Yes! I can’t use any of the things I was depending on. No G2Z with protein, no protein shakes, no popsicles, no sf jello, no sf pudding, no yogurt….nothing sweet. It makes me so very nauseas. Blech. Sweet tooth is gone! During my week of full liquids, I pretty much lived on Progresso’s Creamy Chicken Soup broth and Manhattan clam chowder broth. They were all that tasted good to me. -
I have started the pre op early. To prep myself when it begins. My preop is breakfast shake, lunch shake, dinner 4 oz of lean meat/tuna and 2 cups of non starchy veggies. 1 snack (2 string cheese or 6 oz carb master yogurt, or 1 cheese string and 4 oz of carb master yogurt) I think I can do other snacks but I don’t like them. My WLS team advise me I was pant to do 4 oz eggs for dinner. Eggs seem to fill me up and keep me fuller longer. Bone broth has become my best friend. I really like the chicken Zoup Bone broth. It curbs those cravings. And the calcium citrat chews, at 4pm I chow down on those 3 that I am allowed to have. But will have to stop them 9-27-22. All I can say to prep myself and keep myself in track is to remember Be BORING when it comes to my food. And keep my focus on my goal. It is really hard when I am cooking for my kid, and making them sweet tea or buying them snacks. LOL my kid asked if it was bad thing I had to cook. I said “I guess that depends on who is doing the cooking and who is doing the eating” lol He tells me it’s isn’t that bad. I said good you can do it with me. He laughed and said ummm I don’t have a relationship with food the way you do. And I am already skinny. (He was not being negative, we have a sarcastic joking relationship) I just reminded him he said the diet wasn’t that bad. He laughed and said I am don’t need to suffer cause you had a toxic relationship with food. I am going I am going to get a new healthy relationship with food and set those boundaries!!!!

I'm also on the soft/puréed food phase. I can eat a whole yogurt (5.3 Oz) or a whole packet of tuna (2.6oz) or a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or a whole 11oz protein shake (or even a whole 32 oz water) fairly easy with no fullness or restriction and it really is upsetting me so I understand

I've pretty much tried them all and I think most of the chewables are less than ideal. It's the iron that makes them taste "off". They also are all sweet, so if you're having issues with sweet things, these probably won't be a good choice. This is why my team actually recommended the capsules. If you can't swallow them, or get an upset tummy if you do, just open them up and sprinkle them into a drink, yogurt, or broth, etc. Seems to work for most folks early post surgery. -
Yes to this! I lost every day the first week and now I am just about a month out and have only lost 1 more pound. I see my doctor at the end of the month and I'm afraid they are going to think I'm not following the diet. I am. I have a protein shake for breakfast, yogurt for lunch and an egg for dinner. I was told not to add any more protein shakes because those count as meals and I'll have too many meals if I do that. I am honestly sort of regretting the surgery a bit since I'm barely eating but not losing any weight. I could have just had the hiatal hernia surgery if I wasn't going to lose weight. I feel like I've permanently altered my insides for nothing. It has been very frustrating for me. A friend of mine had surgery and has lost over 100 lbs in 5 months and she has even told me that sometimes she cheats. I am happy for her, but frustrated at my lack of losing.

I had the gastric sleeve a month and four days ago. I did not get a calorie level recommendation from anyone, no. Currently, I am eating every three or so hours, but I cannot stomach either protein powders or greek yogurt. So I eat mostly chicken, eggs, fish, ground beef and some veggies. Not a lot of fruit. Sometimes a half or a whole protein bar per day. I cannot eat much more than around 40-50 grams of meat at a time. If I eat more I will throw up. So, I'm pretty much eating as much as I can. The only way to increase the calories would be with fruit juice or something like that, which is not on my list of recommended foods.

How far PO are you? Is there a calorie level your nutritionist recommends? Mine had me bump to 800, I'm eating 4 meals a day plus a snack. Every 3 hours I'm eating 2 oz of protein + 2 oz of either veg, carb or fruit. Snack is greek yogurt w protein powder. Constantly putting calories in, 150ish at a time. I feel so full of energy last week, walking 40-60 minutes a day between 2 or 3 walks. Plus I'm just up off my butt so much more than I used to be. I'd check w nutritionist, but maybe a little more calories?

