{sigh} This is not just about a birth certificate. From the lawsuit, here are some of the claims: - Obama was adopted by a Foreign Citizen, Lolo Soetoro, M.A. a citizen of Indonesia. - Obama has or had a passport from the Government of Indonesia. - Indonesia did not provide for dual citizenship when Obama received his passport there, which means he had to give up his US passport. - Obama would have needed to be an Indonesian citizen to enter the school he was enrolled in in Indonesia. - Obama traveled to Pakistan in 1981 with his Pakistan friends, stopping in Indonesia on the way to renew his passport. - Pakistan was a no travel zone in 1981 for American Citizens. Pakistan was not allowing American Citizens to enter their country, and therefore Obama traveled on his Indonesian Passport to Pakistan. Regardless of whether the Hawaiian birth certificate is real or not (or, I guess, the second one, because the first one was a fake), these are still legitimate questions to be answered. If Obama gave up his citizenship when he was a child, that makes him ineligible to be President. I know if you're an Obama supporter you don't like this issue, but that doesn't make people who have legitimate questions idiots or conspiracy-nuts.

Before I decide... Pregnancy after Bariatric Surgery?
RedCheeks posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My name is Mel, I am 31 years old & I have just finished all my requirements prior to submitting my Prior Authorization request to Insurance. Before I do, I have to tell my patient advocate if I want the Rouxen-Y or the Sleeve. I am a little unsure. I am 270 lbs, 5'3", I am at my highest. I am lucky to have an insurance plan that covers WLS at 90%. I recently entered into a relationship with a great man and her is very supportive of my choice to do this. However, recently the topic of children came up. Now, I had my tubes tied 7 years ago and I have 2 boys ages 7 & 11. He, however, does not have any children. And he wants to have 1, just 1. Now I have read online how you should wait between 12-18 months post surgery before you try to have a baby. And I am currently researching TR & IVF options. I am doing all the research now so I know what I am getting into. I am wondering, has anyone else ever gone through this situation? If so, I am wondering, if I am planning to have a baby later is it best for me to.... 1. Rouxen-Y or the Sleeve? 2. Whats the weight gain like? will I regret it? 3. Will I be able to nourish an unborn baby adequately? 4. Will getting pregnant cause damage to my existing WLS? 5.... is there anything else I should consider? Any feed back is greatly appreciated. I really want to be able to make a good choice before I decide which surgery to go with. -
My Doctor's say the week 3 stall isn't real...
IveGotThePower replied to Smithsleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your doctor is an idiot.............wait did I say that out loud? My apologies, but not t your doctor, to you for having to listen to that. My 3 week stall was me eating 800 calories a day and not loosing one pound for 20 consecutive days. I weigh twice a day and have it documented. You will find a lot of people with a 3 week stall. Yes, it is true. Doctors are people and trust me when I say, I have dealt with my share of Dr idiots. My initial pcp Doctor that I had been seeing for about 15 years told me he would not recommend the surgery and that he knew that a lot of people have problems with it. So very glad I did my own research and found KNOWLEDGEABLE Doctors who actually knew their stuff and admitted to me that it is a struggle to get other doctors who are not in the field to understand what bariatric surgery is and what it does. We have to take responsibility for our own health and our own health care decisions. The best to you. -
I was originally 4/21 but a project that I was working on at work got postponed from 4/1 to June... So I quick called the surgeons office to see if they could move me up and (yay) they could. My docs pre-surgery diet ended up being super simple. He's not real strict about pre-surgery diets other than to cut out the caffeine and sodas (cut out sodas 2 years ago) and not go hog wild this week on the food. He said be sensible. Nothing but clear liquids next weekend. Have to do the "cleanse" over the weekend too (oh boy!). It is going to be so hard to focus at work this week. I'm like nesting...cleaning my house, throwng out and giving away the contents of my fridge, freezer and cabinets so there is nothing in there but bariatric friendly stuff. Making lists and trying out Protein drink concotions in the little blender. I keep arranging and rearranging my protein drinks, Vitamins and supplies an the table. LOL Can you tell I'm just a little excited?

