    Stuck!

I had my surgery three years ago and usually I do pretty well with it. I have been seriously stuck once and had to go to my doctor and get an unfill to let it pass. I got my surgery in Phoenix in high school. I am now a freshman in college three hours away, and I have had something stuck for about three days. I tried meat tenderizer yesterday because I think it was a part of a roast that got stuck. That didn't work. So I'm wondering if anyone has any other tips for something that's been stuck for awhile. Should I keep trying to meat tenderizer? Maybe it takes multiple tries to break it down? Or does anyone know any good doctors in Tucson that could help me? It's really painful and I hate being away from my doctor. Help please!

    Undecided and Nervous

i'm 2.5 years post-op and i have to be honest with you... in the beginning it's hard. right after your surgery (the first 2 weeks or so) you won't be hungry at all and it will seem impossible to get in all the required Protein but as your stomach heals after the surgery, your hunger will return and since your band will not be filled you will enter what is known as "Bandster Hell" because you're banded but have no restriction and all the familiar hunger pains will be there. you might not lose any weight the first month after surgery so that can bring on depression. after a fill or 2 you'll feel the restriction and that's when the work really begins... for me, one of the the hardest parts has been knowing when to stop eating. your band will tell you when its had enough but your brain tells you to keep eating because it tastes SO good. if you listen to the band, you'll be fine. if you listen to your brain, you'll throw up. the second hardest parts is dealing with the foods your band will no longer tolerate. for me, i can no longer eat bread... which includes pizza (my most favorite food EVER). i also can't eat hamburger or popcorn... other favorite foods. after time, you learn to adapt your eating habits. while i can't eat the bread from the pizza but i can eat the cheese and toppings which is the best part anyway. i still crave burgers and get extremely jealous when a friend or family member orders one but i don't like the consequence i have to face if i DO try to eat one. you become so much more in tune with your body that its amazing. i went from wearing baggy mostly black clothes to proudly showing off my curves with bold colors. i love the compliments i get. i love shopping now! i love feeling healthy which makes me HAPPY! it's a difficult journey but my happiness is worth it!

    Partners in Crime?

I had my surgery Dec 1st and my husband had his March 30. I am glad we did not have it at the same time as the first few weeks he was able to help me get up and around and for him I was able to drive and support him when he had some dizzy spells. We had lifting restrictions and even bending over to pick up and fold laundry really hurt during the first 4 weeks for me so he did housework when I was recuperating and I was able to do it when he was recuperating. I would personally recommend that it would be a least 30 days apart so that you can help each other in case of emergencies do do lifting or driving if needed. Once you both get to the same stage of food it will be wonderful. We are now cheap dates in splitting a lot of meals when we got out. Congrats on both making the decision to have the surgery, you will not regret it!
  5. I am going on a three day girls trip in September and I should be in the 6-7 week po range. What foods do you suggest I take? I know I'll be in the soft foods stage and I will have a mini fridge in the hotel. My concern is that we won't always be in the hotel, we will be seeing shows and museums so I need to have stuff I can carry along with me. Thanks for any ideas that you have!

    Plication Lapband Fills

I had lap band with plication about 3 months ago and I have lost 37 pounds since then. I am so glad I got the plication I have only had one fill and it was at my 6 week appt. I only have .5 cc in my band and I don't feel like I need another fill yet. I'm losing at a great pace and my meals keep me satisfied. :-) i love my lap band with plication
  7. Well, this is the first day of my pre-op diet. I have to have 4-5 meal replacement shakes per day, and 1-2 meal bars. I am also allowed to have jell-o, popsicles and chicken broth if I get hungry. I have to do this for two weeks! I had to give myself a little pep talk today! I CAN do this!:tt1:

Slippage & erosion seems very frequent.

I went to the fill center yesterday after a night of horrible reflex. Yep, my band had slipped. The previous week I have a stomach virus and did thow up. That did it. I was advised to stay on liquids for 1 week and mushies the following week. All of my fill was removed and this should correct the problem. I already feel 100% better. Would I do it all over again, I mean get the lap band? Absolutely! The fills can be a difficult thing to get just right, but my blood pressure was 127/72 and I feel very healthy other than this minor set back.