My first week was clear liquids and protein drinks weren’t allowed. This week I have been allowed, but they are just sickeningly sweet to me. I was able to get down a third of an Atkins shake by cutting the whole shake with about 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Mostly I’m living on Creamy chicken soup broth and it hits the spot. So good. Before surgery, I loved the Gatorade Zero with Protein. Now I hate it. Ditto on sf pudding…yogurt…protein shakes…anything sweet. All I want in this life is a fried egg with half a piece of toast. -

Not eating, drinking or walking enough…
summerseeker replied to LookingForward22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery 9 months ago and didnt hit my goals until at least 6 months along. I had so much nausea and vomiting that taking the extra vitamins and calcium was tough. So I rarely did. I never ever got enough water or protein. Then on the 6th month I saw the right person and got the help I needed. Two doses of the right PPi a day. My husband was so worried for me. Since then I have gained strength and can do loads more. My body tells me when its time to rest and sometimes take a day off. I rarely get more than 60 gms of protein a day and if I had not found protein yogurts that I could stomach, I would still struggle. My calorie count is about 650 to 1000 a day. I am lucky that I have no hunger. I dont count my liquid intake but its probably less than it should be but I am ok with that. Its not a biggy with my team either. I am not dehydrated I can walk anywhere I want to now as before I would need a walking stick to go the shortest distance and be puffing like an old train. I may have had a slow start but it has not affected my weight loss, other than having more stalls when I have not been able to eat enough. Every persons journey is different. Its hard not to compare yourself to others but it does no good in the long run. I didnt exercise until month 6 and I knew I didnt have enough strength to do more than keep my home clean and go shopping. Now most days I have too much energy This surgery makes your hormones go stratospheric. Even at my age I knew my hormones where out of whack. My poor hubby couldn't understand why I was so short with him. I was just like when I had PMT again. My team were never bothered about my progress, just helpful I hope you get through your period quickly and get the right amount of ppi for the nausea. You will then gallop along -

Hey there. mine is sept 20 too. My doctor only gave me a 1 week pre op and he said to have a broth based soup and an egg. I started it two weeks out anyway because I wanted to get my body used to the diet since it’s similar post opp. It is definitely a struggle but it gets better. I have less headaches now than I did Monday, and I find myself less irritable. Wednesday was really bad I was so so hangry. I would encourage you to check with your doc or nutritionist to see if anything else can be added like a Greek yogurt or jello. Or even the soup broth. good luck. We’ve got this! -
Ooh I almost forgot on of my favorite “no cook” recipes is quiche. They have one made with egg whites at Walmart deli that is 300 calories. If that fits your stage and calorie budget you can slice it and heat up one piece or more at a time. I like it crispy so I like to do it one piece at a time. Just bake it for 28 minutes. I always have one in my fridge for last minute lunch or dinner plans. Also Panera has half salads on Their kids menu which also gives you the option to get yogurt instead of bread or chips. When you can tolerate lettuce. I like to take it to go or bring my own dressing with me though cause most of their dressing's are pretty high calories.

4 Days Post Op - Protein, Fluids - Help!
MissMerryberry replied to Mebby's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I drank chicken bone broth as a protein source when I was still on clear liquids, but if you can also have protein shakes you must be allowed "full liquids". My "meals" weren't my main source of protein at all, they were just to start getting my body used to 3 meals per day...the whole goal those first few weeks its staying hydrated because dehydration can get you off track for healing. My "full liquids" meals were 3 TBS of creamy tomato soup, 3 TBS of greek yogurt, or 3 TBS of cream of wheat. The rest of the day I was sipping water or Fairlife milk. As for homemade shakes, it matters what you put in them, if I had to guess those homemade shakes may have stuff in there (other than the protein powder/water/milk) that your stomach may not tolerate yet like raw veggies (spinach leaves), raw fruit (strawberries, bananas), etc. You can have protein shakes made with water, milk, protein powder and/or greek yogurt, but in your first couple weeks, there really isn't any other options. Check your recipes with your dietitian or doctor. -
Nervous on vacation!!!! Help!!!
summerseeker replied to MommaJo1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About 6 months after surgery I went on holiday to Europe. The hotel food was very carb based, fried or salads. I couldn't eat any at the time. The meat was tough and the fish overcooked. I really struggled to find foods I could eat. I ate yogurts and soup. I bought deli meats to snack on in between. TBH It was great to get home to the foods I knew. I was glad that I packed jerky and crackers and cheese in my suitcase. I needed them. If you are on a budget, pre buy your foods if you can and snack on them. Then eat a small entree as a main course at the restaurant with family -

