*Susan* revision from band to sleeve
MacMadame replied to *susan*'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The only thing that bugged me, for sure, was milk. I ate cheese and yogurt like crazy. I could also have milk in things -- baked and cooked. I did suspect that some of the 100% whey shakes were not helping but I could get them down. I eventually switched to a shake that was a whey/soy mix and that never gives me a tummy ache. -
I was banded on 01/19/09. I just had my first fill on 03/23. The fill has made a big difference and I can only eat 4-6 oz's per meal. Today my meals consisted of: Breakfast - 1c. Fiber one Cereal with 1c of skim milk/260 cal. lunch - Healthy Choice meal. Grilled chicken Marinara/270 cal. dinner - 2 oz sliced turkey and 4 oz cottage cheese/130 cal. I will probably have a snack later that will probably be 4 oz of suger free yogurt/60 cal. From what I understand it is very important to do breakfast on a daily basis. Breakfast will jump start your matabilism for the day and help your body stay out of starvation mode.

I was sleeved 10/16 and a few days into a full liquid diet I felt just like you. I did not think I could choke another protein shake down.... I asked my Doc if it was more important to get in fluids or protein right now, and he said that they were both equally important. He suggested Greek yogurt. It has saved my life! It is yummy and creamy. Eight oz of nonfat yogurt have 120 calories and 23 grams of protein! A bite that I can handle is the amount I can lick off the back of my baby spoon, but if I keep working I can get it down in about an hour.

Clear liquid diet...SUCKS!!!
bayareanan replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just finishing up my 2 week post of liquid diet(I also had 2 weeks of Clear liquids before surgery). My Dr didnt allow yogurt or sf pudding. The closest to normal I got (besides the clear soup) was sf Jello and sf popsicles. My next phase is 4 weeks of pureed/mushes. I have to admit I am thinking of staying on liquids another week because I have made slow but steady progress while on liquids only. The first few days are the worst, but after that you accept the limitations and make due. -
Clear liquid diet...SUCKS!!!
tabatha lynn replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Alot!! Best of luck to you as well. I drank the EAS Carb Controll Shakes from Wal-Mart. Mixed them with some crushed ice, a little bit of milk and plain yogurt in the blender and they were pretty good. Now its no mac n cheese but after all mac n cheese is what got me here.. They are low in carbs and sugar. Plus when you add the milk and plain yogurt that gives you a little more protein. Hope this helps.. Keep us posted on how your doing!! -
Post Op - Full Liquid phase
JamieLogical replied to almond_jay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was allowed any strained cream soup during my full liquid phase, so there were a LOT of options. I literally bought every single one my grocery store had. My favorites were Campbell's condensed cream of shrimp made with 2% milk and Progresso's Chicken Cheese Enchilada. I was also allowed drinkable yogurt in my full liquid phase, so maybe that would be an alternative to soup or protein shakes if you are tired of those? -
Some say Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. They say it boosts metabolism and provides extra nutrients. It keeps you from being as hungry during the morning, so you’re better able to make healthy eating choices the rest of the day. It gives you energy to be more active. And, it can give you a good dose of that all-important nutrient – Protein. Still, breakfast isn’t always the top priority for everyone. We may be too busy to cook, or too rushed in the morning to sit down for this meal. Or, it can just be too boring to make eggs every day, or grab a container of yogurt on the way out the door. Do you eat breakfast every day? Did you used to, or did you start when you first started thinkg about WLS or even after? What do you usually have for breakfast, and how do you make sure you have time to prepare it every day?

Chinese - hot & sour soup, moo goo gai pan, beijing chicken. Mexican - Beans, especially thinned with salsa juice or sour cream. Chipotle bol with no rice (lasts for several meals). McDonald's - the only thing I ever eat from that place is the fruit & yogurt parfait. If I have need to go there post-op I'll pass the fruits to DH and just eat the lowfat vanilla yogurt. Schlotzsky's - they have awesome Soups, and good pizzas. I used to get their thai chicken pizza, eat the toppings off and then pick at the very top (saucy) part of the crust. Chipotle and Schlotzsky's are really the only fast food places I'll eat at, I enjoy cooking too much (and knowing what's in my food).

I eat Wendy's chili, McDonalds fruit and yogurt parfait w/o granola. What I LOVE is Arby's roasted Chicken club. It is deli roasted chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and sauce. I get it w/o the bun and half the sauce. Has 20 grams of protein. I eat it for dinner and lunch. I can't do bread yet at all.

