    255 Starting Weight ?

Yessir! It's not extreme, but I have a nice bit of a belly flap and my arms and legs are kinda hangin loose. I really should be hitting the gym a bit more... ahem or period... been sticking mainly to staying active and not eating junk. I think it's slightly tone-able but it'll probably be a few years before it snaps back (if it snaps back). Sure, we're starting at a lower weight... but it's still gonna be about 100lbs+ down. That's no joke!! There was a lot of stuff in there. Lol. Best way to hide it... compression shirts. They rock!!

    Its NEVER enough

You are doing great. Don't worry about others, the day will come when your own jaw drops at how far you've come. I just got back from 3 month checkup about 30 minutes ago. During the visit we started discussing all the little benefits and wonderful moments I've had during this process. I realized, there have been a bunch. But most came after about the first 50 lbs came off. Then, everyone started commenting, I got to fly without a seatbelt extender, my blood pressure dropped from borderline high to just about perfect, 104/68. But most important for me, I just started feeling happier, more fulfilled and proud of my accomplishments both weight related and unrelated. Just keep it up, those great moments are coming. BMI

I had a BMI of 36 with comorbitities but since I've seen the nutritionist I'm starting to lose. If I become below 35 will I get rejected for surgery, or is it what you start the process as? I lose every year and gain it back

    New!

I have received news that my insurance will cover surgery! I have struggled with my weight all my life and more so once I was no longer an athlete due to injuries. I am so very excited to start this journey and take back control, but I am nervous and scared at the same time. I am seeing my surgeon on April 4th for my first consultation!
  8. So I have been doing Protein non stop and it's worked out great. I am down 62 pounds. But now I am facing taking a laxative every 3 days to have a bowel movement. Does anyone have any recommendation for Fiber that won't throw off my weight loss? Thank you
  9. terry1118

    Yes!

When dealing with the 'Last Supper Syndrome' keep in mind that any weight you gain before has to come off after. It could be discouraging to have to lose 10+ pounds post-op while you regain lost ground. Also, I found that those last meals weren't as satisfying as I expected them to be. I did indulge on old favorites once or twice a week (I didn't 'gorge' myself) but balanced it out by eating better at my other meals. It helped keep things in check while savoring goodies I might not have for a long time, if ever. The mindset for losing really must start pre-op. So indulge, without getting out of control. In the long run it's worth it to deprive yourself of foods that are not good for you. As someone has said 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'. I'm finding that it's a true statement. :-)

    What Y'all Think: IX

@@1Cor2:9 I wonder if it is more to do with a boost of confidence after losing weight then it is your actual size/weight making you more attractive (and leading to marriage).

Hello! Are you male, female, pre survey or post surgery? Welcome and enjoy the knowledge you will gain here!
  12. It's comforting to know others have the same issue!!I do know that I have a lot of extra skin. My dr told me he could feel a 6 pack! I just have the extra skin over it. I am 28 and plan on getting pregnant very soon, so they told me to wait on a tummy tuck until I am done having kids. The dr also told me that if all the extra skin was removed, I would most likely weigh about 10 lbs less.. so I guess that puts me almost at my goal weight!

    HOPE

I am one month into my six-month medically supervised diet and have already accomplished so much. All that is left is my psych eval, to complete my six months, and to submit my application for pre-approval. That is it! I should feel elated at getting my checklist near-done, yet I am finding that I do not have much to focus my attention on now that I am as done as I can be for now. This deficit has left me feeling a little depressed and I worry a lot about being turned down by my insurance (HMA through PeaceHealth). I should be occupied with work and graduating this fall, yet that is not what is occupying my thoughts. What does everyone focus on during this time of waiting? How do you stay positive? I suppose I am used to instant gratification and should feel grateful to have this time to work on the problems that led to my weight gain to begin with. Where do you find your hope for a better tomorrow regardless of the uncertainty? How do you focus? Thank you all in advance for your advice. I appreciate it.

    HOPE

Some things I did to stay focused and pass the long six month wait was: 1. I stopped all caffeine intake 2. One month before surgery I cut out all sugars and refined carbs 3. I tried to walk a little each day even though I was terribly out of shape. 4. I did a lot of day dreaming about how my life may change 5. Experimented with a ton of different protein shake brands, flavors, and recipes.. Turns out that was a waste of time because my taste buds changed 6. I brought a food scale, small plates, bowls, toddler spoons and forks. 7. Super organized my kitchen. 8. Made a "bucket" weight loss list of things I wanted to do. I now have completed everything on my list at almost two years post op 9. Still pulled out my hair because let's face it once we make up our mind for surgery six months is a heck of a long time Good luck!!

