For those sleeved on or around 7/29/15
FitFunFamily replied to majorsmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES! I was also sleeved on 7/29. I lost 21lbs the first two weeks and have stayed the same since (plus or minus 1lb). I'm worried that at my 1 month check up my surgeon will think I've not been doing my plan! I have done everything to the letter - Protein first then veggies, get my Water in, very low carbs (20 grams a day). Ugh!! I know it's the "three week stall" but it is just really playing with my emotions! My highest weight was 371, surgery weight 324, current weight 302. 69lbs lost in total, 22lbs since surgery. I think we just need to keep on with the plan and we'll break through! -
6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
catwoman7 replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
21 lbs in five weeks is very normal. We started off at about the same weight, and that's about where I was at that point I think shows like "My 600 lb Life" give people unrealistic expectations about their weight loss. You have to remember that those people start off at MUCH higher BMIs than the average WLS patient. Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month. So your loss is perfectly normal! I went on to lose over 200 lbs - so the surgery works as long you're committed and stick to your plan. Edited to add that almost all of us hit our first major stall sometime during the first month after surgery. It's usually the third week, thus we call it "the three week stall". That may explain the 2 lb drop over those couple of weeks (367 to 365 lbs). If you search this site for "the three week stall" you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). but overall, you have lost 21 lbs since surgery. Again, that's a normal loss for the first five weeks. -

All of my December sleevers...
Kapoorvilla replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
last PCP visit November 8th. 280 lbs Day of Surgery December 5th. 277lbs Today 247.6 I have fought a major three week stall during this time. To break the stall I had to accept that this is going to take work on my part and not just restriction of volume of foods. I do the following limits Calories 800, Carbs 50, Protein 80. I walk on uphill incline 30 mins trying to maintain 3 mph and goal is 5 days a week. During the stalls I had calories 1000/ carbs and protein 100. I was also a lot less on the exercise. I anticipate more stalls because being obese my entire life my body is desperately trying to hold on to the weight. I think that during stalls it is important to do a cycle of 2 or 3 days higher intake without stoping the exercise. This tells the body it is ok to burn more is incoming. This journey is a battle for me! -
the infamous three week stall. Happens to probably 99% of us. Stick to your plan and stay off your scale for a few days. Your weight loss WILL start up again.

Embrace the Stall
yerawizardamy replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've seen you post a link for this thread many times, and I've just gone searching for it now that I've officially hit my "three week stall". I was hoping that I would be special but alas, here I am. I'm not worried about it, really. I know that what I've been (or haven't been) doing is a big factor. I guess this stall was the kick in the pants that I needed to really get serious about exercise/water/protein. -
February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
NickelChip replied to NickelChip's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, hello, three-week stall. I see you've arrived like clockwork. I'm one of those people who weighs every morning as soon as I wake up. I started doing it the day before my pre-op diet began. I won't do it forever, but I really wanted the record so I could look back and see what patterns my weight loss actually took, because I think it's easy to forget over time. Plus, I like graphs. So, I hit 217 lbs on Tuesday, and have now been that weight for 4 weigh-ins in a row. I think my body must have access to a calendar because it hit the 3-week mark perfectly. I mean, I'm kind of impressed. -
When is weight loss rapid?
VSGAnn2014 replied to Thebin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL! You are a ball of liquid. You're chock-full of IV fluids you were pumped with while in the hospital. Be patient. You're about to drop a lot of weight. Then you'll hit the "three week stall" which everyone does. And then that'll end and you'll lose weight faster again. -

Ummm... This needs to be pinned! Like a, "come here when you hit the three week stall" post! Great explanation Babbs! -
I have read a lot of stalls between weeks 2 and 4. I watched a video that talked about the three week stall. The doctor explained at first we are losing a lot of water weight. Then as we get fluids we gain fluid but is losing pounds. So it does not show we really are losing. If you do measurements you can see that you lost inches during this time. If you will google the 3 week stall with weight loss surgery or sleeve .... you can fine a lot of videos from different doctors. I am in a stall going on 10 days. I have heard people talking about long stalls but started losing faster. If your exercising you might gain muscle but losing fat. I belong to several gastic sleeve support groups ob face book and learned alot.

That is still amazing. When have we ever been able to lose 13 pounds in 11 days? I did hear that there is a common three-week stall. Sometimes it is just good to throw out the scale and weigh in monthly. -
Omg. The three week stall is a myth. A true stall lasts three weeks or MORE. All your body is doing at three weeks is regrouping to the new way of living and making needed adjustments. There is nothing to worry about if you're following plan to the letter. You could literally sit on your arse for 4 months and if you follow plan you will lose. Not saying this is the thing you should do, but that your body has no CHOICE but to give up the excess in The beginning IF YOU FOLLOW YOUR EATING PLAN. You eat tacos and huge hoagies? Well, yeah, you're going to stall. Or gain. But at 3 weeks? Nope. NOT A STALL Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

4 weeks out and have not lost weight
Arabesque replied to Abbie_tom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The three week stall is experienced by just about everyone but it can happen from week 2, 3 or 4 & can last 1-3 weeks. And you’ll experienced it again along this journey. Yes, it can really screw with your head. I thought of them as your body saying stop. what the hell are you doing to me or it taking a breath as it gets used to the changes you’re making (reduced food intake, changes to activity levels, the surgery, etc.). Leave the scales alone for a few days. Did you take body measurements before your surgery? Sometimes you’ll see changes on a tape measure before you see them on the scales. This is hard work. A lot of reflection, emotional ups & downs, changing habits & establishing new routines but it is sooooo worth it. Best decision I ever made. So many benefits. Keep a list of all your non scale victories a long the way to keep you motivated. Take photos of your shrinking body. You’ll get through this & other hiccups along the way. -
There's something called the "three week stall" which started for me at two weeks. Hang in there--your body is adjusting. Look at it this way--even if you don't lose until 4 weeks, that's an average 5 pound per week loss. Keeping rocking it.

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
ShelterDog64 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Seastars You said "I just didn't think losing weight with the sleeve would be this hard. I read posts about the three-week stall, but that's AFTER someone loses, like, 30 pounds or so!" My 3 week stall was at 23 lbs, and I started with a BMI of 41 and no pre-op diet so no weight loss. My high weight was my day of surgery weight. I'm in my 5th week and still not at 30 lbs lost. And don't forget that men tend to lose faster than women, especially if they start at a much higher weight. Hang in there...I'm still eating 500-600 cals/day, I can't get to 800 and I think it may be inhibiting my weight loss. I'm walking, using the elliptical, doing some arm and leg weight work, etc...it'll come off. -

August Sleevers-How are you doing??
LaLaDee replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know what you mean! I find these forums helpful because checking it every day weirdly reminds me to stay on track. But the posts are always about the three week stall or someone freaking out with regrets 2 days in. I want to be helpful and supportive but sometimes I don’t want to read (let alone, respond to) the same posts over and over. I’m just over 5 months out from my surgery and I feel it’s so repetitive on here. It’s sad because a lot of the actual veterans (people one year plus) vanish from the site and we miss out on their wisdom! Maybe there should be a pinned FAQ thread which answers the top 10 newbie questions that get asked every week here? If people are too lazy to use the search function then they can just read the FAQ thread? -
yea I'm three weeks stalling as well