    Update time

So I was sleeved on June 24th and I am very happy with where I am at and the progress am now 102 lbs from my highest weight which was 2 weeks before surgery and now 85 lbs since surgery Today I went to the gym and did 4 miles in 52 minutes on the treadmill feel more energy and so much better I do travel a lot so getting all my Protein in on the road is at times a challenge, but I am still learning and doing better and as I said all along, I was not going to go crazy on this strict food plan - i wanted to be realistic and practical, smart and yet not deny those things that i like but thanks to the tool really control my portions. so, I do eat a halloween size pack of Peanut M&Ms every now and then - so yes all 6-7 of them little candies - the old days it would been a whole pack I have had a bratwurst (no bun) at a football game I have had pizza ( mostly just the toppings and very little of the crust and its a thin crust) - if i have 2 slices of toppings that is a lot - compared to used to eating a WHOLE pie I do have the Skinny Cow 100 cal fudgesicle most nights when at home sometimes for Breakfast I have 2 slices of Cracker Barrel Cheeses (individually packaged so very nice) with a 100 cal Pack of Goldfish (nut said crackers were good to help with nausue on occasion from Chewable Multi-Vitamens and my biggest bad thing - I will drink diet soda - i get the small can 7 1/2 oz and drink slowly - used to drink 6-10 full 12 oz cans a day I do drink through a straw in public and yes at a restaurant i get soda and small sips when eating, but i have never emptied a glass So i am not perfect, but I am doing well and making progress, i could see how i could go backwards, but the portion controls is huge and I am eating so so so much better and working out so so so much more Used to wear a size 50-52 w pants and now i am doing 44-46 shirts were a 5XL and now 3Xls are almost to big Goodwill got 4 huge bags of clothes!!

    slippage

Ok this is the story, I am three years out and I have lost 80lbs.I have had one fill six weeks after surgery and a complete unfill two months ago. My current weight is 155. I have a slipped band and I will require surgery soon. I am a self pay and I have not even paid off my last surgery yet. My husband will probably divorce me because we can’t afford another surgery. My band was completely fool proof until three months ago. I loved it, after four or five ounces of food I felt like I had eaten a thanksgiving dinner. Occasionally, I would overeat, eat to fast or be too hungry, the result was vomiting. People call it purbing, “productive burping.” Perbing is the dirty little secret of having a Lap-band. Perbing is vomiting and ultimately it can cause a prolapsed stomach. After a bout of what I thought was stomach flu, I vomited more than usual. The symptoms were the onset of reflux, stomach pain and more vomiting. The night time reflux became so bad that I aspirated and contracted pneumonia. I have been on anti-biotics, Nexium and Carafate. I now have ulcers and my barium upper GI showed that I am damaging my esophageal sphincter. I had an endoscope under fluoroscope and the bottom line is I have to have surgery and have my band fixed, revised or removed. I have an appointment with my original surgeon on Friday. I am not sure how this will all turn out but I want others to be aware that you can slip your band years later, after no problems and a good weight loss. I you eat until you vomit, you are eating too fast or too much. I have pretty good insurance, but they will not cover the Lap-band. If I have any more complications with my second surgery I will be bankrupt. I never considered these possibilities when I had my initial surgery. Would I have the LAP-BAND surgery knowing what I know now? Yes, absolutely I would have the surgery again. I love the result, losing this much weight has changed my life. I will figure it out, I will figure out how to pay for it, my husband will not divorce me. I will keep you all posted…….Jennifer

    Snacks?

