Lisa.. can you recommend a brand of powder you like?do you ever do shakes? Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App If I'm doing a shake powder, it is usually the Syntrax Nectars. I've come to like Caribbean Cooler as its flavor is very mellow- just above neutral. I always add a half scoop of an unflavored powder to it, as well. Brings those 8 oz up to around 35g of whey isolate. There is a RTD product called Protein2O that I love as well. Over 20g whey isolate in it as well. Flavors are EXCELLENT!!! And no whey -forward taste at all. Pretty clean flavors. Again, no milk to it which I prefer. As for the unflavored...I really like Unjury, but it needs to be ordered, so I keep a stash of other brands at home to use if I run out. I add it to anything I can- usually by the half- scoop. Works well in my Oikos Triple Zero yogurt!!! I'll add it to coffee, tea, you name it. Hope that helps!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App It does! Thank you. One more question...is there one site where I can purchase samples first instead of buying in bulk? I would hate to be stuck with it if the taste wasn't for me. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App Don't know about specific sites that allow you to purchase single packs, but i DO know that the Vitamin Shoppe stores sell them for most brands- which, by the way, is exactly what I did when I first began this journey. @@Aggiemae You can add unflavored Protein to almost anything...refried Beans, cottage cheese, any drink whether its hot or cold, applesauce, yogurt, broth, etc. If you get into the habit of doing that, you can eat more 'real' food and use fewer shakes for supplementation.

Ok, I need to ask... Am I weird??? LOL. I'm heading into week 4 post op. *First: I still buy SO MUCH FOOD! I've had to let my husband do the shopping. I now kinda get that a few fat free yogurts and low fat Soups will get me thru the week. *Second: I hit my first stall for 2 weeks and even gained 2 lbs back. My brain says "well that was fun! Surgery and ya only lost 25lbs!". I'm not afraid but I simply don't believe that I'm going to lose any more weight. I feel like I'm going crazy waiting to lose this weight. Has anyone else had similar feelings? It's so bizarre to me. I feel like I'm on the verge of something wonderful happening but then I look in the mirror and wonder is this really going to work? I am 2 years out from surgery but remember where you stand all too well... The thought of what the hell did I do to myself, once you are allowed other foods and they make you sick. My first meal was a scrambled egg white, could barely keep it down, and then I tried yogurt, no good either and all the while my mind was messing with me. Take a breath sip on some warm tea, or really cold tea, my sleeve loved very cold things and not warm things. Even today I can eat my food cold as if its too hot I only can heat a bite or two and I am over full! But go slow, I know this is not the magical answer you may crave but its all a mind game honestly. I stand 2 years out and still play with that devil of witch in my head called *head hunger*. It will pass and come again, its totally a mental game, right now your just learning how to cope, and work with your tool! TAKE YOUR TIME! YOU GOT THIS, ONE MINUTE AT A TIME IF NEED BE! Yes, you do get semi back to normal then you worry your eating too much or grazing which is worse! This is a journey of CONSTANT LEARNING, I myself 2 years out still must relearn and reassure myself EVERYDAY! Thanks so much for your feedback I appreciate it a lot Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thanks so much for the feedback Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I wouldn't. Bananas (and fruit in general) are higher carb/fat, and Peanut Butter is extremely full of fat/sugar. I don't eat either of those hardly ever even at 2 years out. Usually the foods recommended are things like cottage cheese, sugar free pudding, yogurt (greek especially for the higher Protein content), refried Beans (with shredded cheese/sour cream/unflavored greek yogurt), scrambled eggs and other high protein lower fat/carb foods. What does your doctor's nutritional guidelines recommend? That's what I would be paying the most attention to.