Greek yogurt. This one had too much sugar but the ones I usually get were sold out. Is anyone else noticing emptier shelves because of the start of the school year? -
Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Kukubari's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Pre weight loss surgery I drank the International Delight creamers, and went through a phase of using half and half. Then when I began my weight loss surgery journey 9 years ago, I swapped out those types of creamers for cashew milk and always sugar free sweeteners like Stevia. To me it was creamier than almond milk. Now that I'm 7 weeks post op revision, I've switched yet again. Now I make 4 oz of strong coffee with a full reusable Keurig pod and add it to a Fairlife protein shake. I make them both hot and iced. Then I add complimenting sugar free coffee syrups to that if I want. I can't recommend these syrups enough! https://www.skinnymixes.com/ (I also add these to Greek yogurt, SF tea, SF lemonade, and I've read that some people add them to oatmeal, but I've not tried that, I don't eat oats very often) I'm sure you could switch to half caffeine and half decaf for a while if you want to slowly eliminate the caffeine from your diet. If you truly enjoy the benefits from a warm beverage, maybe eventually you can go straight decaf and use a protein shake so that a warm cup of coffee is beneficial to your diet and you ensure you reach your daily protein goals. That's what I do. I have two cups a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so that's 60 grams of easy protein a day for me. Best wishes! -
4 Days Post Op - Protein, Fluids - Help!
SpartanMaker replied to Mebby's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You need to stop thinking of the concept of "meals". It's too soon for that. Instead you should be doing 2 things: Drinking water or other clear fluids. Most docs want you to hit 64 oz or more, but this can be a challenge for some. Things like flavored water, herbal tea, broth, popsicles, sugar free jello, etc. all count as fluid. Get protein in liquid form or maybe pudding consistency depending on your program. (Some programs have you advance to yogurt and/or cottage cheese sometime between day 4-14.) Premade protein drinks, protein powders, etc. all count here. You should be targeting 60 grams of protein, which is basically 3 of the Fairlife Nutrition drinks you already have. At this point you should be sipping these and it may take 30-60 minutes to drink one. If you don't want to do those, you can also add unflavored protein powder to broth, or try a flavored protein water drink, though you'd generally have to drink more of these to get to 60 grams of protein a day. The good thing about the protein water is it would count toward both your protein and your water goals, unlike the shakes. -
Shakes- coffee flavors
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to ShoppGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've never tried the caffe latte, but I do add coffee to my Fairlife protein shakes. My favorite is salted caramel. I also add the Jordans Skinny Syrup in coordinating flavors. Sometimes I add coffee to a vanilla Fairlife and add Pumpkin Spice syrup. I add Mocha skinny syrup if I use the chocolate Fairlife, etc. I also use the skinny syrups in Greek yogurt, and tea, sugar free lemonade (fruit flavored syrups) etc. I'm pretty sure they have coffee and chai flavored syrups too. You can find them at TjMaxx and Marshalls and they're about half price than Amazon and the skinny syrup website. https://www.skinnymixes.com/ -

Yesss they are really good slightly frozen. My mother drinks these too, and she notices an aftertaste if she doesn't slightly freeze them. I don't notice it tho. Do you use unflavored protein powder like Isopure to ad to broths and soups? When I was on liquid, I also had yogurt but thinned it to a watery consistency, not as thin as water, but just where it's slightly thinner. Early out I had the Ratio yogurts because they had more protein than Triple Zero. That might be an option for you to try. -
New here, 3yrs post op, hoping to connect w others who are struggling nutrionally

