My RNY was Feb 16. The first thing I noticed was how my sense of smell was greatly heightened. I hate it. I can smell ANYONE'S breath within a few yards of me, and it is horrible. It truly and literally churns my stomach and gives me the heaves. My taste buds have changed as well, and Water tastes yucky. I have tried Propel plain with electrolytes, Polar, and am about to try Fiji. I do like Propel Grape for a flavor, but sometimes I want just plain old water. Crystal Light seems too heavy on taste now. I am also having troubles with Protein. I get nauseous still while drinking. I still only have 1 ounce every 15 minutes. My surgeon suggested GENEPRO, which has 30 grams of protein in 1 tbsp. However, every time I've tried mixing it into a drink, I wound up vomiting later.. I'm supposed to be eating applesauce, and blended Soups, but I'm actually scared to try them, since every time I try adding a new item, I get very sick. I know I can't take new things as quickly as my surgeon's handbook says, as far as the food stages. I obviously have to go slower. This is just so nerve-wracking! Like Bufflehead said, as soon as I saw the other products they put out and the "miracle" performance they claim, I ruled them out as a reputable source. Nowhere could I ever find if genepro has a complete amino acid profile. And the complete lack of third party, scientific, fact-based evidence, and no FDA approval are other obvious red flags that this is a scam. -
I can't beleive that a company as big as GENEPRO can get away with false advertising. If you use it in whatever it doesn't have any taste. I am a coffee person and YOU DON'T want to mess up my coffee. LOL It also is made by a VETRAN which I think makes it even more appealing. I went in to read that article and I couldn't get the whole story. They wanted a proffesional Email, like a Lawyer or something. My ? is how can they get away without the FDA coming down on them? I would think that the Goverment would get involved or something. Right

On the go cheese - babybel, laughing cow, cheese sticks Jerky Lunchables (don't eat the crackers) Okios triple zero yogurts (cup or drink) Ready to drink Protein drinks High protein chips/crackers like Quest, WonderSlim, Medifast etc. I make unflavored Protein added puddings and Gelatin. You can buy 2-5oz cups and lids at your local restaurant supply store. At home meals I've made shrimp (ground) curry with zucchini, chicken and cheese stuffed crepes, Korean bbq, swai with again glaze, crust less quiche. They all have 300cals or less per serving with 17g protein or more. Homemade protein fudgecicles 12oz fairlife milk and 2 scoops GENEPRO. Mix well and pour into 6 pack 3oz popcicle mold. Makes 6 serving 54 cals and 10g protein. Can add in things like PB2, banana baby food, instant coffee, sugar free syrups or ground freeze dried strawberries for only a few more cals and carbs.

I prefer unflavored, so I can control the type and degree of flavoring. Currently my favorite is GENEPRO, but it does seem too good to be true. Otherwise, it's Syntrax. unjury is a close second, but Syntrax dissolves better. I have been flavoring my shakes with combinations of sugar-free/fat-free Jello pudding mix, cocoa, PB2, and spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. I tried Torani syrups, but they gave me a headache. I've since ordered Monin syrups, but haven't tried them yet. You can also put the unflavored Protein powders in Soups and broth.

I am a couple weeks further along than you. I eat pretty much what I want (as low fat as possible) Two weeks ago I was in a terrible stall. It was my third one but this lasted over a week. I eat what I want. I had to add a protein powder back into my diet. I got sick on a grilled piece of chicken and just can't seem to eat solid meats tonight I had about 1/2 of a tamale with 2 tlb spoon beanless chilli and 1 tlb spoon fat free sour cream. Lunch was 1 baked salmon patty with ketchup, breakfast a 80 calorie light and fit yogurt with 1 tlb spoon genepro protein powder.

I'm new here. Had surgery on July 2nd. Been a very easy recovery but i feel no restriction at all. Still on full liquid stage and eating only what I'm supposed to but starving. Getting in my protein with Genepro 3 times a day. And I'm sure I should not be weighing myself but I cant help it. Lost 20 pounds first seven days but the scale has not moved in the last four. Just seeking some reassurance that this is normal.

unjury chicken soup mix may be an option for you... I don't like it much, but many people here seem to. At least it's not so sweet! I also add GENEPRO to unsweetened iced tea because I can't stand the excessive sweetness of all the shakes either! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Try Musclegen Research Genepro Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide Powder It is tasteless and odorless and mixes with anything. I found it on Amazon. You can buy a sample got $3.50 on their website Musclegen.net.