There are so many differences in plans! The one I got laid out 3 meals and 3 Snacks - I couldn't meet Protein without them, and with such tiny portions I personally will get a little lightheaded if I don't ingest something every few hours. When I asked the nutritionist, she looked at me like I was an idiot and told me that's why they suggested eating 5-6 times/day, lol. This week, I've been snacking on about 1/3 - 1/2 of a single serve mandarin cup in the morning (I've been craving citrus like crazy) and a turkey lunchmeat, cheese, and mustard roll in the afternoon. If I weren't hitting at least the minimum protein goal, I'd swap the fruit out for a protein snack. We're also allowed the melty kind of crunchy stuff on our soft diet plan. I got a free sample of dill pickle flavored "krinkles" - they're basically soy chips - that are 12 grams of protein per bag. The bag lasted me 3 days, but satisfied the need to crunch something without going off plan. You can order those online, they come in a few flavors.
  12. I had very little pain with my lapband in the beginning. I'm about 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery and I just started having pain about where my port would be. It's almost like a burning pain sometimes. Any idea what this could be or is this something common? I'll probably give it another day or so and call my doctor before the holiday if it doesn't stop.
  13. I am a busy professional woman who works four 10 hour days/week and I have a teenage daughter who keeps me busy. I am in the process of going through the preauth period for sleeve surgery. Now that I am reading all the posts my single biggest concern is how I am going to fit in my postop eating schedule into my busy life. I am used to grabbing things on the go. I plan to take 2 weeks off postop but I wondered how people felt physically after 2 weeks going back to a full time schedule. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Hi there- I have exactly the same schedule and a teenage daughter! After the 2 weeks you will probably be on puree foods. I kept it simple by using pre-made shakes, greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, and homemade bean or lentil type of Soups that I could smash up really good since I had no desire to puree anything. Considering that I was not hungry at all it was very easy. It has gotten much harder since I have been on solid food. What works best for me is having a shake or egg for Breakfast, Soup from the cafeteria at work, a cheese stick, greek yogurt or Protein bar for a snack, and then dinner after I get home. I just don't have the time or interest to pack a full lunch so this is easy! By 2 weeks out I felt pretty good. I did work a couple of day at home which helped.

    Plication Lapband Fills

I was banded and plicated june 2011. I'm down 83 lb, from 268 to 184. I'm happy with my decision, I think the plication has helped a lot. One main reason is that there are some days with the band that I can eat like im not banded. Anything and everything. The plication keeps me from eating a lot. I can way about the size of a kids meal if I'm not restricted by the band. My first fill was 4 weeks after surgery, I hit green zone at the third fill (possibly a little past green, but I like it tight).

    Sex?

My husband was scared to "break me" so we waited like 3 weeks. Even then he was scared to hurt me haha Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I drink from a straw all the time. Especially if out in a restaurant. If you have gas pains after stop and try again after a few weeks months as you heal. Everyone is different.
  19. I am four weeks out and like the topic title states...I have been eating salad left and right! I would add diced boiled egg, avocado, fish, some cheese and drizzle it with a vinaigrette such as raspberry or balsamic. Are you a salad lover? I don't have restriction yet, but I have read and heard that many people cannot tolerate salad after getting fills..

    Feeling full

I just posted about this on another thread, because today was my first day of soft foods, and I definitely felt full! Liquids and puréed foods never gave me this full feeling. I ate about 1 oz. of poached salmon, and a little under 1/4 cup mashed cauliflower/potatoes. Full, full, full! The protein made all the difference, because I'd had mashed potatoes a couple of times during my puréed week. Hang in there!

    lettuce???

I'm 3 weeks out and I have eaten salad and done fine with it. It was nice to be able to eat salad. I had the band before I converted to the sleeve and with the band I could not eat lettuce. So far no problems with it now.

    first fill?

At my 6 week follow-up (oct 24) I think I will need my first fill. I am watching it but feel hungry between meals and feel like I can eat more than I should. I think these are signs of a needed fill. Do you agree?
  23. Was banded on May 23, 2012. My surgeon says he gives everyone their first fill at 4 weeks. I've been on regular food for almost 2 weeks and I'm still losing weight (2-4lb per week). My question is if I'm losing more weight than is recommended per week do I really need this fill?

Is it ok to drink out of a straw?

Several weeks after being banded , we went out for dinner fo the 1st time after surgery. I took 3 tiny bites of the inside of a quesidilla, 3 tiny sips of my hubbys margarita ( I forgot and used the straw ! ) Uh oh !!!!! Half came back up in the bathroom, half in the parking lot ! I dont know if it was the alcohol or the straw, but DON'T try a straw unless you're way out from surgery, and preferably home near a bathroom. Just sayin' .
  25. I waited about 1 1/2 weeks. I had no pain from the incisions. Guess it comes down to position as well. Go for it.
