    Heartburn after Allurion Balloon

Hi everyone, I had the balloon fitted 5 days ago. Like everyone else here, the experience so far has been pretty grim. My main issues have been dehydration and severe nausea. Dehydration simply because for the first 3 days I couldn't even keep water down. Omeprazol has definitely helped with the heartburn. I am now looking forward to the journey. Good luck everyone🙂
  2. Hello i am one week post op i was just wondering why should we wait 30 minutes to drink water after eating what would be the side effects if i drank water while eating ?
  3. I am a 2x revision patient, starting with LapBand in 2011, followed by VSG in 2019 due to severe Lapband complications, and finally GBP in 2021 after even more complications with the VSG. I have been fighting the good fight for ELEVEN YEARS now, and trust me when I say I was so ready to give up many times during the process, but I am so glad that I never did! I am officially down 152 lbs, and have been maintaining within 3-4 lbs since Feb 2022. I am to the point that I am ready to start looking into plastics. After so many years of fighting to get to where I am, I love the way I look and feel.... when I'm fully dressed. But seeing all the loose skin is a hard mental hit every single time. All the work, tears, pain, determination.... it all feels like it's for nothing when I see the destruction it all left behind. After a lot of research on various options, I am heavily leaning towards the Beltline procedure due to the amount of work that will need to be done. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would love to hear all about it! Pros, cons, horror stories, success stories... I want it all!

    Reflux 2 days post op

Oh I am so sorry you’re having this experience! I’m glad you have more benefits than cons from having op though. I hear reflux is manageable with the right intervention. So far I’m now at day 10 post op- after about 2-3 days my reflux disappeared. I didn’t need the hernia repair thankfully. I think I was just reacting to the initial surgery and taking in liquids again.. I still have another 2.5 weeks of the pantoprazole meds t on hell with staple healing and hoping after that the reflux stays at bay. I really hope you glean get the reflux under control. Good luck!

    No Weight loss

I would just say make sure you increase your calories to around 1200, switch up your exercises once in a while, watch the sugars because they can definitely slow weight loss, keep protein between 70-90g per day, watch the fats (and try to have the majority you consume as healthy fats), reduce caffeine if possible, avoid carbonation, definitely keep fluids up. And after all that, just give it time, have patience, and really pay attention to your NSVs (Non Scale Victories). Those are keeping me sane right now during my VERY long and annoying stall.

    Food confusion

I’m 3 days post up and my doctor put me on a Protein only (soft, mushy, and/or finely chopped) diet. I was able to tolerate water and chicken broth okay at the hospital. I had a little nausea but did not vomit. In fact, the PA called me yesterday and asked me to try tuna with Mayo to see how my stomach tolerates it. If it does not tolerate it then she asked me to try something else. Every doctor is different. The booklet and docs they provided us with is just general information but your doctor post op will tell you what diet they would like for you to follow.

    May Surgeries - check in!

@james2021 thanks so much for reaching out and way to go on your achievement!! You've lost more than 1/3 of your starting weight. Starting again is always more challenging than staying the course, but being conscious and honest about it is crucial. I've been hovering in the same weight range for a couple months now as well and am at the stage where even a single pound lost is worth celebrating. I struggle with getting enough protein (especially in the morning), avoiding carbs, and moving my body, which are old habits that got me to nearly 300 pounds. Sound familiar? I have a surgery on my right foot two days before Thanksgiving, so I'll be non-weight bearing for a couple months... and unable to drive. I'll be spending my winter/holidays healing and a big part will be to eat healthfully. Let's do this together! Let me know what you're doing toward your health and wellbeing. Won't it be great to spend next Spring and Summer feeling strong and amazing? Let's do this!

    Exercise

Hello hope everyone is doing well … so it’s been 9 weeks since surgery and I’m now wondering how people are doing with exercise? I haven’t started but I am very active throughout my day . My levels of energy has been low lately but I’m thinking it’s because I don’t feel like I’m meeting all my goals and there are times when I’m confused on if I’m eating enough or drinking enough. I don’t feel like I’ve lost any weight and it is discouraging but trying to fight past this feeling . Thanks

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello! I'm glad to have found this forum. I'm scheduled for surgery Nov. 10th. Can't believe it's less than a week away - I'm nervous, excited, and ready to be done with the pre-op diet! Good luck to everyone, I'm looking forward to going through this journey together.

    September surgery buddies

Hello, I'm a Sept. 12 Sleever The first time I mentioned bariatric surgery everyone nay sayed me... This time I didn't tell anyone but my husband, I told the others about a week prior and they were all actually very supportive this time. I think the adverse effects frightened them the first time, but as I spoke casually with them about the minute severe outcomes and the highly positive ones, I believe it help settle their nerves... Plus, I was absolutely ready this time and nothing was going to stop me, I needed it for my health before all else!!! I have joined multiple sites for bariatric patients on FB for a wide range of support systems.
  14. Hey folks, I have 3 different trips coming up and would love your suggestions for food while traveling? I'm about 6 weeks out and have no food restrictions, though I obviously can't eat all that much yet. I'm mostly focused on protein, with some good carbs and fats mixed in where I can. One trip is by car ~ 9 hours each way, 5 days total. This one has me worried about what to eat on the drive days other than stuff like yogurt and protein drinks? I can probably stop and pick up food if needed, but this is through mostly rural areas and options are pretty limited. The other days I'll be in a hotel room with a kitchenette and will have good access to grocery stores and restaurants. I expect I'll be able to eat more normally on those days. The next trip is an overnighter by plane. I may live mostly on protein bars for this one unless anyone has any good suggestions? Unfortunately, no kitchenette this time, so I'm mostly stuck with what I can bring on the plane, what I can find ready-to-eat at grocery or convenience stores, or eating out. The final one is 4 days, again by plane. Different city than trip 2, but should have good access to stores & restaurants. Again, no kitchenette, so no cooking.

