  1. I used to have Gastric reflux atleast once a week. I also had a very high blood sugar. Before the Pre-op diet, My sugar had gone as high as 250 in the morning. When i first started the liquid diet (12 days before the surgery) my sugar was 167. I had my surgery on May 12th. And now my sugar in the morning range anywhere from76-100. I'm hoping that when i go in to see my regular doc she will agree that my diabetes is going into remission... Also, I had PCOS (irregular periods). Before last month, I missed my period for 9 months. Maybe it's a coincidence, but this is now the second consecutive months that i'm having my period.... So... my health totally improved! I love it!

    Triple dog sick...

I called my dr last night because I'm 2 weeks 4 days post op and I'm running fever. It goes up & down. 100.0-101.9. I have no pain anywhere at all. The dr told me if my temp went between 102-103 to go to ER but other than that to sip water & Gatorade. He asked did I follow orders or had I cheated. I told him that I could honestly say that I followed the diet without cheating at all.
  3. Just thouht I would go ahead and register here and say hello. I see LOTS of people here who I have gotten to know (passively or actively) on other boards. I am always looking for good ideas and to share the journey with others. I was banded by Dr Johnell in Colorado on 11/4/04. I have lost 30 pounds, but most of that was immediately post surgery. Since then, I have lost about 1 pound a week for the last couple of months. I have had 4 fills, and am at about 1.7 as it was measured, and I am really just getting used to having restriction.

    Losing weight too fast?

@@keljo44 I'm hoping you meant to say after losing 80lbs you now weigh 225lbs that would mean your starting weight was 305 the higher weight you start at, the more you will initially lose losing 80 lbs in 9 weeks does sound like a lot in a short time but, nothing surprises me after a few weeks people's weight loss usually slows down good luck kathy

    Pre-Surgery Diet

I was supposed to do a week of liquids. High protein shakes, sugar free jello, broth, and sugar free popsicles. I was so worried that my liver would not shrink enough that I did two weeks instead.

    Not Good At Setting Goals

I have a long term plan to simply be 5 pounds lighter than my husband!!haha that would be 165. I will be very satisfied at that. As to the short term goals to get there, I was told to think of 1-2 pounds a week AVERAGE as a realistic goal and that has proven to be a good number for me. I have had a few weeks where I have seen 4-5 pounds lost and a few where I saw nothing so it has all balanced out to that 1-2 pound average. Im half way to my goal...I have 35 more pounds to go and should be able to make that hopefully in the next 5 months.
  7. My date is July 17, I started going to a new naturopath last week. She did blood work and gave me a vitamin B12 shot. Today I went back for a vitamin cocktail IV drip, she says it will help prep my body for surgery. I will be getting another IV cocktail next week and B12 shots twice a week before I leave and back to her a week after surgery for more.. She says its going to help my body heal faster and make me feel less drained, etc. I truly feel that it is working, I feel better already. My body was waaay low on vitamins! I really hope that the prep work will make a difference and I will heal faster!!
  8. As everyone said, it is normal. I was about a week and a half out before I felt like I didn't want to sleep all the time. At this stage, you need lots of rest. When you are awake, please make sure you get up and walk and make sure you get plenty of fluids. It's pretty easy to get dehydrated early out. I felt like it was a full-time job just to get fluids in. I didn't really track my Fluid intake at the beginning, but my doctor told me my pee should be light yellow in color and I should be peeing at least 4 times a day. If either wasn't the case, I was told to drink more. Also, remember all liquids (like popsicles and broth) count toward your fluid intake. Also, a lot of people (myself included) found warm or room temperature fluids go down easier in the beginning. Best of luck to you! Take care.
  9. Despite a long wait at the hospital my surgery went well. Although I was a bit unhappy at having to wait all day for my operation I actually quite enjoyed laying around and relaxing. The nurse came at around 3pm and asked me to shower and get changed into my gown etc. At 5pm the long awaited knock on my door came. It was much better walking to theatre and I was suprised at how relaxed I was. As I entered the operating room there were around 8 people milling around. They all said hello to me, then the Doc asked me to lay on the bed, he was chatting all the time to me. He put a needle in the back of my hand then siad he was going to give me some oxygen. The next thing I knew they were waking me up in the recovery room. Ive been fitted with a small band and an initial 3ml fill. I was taken back to my room and slept like a baby! I slapt almost upright as they said it would help with the gas. The nurse kept coming in to take my blood pressure and temperature. At 5.30pm they woke me up and asked if I wanted a cup of coffee, music to my ears! I got up and had a look at my incisions. I expected my tummy to be far more bloated, but it didnt really look any different. I felt as if I had done a 1000 sit ups, other than that the pain was ok, my tummy felt hot and burning. My coffee arrived Oh the smell was bliss! I didnt know what to expect when I drank it. It didnt feel any different to before, I made an effort to drink it slowly. I was told that I was being discharged at 7am, wow they don't mess around I guess time is money to them. They then brought me a yoghurt for breakfast OH YUMMY not! I ate a little bit of it, but strawberry is not my favourite. I then drank some more coffee, big mistake! I could feel I was going to be sick and sure enough one big burp and the coffee came back up. Finally arrived home with all of my literature bit confused as to what I can eat for the next 2 weeks on my liquid only diet.