I can't do Protein shakes. They just aren't close to anything I found palatable and are too many oz for me to get it over with. I get my protein elsewhere, unflavored Isopure added to Soup, pudding, yogurt, etc. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

What will you have for Christmas dinner?
_Kate_ replied to sk101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Great birthday present Rosey... my surgery was the day after my 54th birthday. Greek yogurt with a dash of sugar free preserve sounds wonderful.. Just to be cautious (and maybe your team will say different) but try a preserve that doesnt have seeds in it. I was warned about seeds too early on. Congrats on the upcoming surgery and make sure you have a fab Christmas Day and Birthday Kate -
I did... i mixed with vanilla and chicolate pudding. Yogurt and Greek yogurt. Sent from my SM-G920T1 using the BariatricPal App

Fruit and veggies
Babbs replied to mandapanda112200's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely. As time goes on, you'll heal up and your capacity will increase a bit. I think I slowly started introducing fruits and veggies around 6 months out. After my protein, I would have room for maybe one or 2 bites of a green veggie. I also would only eat low sugar fruits, like berries, during the weight loss phase, and usually would add them to some kind of protein like Greek Yogurt, cottage cheese or protein shakes. -
Describe your meals and exercise please
ButterflySeoul replied to MommyB's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Breakfast is usually a Protein shake-- I make mine with fairlife skim milk, or add Protein powder to a mcdonalds sf vanilla iced coffee.. on the weekends bfast is usually scrambled eggs w/ cheese and if I'm lucky some bacon lunch is anything from sliced deli turkey (I like butterball's thanksgiving turkey when the deli doesn't run out of it!) with some whole berry cranberry sauce (not a lot, because I know its not sugar free), or a turkey burger w/o a bun and topped with whatever I can find and pack, left overs like pulled pork, Soups, etc. dinner is whatever my hubby is making-- we'll do taco night without the taco shells, chicken w/ guac & cheese and usual taco toppings, turkey burgers, minute steaks w/ onions and mushrooms (I don't eat a lot of beef since surgery- but minute steaks go down with out issue), lots of soups done in the crock pot this time of year- this week we did a fish chowder and a cheeseburger Soup, fish, shrimp, etc. Snacks- P3's, cheese sticks wrapped in deli meats (like salami, ham, etc.), dannon light & fit greek yogurts, single serving pkgs of pistachios, Protein Bars, etc. Exercise is walking every day-- if I don't get outside to walk, I will do Leslie Sansone walking dvd's.., my fit board, and that's about it now that it's too cold here for the pool. -
Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
ButterflySeoul replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I just can not get in the required Protein amounts if I have only 3 meals a day. I have to spread out little mini-meals or Snacks through out the day, in order to get in what I really need. I am 7 months out and still have a protein shake for Breakfast every day (except on weekends).. at work I get two 15 minute breaks, plus my 1/2 hr lunch.. so I bring some type of protein snacks for those break times-- usually a P3, a small bag of pistachios or other nuts, a cheese stick wrapped in some type of lunch meat, a yogurt.. things like that. I see a lot of confusion on faces at work- where they see me shrinking but constantly see me eating little snacks lol. -
Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
elisa5150 replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You should not be moving onto other food if you aren't getting Protein because protein first is the rule. Just as you add protein to you coffee, you can add it elsewhere too. Stir it into to sugar free pudding, yogurt, or drink Protein shakes. A sugar free, high Protein Drink or snack shouldn't conflict with your meal plan. Ask your nut. Make sure you are focusing on what you need to do and not what you can do. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused
trekker954 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Just when you think you've got this whole thing down; I'm stumped. I'm just 13 1/2 weeks post op and so far, this has been going well and I am losing well. Even went on a 4 day cruise on lost a pound. My instructions all along, or maybe I listened in the beginning was to stop when I felt full. I was very cautious of this as I never wanted to not have I ever gotten sick. I do use genepro in my morning coffee. But I try and make sure the remaining protein is from food. I've only recently been told I can add vegetables, but very sparingly. Mostly protein. As I progress to more dense protein, it often fills me quickly. I just noticed today, if I'm not even getting in 3 ounces before I feel full, I won't meet my protein goal. I can't just keep eating chicken and eggs. I'm not a fan of cottage cheese or yogurt. I'm also trying different cuts of beef, lamb and such. My NUT really said to eat only three meals a day. What is more important, stopping when full, or should I push through to eat that last ounce of protein. Or should I have four meals a day, or at least four times, I go for protein. -
Breakfast options?
ButterflySeoul replied to show1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 7 months out, and I still have a protein shake for breakfast every morning, except on the weekends.. but when I was in the soft stage and sick of protein shakes, I would have yogurt (dannon greek light & fit) with some protein powder added in ... or some cream of wheat- thinned w/ skim milk and a scoop of chocolate protein powder in it-- that was my favorite. -
Greek yogurt is a good choice (depending at which stage you're at).

