Anyone have any problems with Slimband? I had to have mine removed last week. Absolutely no support from Slimband other than to offer a telephone consult with Toronto doctor..., I am in BC. I have been ill for over a year and can finally swallow again!!

I did get approved for another fill by slimband..They are still doing fills but I chose to go to a doctor they suggested since he is closer to me. Now for complications etc I'm not sure what they will do.. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using BariatricPal mobile app

I had my band put in by slimband too in 2015...Did you hear anything about fills etc...i dont feel much restriction lately and was thinking of another fill..Let me know if you find anything out.

I was banded in 2015 and went online to search Slimband because I didn't have their phone number and a site came up saying they have closed their doors. I did some research and found out that the owner of slimband also had a previous clinic that closed and was then changed to slimband. Wondering if he is going to do the same thing and re-open under another name? I have emailed someone that is posted as a support email have gotten a response but I am now worried as far as medical help if there are complications down the road are we left with nothing? I am pretty sure my port has flipped but was told not to worry .........if anyone has had any communication please share. I did ask about fills and am waiting a response but I am not hopefull we will be getting fills anymore now that the clinic has closed. I believe the support person who is emailing me is just someone that has been previously banded but not a RN. Will update when I hear back .

How many fills until you felt restriction

My surgeon didn't recommend anything other than taking pictures of my meals. I haven't had the best experience with Slimband in Toronto and I rely on website support groups like this. I am counting calories and trying to keep my sugars and carbs low. I find I have a hard time ingesting more than 1200 calories a day with my band at 4CC now. I use the small plate and I have to eat so slowly. I find I'm not hungry at all! -
Are you sure you had 7CC to begin with? When I got mine, I had no idea how much was in my band after surgery - Slimband informed me 1CC was put in there initially and then I've had two fills since - 1 at 1CC and then my second at 2CC and I have a lot of restriction...It takes me nearly 30 minutes to eat a meal. I would think if you are still feeling restriction you must not be leaking?

I just received my second adjustment last Friday - Slimband approved me for a 2CC fill, which puts me at 4CC total right now. I have to say, I definitely feel a huge difference and I'm trying to determine if I'm in this "GREEN ZONE" everyone speaks of, or if I'm too tight. I have to eat very slowly and extremely small bites. Even then I'm feeling a lot of restriction and eating scrambled eggs is taking me 30 minutes. I have a feeling my stomach is a bit swollen, which might account for the tightness as well. I'm willing to give it a few weeks to see if I can manage. When I was at 2CC I found I could pretty much eat fine - albeit slower but I didn't get that FULL sensation like I do now. I'm struggling to compete 1100 calories a day right now. Water and coffee go down just fine. Not sure what everyone elses experience is? It's been a little over 3 months and I'm down 13 pounds. -

I too am having issues with Slimband and after the surgery in 2012 it may have been affective for 6 months to a year then it stopped restricting...i told them and even had my family doctor send me for exams which indicated there was minimal restriction...gradually the heartburn and acid reflux started and no matter gow many times i told them i met with ridiculous requests of sending in food logs...which had nothing to do with wether or not the band was working....the doctor form band says its probably not a good idea to get it tightened/repaired...further surgery which requires travel from Alberta to Ontario...but i have to pay to get it removed...almost 5 years and no results...16000.00 plus 1000's in admin fees!!! Im looking to file a class action lawsuit!!! Who else is looking into this...Dr. Yau was my surgeon and has since not had good reviews!!! Anyone??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I had a horrible experience going to see Dr Yau about a fill. Without going into details, he was shockingly cruel and rude. Other bandsters who are out in the cold since Slimband cut us off - where are you getting fills in the GTA, and what are they costing? Thanks -

I am happy to hear others who are doing well. You know losing 100 lbs is a lot so maybe do not put too much pressure on yourself. I still weigh over 200 lbs and every time I see the doctor she bugs me about losing weight. I say to her forget it. I am not interested in getting back on that diet roller coaster of ups and downs. I do not think about food all day and I do not want to count calories or weigh or measure anything. For me I feel this is my SET point if you will. The right weight for my body without trying to adjust it. My slimband is at the tightest I think I can have and it suits me. Just remember to use your self control to avoid really fattening things or have a smaller amount. Scrape leftovers off the plate. Just enjoy your life and for once think of other things besides when the next meal is coming. Hard but becomes easier. -

