They've unfilled my ring totally last monday but as a matter of fact there wasn't much left in the ring. The x-ray was on thursday and I had barely eaten and been mostly on liquids for 3 weeks prior, and the ring still showed to be displaced. So, now I have another x-ray monday AM, in case it gets better, but they told me to bring my suitcase as they are not really expecting any improvement and want to proceed with the surgery ASAP. So this is probably the last chat I do until after I get back ... I am nervous as things are really moving fast and I now know exactly what I'm heading into, and I didn't find it easy ... I have to keep positive ... It's for the best .... and keep looking at my new pair of jeans size 12 Thanks for your support!

Here goes... It took hours to get there yesterday morning. They called me back at 9am to get me ready for my 10am surgery. My surgery lasted an hour. Arrived in Recovery room around 11am in a ton of pain. Stomach and left shoulder gas pain. The nurse loaded me up on Dilaudid and Morphine which helped in the end after they maxed out. I was so out of it that I could barely open my eyes after being in Recovery for over 5 hours. My throat felt like they scraped it all the way down with the tube. I could barely speak. Not a good experience. Anyway they needed me to drink some Water and pee before they would let me go. I had such a hard time peeing but finally did it. The Anesthesiologist came up to me and told me that if I didn't wake up more than he was going to admit me to the hospital for the night. Well, I knew that couldn't happen because I was a self pay and insurance would not pay for me to stay a night in the hospital. I slapped my face a few times and even took a small walk in order wake up enough to go home. Well, finally at 4:30pm they let me go. I nodded in and out of consciousness in the car on the way home. Had sips of water, broth and tea before heading to bed. I was only a tiny bit nauseous but never got sick. The port site hurts the worst. Mine is on the right side. Fast forward to today. Still in pain, throat a little better, gas pain still pretty bad at times. I was told walking helped but I also used a heating pad on the shoulder which helped a little. My Dr. gave me Lortabs 5/500mg for the pain which helps a little. I feel bloated and have been using Gas X strips to help which I guess helps. I was hoping to have a better story to tell...sorry. My port site is swollen like an egg is under my skin. I have 4 inch slits across my belly and 1 smaller one above to my left where my stomach is. I have had 2 muscle milks and about 1/2 cup of Lipton Noodle broth. I also had a few sips of apple juice. I feel weak and my stomach hurts. However I think I'm a wimp when it comes to pain so don't go by my experience alone. It's the same pain as when my gallbladder was removed 11 years ago. I'm looking forward to feeling better each day. I'll keep everyone posted. Ariane

In two days I hit my three week mark, and I've noticed a stall also. I've gotten so used to dropping weight so fast (46 lbs so far) I got bummed but then realized I've hit the phase where it's going to drop less now I've already lost all the water weight. Just be patient and don't loose the good habits you've gained ????
-
Don't worry after the 3 week stall you will start to loose fast again. The stalls are just part of the process, you get worried you are doing some thing wrong or the surgery stopped working. The stalls are the way your body looses weight, you are putting your body through a big change.

Pulmnologist?
ireallywannabthin replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, so my pulmonologist appointment is complete! For those of you who do not know what to expect, I'll tell you how mine went. First, I met with the woman who was doing my pulmonology tests. I had to put this device (a tube-like device) that I did all of my breathing tests through. I kept a nose plug (looked like a clothes pin) the entire time. I put the device into my mouth and sealed with my with lips. I had to do multiple tests.. first, breathe normal, then take a deep breath then blow it out as hard and fast as possible until I had nothing left. Then I had to breathe in and out as fast and hard as possible. Then, I sat inside a clear tube/coffin like machine (not as scary as it sounds) and the woman told me what to do through the speakers.. pretty much the same breathing tests, except my device in my mouth was now connected to a tube in the machine. I had to pant like I was trying to fog up glass and something in the tube shuts half way through but I had to keep breathing (strange and a bit scary at first.. kind of hard). Then I was given an inhaler and repeated the first two tests to see if there was a change in my breathing. Finally, I met with the actual pulmonologist who asked about family history, my history of breathing, etc (if I snore, of wake up short of breath at night), how I am walking, going up a flight or two of stairs, etc. The doctor said I breathe beautifully, thank goodness! I never met him before but he gave me the thumbs up for wanting the surgery! -
5 c.c. sounds like a lot. I had my 3rd fill on Wends. and now I am at 2.5 cc and it's pretty tight. I have to chew my food soooo much it makes it almost not worth eating, lol. I PB alot more now and even throw up if I eat to fast or wrong stuff (chicken mainly). Glad you are feeling better goofygirl~ hang in there.

