    2 Years Sleeved

thank you for sharing your story!! I have my surgery scheduled for 6/4 and am nervously questioning my decision. However, I am at your starting weight although a bit taller. For most of my life I weighed in the 130's and then cancer happened when I was 31 and I went through menopause early. and a whole bunch of other stuff that really packed on the pounds. For the last 6 years I have worked to get the weight off but when I would hit those 3 week stalls I would give up - I figure that the sleeve will give me the tool to get through those stalls because I won't be able to gorge myself. My mindset it also differnt - food and carbs are really not my friend and the tool will help to give me the strength to say no. I hope to fine myself where you are in a few years and I can't tell you how much I appreciate you telling me your story! For some reason I seem to be reading a lot of stories of regret but you give me hope. If I made it through a year of chemo I should be able to make it through this change in my life!!!
  2. As the title says, I hit my 3 week stall about 2 days ago. I have been through this before, so I know not to check my weight for a week now. The stalls are the worst part of all this, and as time goes on, they get longer and longer. But I've already been to this dance, so at least I know what to expect. My gerd is getting bad. I had to go up to 40mg every day and see how that works (going to every other day caused issues, so today starts every day again). I was really hoping that I would be able to get off PPI with this revision, but so far, no. At least I've gone from 80mg daily to 40. If I could get down to maybe 20mg I could learn to be ok with it. I guess time will tell. I was given the ok to try some ground turkey and HOLY CRAP I FOUND THE RESTRICTION!!!!!! I can eat scrambled eggs, avocado, hummus, refried beans, even cheese cubes....nothing. But I had 2 tbsp of ground turkey and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD there was ALL KINDS of restriction!!!!! I've never had this before. It's awesome!!!! I was told my stomach is the size of a golf ball, and I found it hard to believe before, but oh man I believe it now!!!

    Anyone from Maryland?

. I have lost 30 pounds. I have hit the 3-week stall. Recovery wasn't that bad. In the hospital for 2 nights. Feeling pretty well. Weighing food is a must for me. Eating to much is a killer. Hurts like ****.

This could be the famous 3 week stall period....... Eat healthy, drink a lot of water and exercise.........
  5. Okay. I’ve promised myself I won’t panic. Was sleeved on 2/6 and recovering “normally” Lost 23.4 pounds in 12 days and now I’ve been at the exact same weight for 3 days running. Lol, I even had my husband get on the scale to verify it wasn’t “stuck” and it registered a different weight with him. I’ve heard of the 3 week stall and was ready for that, but this has kinda hit me by surprise. Has anyone else had the 2 week stall? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that maybe because I lost almost 10% of my body weight in 2 days, I just hit the stall early? The thought that my body is betraying me again this early in the process is unimaginable
  6. Urgrrrr I hit the 3 week stall the past few days. I've also been getting hungrier lately and cravings are slowly coming back. I made my son a grilled cheese Sammie last night and I wanted it bad, I didn't. I am traveling next week for 10 days. I'm a bit nervous about the plane days and family questioning my eating. I have been walking and intermittent jogging on my walks. Feels great!

    Not another stall question!