Tomorrow is my day! I have to be there at 5 AM surgery at 7. I am prepping my food for the week. I will be on full liquids when I leave the hospital Tuesday. I have tomato Soup, black bean soup, Greek yogurt and Protein pudding and protein pudding pops. I also have grits and malto meal for Breakfast. I have a lot of sugar free titanic syrups to flavor the yogurt and maybe the malto meal. I'm ready to go! My journey has begun!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm almost 5 months post-op, so this will look like a lot of volume to you: Breakfast is a cup of coffee with a scoop of Protein powder, for 20g +/-. Sometimes I also have a greek yogurt, but I'm not a breakfast lover and the protein in my coffee keeps me going until later in the day. A single-serve greek yogurt is 15g protein and if I don't have it for breakfast, I'll have it at lunch time. Mid-morning, I'll have a cheese stick (8g) or a couple of apple wedges with a tablespoon of Peanut Butter (4g). Mid-afternoon, an ounce of almonds (6g) or 1/2 cup cottage cheese with pureed no sugar added preserves (15g) dinner is usually two ounces of some kind of protein, like salmon (15g) and a couple of ounces of a vegetable. Before bed, if I need more protein for the day, I'll eat more almonds, or another cheese stick. Other things I eat regularly are Beans. 1/2 cup of refried beans with a T of grated cheese (6-7g) Lentils, 1/2 cup with sauteed onions (8-9g)

I just factor them into my daily calorie range. Like an above poster said, it's a daily t treat I allow myself. Although I usually just take one. For the rest of my doses, I mix Upcal D into my morning yogurt (9 calories) and drop or crush a couple of tablets into my Protein shake (0 calories)

Need help deciding if sleeve is for me
Butterflywarrior replied to Alexis99's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some ppl with sleeve get dumping too but not as common I dobt seem to as of now...but interestingly, I sampled my mom s candy and sweet s and tgey taste super sweet and undesirable post surgery.. However I have a huge chocolate craving and finding chocolate yogurt to placate it but most are to Higg in sugar and fat. I had one, didn't get suck but saud, I didn't go through all this surgery for nothing... it's important I work in self control, will power and make the right decisions Bypass is much more likely to give you negative reinforcement then sleeve but it still comes down to working on psychological relationship with food, determination to self care and reward yourself once in a long while if it won't be a trigger to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory! I'm in purees hitting just at three weeks out and u still feel frequent hunger pangs despite protonix however I get full fast and dobt desire junk foods In time, I feel I will be able to eat anything though and so I'm working hard now in therapy and at home on changing my habits, relationship and self control I have a high BMI and was supposed to get bypass originally bc it's easier to shed tge weight but i have multiple complex medical issues so surgeon felt sleeve was safer and better with all the meds I need. Sleeve us safer too complications wise however you have to work harder on your own emotions, will power etc..you can definitely eat around the sleeve as tgey call it and many cab eat anything wo internal consequences eventually -
Yes, losing weight is certainly not a one size fits all. I've discovered it's a never ending process of finding what works for ME. With my restriction it was very difficult to get enough protein from solid foods and still leave room for the other food groups in the beginning. I've always gotten close to 80g protein, but I did It with a lot of protein shakes for the first year or so. And while I still eat a lot of dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) animal protein has been my main source of protein for the last 4+ years. The satiety that dense protein provides and the restriction my sleeve has when I eat it has been crucial for me throughout maintenance Good luck finding the formula that works for you. And don't be afraid to experiment and change things up from time to time If you need to.
