    June 2015 sleevers

I was sleeved on June 9th. I was 239 on surgery day, but my high weight was 244. I weigh 212 as of this morning. Nausea is gone. food is simply fuel, and I don't (often) think of it as my best buddy. That said, I do sometimes miss how it feels to tuck in to a hot hoggie. I bought one for my husband the other day, and pulled out three slices of sliced meat and a bit of melted cheese. It satisfied the craving and I did not feel deprived. I take Biotin and Vitamin D along with my multi vitamin daily. I have an antacid to take with meals. I still get tired from time to time, but know I just need to rest when my body tells me to. No dragon breath yet. I'm wondering when ketosis will kick in. To keep active, I've been doing a lot of yard work and household chores along with walking. I will join the gym this fall when school starts. My husband tells me I no longer snore. My first NSV! Stepping way out of my comfort zone, I booked my first ever massage for July 29th. I've always been too self-conscious to do it before, but now I figure - get over it!~ I'm really looking forward to it.

    September's Chat

Wow! I can't beleive how much posting has gone on in the last five days! You guys have been busy! I have to get to the whole "work" thing - but I wanted to let you all know that I am alive and well. Had a great vacation - except I ate everything in the universe and am afraid to step on the scale... We had a fabulous time seeing the grandkids - adorable even though they are 8 & 9 and a little bit of hell on wheels... We went to the zoo, two aquariums, and spent far too much time at places like the Main Event & Speed Zone. I think a Grand time was had by all - and while I was thrilled to have them, I was thrilled when they left as well. I still don't have the energy for children... although I did have an NSV of sorts while they were here. Tanner was being an 8 yr old boy - and I was playing with him - and I actually RAN after him through the house one day... without really thinking about it - I ran. Now, I can't tell you when the last time that I RAN was - when I wasn't late for a plane connection or something. It freaked me out a little bit... and my DH commented on my energy level too. We rode the local commuter train into town rather than taking two cars - so we walked a lot - and he said I was walking too fast a lot of the time and wearing him out. So - now I guess I have to get back on plan - and get back to work on the weightloss, body size thing. Well, I am already past due to return from lunch - I will try to check in again soon. Love to all!! Irene
  3. Yesterday I went for a 1 mile walk. Then a few hours later I took my 2 year old niece for about a 1/4 mile walk around our subdivision to look at lights. She was waving and blowing kisses to all the blow up characters. When I got home I cried. 3 months ago I never would have entertained doing something like this because I would have been so tired and wouldn't have had the energy. Last night have me more motivation to keep pushing forward because that simple walk told me if I don't succeed I am going to be missing out on a lot of awsome things. We have a littlw ice cream parlor that is only open during summer and I need to get ready to take my baby girl for walks ao she can get her ice cream cones this summer

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

2 NSV's this month. I went and bought specifically Levy jeans so I could have the 34W tag visible on them:blushing:. Sunday I finished my first 1/2 marathon 5 minutes faster than I thought I might. I'm still feeling good about that one.

How's this for a NSV? I had to adjust the car's rearview mirror. It was pointing too high. As my tushie is not as substantial anymore, it seems I'm not sitting as high in the seat. And I too am working my way towards the right side in my closet. Put on a pair of jeans I haven't worn in months and months.