    Could Have Been Worse

Oh well, my weekly weigh in could have been worse...With me being sick and not up moving around much I will totally accept the 2.5 lbs gain...I will get that back off in no time...Of course I am not happy with it but I think my health this week was alot more important...My husband says that will can start walking as a family in the evenings for a little bit more of a workout, but we will see how that goes...I am going to atleast get back started on my afternoon workout possibly today...
  11. Hi There! I'm Jes. I'm twenty four.. from Baltimore, Maryland. I had my sleeve on December 20th, 2010. So I will be ten months out in just three dates. I started my journey at 317 pounds, day of surgery I was 292. And, today I'm at 175 pounds. To date the brings me to a total f 142 pounds lost. My original goal weight was 150 pounds. But, even then at 5'5 my BMI would be considered over weight. So at my last visit my surgeon and I jokingly agreed my new goal weight was 147. So either way you look at it I have 25lbs or 27 lbs. I started wearing a 24/26 and a 2/3 x top. I'm now in a 12/14 and a Medium top. SUPER excited. My personal goal was a 14 because I couldn't ever remember fitting into a 14. And, now they're starting to be too big.... AMAZING! I've noticed lately the only time I lose weight is when it's TOM! I was hoping to reach goal by my 1 year mark. But, at this point I'll be happy with just meeting goal in general!
  12. I just had to share this- I was sleeved on December 28, 2015. When I began the liquid diet on December 7 (I had an extra week of pre-surgery liquids, long story) I weighed 349. Today, I weigh 310. For the past few days, I have avoided my "fat jeans" as I call them, because they had become so baggy. You know the kind, the elastic waist, big baggy jeans. When I began, I had that elastic stretched to the point that, had the button cut loose and hit someone across the room, they would have thought they had been shot. No joke, they were tight. They were size 48 that the waist stretched to 52, and I was using that 52 comfort waist to the max. Like I say, I hadn't worn them for a few days because they were simply too big. So, this evening, my wife handed me a pair of my older uniform BDU style pants, size 46, and said that she had found them today in a tote full of her winter clothes. I scoffed, and said, well maybe in another 30 pounds, I can wear them. Than I thought, might as well try them and see how much I have to go to get back into my 46 pants. THEY FIT! Holy cow y'all, they actually FIT! I knew I was losing inches, my clothes had been showing it, but I haven't been able to wear those BDU pants (military style pants, for those who do not know the term), for a couple of years! That was my motivation to keep exercising every day and following my diet! Sorry for the long winded post, carry on!
  13. Good for you for being so close to goal! You and I are close to the same weight (I'm 3 pounds more) so I appreciate how hard the last little bit is. I have been stuck between 166-168 for almost 3 weeks and it's driving me crazy. Just this week I increased my exercise and decreased my calories, so hopefully that will do the trick. Your list of goals sounds great- good luck- you can do this!

    Stuck

My first week I lost 10 pounds then the other 2 weeks I lost 1-2 pounds each week. Don't weight yourself so much, try once a week. And remember, you may not be losing pounds because you are gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat) and losing inches. You're doing fine as long as you keep up with the post-op diet and exercise. + Pounds Already?

Hi. I was sleeved June 8. I was down (pre-and post-op) from 310 to 282. Then the last 3 days I've gained weight. Now I'm 286. I have my one week follow up appointment today, but should I be concerned about weight gain? I'm following their instructions and diet... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight loss?

#1 I know your meals sound just fine and cals presumably low, but I would love to see the caloric breakdown. #2 You admitted you were less active. Remember, wl= calories in - calories burned. If your calories in is constant and you decreased cals burned than expect less wl or even a gain. #3 Being back to work as an RN can be taxing. Fatigue unto itself burns calories. Don't overlook the possibility you may indeed be more active than you realize and require more calories. Again, back to #1 what are you currently intaking? With the above info we can better discern which correction is more likely necessary. However, I do want to iterate that losing more than 2 lbs per week is not the goal. I always tell people that setting sensible expectations makes this journey more rewarding. Setting yourself up with insensible goals that cannot be maintained will only reinforce feelings of failure. SLOW and steady!

    Weight loss?

