My thought process and still is "Just because I can doesn't mean I should". I could easily eat an entire bag of chips, but I choose not to do it. If you are staying within your calorie/protein/carb goals, then you aren't eating too much. But, if you evaluate what you are eating, and you see that you aren't hitting certain goals, and going over in other areas, substitute better choices. I measured my portions, tracked my intake and stayed on target to ensure I would hit my goal weight and change my relationship with food. If you don't want to track, and you want to eat like you did pre-op just in smaller portions that's the path you can take. You are completely in control of how you lose weight, and if you eating these foods, in these amounts are working for you and your happy with your results then you are doing what's right for you. I will say that at 18 months out, I struggle to get in 4 chicken nuggets, and can not eat a chicken wrap. If/when your weight loss slows down, or you stall, you might have to evaluate what you are eating. I chose to stay on mushies for so long because it was easier for me to get Protein in from food sources by sticking to mushy food. Also, I can eat twice as much now that I could at 2-3 months out so I'm really glad I learned new habits, and really focused on not eating junk food that didn't count towards any of my goals. It's way harder to make better choices now, but if I want to maintain, I have to make the best choice most of the time or I'll see a gain. I know myself well enough to know that if I didn't change those bad habits, I would not succeed long term so I chose to be more strict, watch my carbs, keep my protein up and not eat more than what was recommended by my guidelines.

Im a little worried. I know im not supposed to compare myself to others but ive been reading the boards here and im worried i am able to eat too much. Some posts Ive read here say you have to eat fluids only for 2 weeks, then mushies for 3 months!! Wheras my Dr said to "build up to eating normally in the next month" . Ive also read that some peoples dr's have said no strenuous exercise for 4 to 6 weeks, wheras my Dr said i could go back to Rollerderby within 2 weeks... I know VSG is a new thing here in Scotland but still!! Im exactly 14 days post op and i can already eat fairly normally. Yesterday I had my Protein shakes/water, a chicken/sweetcorn tortilla wrap, a mini choc bar, some diet coke, some cornflakes and a yogurt. today, ive had my protein shakes/water, a yogurt, 4 chicken McNuggets, a couple of spoons of mashed potatoes, and probably some chicken/rice Soup for dinner.. Im a bit perturbed that i can physically eat these things quite happily (as long as i chew and eat slowly,a new thing for me!)..... i get hungry every couple of hours, eat a little bit, feel full, then a couple of hours later im hungry again (which is again new to me, i used to eat hardly anything during the day, not be hungry, have a huuuge dinner, then feel sick ) Should i just count my blessings and shut up? thanks

I'm almost a week post op, and I can definitely sympathize. I don't think I have it as bad as you do though. I do sometimes feel like burps get "stuck" and I am still having a hard time drinking because it feels like I'm hitting some kind of a wall... Hope you and I both get past this soon!!

I'm not sure, but I am on my 6th week and I feel like everything I eat and drink makes me nauseous including water, and I have a sour taste from my stomach in my mouth. I am starting to not eat from the nausea. Have anyone dealt with this and what did you do about it?