I tell you that honestly I think the NSV are bigger then the SV are. When other people are noticing your weight loss and are saying something about it that is such a moral booster. When you go to put on those clothes that were tight and now they are loose again another great moral booster. Of course I am still monitoring my blood pressure closely with today being my first day off of the bood pressure meds and it's going great so far. But another NSV is purely the feeling of wanting to get out of the house to be active. This morning my wife, son, and I just went for a walk for the pleasure and not specifically for the exercise!!!
  9. 199!!! Wheww….sitting here kinda in a daze ….you go into this hoping that it is the right thing to do…and pretty soon you are losing 10, 20, 30 pounds and you are saying…wow..it is like a dream. I sit here with tears in my eyes…I am below 200 pounds for the first time since 1984, when I was 19 years old. I made so many broken promises to myself…you know the ones…when I get x weight, I am really going to start getting serious about losing weight and you just keep raising the limit until you get up to 270 pounds and at 5’1…I was looking pretty bad. I can say in all honesty that things are starting to turn around! ffice:office" /><O:p></O:p> So here are all the good things that have happened since I got my miraculous band: <O:p></O:p> I lost 71 pounds so far in a little less than 6 months, as well as hitting that goal before my birthday, which is coming up this month. <O:p></O:p> I have lost 52 inches all over my body. <O:p></O:p> I now weigh less than my husband…now I am aiming to weigh less than my ex..I now know that is an achievable goal! I have 3 sizes and teetering on another. I feel better and my feet and ankles have stopped swelling. Although my feet are a little swollen today of course. My sleep apnea is now almost non-existent. <O:p></O:p> Too many NSV’s to clog up this thread with. <O:p></O:p> I am listening to my band and paying attention to it more and more and working on listening to my head less and less when it comes to eating and hunger at least. Gosh I could go on and on. <O:p></O:p> <O:p></O:p> Some negatives to balance out all this nauseating sweetness. <O:p></O:p> The hanging skin is downright ugly and a full body lift is in my future…no doubt. <O:p></O:p> I went from a 46D to a 45A..what the hell is up with that???<O:p></O:p> I still fight head-hunger everyday…I thought that after almost after 6 months..it would get easier…the battle continues. <O:p></O:p> <O:p></O:p> I want to say a big THANK YOU to everybody on this board who has given me wonderful advice and suggestions since I joined this forum. Ya’ll have made the journey so much easier for me, than it would have been alone. I also want to thank my band buddy, Kira(Bridget) for all her support and advice. I saved the best for last, I also want to give a big hug and thank you to my DDH for standing by me through all of this and being my rock. Ok now on to the next big milestone!!! J Onederland rocks!!!!!<O:p></O:p>
  10. I know I'm getting in here late, and probably too far along in this discussion, BUT.... I agree and disagree with the cost of plus size clothing for men and women. First off, it does cost the manufacturers more for the fabric and labor. Secondly, I think it highly depends on where you shop to see a discrepancy between the cost of regular sizes and plus sizes. For example, Lane Bryant and Torrid are very pricy stores. This could be equivalent to a Ann Taylor Loft or White House Black Market for smaller women. The problem comes in to play that plus size men and women don't have the less expensive clothing store options, for example, like an Old Navy (with the exception of shopping online). And that brings me to another point, why is it that plus sized people are inherently forced to shop online if they want selection? Matt Z is right, the men's section is slim to none as well. Why is it that the plus size section at Target is TINY and mixed into maternity, that is even TINER? Don't these retail stores know that the average US woman is a size 16. And don't get me started about undergarments for large women. When you can't find your bra size anywhere but Lane Bryant and have to pay $50+ for one, GIVE ME A BREAK...I mean unless you want to order bras online, *rolling my eyes again* Needless to say, no longer being a plus size woman is the BIGGEST NSV there is. I'm glad I don't have to struggle with which stores will have my size, or pay extra for those clothing options.

    August Summer Challenge

So I was sad on Wed because the scale wasn't moving, but then my future mother in law measured me over the weekend for a refitting of my dress and she discovered I lost 2 inches in the belly and 2 inches in the hips! Yay for NSVs!

Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In

Howdy September Sleevers!!! Another week... another check in!! I wonder where everyone is? It would be nice to see more posting here. Even if you can only post certain NSV's or just anything - all of it is GOOD and worthy of note!! Hey Julia, no big deal. I only lost one single pound this last week as well. Boy I've been really REALLY on point these last few days and was hoping and hoping for at least another to show up, but nooo... LOL It's ok - I'm 100% back on track now after the Holidays which I won't lie, I'm very glad to FINALLY be past them. I really need to make sure I hit goal before next September rolls around!!! It's always been so hard for me to be good and lose weight, much less maintain during this time of year. So that was me, I lost one pound, which is great!!! But the super good news is I'm back on track and feeling VERY determined. I had some awesome NSV's over this weekend so that one pound loss was added to other things. I'm just *this* close to fitting a pair of pants I haven't fitted in since I was a teenager! WOW!!! I just LOVE MY SLEEEEEVEEEE!!!!!!!! Until next week SS'ers!!!