The best advice I can give is to return to your pre-surgery food plan. My clinic uses a "liver reduction" plan which is high protein, low carb, high vegetables/fiber, and occasional 30g protein drinks I am post RNY>RNY revision on 12/21/21 and losing very slowly after losing a lot (70 lbs) pre-surgery). It's frustrating. Because of complications post surgery I have no more consumption restriction than I had pre-surgery, so I have to strictly track my food intake, calories, and protein on the Baritastic app. I'm getting about 1000-1200 kcal per day now. The clinic wants me to eat 800 kcal. I can stick to the diet for meals, but struggle with craving between meals. I'm like a zombie staggering to the refrigerator at 3pm, 8pm, and bedtime. The cravings are irresistible. I want ANYTHING! While I have been choosing "good" food, like fat-free Greek yogurt or fat-free cottage cheese and fruit, I'm exceeding the calorie count they want me to maintain. I don't eat sugar, flour, white potatoes, rice, and processed foods because I am a sugar/food addict and these are "trigger foods" for me. I've recently found a few snack foods that are satisfying the craving for these things. For "bread" I've discovered low-cal, low-wheat Ak-Mak Sesame Crackers, WASA Crisp'n Light Crispbread, & WASA Light Rye Crispbread at 20 kcal per cracker. For sweets I like Smucker's Sugar-Free Jam at 25 kcal per Tbsp. A single cracker with a tablespoon of the sugar-free jam often satisfy the urge to stuff my mouth. If not, two surely will. I'm still not meeting the 800 kcal goal, but getting closer. Good luck getting back on track with eating healthy. Get exercise, too! -
That sounds good. I tried greek yogurt, twice, but even though it was lactose free (i'm lactose intolerant) it didn't agree with me. Im fact, it didn't agree with me so much that I ended up throwing up and haven't tried it since. I did buy some sugar free jello and sugar free jello puddings, but unfortunately they are included in the many things that make me gag post surgery. I'd never tried the puddings before, but I had tried sugar free jello from time to time and found it ok, but now I absolutely can't. Same with protein puddings, just the smell makes me sick. I thought I was done with vomiting, since I hadn't done so in a week, but tonight I did again. All I had was a soft boiled egg. I've had scrambled eggs plenty of times before and it was always ok, so I thought I could try soft boiled. I hadn't even finished half the egg when I had to throw up. Feeling kind of defeated tonight, but I guess I'll email the nurse again for advice.

I start everyday w 113 g fat free plain Greek yogurt w a scoop of Optimum Nutrition protein powder, today I had banana flavor. I find it mixes in nicely. I also enjoy sugar free pudding with a scoop of unflavored isopure mixed in. Again, I can't taste the protein powder, but that's me. Then I sip on bone broth, which I simmer w fresh herbs (strain off), 1 cup of that has 10 g protein. Between the yogurt, pudding and broth I'm already to 70+ g of protein. I move to soft foods next Tuesday, maybe then I'll start feeling more restriction.

How was the 2 week liquid diet
ShoppGirl replied to ShannyG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really varies from dr to dr and sometimes patient to patient. Mine was fairly easy. It was just low sugar and carb. I was allowed a small amount of lean meat and veggies each day. I was also allowed yogurt, sugar free jello and popsicles. I remember being allowed unlimited lettuce and pickles so I had a few pickle salads. Of course it got boring and I was ready to get the surgery over just to be closer to eating normal again but at least I can say I was never starving. I had cravings of course but it was head hunger. I was allowed to eat more than enough. Just not what I wanted. -
How was the 2 week liquid diet
kcuster83 replied to ShannyG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon has their own version of the pre-op diet. They change drastically too. Mine had 2 options you could choose from. One option was 6 "Bariatric Advantage" and only calorie free drinks. The second option was 4 "Unjury" protein drinks and a list of foods and their serving sizes and you were allowed 6 of those servings a day. (SF pudding, yogurt, veggies, etc. No meats or anything like that) I choose option 2 just so I could chew things, it was a life saver. I am a huge veggie fan so I was very happy with my veggies which is pretty much all I ate from the list. Point: It was easy for me, I had no problem and was only truly hungry the first day and then I was fine. But, some peoples are VERY strict. I imagine it is harder without the chewing option. Just put your mind to it, remember why you are doing it and you will be fine. -
I understand the frustration with not losing. I thought the first week or two would show a great bit of loss, but so far the scale is hovering between 296-298 fluctuating up and down. I’m only 5 days out so I guess it’s still fluid retention from the surgery itself. I just really wanted to end out August under 290. I know that it is nothing I am doing wrong. I’m walking every 4 hours, getting my water in, I hit 60g of protein today but have been averaging 40-50. Drinking shakes, eating yogurt, and still doing clear liquids. I track everything in Carb Manager. My calories haven’t gone above 400 all week. I’m following every instruction they gave me to the letter. So if I still haven’t lost by my post-op next week, at least I’ll have a log of everything I’m doing and eating to show them, so maybe they can help me figure out what I need to adjust.
