  1. Hi all! I’m about 6 weeks until surgery and I’m trying to pre-plan Protein sources, maybe even meal prep to freeze. I have tried using GENEPRO. Bought some injury today to try. Just wondering what you all would recommend to get to have for my post op period? Also wondering about if anyone did meal prep to freeze for afterwards? Just can’t think of what might be good to buy or prep and freeze ahead of time. Thanks!
  2. I am 2 weeks out and I'm feeling good but I'm not able to get in all 120 mg of the Protein that I'm needing. I sip Water and Gatorade all day can't finish one in a day this is really troubling I'm not even hungry I eat Jello a lot I'm tired of jello I can start my soft foods tomorrow so hopefully I can get more protein in with that. I ordered GENEPRO protein to make the size of protein to go in the food or drink and not change the consistency. Any other ideas on getting in protein?? Help me!! How long on liquid diet

The post-op surgical instructions vary significantly from surgeon to surgeon and program to program, but in my case the liquid diet was 2 weeks pre-op and 3 weeks post-op. The cream of wheat option is that it is mixed with skim milk (or unsweetened almond milk) to a loose, 'pourable' consistency. I add 30 grams of unflavored Genepro powder and it works fine. No problems with taste or digestion so far.

    Mixing two proteins

There are lots of products on the dietary supplement market that don't do anything except lighten your wallet, but since they don't do anything demonstrably harmful, there is no regulatory reason for them to be pulled off the market. Think of all of the advertised "male enhancement" products that are sold. While Genepro may not be a scam, it checks all of the boxes of being a typical nutritional supplement scam - it's too good to be true (30g of "equivalent" - whatever that is - protein in only 15g of product, and with fewer calories than 30g of real protein!) nobody quite knows what it really is, and they aren't saying, and there is no independent testing of their claims. It may not be harmful - particularly for their target market of normal westerners who already get adequate protein in their diet - but for those who are struggling to get in a minimal amount of protein, it isn't worth the risk. Go with a known quantity that is well documented and accepted - whey isolate, concentrate or blends, pea, soy, egg, etc. It may be legitimate product, but they sure aren't marketing it like it is.

    Mixing two proteins

Genepro is crap. The company has been sued at least twice and just lost the most recent one. There is no such thing as "medical grade protein". It's whey. They came out and said it is just predigested whey that gets absorbed very quickly. It is not equivalent to 30g, it is at best 10g. The best thing to do with that crap is just chuck it in the trash. Yes it is on the bariatric store, but that is a store. It sole purpose is to sell things people will buy. And people buy Genepro because they want to believe it, not because it works. To your original question, mix your protein powders however you like. Whey, casein, pea, or soy... doesn't matter. It's no different than having a salad with chicken on top. There are some benefits to mixing proteins. BCAA content, absorption rate, bio-availability... experimentation in with this should be encouraged. And don't worry about taking in more than 30g-ish of protein at a time. RickM stated it well. You will absorb the protein eventually.

    The truth about Genepro?

This quote is from the Amazon sales page (the bold/underline is my edit) : "The combination of the Tri-Protein and the way it is processed along with the addition of protease enzymes, allows for the equivalent of a 30gram serving of protein with only a 1 TBSP serving size." http://www.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Protein-Powder/dp/B00K6OSDYA

    Protein Goal/Shopping List

Premier Protein drinks. costco is cheapest. I like Choc and Vanilla. Drink them cold or heated. I use GENEPRO unflavored powfered protein still. I mix it into soups, SF pudding, eggs, drinks etc. I get it on amazon. Since a serving is one Tablespoon it lasts a long time. I drank cranberry juice the first week post op. Protein Goal/Shopping List

Genepro seems pretty popluar too it is unflavored protein powder that mixes well. Lots of folks put it in their crystal light drinks in the morning. You get if from Amazon, I haven't tried it yet but it is on it's way to me now.

    Protein

I prefer unflavored, so I can control the type and degree of flavoring. Currently my favorite is GENEPRO, but it does seem too good to be true. Otherwise, it's Syntrax. unjury is a close second, but Syntrax dissolves better. I have been flavoring my shakes with combinations of sugar-free/fat-free Jello pudding mix, cocoa, PB2, and spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. I tried Torani syrups, but they gave me a headache. I've since ordered Monin syrups, but haven't tried them yet. You can also put the unflavored Protein powders in Soups and broth.

    How to heat protein powder?