Can't get my protein in..
gustavio replied to nannare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank for this cause I had my surgery Tuesday and I'm hating these protein drinks I got about 15 grams of protein yesterday I will try this Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App I swear by Genepro Unflavored. I put it in my hot tea 3 times a day. 90 grams protien quick and easy. It's not clumpy ( keep temp under 140) no taste no smell. It makes it look milky but I love it. I couldn't drink any powdered or prepared shakes. It caused terrible cramps, diaherra vomiting. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I too swear by it. But I do think it has a horrible smell. Which is why I mix it with just a shot of milk. I have a very strong sense of smell.....My husband didnt smell or taste anything when in had him try it. I suppose everyone is different. What I really love is that it's a tablespoon instead of a large scoop. But really, I would never have gotten to my protein requirements If not for this stuff. I had literally tried everything! So I do not complain every couple weeks when I go spend the $35 on a canister of it. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have been having the same problem. I solved it with Genepro and some 25/75 split of light Pineapple juice and water. Try This 3/4 cup of Libby's Pineapple juice 1/4 cup of water (warmed in the microwave for about 20seconds) Mixed in 1 scoop of Genepro (the genepro mixes better in a warm liquid) Combined and poured that in to my popsicle molds. Very good and helps me get my protein in Hope this helps Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I use GENEPRO everyday in my 32oz of my hot decaf tea every morning, and I mix it into other stuff if I find I am behind in my Protein for the day. Love this stuff!! Has been a life saver for me!! -
Hi All, So in due diligence, I've been researching protein shakes and drinks. I haven't had surgery yet, but I'm trying to start training myself to drink consistently throughout the day and to start steering away from not eating most days until 2 PM or later. While at Target this weekend, I noticed that they had the Protein 2o in mixed berry and picked some up. They're not half bad actually. They do seem to make my mouth dry when I first take a sip, but I think that's just a matter of getting used to it and I actually enjoy the overall flavor. Back when I had my lapband sx in 2007 pretty much all I had available to me were the milky, overly sweet type of protein shakes and I loathed them after being on liquids for so many weeks pre/post-surgery. So, I am quite encouraged by the juice type drinks. Which leads me to my question. Given that the protein shake market has gotten so much more expansive in the past 12 years, I'm confused by what seems to be 2 different labeled shakes. Some say Protein "meal replacement" like the Bariatricpal protein One and others like Genepro and Syntrax just say protein powder. I've tried reading the labels and I don't see much difference in the two types. Although I will say that I thought it was rather shady of Syntrax to advertise that their protein individual pack will provide 23 grams of protein, only to read the label and see that a serving size is 1/4 of a packet, so you have to multiply everything by 4 to get to 1. the amount of protein they advertise and 2. the actual calories in each pack. So that's my questions Bariatricpal world: is there a difference in meal replacement shakes and the ones just labeled protein powder Which do you use? Also, since you're here, if you've had bypass and you're greater than say 5 months out, how many of you are still drinking protein shakes as a regular part of your diet, even if just one meal, say breakfast. Thanks for your help!

Protein drinks make me nauseous
Jnfinney replied to Jnfinney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone. I’m going to look into protein hot cocoa. I already have genepro on hand, so I’ll start using some more of that. I’ve been sipping on my protein water as well. I might just stick to my Fairlife milk until Tuesday because the protein drink I had today actually made me vomit ☹️ -

GENEPRO and unjury unflavored I have found that both of these are good as far as not changing the flavor, but they do change the texture for me which is unpalatable to me. -
Same here I'm thinking about ordering some Genepro unflavored protein and just put it in everything. I'm hoping that helps with the fatigue.

I can’t meet my protein requirements
ShelbyMoore replied to Rose400491's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Genepro Medical Grade Protein powder. I bought it on Amazon.. $30 or $40 , don’t recall, but it has 30 servings in it. Each scoop is approx 30g protein (same as 1 premiere shake) I use a scoop of it and put it in my broth. It has NO taste. Once I move on to more foods I will add it to my yogurt, cottage cheese, anything. When you use it, to avoid clumping, I mix the protein powder in a few oz of liquid first. Mix it well to get rid of any clumps then I add it to my larger portion. I tried it as a recommendation on here from someone else. It works great for me!