Thank you all. I am SO GRATEFUL I've lost 1-2 this week. I just wanted to make sure that's ok. I can probably guarantee I am grossly under cals. I take it at most 800 a day which is a gross over estimate. I don't get anywhere close to the 50-60g of Protein with what I'm eating. My md doesn't want me drinking Protein shakes because they are "liquid calories". Also my nutritionist first want me focusing on cal right now since I'm grossly below. She said to more focus on that when I'm eating and have adjusted post op. I try so hard to eat more protein but I'm full and do not want to push it. So I stop when I'm "done" and not "full". The process begins. This months goal, focus a million x's more on working out beyond work hustle and bustle and my volleyball league. It's a marathon and I'm excited for it.

    Late In Starting My Blog

:rolleyes2: Well, I should have started this blog 2 years ago when I was banded, but alas, I didn't. I was banded March 31, 2006. I started @ 250#, lowest point has been 188, back up to 206. I had some issues w/ my band about 8 months ago or so. Something got stuck which started the awful PB cycle, swelling etc...anyway, it got to the point where anything I ate was coming back up. So I had some fluid removed. I really don't remember how much was taken out but I went down to 1.8 cc on a 10 cc medium band. So....here I am about 8 months later and almost 20# heavier because I DIDNT follow the band guidelines. I got lazy. I have to really stop and think.. OK I went through this major surgery to get healthy and now what am I doing! So, I went back to Dr. Snow last week and got a fill to 2.1 cc. So far so good. Feeling the restriction, no complications. Today is Super Bowl Sunday and my fill was on Wednesday. So, in 5 days I'm down 3 pounds. I am happy. I am again getting on track. I am going to start blogging regularly (hopefully) just as an accountability measure for myself and to have emotional release. Also, because if anyone chooses to read this blog I want to have a positive impact on someone else who has been banded. Being overweight is torture for the mind, body and soul. I am not a vain person. I just want to be healthy. So, the journey begins again..........Stay tuned!
  19. Yep, I was banded by Dr Snow. Soon after the banding with plication, he was impossible to get into see. He kept cancelling his appts hours ahead of the appointment. Did this three times to me. I started going to Forest Park Medical Center for my fills because, well, he is absolutely inaccessible. Does not return phone calls, etc. Just wound up in the ER because of my band, and he was inaccessible. Not surprised at all. Of course, the dr in the ER refused to touch my band and referred me back to Dr Snow. I try to get into see him, and instead got referred to the true results office in the room next to his. For someone with a band slip who hasn't eaten in days, I would have expected my surgeon to show some kind of concern. At this point, I'm looking for a surgeon who will "adopt" my case, but the search for one has been discouraging to say the least unless I want a complete revision. His aftercare is horrid and scary...
  20. I am able to eat scrambled eggs and mash potatoes one week post-op. They said as long as tolerated. I am not a week post -op yet. I must be swollen still because i do feel restriction. I can also have cream of wheat and yogurt. You should be fine.
  21. Hi. I am almost three months post out. For the most part I can get my fluids in and my Proteins, but I have had hardly no veggies or fruits. There just isn't room in my tiny tummy. But I've very constipated even with taking colace. Nurse told me today to add Metamucil. Any recommendations on how to start adding vegetables into my day? Please no pinto or black Beans (too much gas)! I am tempted to buy a nutri bullet and to make shakes/smoothies and add unflavored Protein to it. Thanks!!

    Tired

I have been tired tired tired for about a week and a half to two weeks. Hardly able to keep my eyes open, kind of tired. Surgery date was Dec 28. I began taking B-12 on January 28, the sub lingual, quick dissolve pills 5000mcg Natures' Bounty brand. I'm not sure that the B-12 has anything to do with my lack of energy or not. I went from power walking religiously nearly every day and going to the gym 3-4 days a week and hitting the weights, to not having the energy or will power to do the power walks. I'm still hitting the gym 3-4 times a week, but it is a real struggle. With the amount of protein I take in each day, it looks like I would have energy to spare. What gives? Just my body going through all the changes in relatively rapid order? Or should I try B-12 monthly injections instead of the OTC pills?

Holy Crap! Nsv's 1 Week Post Op!

I was wondering how you are doing a week out? Have you had any complications?

    First time

Glad you joined us. I had my surgery 8 weeks ago today. I've lost 40 pounds and already feel like a new person. I'm sleeping better, walking with less pain, have more energy, and am off all prescription medications! The first advice I would offer you is to stay connected to the members of this board and you will have a wonderful resource for getting information and making your sleeve a great experience. Second, plan to take it easy as much as possible after your surgery, I felt tired and weak for several weeks. Don't try to eat too much too soon--follow the plan. Liquids may seem like forever, but they aren't, and being conservative with your food choices will allow your stomach time to heal. Take your time and get lots of fluids. I love my sleeve!
  25. They are so correct....try everything you can to stay away from carbs..you want stay full long at all and that will just cause the grazing. A fill shouldn't be done until you are at lease 6 weeks out. So hang in there. Get some yogurt and add some unflavored protien...you will be suprised how long that keeps you full. Hang in there...
