    How often do you weigh?

Ditto what zoomzoom said - started out daily but with a LONG 3 week stall I switched to weekly and that's what I do now.

4 weeks post op & scale isn't decreasing

I don't think you are off track. You are going through the dreaded 3 week stall. Losing 13 lbs a week for 2 weeks may have sent your body into starvation mode. Now it has to figure out this new lifestyle of yours. Once it figures out that you're not really starving, it will stop holding onto every calorie. The weight will start coming off if you just stick to your eating and exercise plan. It was a worrisome problem I had to learn to live with. I've gone through 8 or 9 stalls and it took a long time to learn that - as long as I kept doing what was working, it would start working again. The worst thing I could do was to start fiddling with my diet plan.

    Too Good to be true?

@@FlyInTheOinment - nope don't worry. In three weeks you will worry because you will stall. That is the bodies inevitable response to the weight loss...its NORMAL. (Google 3 week stall). But it sounds like you are doing everything well and you have great support. Three weeks from now when you hit the gym again, keep it light, go up 10% per week, as well you should your Protein and calories until you hit resistance. Then stay there for a week. Then continue. And then please keep posting with your progress. We love to hear of great success. It is encouraging and dang I smile a whole bunch when I hear of people doing good.

    Barely loseing

Thank you, I've heard of the 3 week stall but never week 1 it threw me a bit and I've been feeling down as my weightloss is not near people that had surgery on the same day. It's very hard not to compare although I'm trying. I'm still in quarrantine due to covid restrictions in my Country but definitely looking forward to get walking. Thanks alot. 5. As everybody else has said, the “3 week stall” is a real thing. I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow and from about the 12 day mark to the 22 day mark, I only lost 2 lbs. I started to freak a little because I’m barely eating and have no hunger or desire to eat. My nutritionist said it was normal and I confirmed that here on the message boards. My best advice is like everybody else said, stick to the script and only weigh once a week. I’m down 60 lbs in 6 weeks (2 weeks pre op diet until now). So while I had that little “stall”, I’m averaging 1lb a day. So I look at the big picture. I wish I had your hunger!
  6. Sunny, I am sorry you are so frustrated! Please don't give up! Your body and mind have been thru an awful lot in the last few weeks! You are still in the healing process. And since you sound like me and have tried every diet know to mankind you have probably rendered yourself diet resistant. Let your body adjust to it's new tummy and restricted calorie intake. Follow your surgeons diet plan and you will lose the weight. You are probably in the middle of your 3 week stall so the number for weight loss was not exactly as low as you thought it would be. This will take time! But slow and steady wins the race. This time we do not have to worry about being dragged back to the high side of the scale. Keep your Fluid levels up too. I know this is hard...it's hard for me too but we can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hugs!

    Three Weeks Out

Kim, you may have reached the infamous 3 week stall. A lot of folks have experienced it. Take a deep breath and trust your scale will move soon. In the mean time, evaluate your progress so far: Are you getting in all your liquids? Are you getting the right amount of protein (60-80 grams depending on what your doctor recommends)? Are you eating enough? Sometimes you body may go into "starvation mode," especially if you are under 800 calories. Hope this helps! Hang in there. Stalls are a normal part of the process - I know that doesn't make it any less frustrating!!

    Post Sleeve Question

Welcome to the 3 week stall. My wife and I also had surgery around 1 week before you and have also hit our stall. If you look on the forum there are a lot of people that have this stall due to the rapid weight loss. Per the other forum posts, we just need to keep at it and our body will start losing again soon.

    sleeve failed

You're in the dreaded 3 week stall. Search for it under forums and there is a plethora of information to suggest how to buck it. I was in the 3 week stall for nearly 4 weeks. I'm 4 months out and have just got out of another 3 week stall. Its your body calibrating. Up your calorie levels a wee bit, no carbs, lots of water.. voila. It'll move again when your body is ready.

    Increasing calories

THE 3 WEEK STALL SEEMS TO JUST BE SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS BUT YES IF YOU INCREASE YOUR CALORIES SOME IT SHOULD HELP. YOUR BODY GETS USE TO ONLY HAVING 600 CALORIES SO IT STARTS TO TRY AND STORE THEM. IF YOU GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE IT SHOULD START BURNING THEM AGAIN AND YOU SHOULD START LOSING AGAIN.