I've looked into this quite a bit because it's always been mystifying to me. More out of curiosity than anything else as I only had one stall, for about 2 weeks, shortly after surgery (the famed 3 week stall). The bottom line is that there are a lot of reasons, and no one knows exactly. The most often cited reason is glycogen. The short version of this is that your body is very efficient, and it will get energy where it can do so the easiest. Short term, the easiest way is by burning sugar stored in you body in the form of glycogen. Glycogen binds with Water at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio. So, let's say your body burns a pound of glycogen for energy, it will also release the water, so you could drop 3-4 pounds in a day. Once your body gets low on the easy energy source, it realizes you can't live without these energy stores, so it start burning fat and restoring your glycogen (and the water). So, while you may lose 4 pounds of fat, the scale will not budge as you are re-storing the glycogen and water. But there are a lot of other factors - did you change your diet recently? Are you drinking enough fluids (ironically your body holds on to fluids if you aren't consuming enough)?Hhas your salt intake changed (again, water retention)? are you constipated? Do you have your period (well, you and I are male, so we can probably rule this out!), etc, etc.?? All of these things are factors, and it could be any combination of them, or something else all together (medication?). Regardless, it still seems unbelievable at times. I know when I had my stall I was only consuming maybe 400-500 calories a day, which should have created at least a 2,000 calories deficit based on my body weight. I should have been at a 14,000 calories a week deficit, so not losing for 2 weeks just seemed mathematically impossible! I wasn't overly stressed during my stall, but I hate when I don't understand things, as I'm a very logical and data driven person. Remember though, this works in reverse as well. I lost 50 pounds in 6 weeks pre-op. And I was probably eating 1200 calories a day. Averaging 8.33 pounds a week also doesn't make sense mathematically. However, no one ever seems to question that math, right :-) !!

    Why did you have surgery?

Happy birthday early cherry and good luck with your sugery. My reason for surgery was to avoid a long list of family health issues. I'm the 7th of 8 kids. In 95 my brother dropped dead of a massive heart attack at the age of 34. My mother had a stroke at 40, heart attack at 56 and passed away at 72 from her 3rd heart attack. My brothers have pacemakers or stents. My sisters are diabetics and take multiple meds for other problems. I'm 52 and have no medical issues but these are my genes. I decided now is the time before something happens. I was sleeved on 3/19. Down 30 lbs including what I lost with preop. Hit the 3 weeks stall and scale has not moved in 2 weeks. If it weren't for this forum, I'd be freaking out about not losing. Good luck to all and thank you.

    Increasing calories

THE 3 WEEK STALL SEEMS TO JUST BE SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS BUT YES IF YOU INCREASE YOUR CALORIES SOME IT SHOULD HELP. YOUR BODY GETS USE TO ONLY HAVING 600 CALORIES SO IT STARTS TO TRY AND STORE THEM. IF YOU GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE IT SHOULD START BURNING THEM AGAIN AND YOU SHOULD START LOSING AGAIN.

    May 26th Sleevers - 2 week check-in!

I have my one month spot on Friday which I hope will be the day I start on the soft diet. I am only down 16lbs since surgery which is disappointing because 13 of that was in the first 10 days!!! Hopefully when I go on Friday I will be down 20lbs as I see my scale is moving past the dreaded 3 week stall! Can't believe I am already at 4 weeks, went fast! Exercising is moving a long but still a little tired at times. Puréed food is still working for me and I only get about 2-2.5 oz in, including protein and veggies/fruit.
  14. Just got my surgery date, and the simple answer is NO. My surgeon didn't tell me about iv fluids, just learned this a few minutes ago on a different thread. Good thing because if I left the hospital and weighed more without knowing, I probably would have cried. I've read about the 3 week stall on here as well, had no idea about that. I did although know about the carbs, my nutritionist was very thorough! I actually lost 11lbs and haven't even done my 2 week pre op diet yet. My NUT is also the one who told me to come on this site. I think my surgeon is very busy (no, that's not an excuse) but he might not remember who he tells what to. I have no doubt in my drs ability, he's been mazing from day 1 and very supportive and understanding. I see how vets on this site can be very frustrated tho. I've been on here a few weeks and see some posts and think to myself (really.....??). The first few days were hard to navigate and I'm still lost if I use the website instead of my ap, but I try to chime in where I can and read more. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    newbie :)

The 56 pounds I have lost include my pre-op diet as well as weight lost after surgery. I have lost 12 pounds since surgery and am in the dreaded 3 week stall at the moment and have been for a week. Everyone is different and I started my ticker when I committed to this surgery and went for my consult. I started a high Protein low carb diet at that point as I knew that was what I would be eating after surgery. It also made the transition easier for me at pre-op. I definitely do not want to mislead anyone into thinking that I lost all of that after surgery but I am glad I lost some before as that is now weight I don't have to lose post-op. Good luck with your own personal journey!
  16. I've lost 76.6 since my highest. And 63.6 since March 11th. I've dropped 2 sizes in pants. I lost a bunch at the beginning but has tapered off and I'm losing at a regular rate now 1-2 lbs a week. I did have an almost 3 week stall and then all of a sudden I dropped 10lbs in a week. So it made up for it!

