  1. Hi Mollie, I was banded by him on 7/26, and everything went just as you said. Only I wish they spoke more english, but they knew what to do. I didn't have any troulble, just the usual with this type of surgery. I live in florida, and had never flew on a plane before. You can imagine what it's like facing being banded and then get on a plane. But I loved it. Got over my fear of flying. Now I'm ready for a fill, cause I have no restriction. I did loose about 10 or 12 lbs. and haven't gained it back, but I'm ready to loose more. Guess I'm going to the fill center in Lakeworth as it's closet to me. I hope you have good luck, keep your fingers crossed that my fill works good the first time. Take care, I'll keep you posted. Vicky Waters
  2. I don't start my cycle until another week and a few days as I'm on birth control pills, but I think the Water weight is already starting to creep up. I lost a few pounds last week, but nothing this week, and today the scale said a one pound GAIN! GRRRRRR........And, to make matters worse, I have my six week doctor visit next Thursday when I will most likely be at the peak of my water gain. I hate the vicious cycle. Do others typically see a slow down or gain a week or so before their cycle?

    Walking/exercise advise

I was encouraged to start walking while still in the hospital also. You will still be healing for some time, so listen to your body and don't over do things. Walking will help jump start the weight loss and aide the healing. Best of luck in your journey.
  4. I've had a much better day today and it has been wonderful not to feel sick all day! The surgeon told me that the nausea will come on and off for a while. That sucked to hear. However, I am feeling better for now and starting to get excited about losing the weight. I am not at all hungry but I still am sitting here thinking about food I wish I could eat. I am sure my missing food will last a good long while. I want to thank all you guys on here that have supported me. I think a lot of the reason I was less sick today was that I didn't try to force myself to drink a protein shake. I'm just not ready for all that. You guys let me know it was ok to not be able to eat for a while and I'm grateful for the help! When the doc called to check on me today I told him I wasn't eating much at all and he didn't seem a bit concerned so it looks like you all were right! Thank you

    Hair loss

Hi! I was sleeved on April 19th! Congrats on your 57lb loss! I am only at 44 so that's great! As far as the hair loss have you started losing hair? I too do the 10,000 mcg of biotin and knock on wood haven't lost any as of yet. I have heard that the slower u lose the weight the better of a shot you have to not lose much. My hair is thin to begin with so I was really worried. Hoping things stay the same where this is concerned!
  6. I find I don't loose weight unless I eat low-carb, even if I just stick to "good carbs" my weight loss stalls. Also I have diebeties, another reason to restrict carbs. I was able to get off my blood sugar medication. I stick to high protien such as fish, chicken, eggs, eat non-starchy veggies, snack on nuts and cheese and have the occassional LC protien shake. I agree with what was said, everybodies body is different, find what works for you.
  7. I love the weight loss, but between the wrinkles on my face, the hanging skin and my boobs looking like what I image a 90 year old's boob would look like this is getting a little gross! I have lost a cup size and that does not make me happy! Hubby liked the fun bags! (he is banded also so he is very understanding even though no excess skin on him...urrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:angry:) How is everyone else doing with this! I have about 100 pounds to go so I can't even image how much worse this is going to get and I never realized how the excess weight kept my face unwrinkled... What are you all doing to fight back! One thing I realize is I now understand why people have plastic surgery... I figure I will need about 30K worth to make me happy when this is all done:thumbup: Chime in... I would love to hear all my sista's stories so I no I am not alone in this irony of losing weight feeling great and the flip side of what the hell is happening to my body!

    Surgery Feb 4th... Dr Almanza

Good luck! I'm doing mine alone soon too. I can't say I have a goal either because I've been obese since I was a pre-teen and so I have NO CLUE what size/weight I'm going to feel comfortable at. I haven't found a clear protein that I actually like. But for powders my favorites are the Jarrow formulas because they are rsbt/hormone free, etc etc, and they are creamy and tasty especially if you have maybe a magic bullet to whip them up into a good frothy magical drink. I like the Plant Fusion vegan protein too, but it has a green taste to it that some people will hate. I hope you have a great experience!
  9. I did not have to go on any pre-op diet. Which I got nervous about and wondered if i was supposed to and maybe I misunderstood. But nooope! My surgeon told me the same thing.. To just try to ween myself off the soda, coffee, etc. And most importantly, He told me do NOT gain any more weight or he will cancel the surgery. I did not put myself on a strict diet... However I did stop drinking soda, coffee, eating junk food..etc. And i didn't gain any weight! I actually lost a few more pounds prior to surgery. And nope, No shaving.. I don't see why they would have to. I was on my period and had a damn catheter in... ugh! I woke up with it, Didn't even know I had one or was getting one for that matter.