You might want to talk to a nutritionist about appropriate substitutions if you have food allergies, mamaje. If you don't have one already, it might be worth the cost of an appointment to ease your mind and have some closure on that concern. As for eventually being able to go out and enjoy things with your family and friends again, of course you will. Hopefully you will have embedded your good habits by then that you'll really want that grilled salmon with sauce on the side and the veggies that go with it, and won't care to have that giant mega-burger with 4 kinds of cheese, onion rings and a big shake. The goal is to build good habits so that if you choose to have a treat, it will be just that, and you'll do so in an appropriate way. It really depends a lot on you, and your long-term relationship with food. For example, I don't particularly have a sweet tooth, though I enjoy an occasional small dessert or a cookie in moderation even now, pre-sleeve. I fully expect that once I get past the first few months I might have the occasional tiny piece of pie or small piece of dark chocolate, because I'm easily satisfied with just a taste. I *DO* have a problem with salty Snacks like crackers, chips and popcorn. I may never allow those back into my diet, because it just won't be worth it if they sabotage me. There are things I can substitute that will likely serve me better nutritionally and fill me up on a more appropriate serving size, like raw veggies with a non-fat Greek yogurt dip.

August 26 Sleevers

@@BarnGirlWK - Hey, join this group too - we were going to be just the 26'ers - but Im good with 23'ers and 24'ers too - basically same time line! @@taken_chances19 - hey Barngirl has surgery at Mi hospital on the 24th... so we will all three be there - you guys before me - so we will have to find each other - what is your real name? Me - Im doing ok with the liquid diet - my problem is 4-5:oopm - I have even tried moving my lunch to 1pm to see if that helps and it doesnt... so I end up having a yogurt snack at 430 just to keep me going till 6pm dinner. I have to be more careful with the shakes because Im very lactose intolerant - so Ive been using Pure Protein prepared drinks for breakfst or lunch and muscle milk with Water for the other meal. I have several sample packs of vegan shakes from the Vitamin Shoppe - but so far they are nasty. So Im saving them until after the surgery incase the nastiness is not so bad then! I just placed a $200 order with unjury for shakes, soup, and Vitamins for after the surgery. I plan to bring some of the individual chicken soup packs with me to Mexico because Ive heard that their chicken broth is not so good. I have had 3 personal friends go to Mi Hospital to have the sleeve surgery. So I have really listened to everything they have told me to bring and do. They all 3 sing the praises of that hospital and staff - so I feel comfortable with my decision. -
What Is Your Beverage of Choice?
emardee replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Plain Water, but has to be ice cold. I throw a couple of half-filled bottles in the freezer every day, then top them off with filtered water from the frige door when I'm ready to drink it. I have a bottle next to me or with me when I'm out and about. I'll have an occasional Cappuccino (maybe twice a week) with skim milk. Pre-workouts, I throw some Fairlife skim milk (ultra filtered, high Protein, very clean taste) in the blender with a few tablespoons of Greek yogurt, a few drops of coconut or vanilla extract, a few ice cubes and either a single frozen strawberry or a few slices of banana. -
I was banded 9-28 I have lost 14 lbs. and I am happy. I haven't been perfect but when I cheat I do frozen yogurt. I had my first real food on Thursday an egg and two small pieces of ham lunch meat. I ate it at 12:30 and at 6:30 I was still just stuffed. It was only about 100 calories. IT WAS SO WEIRD. It is hard because sometimes I want to keep eating but I am afraid I might hurt my self so I stop. My first fill is in Nov. on the 16th, it is going to be 500.00 for the first one! The next ones will be about 259.00. When you get to your sweet spot do you just stay there? Guess I've rambled enough, thanks for "listening" Cleone

Would you use it as a dip for veggies, or just eat it as yogurt?

*Susan* revision from band to sleeve

Wow I didn't know this. I thought after surgury you drink protein drinks which are dairy based? I guess yogurt will not be a soft food either. I need to find out what everyone is eating after surgury?? Any input for me? Susan - that is terrible for you. I hope it all works out very soon. -
Looking for my December 2022 Surgery Twin
SalvoStrike replied to Ashbash88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also had a bypass surgery a few weeks ago, and it started with soups and protein shakes. I understand your desire to get back to an active life, especially if you were into sports. I'm also looking forward to when I can resume physical activity. As for satisfying and filling meals, I've found that braised vegetables with chicken breast and quinoa can be a tasty and healthy choice. Additionally, fruits, low-fat yogurts, and vegetable omelets are good for variety. The key is to watch portion sizes and follow your doctor's recommendations. -
Between protein shakes, protein pudding, sugar-free Popsicles, Mio drops, calcium chews, yogurt, fresh fruit, quest bars, etc., I never feel deprived from something sweet and/or chocolate.