Pain 3 weeks Post Op over large incision
roxanaadriz posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Question I am 3 weeks Post Op and Sat evening I started having discomfort/pain 2 inches or so above my large incision. I felt like I needed to hold it just to walk.. I was fine before that day. I must mention, I did a lot of walking that day.... more than usual. I called my Dr and I’m going in tomorrow, but wanted some insight from anyone that experienced this before. -
Allergic to bandaids???
pmcw replied to Nippz_7919's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have an allergy to some band-aides and medical tape, I don't know if it is the adhesive or what, because I know the cloth medical tape they usually use in hospitals take my skin off, but I can use the paper tape, so from that I would assume that it was the material, but I also have the same reaction to certain band=aides, especially the little clear spot ones, my skin comes right off. But that is beside the point since the band-aides are not on, what I am most concerned with is that you say it is worse after showering, it sounds to me like moisture may have gotten inside your incision and caused a yeast infection, and that can turn serious, you really need to talk to your Dr. and stress that you are worried and have him take another look, if he doesn't listen consult your GP, this is not a band issue, it is possibly an infected wound issue! I was banded on the same day you were, all my stitches were under the skin, I canot see them, and my doctor used a very thin stretchy clear material, I guess a type of band-aide, but nothing I have ever seen in a store, and he had me try one on my stomach for a few days prior to surgery to make sure I would not be allergic to it, since I told him I was allergic to some band-aides, but I was told not to get my incision wet for a week, I could shower, as long as water didn't get under the band-aide stuff he had on them. If you have openings that water is getting into I would be very concerned! -
Hey Jake, glad you found this site it is an excellent resource for a wealth of information. I am going the vsg route and am scheduled for it in just a couple of weeks,so I can't speak of the things to come just yet. however, I personally feel this procedure is the right one for me. It might be a good thing to research some surgeons in your area and set up a consult to get the ball rolling. I hope you're able to find the right fit for you and can accomplish your goals. Best of luck to you......Andy

Anyone had a Gastric Band to Gastric Sleeve Conversion ?
petaloshea posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my Gastic Band removed last Tuesday and all went fine. They did a special X-ray the next day while i swallowed an aniseed tasting drink. The Doctor said it all looked good. I am chomping at the bit to have my sleeve done but have to wait 12 weeks (24th March) so my stomach is fully healed. I see in the U.S. they often do both procedures together. I do understand taking the precaution of waiting but I have a very good reason for wanting it earlier than 12 weeks. I am a Bing Eater/Bulumic and already I can eat huge volumes of food. The other thing is after I reached my goal weight of 60kg after the Gastric Band I had all the surgery to tighten up my loose skin and frankly looked fabulous. If I keep up this eating I will stretch the skin out again and all those operations will be ruined. I will be talking to my Sugeon as soon as possible to discuss. HAS ANYONE ON THIS FORUM HAD THEIR SLEEVE CONVERSION DONE EARLIER THAN THE 12.WEEKS??? -
had surgery 3 days ago-have questions
lisacaron replied to scubasteph's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@scubasteph The first thing is congrats on your new band! The second thing is don't stress...take a deep breath and relax cause you are right on track. In the first few days to weeks after surgery you are going to be very swollen inside and the idea right now is healing. You don't want to force yourself to eat or drink anything right now. You want to rest and heal up. If you can take many many tiny sips of your Protein drink. Use a medicine dose cup. You are very much "babying" your band right now. You would not feed a newborn a half gallon of milk and neither can you feed yourself that right now. As you soon will see that as you are putting liquids in they will come out and soon enough the #2 problem you mentioned will right itself. Your not putting much in so...give it a chance. Feel good and let us know how your doing!! -

If you were on a pre-op diet of liquids, liquids in, liquids out. 800 calories is a goal, not a mandate. No worries, if you're like all of us, you have plenty of reserves to last a week or so. Just consume what you can. -
Ok I understand why you shouldn't drink 30 min before and after eating. I am having trouble accomplishing this. How do you guys not do this? I am getting much better but I am wondering if anyone has any tips to make this easier. Am I the only one having trouble with this one? My surgery is in a week and I need to get better with this one.