Post op ketamine infusions
lizonaplane replied to redhead_che's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I might suggest the provider who prescribes the ketamine have a discussion with your bariatric surgeon. A good friend of mine has done ketamine nasal spray for years, but he has also been told not to do bariatric surgery due to other medications he's on. If you can't get the two MDs to talk (this can be hard, I found out), you could ask your bariatric center's NP or PA or send an email to your surgeon. I hope you get a good answer! -

How long did you take off work for your VSG?
McButterpants replied to pattyor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone recovers at a different pace - I actually had my surgery done on an outpatient basis by a very qualified doctor in Las Vegas (Dr. Umbach - he was ranked #2 on Newsweek's Top Bariatric Surgeons list). I was in at 6:00 am and out by noon that same day, resting peacefully at my condo. That was on a Thursday. I took exactly 3 pain pills during my recovery and that was so I could at night. That was it. I was perfectly capable of working from home starting the following Monday - no one in my office knew then or knows now that I had surgery. In fact, other than my parents, husband, son and best friend, no one knows I had surgery, including my two brothers, one that lives one mile from me. My recovery was seemless - not everyone's recovery is like that. My job consists of work on the computer, as Lipstick says above, I can do my job from the couch, bed, desk, kitchen table or coffee shop - no one knows where I am. Working 1/2 days that first week allowed me time to rest, walk and recover. Maybe that isn't for everyone, like the poster above me, but it's what I did and and it worked for me. WLS's are like snowflakes...no two are the same. -
Average calories
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My bariatric program also doesn't mention any numbers for calories. Numbers for for fluids and protein. So I am guessing they aren't too concerned about calories either. But I'll definitely bring it up during my dietician's appointment so I know what I'll be dealing with. -
Congratulations on your loss. I haven’t yet shopped from the bariatric pal store. I do buy low calorie snacks from the grocery store that are empty calories though and have them on occasion. It’s obviously better if you can find ones you like with protein added so it actually fills you up. Keep up the good work.

I was allowed to swallow anything smaller than a pencil eraser right after leaving the hospital - which for me meant all but two pills. One was calcium tablets, so I just got chewables. Can't remember what the other one was (it's been over seven years), but the PA at my bariatric clinic said it would be OK to wait for a couple of weeks to start taking those - and by that time, I should be able to swallow them. He was right.

Weigh In- Favorite Protein Shakes?
jtickle replied to AshleePage's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's office told me I could only use their bariatric advantage and celebrate mixes. I prefer the brand I can get at sam's club. They are also 45 dollars cheaper than the stuff at the doctor's office. I checked the nutritional information on a tub of both bariatric advantage and premier protein. They are the basically same thing. -
I've been banded since 2007 and I only recently started visiting this site... Stupid on my part. I learned quite a few things here. I wish I had been on here when I first started out. While reading different posts to help me with my pouch dialation problems 2 weeks ago I noticed many people who have had their bands removed. In the past I had port infection due to a tummy tuck, esophogeal hernia( which they originally thought was a band erosion) it was only when I was under anethstisia did my doctor see the problem and when I woke up I was totally ecstatic because I thought I would be waking up to having my band removed.it wasn't and I was grateful. I read so many people saying how it was the worst mistake by getting banded, but I feel so lucky. It's worked so well and the problems I had were my likely self induced, you know not chewing properly, the dumb tummy tuck which wasn't necessary. Those problems could have been avoided. The thought of being without my band it frightening. This last problem of pouch dialation was a strong reality check. I have to remember how to eat and chew properly. Just because so many years have past I must not become complacent . I was lucky to find so much info on these post at bariatric pal. I grateful for the posts I read and for future knowledge I can obtain just by reading other people's stories. I just wish I read more stories of people who have had great success with their band. I know I did and I love my band and can't image myself without it.

Am I the only one who loves their band?
sparkplug replied to michellemybelle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have not been to my bariatric doctor since my surgery. Have never had a fill, I rely entirely on the band, do not need to have the feeling of full because of the band being tightened up. It has been my choice to use this where I am comfortable and if something should go wrong I will have to find a new surgeon since my insurance does not cover this locally and there is not a bariatric doctor within 200 miles from here. Good luck and and try to make this work where you are totally in control, not waiting for your body to tell you to STOP eating because of pain from eating too much. -
Hey guys! As of today, I'm 2 weeks and 1 day away from changing my lifestyle and looking towards long term health and a better quality of life. Surgery is on 2/2 with Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras, Mexico. So glad. I joined a gym and actually worked out today! It felt great! I've been eating healthy and tapering off the junk food. It's amazing how much better I feel eating clean foods, working out and having the surgery in the line of sight. This time next week, I'll be on the pre-op diet...for 8 days... wish me luck! Sharing an excellent resource... if you don't already have it, it's a great read and the excellent advice the author provides is based on her experience counseling bariatric patients: The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia Alexander. Everyday I learn a new strategy for help along our journey. If you purchase it, let me know what you think!