I've seen post like this before , I wish i remembered this answer. I had lost almost 20lbs. since surgery, 4-23, and now in the last few days, after adding in cottage cheese, refried beans, lasagna w/out pasta, I've gained about 2 lbs. I know that weightloss between now and 1st fill is a bonus, but what gives??? I know there was an explanation to this b/c I've heard a couple other bandsters have the same problem. PLUS, I get full really fast, and am also scared to eat too much, so i know my portion size is small, but maybe too small? Maybe my body is still in starvation mode? What do you think?

I don't know about anyone else, but I can still remember being skinny. I was 108lbs soaking wet as a teen and remember my step-mother saying over and over"Your too skinny, you need to gain some weight" A few years ago, I told her if I ever heard those words coming out of her mouth again....." Anyhow, I didn't finish the sentance but I got my point across. That was the point when I started eating more and more. Which didn't hurt me at first then as I started having major medical problems as I got older, I really piled the weight on and could not stop. This all seems like a really fast roller coaster ride and I still do not feel like I am as big as I am. That is why I am so shocked and embarrassed when I see pictures of myself. That's the time it really hits me how much weight I have put on since then. I enjoyed being skinny. Thought it was cool to be able to double cross my legs, and to see my ribs sticking out when I would breathe in. Still can't believe I cant get a regular pair of boots zipped up. Hehe...those were the days.....

Four months out. No problems with liquids or protein. I just moved to solids and everything is fine. I'm a fast eater, so I do end up sliming once or twice per week, but it's great negative reinforcement. I do love having a definite limit to what I can eat and feeling completely satisfied. I can't imagine ever regretting this wonderful surgery!

Help? Food Plan, Do I need a fill? Low Carb?
silvers320 replied to rosstheboss's topic in The Guys’ Room
Congrats on feeling great. I will say that I always worry when people say they PB every day - that should not be an acceptable norm. Look at why its happening - are you eating too fast? The wrong food? Long term PBing is not good. I think 1500 calories a day with 500 calories of burn off doesnt seem like enough for me - but what do I know. I will say I had to do the 3 meals -3 snacks thing or else I would eat so fast I would be PB for an hour. I also notice there are some night where I wonder if I left my band at the office because I feel like I could eat all night long. Thankfully those are rare. I eat some - I drink water. A lot of water on those nights. -
Gas Pain Or Not????
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like your portions are perfect. I would be inclined to think either you're eating a little too fast or it's your gallbladder acting up. -
I am three months out and tried a low sugar oatmeal this morning. I added some blueberries as I had tried those before without a problem. But I am still paying for Breakfast over three hours later. My pouch feels awful...like it's coming up the esophagus and just sitting there. I guess it's the "stuck" pain that people talk about. And maybe I ate it too fast. There was plenty of liquid to help it go down. But...sigh...i hate this part of having the surgery. I guess it's all in the "learning curve" though. I am very happy with the weight loss and I feel great, otherwise! Yesterday i went out for lunch with my daughter to Boston Market and had a drumstick off of her "1/2 chicken" plate. I took the skin off and the chicken went down just fine and tasted great. I ordered an extra side of mashed potatoes and gravy and ate about 1/3 of that. So eating out is becoming more doable. I brought the leftovers home and had them for dinner. I'm looking forward to trying a salad but I'm not sure I'm ready. It's scary to try new foods....because if they do "get stuck," it's so very uncomfortable!