I'm 4.5 months out I've lost 70lbs since surgery and total of 110lbs since I've started the program a year ago. I'm very happy but very scared of going back. Typical day 5 oz low fat yogurt with my crushed medicine. Protein shake about hour later. This is where I'm worried lunch I eat 6-8 oz low fat cottage cheese. I get my water and at least 2-3 protein shakes that's not my worry. Dinner 3/4 cup fish/chicken with salad. I'll sometimes swap lunch and dinner ,but the fact that I can eat 8 oz cottage cheese worries me. In between meals I'll sometimes eat a banana 3/4 of one. I've done this with minimal exercise plan on changing this very soon as weather gets better. Just very worried I can eat so much without sickness.

I was able to swallow pills right away (a day or two after surgery). I do have one large pill that I haven't gotten back to taking yet. I wonder the same thing...maybe crush it (it's just really a horse pill). I'll be watching to see how folks make it palatable. I did sprinkle my Biotin in my yogurt this morning, just to see how it would be. No taste change, but really gritty!

Nooo apologizes newstart38, thank you for sharking.. sorry you had a rough time post procedure and continue to have some issues even at home.. your not alone, each of us has had some sort of lingering issue or minor setback.. Sounds like your tummy hunger calls though are within reason, the trick is giving it something it wants that it will like. I was similar to you post-op day 2-5 I was not sure if I was hungry or cramping, one time I took 2 doses of cramping meds thinking i was cramping a lot but I was actually hungry. Over time the cramping will actually move either to the left or lower left of your incision, and then your tummy center-right will start to have its own unique space for hunger pain, it will make it easy to tell the difference between cramp and pain.. at first it all runs together. Now when it comes to food for the hungry new tummy, I too struggle with finding something that my tummy named "Mr. bumble" will live with.. one day I think i understand the routine and the next day he changes it. be prepared, have cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese if you like it, mash potatoes, and Protein Shakes ready to try so you can find something it likes..only take a taste to see if your tummy will like it, you will know pretty quick if it does not (strangely enough) Since you were sleeved on the 19th, 5 days post op, I think you will start feeling a sense of normalcy over the thanksgiving holiday. keep up the good work!!

October 2009 Surgery Date?
Tina Schweitzer replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nooshie, So you are getting so close now and day 12 of pre-diet I realize from your post that its protein shake and soft food like yogurt ect. Can you tell me how long on that and than you said clear liquids can you elaborate on what is allowed during that phase and how long and how many days prior to surgery did you have to start. I'm living in Germany and my doctor doesn't use a pre diet but I will do it. So any info would be great. Thanks Tina -
October 2009 Surgery Date?
Salbri replied to Daria77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Nooshie, Funny when I was on liquids I was the most excited about eating cottage cheese - so I have eaten it nearly every day. I am getting about 1200 - 1400 calories Protein shake (Genisoy protein, water, Peanut Butter, banana, GNC powder vitamins (this is something I have been eating every breakfast for the last 4 years) lunch is usually cottage cheese, a few tablespoons of hummus and few tablespoons of pate. Dinner - soup, more cottage cheese or greek yogurt, hummus or pate. Oh and I made this amazing applesauce made with apples I cooked in apple cider in place of water and cinnamon. I have 9 days of mushies left so I am going to try some of the recipes I found in the food section. Maybe a bit of a change in diet would be good. -

That is the same kind of bottle I use, only I bought mine at Meijer. We ahve like 3 of them around here. One for both my husband and I at home that I keep in the fridge and I have one at work that I drink out of all day. I almost always have my Water done by the time I leave work and it is so easy to measure using that bottle. Anyhow y'all better hold up the fort while I am on vacation this weekend. It is our annual "girls weekend" so I will be at a hotel with my mom, grandma, 4 aunts, and 2 cousins. I have already packed my sack of 100 calorie snack packs and ff pudding and yogurt. Wish me luck!!!! Oh and the hotel has a workout room so if I am working out I expect y'all to do the same!! =)