I lost all respect for Dr. Now when Skin Tight started airing and he started billing himself as a plastic surgeon. You are either a bariatric surgeon or plastic surgeon. In all of my research of both (and I did a lot) I never heard of any reputable surgeon claiming to specialize in both. To anyone cosidering plastics, DO NOT go to anyone who claims to specialize in anything other that plastic surgery! It is a HIGHLY specialized field and deserves a surgeon's full focus and attention. Would you go to an orthopedic surgeon for a heart transplant?

Nobody Thinks I Need Weight Loss Surgery
shedo82773 replied to Tierra T Tij's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Don't let anyone or anything stand in your way of your health and happiness!! It is a personal choice. And you will be the one that has to do it yourself. I would at least try to convince someone to go with you to Mexico tho. Not because it can't be done alone but because you will just need someone to get the items you need. My hubby had his Sleeve in June. We went a day early and stayed a day later in a Motel just in case. I had to go get him broth and juice. When you return on your flight call ahead and tell them you need assistance to get around. They are wonderful and will have a wheelchair to take you in. You won't have to stand around for customs or have to wait to board your airplane. The surgeon he had was good but....their customs in Juarez, Mexico no way near as great as the US. I have heard great things about Tijuana, Mexico. And as was said earlier BARIATRIC PAL has great programs. Good Luck in whatever you decide you want to do!!! -
I had read this article pre surgery and thought it was good but of course wasn't there yet. Just stumbled across it again and I find it very helpful in a motivational way. I've read some of the guys other articles on his experience and they are really good. http://www.jeremycschofield.com/fitness-bariatric-surgery/ He mentions an exercise tracking app called JEFIT . Has or does anyone use this? If so how is it? I just downloaded it and am going to mess around with it in a bit.

Anyone familiar with this?
NikkiDoc replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I personally like both Matrix and Nectars. My surgeon's office sells both so I would take that as an endorsement by them. I have read that the human body cannot digest more than a certain amount of Protein at a time. The numbers I have seen vary from 20-30 grams. What I recall is that most of the studies regarding the high protein at one meal was done for body builders. That having higher amounts of protein per meal did not result in better building om muscle mass. It seems to me that this has then been twisted into the thought that we cannot absorb/digest more than X grams of protein per meal. I have not been able to find legit research that has been done to document how much protein is too much protein per meal as it applies to normal everyday people not body builders and their goals. I certainly have not been able to find how it relates to bariatric patients. Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional and may be way off base with what I am reading. If somebody has a link to research on how much protein is too much protein from a legit source I would love to read it. -
Anyone from Memphis or Collierville,TN?
hrdlywurkin replied to sharirism's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I live in Desoto County. My insurance prefers St. Francis, covers more if I use them. I just switched PCP a few weeks ago. She is willing to refer me to a bariatric surgeon. I asked her to help me with the 6 month documentation....she told me to go see a dietician to do that. I will be her 1st ever WLS patient. What do you think? Should I be more agressive with her or go see a dietician? Thanks -
Need to get fixed, suggestions?
WASaBubbleButt replied to goinggoinggone's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, Dr. Aceves will fix it, he's in Mexico on the Calexico border. LAP-BAND,laparoscopic banding, bariatric surgery, obesity Maybe just call the office and see if they use that thick stuff that is supposed to plug a leak. If you didn't have the fill under fluoro with contrast I wouldn't be jumping to a leak just yet. She might have missed your port. -
Well here's an update! I had a plastic surgery consult today. The surgeon (who works very closely with my bariatric surgeon) told me not to lose any more weight. I kinda thought that's what was happening. She said a lot of very helpful things. Showed me how my body will change. Some science and some clinical experience and some anecdotal. I like her. So she wants me to up my calories again. Over 1800. A lot has to do with how active I am and that my metabolic rate will triple to heal from the plastic surgery. She said I will lose a minimum of five pounds from the surgery. So now I will put effort into maintaining. Thank you for the feedback.