I'm just seeing this thread now. I'll join you in the class action law suit. I had a call today from Slimband. It's ridiculous how they operate now. They want me to pay them $1,500 for 6 months of "maintenance" which includes a fill or two, if I'm lucky, and some lame consulting from their "professionals" - and I use the term "professionals" very loosely. -

Hey Professor, You just made my day. I regret using Slimband, they've just left me high and dry and I can't afford them any longer, so I will take your advice and see that doctor in Mississauga. I really appreciate your feedback and sympathy! If they see my comments about them on this site, they can sic their legal team on me. What have I got to lose? I'm not saying anything that isn't true Have a fabulous weekend. I'll keep you posted with my progress. -

I am so sorry to read this, @sydneygirl. I also had a negative experience with Slimband Toronto (customer service) and pulled the plug on the lap-band surgery I had scheduled with them before it ever happened. If you signed a contract for a 5-year follow-up, they are within their rights to honour that, although it sucks for you. FYI: You should know that Slimband monitors this forum and will approach you with their legal team (as they did me) if you say anything negative about them and ask you to remove your post(s). Just a heads up. If you are in the Toronto area, I recommend consulting with "Smartshape", (otherwise know as SWLC - the Surgical Weight Loss Centre), in Mississauga with Dr. Chris Colbourn. I was banded with SWLC 8 months ago (December 18, 2014) and had superb results. The follow-up has been outstanding. There is NO FEE for band adjustments. If Slimband is not giving you the love, see what Dr. Colbourn has to say. Incidentally, I strongly feel $1,500 for 6 months for fills is absolutely RIDICULOUS, since they take 10 minutes. Money grab if I've ever heard of one! -

Hi there, I'm new to this forum. I'm at my wit's end and I thought I could vent to you all to see if anybody can commiserate with me I was banded in Toronto, Canada on Dec 30, 2010. All was great, all went well until I started having liquid rising up my esophagus at night time. It turned out to be acid reflux, I had my band loosened a bit, and I went on my merry way. The acid reflux went away, and I was feeling great, except I gained about 30 pounds in the last 5-6 months. During this time, the liquid started coming back, it wasn't acidic (it didn't burn at all), so I was tested for H-Pylori - turns out I tested negative, but I was on a heavy dose of antibiotics just in case I did have the bacteria. I felt 100% better - eating better, sleeping all through the night. Well, the liquid is back now, and I have no idea what to do. I called Slimband (the company I used in Canada) and they told me that even after I paid the $16,000, my account was inactive and that in order for me to get a fill or de-fill, I'd have to pay $1,500 for 6 months. According to their contract, they only do these procedures for 5 years, and my 5 years is up on December 30 of this year. I lost it! I'm all on my own, I can't afford another penny and I'm so stressed it isn't funny. Has anybody had a similar experience? Is there anything I can do?- 6 replies

Tomorrow marks 10 months since I was banded at SlimBand in Toronto. It was the BEST decision of my life. I am down 93 lbs since my pre-op diet started on August 20. I have no regrets. I have 14 lbs to go to reach my goal, and I plan to reach it by the one year anniversary date which is Sept. 4. I would love to help others to achieve success as well. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions.

I was banded at TLBC in July of 2007. My band slipped in October of 2010 and was replaced more than 18 months later. The second band has not worked correctly from the beginning. There was scar tissue from the first band that was causing problems. I had repeated defills until my band was empty. It has now been completely empty for more than16 months. I still struggle to eat and have been given no explanation as to why. I contacted Slimband to ask about having the band removed. The said I would have to contact Dr. Yau at his private practice. I am not sure I want him to do the surgery so I asked if they could recommended someone else but they refused to do so. I contacted his office and was told that he wouldn't even see me without a referral from my own doctor. I really want nothing to do with him but am exploring my options. Has anyone had their band removed? Steve -

I am on my way to Toronto next Monday to see one of the doctors that Slimband says I am his patient. He as no idea who I am his office says there are a lot of patients being sent to see him that have literally been dumped off to him.I was banned in 2010 the band worked for 14 months then broke and was replaced and was not filled enough to give any restriction looking back I think it never did work after several fills and finally I paid a doctor to defill only to find it EMPTY so I was told my contract was over after 4 years I have a 5 year add in my file which will not expire until end of 2015,so off I go to find out what the hell is going on. I will be contacting a lawyer and if I can gather enough folks we will go for a class action, since the company is located in France that supplies the band it should be an experience but I for one will not let this rest sixteen thousand dollars is not a drop in any one bucker.