    Keto

Every surgeon has a different post-op diet. Luckily, my current surgeon's diet philosophy is similar to my own. My post-op was and still is a balanced diet with tons of fruits and veggies. After 8 weeks, the basics of my diet is to get my adequate protein, 7 to 13 servings of fruit/veggies a day, 20 to 50g good fat, and good carbohydrates (about 50% of my calories are from carbs).

    Reflux 2 days post op

I did not get reflux, but my doctor has me taking the anti-acid pill for 30 days, sleeping with a wedge pillow (approx 30% lift) and I can not eat/drink within 3 hours of bed time.

    What does full feel like?

I’m about 6 weeks post op from a band to sleeve revision- I’m wondering what full feels like for most with the sleeve? I notice it feels different and usually I’ll hiccup or burp and that’s a signal I’ve been reading. Looking for guidance tho from successful people out there!
  18. Had my 6 month post op appt on Wednesday. Went FANTASTIC, but still in this stupid stall. Officially 3 weeks on Wednesday. So so annoying. Really ready to have it break so I can get on with it. Have to get bloodwork done, but all vitals and stats look excellent. Happy with my progress and my NSVs and my improved health. My dietician told me to keep my calories between 1100 - 1200 per day and add 2 days of weight training to my workout routine. I was doing light weights and cardio 5 days per week and she said to add the weight training to the 2 days I'm not working out. She said my diet and drinks and Snacks are all good, the amount and frequency I'm eating are good. So hopefully this will help. Today was my first day doing it. This stall is just driving me nuts. She also said if I get to 5 weeks, it's considered a plateau at that point and not a stall anymore. And then there's different things I would need to do if I'm in a plateau. Hope it doesn't get to that. I know stalls are normal, but I haven't even lost 100 pounds yet, and I'm nowhere near my goal, so slowing down this much at this point is really frustrating. Just gonna keep on keepin on until the stall breaks and the scale makes me happy again.

    Stalls and weight gain

I am 7 weeks post op and am going through a stall. I had no idea they existed until I read about them on this forum. It's extremely frustrating knowing you are doing everything right but the scales aren't moving. I've lost 14kgs since surgery so I'm happy with that 24kgs all up but I really do get your frustration. Going to see my dietician next week and see what she says. I also weigh myself every few days don't think I'm doing myself any favours though Sent from my SM-S906E using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. I just started purees, yesterday. But, I had zero restriction with fluids. I can drink water and protein shakes pretty quickly. I could be wrong, but I think potatoes are slider foods. That would explain why you can eat them without much restriction. Maybe try something higher in protein, like cottage cheese. I'm about 2.5 weeks post-op gastric bypass and I can eat 1/4 cup of egg salad (egg, mayo, mustard, salt, onion powder). I can probably only eat about 1/8 cup of ricotta bake - my stomach starts to hurt - I assume it's the acid in the spaghetti sauce. Most people have restriction after surgery, but not everyone does. That's why it's so important for us to learn healthy habits. I got a 30-second sand timer to use between bites of food. And I also eat with baby spoons, to make sure I take smaller bites. Eventually, I do feel full, but not before I stop eating. Just like before surgery, my satiety cues are delayed. Because I can't rely on my body to tell me that I need to stop, I have to be very careful about measuring out my food. My nutritionist says I should be eating between 1/4 and 1/2 cup over the next 2 weeks, so that's what I'm doing.
  21. Hello, on Sept 14th I had a revision from the lap-band to the Gastric Sleeve. Pre-surgery liquid diet I went from 235 to 212 on the liquid diet for about 10 days. I have only lost a total of 2 pounds, and I am 7 weeks out. I am very frustrated at this point. I am doing everything I am supposed to be doing. I could walk a little more, but other than that I am only consuming around 800 calories a day. I am not comprehending the science of this. I burn around 1600 calories a day, so why am I not losing weight? I do need to mention that I am going through menopause and had to go off of my hormones for 4 weeks after surgery but have been back on them now for 3 weeks. I was also diagnosed with a under-active thyroid about 9 months ago and am on 25MG of thyroid medication. I am at the point where I just feel no matter what I do I am not going to lose. Has anyone else experienced no weight loss right after surgery and how long did it last? I am trying to stay positive, and everyone keeps telling me not to pay attention to the scale, but I am a numbers person. I absolutely dread going to my next dietician appointment in two and half weeks because my last one which was my first post op appointment, she told me I should be losing more than 2 pounds in one month. I guess I just need to know if others have experienced this. I am about ready to give up.

Able to drink and eat like normal?

If the fluids were warm, I could drink like normal from day 1. If they were cold, I had to sip until about 3 weeks out. Took longer for my stomach to tolerate cold drinks.

    Goal Weight?

I'm 6 months out and have been stuck in a stall a little over 3 weeks now. I'm not even halfway to my goal yet.
