looks good. I started to wonder if maybe there was something to this banding. So, I did more research. Ran some numbers, since I'm self-pay also. Made an appointment with his surgeon and said "OK, now I really have some questions". Got it all set up, got my date. Was told to lose 10-15 pounds and promptly gained 7! So now, I'm kind of in limbo. I had to wait until the end of August because of work deadlines. Giving me lots of time to think about how much this is going to cost, how much more in debt we will be. About how it will feel to have a device in me that has a say in what and how much I eat. How I'll feel if I can't, for whatever reason I think there might be, lose weight with this. I have a tendency to think things to death and over-analyze. To question my decisions. But I do feel this is a good choice for me. I've struggled with my weight since high school. I'll lose some, then slip up and gain it all back. I'm quite frankly tired of it. Of working so hard with nothing to show. I do realize that there is work ahead of me, but I feel like I'll have my little buddy to help. Hum, I think I need to come up with a name for my band... I agree, this is a journey and will be interesting. I have my op-day outfit picked out (A muu-muu from a recent trip to Hawaii), my shopping list written and my time of from work all figured out. Yay for us!

My Nightmare at the ER in Atlanta, GA.

I completely agree that the ppl in the ER need to be better able to handle lapband patients. I had a similar experience about two months where my band completely closed up for two days and I wasn't able to hold down my spit or drink Water so I went to the ER. Same experience--nobody knew what the heck I was talking about in the ER, one lady thought I needed my tonsils out when I told her I coudln't get down water! Ha! My only relief was that my doc was in surgery so she was able to come down in between operations and do a fluro and remove all of my saline to provide relief. I wish there was a way we could learn how to do fills--it seems so easy to me.... I don't understand why it can't be taught to more trained people? ~Liz~ 03/10/06 241/161/160 5'7''

    Non scale victory

I am totally dreaming of the day I get there. I haven’t been a size ten since I was in the sixth grade. I remember going to camp as a size 12 and coming back from camp at a size 10.
  20. I got banded Monday 8/9/10 & today was my first day on the protein drinks. I had 2 today with a lot of water and took a nice walk. I'm so looking toward week 2 when I can have other items.
  21. I had a leak in my balloon. I was going and going for refills and not feeling any restriction. Then I finally mentioned that I could eat a 6 inch Subway and my Dr took me serious. He filled me to a 10 (I have a 14 cc band) and by the time they did the test with the dye it was all gone. So mine was big. If you feel like you have one, tell your Dr. you want the florioskpy (?) test. That way they can also see where it is leaking from. The port, band, etc. I have many friends who have had this done and none of them needed to keep getting fills. I had to have my surgery redone. Good luck.

    The Three Week Stall????

Hey Newbie Stalls can last different time periods for different sleevers. Since you are relatively new to WLS, 2 weeks stalled, i would venture to "guess" within a couple of weeks the scale will probably start moving again. gotta be patient that being said..... the last few lbs are hard to get rid of i have 10 lbs til goal ------------i've been stallllled for 2 months + , do you hear me screaming? of course not, i shut the door  good luck
  24. I got my lapband in 2007 in Mexico. After a year it just quit working and it stayed dormant in there for seven years and two children. In April of 2014, I went to my Kaiser general doctor who referred me to the bariatric surgeon of my choice (through Kaiser, of course). After an upper GI was done, it was determined that my lapband needed to go. It was old & rusty and doing irrepairable damage to my esophogus. I was scheduled for a revision to sleeve in 10 days and I don't think I met the BMI requirements. With Kaiser, it all depends which doctor you see. Some are great and want to help, others not so much. May I ask where you are located?