Nice going! Broke through my own 3 week stall and have lost about 4#. Like you, hoping the next stall is way off.

    Early for a stall?

Everyone, there is a link in my sig explaining the 3 week stall. You're not doing anything wrong and there is really nothing you can or should do to "fix" this. Just give it time and it will correct itself. Check out the link and don't stress too much about it. And yes, the "3 week" stall is just a ball park time frame, not an exact term.

march sleevers the good and the bad

I just posted my before and during picture to my profile here for anyone who is interested... The pic difference represents 59 pounds lost from when I first booked my surgery date. For the month of March I've lost 21 pounds. 7 pounds during the two weeks preop and 14 since my surgery on March 13th. I'm THRILLED with my March loss even though I know that there are some who lose much more.. but I've been on 800 calories a day since the beginning of December so I didn't expect super dramatic results! I'm pretty sure I'm entering a stall now. My weight loss pattern historically always includes 2-3 week stalls followed by big losses so I'll just have to ride it out!
  21. I can't believe it's been a month! ! Yes, Happy Monthiversary to everyone :-D I hope everyone is feeling really good. I thought I broke my 3 week stall, but no such luck. I wonder if I'm gonna be a slow loser. I'm starting to wonder what's going on here.
  22. Absolutely. If you ate, say, 600 Calories on a Wednesday. And if, on that Wednesday, you burned, for example, 1800 calories, then you lost body fat. On that day, you lost body fat. And a little of other things, some protein. Not from muscle primarily like people say but from skin and intestinal lining which are high turnover proteins. The scale doesn't always reflect that linearly. You may retain water, or have inflammation. The people who say "I lost 21lb in the first two weeks and in week three I've stalled" - well, it's simple nonsense! They didn't lose anywhere close to 21lb in two weeks. It's takes a caloric deficit of 3500 Calories to lose 1lb which means that they'd have needed a deficit of 5250 Calories per day. Which even if they ran a marathon and ate absolutely nothing, is impossible. So...they almost certainly lost inflammation weight after their operation trauma, glycogen/water if their carbohydrate levels are much lower than pre-operatively and there will be other aspects too like serious dehydration. And this infamous 3 week stall? Well, all those things are largely finished and most people won't be doing the KFC buckets with extra fries in week three, so why is it? Normally increased fibre, giving roughage weight in the intestine and rehydration due to the ability to drink more water.

    March Sleevers

I think I had hit my '3 week stall' a bit early... Last week I was stuck at 37-38 pounds loss. Today the scales says I lost over 2 pounds from the day before. So glad to have had the sleeve. My energy level is even higher than before surgery. My clothes are very noticeably loose on me and my belt needs new holes punched in it or I need to buy a new one. My only set back was coming down with strep throat 1 week post op. Just taking things one day at a time. Today I get to start ground meat.... YAY... something not pureed or liquid.

    Slow WL

I’m not seeing the numbers drop like I had hoped either. My surgeon is fantastic and when I saw him one week post op (surgery was 1/21) I asked if I was on track. He said he didn’t care what my weight was that day. He cares what it is in 10 years. (I really love my surgeon and team). Now I’ve hit I guess what everyone calls the 3 week stall. BUT as a was tracking my food this morning I checked my graph for weight. From my highest a few years ago I’m down over 30 lbs. That encouraged me. Slow and steady wins the race. But in my heart of hearts I SO WANT to see that scale move dag nabbit!!