    Meeting with Surgeon

@@retrieverguy - I asked what concerned me - lack of energy (how long) and hair loss (again how long). He answered both and has been right. The energy picked up when I could eat a little better and I cut my BP meds in half. I am now down to a quarter of a pill. Hair loss is a common post surgery issue...sucks, especially for a woman :/ The surgery was scheduled at my last pre-surgery meeting (guess that's why they call it that). I was pretty set on the idea of being first one on for surgery. I didn't want to wait in pre-op. I have only had surgery once before (index finger, last summer) and I was scared then and especially have WLS. I could've had my surgery within 8 days of that appointment because I had already started my pre-surgery diet pretty much and they were happy that I had lost weight already.

    Confused about pre-op diet

I am on day 5 of my preop diet. It is required by my doctor for all patients regardless of BMI. I was very nervous that I would be starving and cranky. I feel that this whole process is a journey and at this point it was my turn to step up and follow the program. I am not saying that I havent had moments of thinking of food. However something has come over me in the last 5 days. I feel like I am GAINING CONTROL. For the first time in 13 years I have control over food. I am down 9 points already and it could be water weight or whatever but I am in control. Dont look at the preop as a chance to fail but a real chance at success.

    Confused about pre-op diet

Lol. Starvation..not so much. It is a challenge though. The purpose of the pre-op diet is to reduce the body fat from the liver and the stomach, to shrink the liver and to overall increase the amount of Protein in your body that will help keep your muscle tissue protected once you do start to lose weight post-op. This way you're losing fat not muscle mass.
  18. I also brought up the subject of a liquid diet having read it here. Thinking it would be a two week thing. Well, he said "If you WANT to do a liquid diet then you can do HMR 500." So, yes a 500 cal. special diet that had to be purchased from the hosipital. I spent $230 and after 5 days of losing no weight (I had been losing on my own); being super obsessed with food (was not previously), and having a reaction to the shakes I gave up. I went back to my own diet. In 7.5 months I lost 52 pounds; before surgery.

    EGD...

With my insurance, there were a few things I had to have done before my doctor could do submission for surgery approval. I had to have my psych eval, 4 meetings with my nutritionist, 4 meetings with my surgeon, the EGD, and lose some weight (my insurance didn't ask for a specific amount, just weight lost). They didn't give me a specific order to do those things in, they just had to be done. I'm now pending approval from insurance. My dr does not require a two-week liquid diet preop for most of his patients. He only requires a liquid diet the day before surgery. They do recommend a high protein, low calorie, low carb diet.

  21. Well, I had my consultation with the surgeon last week. He's very kind and his staff is also good. Unfortunately, I seem NOT to be fat enough for surgery. The height my PCP and surgeon took are a solid inch apart. DAMMIT. I should have asked the surgeon to do my height again - and I will when I go back. (if I go back, that is...) He told me that it would be unethical of him to do the surgery on me with a BMI below 40. (I think I came in at 38.6.) Without a comorbid condition, I am on my own unless I gain some weight. That said, he did think that I should see the pulmonologist because he thought I might have sleep apnea based on a few answers on the questionnaire. Happily, there was an appointment about 30 minutes later since the pulm had a cancellation. I saw the pulm (also very nice and took time with me) and he thinks that there is a 75% chance that I have sleep apnea. Um. Yay me? I have been scheduled for a sleep study. I do not sleep with any humans in my bed (just cats), so I don't know if I do snore or gasp for air. Obviously, I am conflicted and quite disappointed. Without a positive diagnosis of sleep apnea, I am out on my butt. If I do have it, then I could probably qualify under my insurance. (Though my credit scores are all over 800, I simply cannot afford private pay.) Oh, and it seems that my insurance is really good (the office lady said so) and covers everything but the nutritionist. I learned so very much on this site and through others' experiences and now it may all be for naught. It is just so disappointing. Of course, I ate a whole box of donuts when I got back from my consult. :scared2: I just had to vent a little since I do not have anyone I can tell about this.
  22. Where Is Incision?

In the end once all is said and done it doesn't really matter where they start because when you are in the process of loosing weight they move. mine are not even close to where they started. Except the one center right below my breast that one has only moved south a little.
  24. I don't know about binge eating, but the head hunger is an issue. Like today for example. After about 1-2 pm I am just not hungry, but I eat stuff anyway. It could be protein, or something at least moderately nutritious or it could be M&Ms. Peanut of course. Why would I eat if I'm not really hungry? Well who knows. I'm losing weight at a decent pace and certainly like seeing the scale move downward, but still battle with the food demons in my head on a daily basis. I'm sure it will be easier as more time passes but I don't know that it will ever be gone completely. Yippie.
  25. After months of googling information, I finally decided to join this forum [emoji4] I am soooooooooo excited but very nervous bout getting the gastric bypass. I have Anthem BSBC and it requires 6 months of consecutive weigh-in attempts with my PCP. I am nervous because last month I actually gained 5lbs. Although they said I did not have to lose any weight throughout those visits, I'm afraid that will give them a reason to deny me. Can someone with Anthem insurance let me know how long it took to receive an approval? Was the process smooth for you? My patient advocate said she would send the paper work in as soon as I get the last weight attempt sheet faxed over. I really want to get approved so I can go ahead and have the surgery in January.