XP: Successful Bandsters Past and Present
flowers replied to RestlessMonkey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think the three things that are crucial for me are 1, exercise, 2, cutting carbs and sugar 3, cutting down snacking. Iv had a few setbacks, a heat rash that spread and spread until I had to go see a dermatologist and lost a month not walking or exercising. A cruise set me back and other cruises planned, so Im not going to set any weight loss records. Lost the weight before and pushed and pushed, but then like you I got tired of "dieting" and ate all the fried and sugary foods I wanted and gained it back very very fast. This time Im doing it slow but sure. Im not depriving myself like I did before, just being better about some foods and making sure I walk/jog, which I just got back to a week ago. I do have some treats still, if my family has a sub, I do too, but not every day and I might skip Breakfast if I do. My ticker doesnt reflect the weight I lost pre surgery, only the weight Iv lost since the surgery. At least Im finally back in Onederland. Iv lost the easy weight, now Im just doing 10 lbs at a time. I try and just concentrate on the ten pounds Im working on, so I dont get discouraged. -
1. A fill applies pressure around the stoma (hole) and makes it smaller and applies pressure to the nerves around the stomach which can sometimes include a specific nerve that can dim your hunger. 2. What are you eating? You say you don't feel satisfied, but do you feel not hungry when done eating? Satisfied is irrelevant honestly, you eat for nourishment and to quell hunger. For the pain in your chest, sounds like gall bladder pain, ask your Dr. for an ultrasound of your gallbladder (explain that you sometimes have pains for nearly an hour 30-60 minutes after a meal and that they are in the middle of your chest). Also - write down everything you eat and measure your food. You should be eating 1-2 cups of food per meal. 3. Every two weeks is too fast, a fill can be delayed by up to four weeks. You don't have to go in every two weeks, just tell him you feel more comfortable waiting through a whole month because women's bodies go through different changes throughout the month and you know your body (he won't argue). And keep your fills small - some people talk about 5 cc fills at once, that would have had me in the ER - it sounds like your fill, while small to some, was good start - like mine was. I was at my sweet spot with a single 1.5 cc fill. Who knew? I didn't, and I went in for another four weeks later for another 1.0 cc because everyone else on here (almost) needed more and I was too full for two months (while billing issues were worked out) and it was hell. I've had that 1 cc removed, and since had my gall bladder removed (last week - my experience is on the board with all the details) and my Dr left my fill in because I'm in the green zone. FILLS My first fill (dates in my signature) was easy, over in a few minutes, done under fluoroscopy. Provided great restriction (reduction of how much I could eat and what I could eat) and appetite suppression. My second fill (dates in signature) was easy as well and also done under fluorscopy, but I did doubt if I needed it and I should have listened to myself but I didn't. It went well, but I could tell the next day I was too full but wanted to give it a bit to see how it settled (some days I could eat some I couldn't - then I started vomiting regularly). Right now I'm about 0.10 - 0.25 cc from perfect. Only because I get hungry around 3 hours after a proper meal and I'd prefer that be 4-5 hours. Take it at your speed - there's no rush.

I have this guy up at work that keeps saying negative comments about my upcoming surgery. I have been assertive in letting him know that this is my decision to make and it is a major life change that I am willing to undertake. This has been the "norm" for the past three months since I started working at this place. Fast forward to today... we were all rearranging our office (drafting office so there are a bunch of desks) and I was sweating and getting winded. (easy to do at 400 lbs.) This fella says to me "you just need to work out more and eat less, not take the easy way out by getting surgery". Man that burned me up! Like I said I am the "new" guy and It is a pretty loose office. We have fun and joke around with each other. It really is fun at times. It is a small business and there is no real HR department. I do not want to look like the guy trying to get people in trouble. What on earth can I do? The fella is bipolar and really strong so I don't want to tick him off too much if you know what I mean! I am at a loss for the first time since I began this whole journey.