    What am i doing wrong

Search for 3 week stall. It's beyond common. Nothing you are doing as far as I can see from your post is wrong. Just keep making sure you hit your protein goals and work to get to 128oz of water if possible. And stop stressing about the weight right now, work on healing and getting your diet worked out, the rest will happen. As far as bruising, That's a side effect of the blood thinners, and should your team *should* have told you that was going to happen. Our lead nurse joked about it, saying that everyone would have pretty bellies with all the blacks, blues, purples, yellows and greens.

    That 3 week stall tho!

@@tiffanymarie6997 - be prepared for the "3 week stall" to last more than a "week" as that happens as well. It just starts around the 3rd week and its duration is not the same for everyone. Jane

    May 26th Sleevers - 2 week check-in!

I have my one month spot on Friday which I hope will be the day I start on the soft diet. I am only down 16lbs since surgery which is disappointing because 13 of that was in the first 10 days!!! Hopefully when I go on Friday I will be down 20lbs as I see my scale is moving past the dreaded 3 week stall! Can't believe I am already at 4 weeks, went fast! Exercising is moving a long but still a little tired at times. Puréed food is still working for me and I only get about 2-2.5 oz in, including protein and veggies/fruit.
  14. After losing 15 lbs in the two weeks post-op (and 0 lbs pre-op because I didn't do a pre-op diet), I have been stalled for going on 10 days. I know it's normal and to be expected...I've googled it, read the message boards, and still stayed awake at night worrying that 15lbs is all I'd get out of this process. BUT, I'm wondering what your experiences have been in terms of how long this lasted, and what (if you can identify anything) broke the stall. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    stalling with weightloss

You're not failing. You're in the legendary 3 week stall. Almost everyone experiences it. Do a search on 3 week stall and you'll see. Just stick to your plan and it will break. Your body is just trying to catch up to the weight you lost quickly in the first two weeks. Give it a little time and keep following your plan.

    Slow WL

I’m not seeing the numbers drop like I had hoped either. My surgeon is fantastic and when I saw him one week post op (surgery was 1/21) I asked if I was on track. He said he didn’t care what my weight was that day. He cares what it is in 10 years. (I really love my surgeon and team). Now I’ve hit I guess what everyone calls the 3 week stall. BUT as a was tracking my food this morning I checked my graph for weight. From my highest a few years ago I’m down over 30 lbs. That encouraged me. Slow and steady wins the race. But in my heart of hearts I SO WANT to see that scale move dag nabbit!!
  17. It is probably a combination of the steroids and the 3 week stall. My "3 week stall" actually started at week 2 1/2 and lasted 3 weeks. It eventually broke and I've been pretty steady since. For Protein, I like the Premier Protein shakes in Chocolate and Latte (if your Dr. is OK with caffeine). You can find them at Costco as well as online.
  18. Just came off 3 week stall and have dropped 4lbs in 4 days...the last few weeks played havoc on my mind but should of known eventually it has to come off ....eating right and moving so just have to be patient

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

Yup - hit the dreaded 3 week stall. It sucks. Ugh.
  20. 6+ months here, I never had buyers remorse, but lots of adjustments to get used to for sure. I love it now, and continue to learn new things about my sleeve life every day. I tell myself I am eating out for the company, and not so much the food, but as time goes on, the food is in the picture more. I can eat anything now (good and bad!), but started out as a vegetarian that became lactose intolerance for the first month... that is better now and I can eat any dairy without problems. If you search this site, you can find lists of the yuck factor from WLS. Skin, hair, puke, pain, wrinkles, food mourning, 3 week stall (look that one up if you haven't already! People starting out go CRAZY when that shows up) and worse. In fact there are few here who did not experience at least one or two of these things. I know for me, perhaps my posts focus on the "glow" of the results, because they are really more important to me than anything bad that has happened to me. A chance for a longer life, my knees and joints are not yelling at me as often, I can up my exercise with JOY! Hike and interact with nature and people better, look hotter in cloths! Junk some of my meds and compete better in the work force. I recognize myself in the mirror after 20 years of WTF is that?! I am grateful and want others to have the chance to feel the same way. First month was the least "fun" of the process so far, but really, the 20 years before that were really the worst part! Not everyone is ready for WLS of any kind... heck not everyone is ready for regular dieting at any one time. The sleeve just evens that out by controlling how much you eat at a sitting on any given day.Sometimes I resist that control, but mostly I enjoy it. A LOT.