That tunafish could taste so unbelievably good and that I could get full on half a cup of it!!!!!!!!! I broke the rules by 12 hours and had my first food (mushy) tonight. My tastebuds were dancing!!!!!!!!!!! You would have thought I was eating steak! I did take my time and ate as slowly as I could for being famished LOL. I chewed chewed and chewed until it was completely pulverized, and then I would wait periodically to see how I felt before proceeding. I stopped at about a half a cup and I probably could have had more but I didn't want to push it especially my first meal. Tomorrow morning before we go on our charity ride I will have an egg, two if I can get it down. Again, I don't want to push it, especially right before going on a ride. I also had an NSV! We went by Open Road Leathers to look for some new chaps for me as my old ones (the ones I bought in November!) were getting way loose on me, especially around the legs. Now, you have to know that they don't size chaps like regular clothes. Don't know why but they run WAY small. So the chaps I got in November were 6X (ugh) despite the fact that I was actually 2X at the time. Well, today I got into 4X chaps!!! Two whole sizes! I purposely got them nice and tight so that I would be able to wear them for a while before having to get another pair when I lose more weight. I normally wouldn't even bother getting something like this until I have lost all my weight but I wear my chaps even during the summer as it keeps the engine heat from burning my legs. Oh! I took off the steri strips on the three small incisions today. They were starting to come off anyway and they were annoying me. One of them probably wasn't quite ready to come off but I just put Neosporin on it and covered it with a bandaid. It will be fine in a couple of days. The other two, my port and the big blob of cotton in my belly button are under waterproof tape and okay like they are. Dr. Cywes wanted them to stay on for two weeks. I'll see what those look like then. I did a lot of running around today, brushed down the pool, washed my motorcycle, did a load of laundry, emptied the dishwasher, pulled some weeds and stuff. So I am definitely feeling back to my normal self with the exception of some isolated and periodic soreness in the muscles where my port is. I'm very excited about eating real food again. I can't even begin to explain! I feel like my journey has really begun today. I am starting to eat like a bandster and lead the bandster way of life!
  14. Congrats on this NSV. Enjoy this achievement you deserve it!!

I'm Eating. At 1 Am This Morning. Wth?!

My hunger varies by day and I've asked other naturally thin people and they agree, this is quite normal. When I look at my calories on MFP I see not a flat line, but rather a sinusoidal curve. So I wouldn't worry about the odd days up because they seem to be followed by fewer calorie days. Very. Ew for me. Previously if I was on a diet,I was starving! And you can bet I ate very damn calorie I was allowed. Now, if seems more a function of true hunger rather than anything else. Wonderful NSV in some ways

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

Congratulations on your NSV! I just reached a point where I can buy clothes in stores with a plus size dept and it's exciting! I've been reduced to buying online and accepting whatever could fit for so long, that it's now so much fun to go to Lane Byrant or Nordstroms and walk in and get to choose things that look good on me or make me feel good! I also just made it to zulily sizes 22/24 so now I have a new favorite online store. such a big change from the 32/34 I was wearing in July!

NSV - Shopping at a Regular Store

Inner Surfer Girl and everyone else who had a similar NSV…congratulations! Being able to do those “normal” things that other people don’t even think about is just so wonderful. It makes life so much sweeter. And I bet you all look and feel fantastic in those smaller, more fashionable clothes! Dub, Congratulations to you, too. As much as I love being smaller, though, I have to say I’ve never learned to love shopping. Enjoy it, though! You deserve it!

What are you looking for in a support group?