Hi there, I have had 2 fills since I was banded on Mar. 27, 07. My regular doctor recommended that I fast on liquids for the day of the fill and 2 to 3 days later That was tough. My second fill was done in June with Fill Centers USA out of Cardiff by the Sea, CA. That doctor recommended I fast on liquids on the day of the fill and soft mushy foods for 2-3 days after that. I still have days that I cannot eat until around 5 pm and then I can actually eat a little salad. On those same days at noon I will try to eat chicken breast and chew chew chew. Problem that arises at times are the hiccups. I will hold my breath and eventually I can eat again. Sometimes it feels like my band is just too tight and then the next day I can eat meat and other foods. I have taken pepcid a couple of times to help with the tightness. I have lost 74 pounds and got 50 pounds to go. I would do this again, because I think the lap band may have saved my life. I am a diabetic and since all the weight loss my numbers are almost normal. My medication dosages have been lowered and best of all I am bike riding again. It has been almost 20 years since I have been on a bike. I feel great. So hang in there and let them find the right amount of fill and drink your Protein drinks and your Vitamins. You need to do this one day at a time and keep focused. Don't forget your Water too. Lots and lots of it. Take care and let us know how you are doing. Gina

Would love a little encouragement
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to karbear409's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
as long as one is losing (fast for us larger folks usually at the beginning) and slower in some cases for others for various reasons, it should be seen as a happy thing..its not a contest or a race, it is a lifetime/healthy way of living and dont compare..... inches lost are actual/true weight loss even if the scales stop moving or slowly move... no such thing as stalls in my eyes...it will catch up eventually sounds like you are doing great no encouragement needed to be giving to you your weight loss so far and your better health is encouragement enough. well done -
Hi Everyone, I got my surgery date, January 8, 2009, for RNY. Now I am so nervous, with the holidays coming on, my 49th birthday next week, and then surgery next month. I can't hardly eat! I am losing weight quickly, which would normally be a good thing, but at this rate my BMI will be too low to qualify for surgery! Has anyone else been so nervous that they can't hardly eat??? I thought I would be having the "Last Supper Syndrome" by now and gobbling up food like crazy. Probably by the time I have to go on the restricted two weeks diet I will be hungry as a horse and going nutso every time I pass a fast food joint! LOL!!!! Lisa

Scared that they won't approve my surgery
sarahh1828 replied to sarahh1828's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told her I've kept at the calorie count recommended. I no longer eat fast food. I don't even allow chips or chocolate in my home. I've made HUGE changes, but my weight just isn't coming off. I've lost a few inches, but no difference on the scale. -
Weight Loss Pre-surgery - doctor required
Tinainjax replied to CurvyMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do a cleanse with mag 7, ballerina tea, or any other cleanse you like to use that should shed at least 5 or more pounds. Then I did about 500 -1000 calories a day (fresh smoothies help) and did hitt cardio wrapped up for 5 of the days. Also water fasted the last day and a half. This helped me drop 14 in a little less than 2 weeks -
I am having my first consult June 9. I eat when I am not hungry and eat fast. One of the main reasons I am 100lb over weight. How does getting the band help you from not eating when you are full or eating so fast . I am afraid that I will continue with my old habits and not lose. This is such a drastic step for me to take and will be devastated if it does not work. Thanks

Liquids is really important. I actually lost 26 pounds pre-operatively on the liquid diet. That's one heck of a kick start to your new you! Not everyone has that sort of success, but it is meant to shrink the liver so it's easier to move out of the way to make the band placement easier. It also shrinks the size of the stomach some, or so I was told. I hope this helps. And, although the Protein drinks are God-aweful...it's only temporary. I would maybe try something OTC like the Carnation Instant Breakfast (the CarbConscience type) or Low Carb Slim Fast shakes are pretty good, too. I got samples of unjury from my nutritionist which weren't that bad and I just ordered another Protein Drink ... the name escapes me at the moment... but it's fruit flavored and 50 grams of protein per serving. That should make it a LOT easier to get the protein requirements in for the day. Hope this helps. Good luck!