I use GENEPRO powder in soup and no curdling or clumping and I heat it up! But I want to try a sample pack of different cocoa and coffee from bariatric pantry because I'd pay more to have it premixed if it tasted awesome! You could check some of theirs out? I'm ready to try decaf coffee with Protein... Maybe today.

    Protein Shake Questions

After my surgery I could not stomach the protein shakes. My saving grace was Genepro. It will mix in anything hot or cold. It has 30g protein. The serving scoop size is small. I would mix it with crystal light, or soup broths when on liquids and in creamy soups later. When I got to soft food I put it in mashed potatoes and cream of wheat. For some reason I do stomach shakes again now. But Genepro was fantastic during the post surgery weeks.
  18. I am on my second bag of genepro protein powder. It is my safety net when I can't get all my protein from food, which is often since I am still learning to balance food and water. I made beans and ham after Christmas and I was adding it to that. I also still have lite and fit yogurt on hand to add it to either in the morning to Jumpstart my protein for the day or at night if I don't hit my protein that day.

    Protein Powders

I am 7 weeks out sleeve and depend on Genepro to get my protein requirement. It is available on Amazon and at GNC. I have not tried it in water, but think I will do so today. One tablespoon (a scoop) is 30 gms protein. It mixes very well in coffee with just a spoon or fork. Colder beverages require more vigorous mixing; I find that the Jaxx brand blender cups work better than other brands for me. It is not completely tasteless, but is probably the best--I don't feel like there are any protein powders that are truly completely tasteless and textureless (is that a word? lol), but maybe I'm a little hypersensitive :). Hope this is useful info and best wishes!
  20. I am 8 days out of pre-op and below is my experience Things I bought pre-op or immediately after that I use frequently Wedge pillow for when you get home. I ordered the day I got home because I couldn't sleep flat anymore sugar free popsicles benefiber biotene mouth spray, used that in the hospital and for a few days out, saved me. carmex lip balm 5 oz anchor measuring cup water bottle with measurements on it. Torini sugar free syrups...for decaf coffee ice cube tray - for freezing broth popsicle trays - for making your own as store bought have more carbs and calories than you realize store bought bone broths for in a pinch. Not chicken stock, Bone Broth Blender - I had this but I use this 2 x a day for the protein shakes Make sure you have extra protein like genepro to blend in to help you meet your protein goals Silly, but a basket, notepad, designated for all of your post up meds plenty of loose flowey dresses beach coverups - lucky i had a bunch but you won't want to wear a lot of clothes Loose panties subscription to myfitness pal or a good old notebook to document your liquids and proteins and everything I hate water so I need water enhancers, I used publix brand or great value brand orange soy milk - i discovered the lactose doesn't agree with me so I had to buy soy milk get your mani/pedi before because you will be wearing flip flops and not feel like bending over for sneakers Things I bought that I didn't use. I bought a kitchen scale then realized my program does not want me to use a food scale, only measuring cups 100 1.5 oz medicine cups - never used them..I thought I would track my fluid intake this way...ummm..no.. almond creamer, just don't like it Miralax..didn't need it, the colace and benefiber helps me "go"

    Advice

Someone said GenePro. I'm taking the risk and trying it. I'll try almond milk too, good idea! I use fairlife milk, it has 80 calories per 8 oz. And 13 grams of protein vs the typical 8? Less carbs and sugar and lactose free too. At this point I'm so incredibly nauseous it's hard to eat or drink anything that's kind of why I asked (and I'm too lazy to read my original post). I'm struggling with my water and protein and all that is stalling my weight loss! This came out of nowhere, I was fine for almost 5 weeks! Ugh. I just can't do my usual Cabot right now and even shakes and yogurt are bothering my stomach.

    One month post op problems

My nutritionist recommended Genepro, so I bought a can. Then I started reading about it. The serving size is 15 grams, but they claim 30 grams of Protein is contained in that 15 gram serving. There is also an asterisk or two next to that. Watching their promotional video is like science fiction. They are claiming to shrink molecules down to smaller sizes so they can get all 30 grams in. We have a saying out in the country about trying to fit two pounds of poop into a one pound bag. I will not be buying it again. I have been drinking various flavors of Gold Standard. Now that I am back to food, I am eating meat with a side of meat, and have cut way back on the shakes.

    One month post op problems

Are you just adding your GENEPRO to plain Water? That could be why ou can taste it. If you drink coffee, tea or something hot it works great!! But...add it to a little hot water and whisk it a little before you add it to something. My hubby adds it to his chocolate Almond Milk, do the same thing with a whisk. I have done that also. But I have to shoot it like a shot of alcohol. LOL