When I first attended a bariatric surgery support group meeting, I almost decided to not have the surgery. Almost everyone in the group recited horror story after horror story. Then I reasoned that the main reason for this is that either the people attending the support group meeting are pre surgery or they are the individuals that are experiencing severe post surgery problems. The individuals that are free of any complications just do not feel a need to attend support group meetings. That is not the case now. The whole flavor of our support group is different. But the tone of the meetings is very important. I think it is important to first identify the general goals of the meeting: Provide advice to those who are about to undergo the process. Help those that have undergone surgery and experienced complications to resolve their problems. Share information Discuss individual success stories both in terms of weight loss and NSVs. I like to bring in something for show and tell at each meeting. People get excited about show and tell. Sharing a before and after picture is a good visual for the success of the surgery.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Dang 60?? Great job Molly!!! It's so hard to get the protein and fluids in don't u think?!!! And I agree with the other gal who said it's hard to do when u r so busy at work! I'm constantly busy so I forget to drink sometimes! Holidays aren't too bad. I prob had more cheese than I should have at thanksgiving and I had a few glasses of wine so I did cheat. But I didn't eat dinner that night. We will see how Christmas goes! On Christmas at my boyfriends family we do appetizers and it's my fav so I might struggle with that. I don't miss soda but I miss fast food, potatoes, bagels, rice. It's gonna be a long life lol!! But I have had a lot of NSV's so I know this will all be worth it. So how are u gonna increase your protein?? They want us to have lots of fruits and veggies but they have no protein! So today I had veggies for lunch and dinner but then I only got 59 grams of protein in. And I even had a shake. Ugh

    For Just Us Guys

Had a NSV today (and officially, down 70 lbs!) Went to take my first flying lesson today, and part of the drill is setting the weight and balance for the plane. I tell the instructor I'm at 205 (throwing in clothes etc), and he just kinda stops for a second. He asks me if I'm sure, and I said "yes" (thinking -- damn, I'm still a fatass). He looks again and says "Ok, but I had you pegged at 185" Hurrah!
  21. Good Luck October Bandsters!!!! You have so much to look forward to....a healthier life full of lots of SV's and NSV's! Life is GOOD when you're banded....I pray for each and every one of you a speedy recovery!!!

November Nymphs Lets Talk Weight Loss!

OK...I love you NYMPHS..I truly do but as I write this I am in a state of depression over the lack of love from my PATS. I will give my kudos to the Giants they played a great game. The best team did win IMO. Watch out for next year, you can't keep a good team down. This is great fuel for next year and Belicheck will use it to his advantage. Can we say pit in my stomach for all 4 quarters. I never did feel confident that we were going to win; except maybe in the last 2.5 minutes of the game. I can't talk about it anymore to depressing; just want to forget. As for another NSV moment. I lost 3lbs from Sunday to Tuesday and all because of the PATS loss. This Superbowl loss was good for my weightloss. Love you guys, Cindy

What's an NSV? I know the feeling of feeling good! and surprised... I pulled out some clothes I had sadly put away in a suitcase because they didn't fit anymore and were hardly worn ... got out the suitcases ready for my vacation and came across these clothes and tried them on! and they fit better than when I put them away! Whoooooooot! how happy am I? All new gear for my vacation and didn't have to buy any! Ah just found it.Non scale Victory!
  24. There are some good ones here. I can't really think of a NSV for the fall and I have been trying. I have knee high and thigh boots that will be too large pretty soon, but I won't be at goal this fall to buy new ones. I feel like being not so far out from surgery winter is mainly going to suck with all my clothes/boots being too big.

May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

Marci - I love that you could get your 18's on...lying down to zip and all! It doesn't seem so painful when the pants you are trying to get in are smaller than the ones you are in...LOL! I had a laugh myself this past week...the 22's that were finally comfortable slipped off with unzipping or unbuttoning...WOO HOO! I, of course, called my daughter to brag! She had bypass over a year ago and is a svelte size 10 but since the 22's were once hers, she got a laugh out of it too! I'm not sure what a "NSV" is - I can never find the place to look that stuff up...maybe I had a NSV too!