    Family support

You just made cry. You can never be terrible when are trying to take control of your health. So get that right out of your head! I've only told my immediate family and there are range of emotions and opinions I get from them. Mostly it's worry and concern of the unknown. So I gauged each persons reaction and for those who seem interested in knowing what's it all about; I shared the high lights of my 3 years of research, and they get it. With my husband and daughter I've educating them every step of way and they are optimistic but at the same time they keep the risks involved in the back of their minds. I never asked, but mom and my sis offered to come to lighten my household load and help me focus 100% on recovery(which doesn't include lying on my butt all day...lol). I do however have another sister and brother in law who don't support me and just yesterday they noticed i lost some weight, i explained it was do to the pre op diet and their like "you see you can do it by yourself just keep doing what your doing". I'm like "are you kidding me I am practically starving myself and if I don't keep myself distracted I could eat one of my own arms off". Lol, then I said "besides you guys know every time I get on a diet I always cheat". My brother in law straight flat out said "by doing that sleeve thing you are cheating". At that point I just walked away and said sarcastically "ok thank you for your support". He later apologized. So do what you must to get healthy just prepare for some not to be on board. Good luck and good health to you.

    Weight Loss Stall?

Yes! It happens to everyone. I'm 9 months out and had stalls quite a few times. I just reached my goal weight. Yay! It will pass .
  12. Hi Freelee, Congrats on your surgery but, sorry to hear what a tough start it has been. I had c-diff after surgery and did feel pretty bad for about a month or so. My sister had terrible nausea right after also but, it DOES go away and get WAY easier. For about two months I really had to work at eating and drinking. At first, your new insides are so focused on getting healed, it really can be hard to get in what you should all the time. Definitely talk to your doctor and nutritionist so they can help you work through this and stay healthy. It seems like most of us turn the corner about month three. I know that's when I actually began to taste my food again and not be nervous at every bite anymore. I know this is a really crappy beginning but, just hang in! It all gets better and really exciting as the weight begins to drop and you are more able to focus on living life as a healthy person and doing more fun things. I know I am much less focused on food in general as well. This will turn out to be a great thing but, like all things great..they don't come easy! Just keep focused on your new future and all the great things to come and you'll get through this! I wish you all the best luck and speedy recovery!

    Not just a pretty face...

I've been told all my life that I have a pretty face. Up until now, I've been content with just having a pretty face. Now I ask myself, what is a pretty face with the confidence to go and do all the things life has to offer. I second guess even the smallest party or event. I am consistently starting and stopping the diet process. I eat for so many reasons now that it is just unbelievable. I ask myself, how did I let it get this far? I visualize every event. From the seats on the airplane to the rides at the amusement park and everything in between. I worry that this is going to take over my life, no it has taken over. I use to be a lot of fun now I'm more of a hobbit. I stay home and I cook and clean for my husband and I even go to school online for fear that I will no longer be able to put my big hips behind a desk. I hate this fear of embarrassment, but it has started to control every aspect of my life. My mother is completely for the surgery, but my husband isn't as understanding. My mother has watched me struggle with my weight for what seems like forever. Whereas my husband thinks that because he can diet and exercise and loose weight, so can I. I wish I could make him understand that I am tired of fighting a loosing battle. I need something more than just a diet and exercise plan. My biggest downfall is that when I am what I call hungry, I am going to eat. I need something to control my neverending appetite. I believe lap band is just what I need. My weight has gotten far enough out of hand and I refuse to let it continue to control my life. Where do I go from here? (excuse my rambling on, but it really made me feel so much better!):cursing:
  14. Reading through the rules that I got for my stage II diet, I get the distinct impression that a lot of these rules are guided by weight loss concerns, and not health concerns. That is, drinking something with some calories isn't going to threaten my wound, is it? Because apple juice is having a much easier time staying down than Water. What are some of the other rules you were given that seem like they're more of a weight loss concern than a surgery recovery concern?