Drinking with meals?
Adina's_Journey replied to Adina's_Journey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@Proud2BMe 30 minutes isn't the problem, it's the 30 minutes before, the 45 minutes during and the 30 minutes after...lol. Some people just have a difficult time not following a bite of food with a sip of drink, I am one of them. I did try the no drink at all but eventually grabbed Hubby's drink, felt like the food was stuck in my throat. Maybe it's a mental thing with me. @@AvaFern If it keeps going like this I will be right there with ya. Congrats on meeting and maintaining your goal. I have surgery on Feb 1st, so I am at the worry about everything phase. Thank you for letting me know that if I fail at the no eat and drink rule that it is still possible to reach my goal. I am gonna give it my best effort though. Still have a week to try to train myself @@jj7481 I hope you are right, maybe I am focusing too much on not having that sip between bites. I am gonna continue working on it. I have had zero problems with the liquids, giving up coffee and diet coke, giving up junk food. This is the only trouble spot I've had. I have just been trying it and it's the hard part for me...lol. Just a habit I guess, I'll get it right eventually -
Having a hard day...
shedevil replied to 140icandoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is so weird how different our des can be. I was on liquid for 4 days and then we were allowed Turkey, chicken, footage cheese, yogurt, refried beans. At one week we could have veggies and fruits..no skin. I asked my surgeon why the difference. He said there is no proof that going through all the stages makes any difference. He said that they wanted us to get on with our lives. I was nervous but have lost 24 lbs since 8/30. -
1 wk post-op, issue w/ BMs & dont understand liquid intake...
TheLCSpencer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I am one week post-op and sort of struggling. This part of post-op is so frustrating. I had a sleeve with Dr. Aceves in MexiCali. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. In his post-op instructions he says we aren't really supposed to have more than 2 oz in 15 minutes. This is pretty hard. At first, I was taking in lots of liquid because I didn't quite understand the restriction. The first 1-2 days were actually alright. Now that I'm understanding what the foamies are (which I got twice in the first two days), I am trying to be more careful. No more than 2 oz, at all times. Also after 2 ozs I sort of feel full, so I don't try to push it. Yesterday I was pushing myself to have about 2 oz every 30 minutes and that seemed to be the best I could manage without stuffing myself full of liquid. At this rate, if I'm up for 14 hours a day, and I don't stop drinking, I will only get 28 oz of liquid--nowhere close to the 64 I'm supposed to get. Also, (TMI) my pee is a little dark, so even at this rate, I still feel dehydrated. Very frustrating. Did anyone else experience this? Does it go away so you can drink more? Second issue is that in one week I have only had one very small BM (a week ago). My reg Dr. suggest milk of magnesia. At what point should I use it? I think it's about time things start happening in that department but im afraid of getting dehydrated even more! I realize that I'm having all liquids and not much should come out, but....I had solids a week ago, and I'm pretty sure that's still somewhere in me (TMI). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! -

Bout 5 months, 2 weeks out and absolutely do not regret it! -
I was just approved by Aetna yesterday. I did not have an exercise person. The nutritionist and the doctor noted I was exercising. I had four visits with both which is the three full months Aetna requires. Hope this helps.

Sorry about your loss! I too found myself emotional eating this week (albeit for different reasons)- at least you recognize what you are doing and are looking for alternatives. I agree with previous post exercise is a good pick me up- you feel great after too instead of guilt.

I am away from work for a total of six weeks. I was sleeved on September 28 and I go back to work on November 14.

4 months post op calories and weight loss
doxieville replied to danic-j's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at 4 months. I eat between 800-1000. But keep my carbs under 20. I lose 1.5-2 pounds a week, which I'm quite happy with. Let's see..... 8 med steamed shrimp 1 cup of creamy Soup 4oz salmon 1 White lasagna wonton cupcake 1 cheese stick & an Atkins peanut cluster bar Any of those keeps me full for about 3 hours. I haven't conquered chicken yet and I don't eat red meats. Last night I 'treated' myself to Pasta. 1/4 cup and I was stuffed. To the gills. I was SO uncomfortable. I suspect pasta is a food that goes down too quickly to be able to give me feedback, so I'm done with pasta for a long time. I hate the overstuffed feeling. Pasta was my absolute fav food so I'm kinda glad that sleevey didn't like it. -

I believe I would have to pay them $1.00 a week! -
Hi. I've been there too. I did find some relief with the extra strength Gas-X strips. A heating pad on my shoulder helped (just be careful not to put it right on your incisions), peppermint tea, and walking. I also noticed that it hurt worse when I sipped on something very cold. It was better for me to drink liquids that were room temperature or warm beverages. I could not have sf popsicles for about a week - it hurt when I ate them. Not sure if any of these will help. It does go away - mine was pretty bad for the first week, and by about 10 days post-op, it was almost all gone. Good luck to you and congratulations on your new band!! Take care!! Becky