How I broke my latest stall

the 3 week stall happens to most people. Your body needs to adjust. Never fear it will pass I know it is hard to believe that but its true. I stall all the time. This last stall lasted for almost a month. I no longer get upset as I know this is how I lose. I will stall for quite a while and then lose a bunch. I don't mind it as long as I know I am still having the times when I lose. I know my body will lose weight with the amount of calories I consume in a day. Just think back to what we used to eat in a day and look where we are now!! Good luck!

    Week 2-3 Stall!?!

Completely normal. It's a normal, necessary part of the process. Every one of us has gone through it around that time. It even has a name: "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall". Hang in there, work your program, and it will pass! It won't be you're last, either Here comes the science: A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

    Stalls:(

You'll know because over the course of the next week you should see regular weight loss. For many, this is the time when the weight just falls off, excluding the 3 week stall. As far as "how much", that's gonna depend on alot of factors. There is no set or normal amount. But you will see loss.
  24. It really is weird. Like I love the ricotta cheese in our lasagna, I made the ricotta bake the same way, it's definitely not the same. Then I made buffalo dip and that's not the same either, it's good, but now the texture gags me lol. I can't stand gatorade zero anymore, well the one that I like, I'm gonna try orange. Going grocery shopping later and craving an orange flavor. The fruit punch is really strong, I have to do the same thing. I think im gonna try making a slushy with it later to see if I like it that way with a lot of ice. Have you tried it that way? I had no soreness or pain really. Glad you feel better! The stage I'm on is puree/soft foods. What exactly is considered soft foods? I'm really craving pickles and cucumbers. Next stage is soft solids. I figured out that pudding mixed in with cool whip doesn't sit good or Kodiak pancake in a cup lol I know it's too early for that. That's probably why, but im gonna still avoid it. Shrimp sounds really good too lol. I think im at the 3 week stall as well. Do you count the ounces too? Well the ounces keep moving but that is it. It's frustrating and it's hard to avoid the scale. Weight was dropping, now it stopped. But how? We're not eating much.

    3 week Post op update!

Hi Kat! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Yes, each day my priority is protein and Water. I'm so glad discovered the GNC Wheybolic 60 because immable to bang out 90% of my protein goal by Breakfast. Please note that i make the shake at 7:30 am, and it takes me until nearly noon to finish it (when 2 scoops are mixed with 8 oz milk it makes about a 12-16 oz shake). I add some water too to thin it out a bit, otherwise it's pretty thick and sits heavy on my sleeve. As far as supplements, I take nexium (PPi) and Actigall (to preserve the gallbladder daily). I also take flintstones complete multi vitamins. I will only take the actigaull for 6 months, and the nexium as needed after that. I did purchase an Iron supplement just in case, but probably won't start it until my 3 month labs are done, and only if my iron is low at that point. I'm a big milk/yogurt eater too, so I haven't needed any Calcium supplement, I'd definitely meeting a healthy level each day. Honestly, I think the biggest key to my loss right now has been the gym. I started back at the 2 week mark doing low impact cardio (elliptical, bike, arc trainer, incline walking) and I'm pretty sure that helped me skirt past the dreaded 3 week stall that most people encounter. I had been weighing daily at that point and noticed my loss starting to slow dramatically (.4 pound for 3 days straight) and decided it was time to up the ante a bit. Since that point I've been losing .5-1 lb a DAY. Hoping to prolong this as long as possible...so if I see another slow down I will change up my gym routine again. My intake is around 450-550 calories a day, with 64 oz water/liquids and minimum of 60 grams protein a day...most days I'm hitting a good bit higher (today was 94!). Hope this helps!