    No period?!

Trauma and the hormones flooding your system (they are stored in fat cells and released into your bloodstream during times of rapid weight loss) can both but your cycle into complete disarray. Early periods, constant periods, and late periods seem to be more normal for the first few months post-op than just having your cycle stay regular. That said, in your situation, I would be making double and triple sure about my pregnancy status if that was even remotely a possibility.

    Too tight?

How do I know it's too tight or if it's just swelling? Because normally my recovery time varies. I've never had an entire CC put into my band at once, it's usually only a 1/4 or 1/2 but the nurse and I agreed that I wanted to be more aggressive because I am stuck at my weight and still too hungry. Well, Water goes down fine but then yesterday (day after fill) I could only have two bites of applesauce and some green tea and sugar free popsicles. Today, I tried solids (stuuupid)- some cheese- and now even tea comes up. I've vomited so many times since my fill because the first day I kept trying things like milk and stuff and the second day because I ate too much applesauce. I don't know if it's because the band is too tight or if it's because I've been vomiting so much that I'm just swollen. I'm sticking to water for the rest of the day, to see if that helps, but I'm wondering if it just comes down to the band being too tight. Advice?

    Monthly 2 days before surgery

Oh no that's terrible can you call the office and explain to them that you usually gain 5ish lbs around TOM? It would be terrible for them to deny you based on that. Last visit I had with the PA at my surgeons office I had TOM and told her I was up 5 lbs. she just gave me the stank eye, like I was lying about it. Most of the staff is understanding at my surgeons office but she wasn't. At my next appt I was down 13 lbs and she said wow, that's a lot of weight in 2 weeks - and I said to her, it helped that I lost an additional 5 lbs of bloating from my cycle! She just laughed.

Insurance Needs To Do A Better Job!

I am also to be supervised for 6 months before surgery as well as talk to a case manager with the insurance co once a month. Along with that I have to see the weight doctor once a month and all the other stuff you've had to do. I am praying that at the end of the 6 months, the insurance co. doesn't come back and say i didn't do something right or that i'm missing stuff. It's so annoying! I just want to be able to have everything go smoothly. Keeping my fingers crossed for you Holly

    Weight lost stopped!

Have you had any fills yet? I lost 20 pounds after surgery say first month and then things really hit a road block. I had one fill but really has done nothing for me cant have another one until next week. I too am weighing my food, exercising every day. Do I think I am loosing inches yes. But frustrating not to be loosing weight.
  21. Hello out there.... I am in the final stages of approval and will be getting my date Friday! My biggest stress is my skin. I would like to know of those out there that have lost 100 ish pounds and what has happened to their skin. If you were saggy, where it is, how bad is it - really.... I've pretty much accepted the "girls" are going to be the area most affected. I have still maintained a great deal of exercise and muscle despite my weight gain, so I am hoping that will help. Any stories, suggestions, ways of handling the problems, etc. Thanks!

    My journey so far...

Congrats on your success!! I too am slower with my weight loss than it seems other people are, but your story gives me hope that I'll get there! Thank you for sharing
  25. Well only "7 Days" and the Band will be on! So far so good. I'm also a Type II Diabetic, and the past week my levels have been on Point, from 80-108 and I cut my Lantus (Insulin) down 80%!!! Do I smell a Needle Free Future?! I went to my PCP to get my Final Clearance this morning, all the Paperwork stuff. They took my Weight, I'm down almost 14lbs!!! I didn't believe it, so I weighed myself on two other scales there, but that's what it said. I really can't see a difference tho. I just have never felt this good about anything I've ever done, I mean done just for me. And I'm actually following through with it. But I have to say this Forum is what's getting me through. I have gained a lot of knowledge from you all, so thank you so much! Your Friend, Rocko~~:welldoneclap:
