  1. Hi, Banders! I'm being banded March 13. I was wondering if any of you have found any type of support group meetings in your area that you go to. My surgical center has one but it's only one day a month. I've driven to two other groups from other hospitals within an hour from my home, but those also are only monthly, and one of them was very discouraging (two married people who talked the whole time about how they learned to cheat their band -- I went twice to that one and it was the same pair both times). In a former life, I lost 140 pounds in OA, only to gain it back after getting married. While in OA, the meetings were a lifesaver and I could go to one any day of the week within an hour of my home. But my head is really not in the 12-step realm right now. I've thought of re-joining WW just for the meeting capability, but the ongoing cost could be an issue. It doesn't even have to be a WLS support group, just weight loss, and hopefully, free or cheap. Thoughts? (BTW, this online forum is wonderful, but getting out of the house to a group does help me.) Worst case scenario, I'll probably go back to WW. Thanks for the feedback!
  2. Has anyone noticed weight gain while using symbacort?
  3. How many calories are you all eating a day? I'm curious because I've always been told you should eat a minimum of 1200 calories a day to avoid "starvation mode". If I was still going to Weight Watchers, they would recommend 1400-1500 calories a day for my weight. My doctor says I should eat 1000 a day. What do your doctors say?
  4. I have developed two lumps since my surgery. One on my arm and one on my collarbone. They move under the skin and when I research seems they are fatty benign cysts. Not sure if this is related to the sleeve surgery or weight loss. I am also achy in my joints. Just wondering if anyone has experiences. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Longevity Question

One of my big concerns was that I read a report that said that 40% of bands had to be removed within 12 years. This was from a pro-Band information site. They did make the point that the technology is improving all the time so this stat would most likely improve as well. I almost chose against the band, but then I looked at it in a different way. I can either have the surgery now and take care of this weight and *maybe* have another surgery within the next 10 years to replace a faulty/old band or most likely have surgery within the next 10 years for an obesity related condition (loss of a limb due to diabetes, heart attack, etc.)...which will not get better as time goes on either. The band has a better prognosis than remaining obese. .

    Could Have Been Worse

Oh well, my weekly weigh in could have been worse...With me being sick and not up moving around much I will totally accept the 2.5 lbs gain...I will get that back off in no time...Of course I am not happy with it but I think my health this week was alot more important...My husband says that will can start walking as a family in the evenings for a little bit more of a workout, but we will see how that goes...I am going to atleast get back started on my afternoon workout possibly today...
  7. Hi There! I'm Jes. I'm twenty four.. from Baltimore, Maryland. I had my sleeve on December 20th, 2010. So I will be ten months out in just three dates. I started my journey at 317 pounds, day of surgery I was 292. And, today I'm at 175 pounds. To date the brings me to a total f 142 pounds lost. My original goal weight was 150 pounds. But, even then at 5'5 my BMI would be considered over weight. So at my last visit my surgeon and I jokingly agreed my new goal weight was 147. So either way you look at it I have 25lbs or 27 lbs. I started wearing a 24/26 and a 2/3 x top. I'm now in a 12/14 and a Medium top. SUPER excited. My personal goal was a 14 because I couldn't ever remember fitting into a 14. And, now they're starting to be too big.... AMAZING! I've noticed lately the only time I lose weight is when it's TOM! I was hoping to reach goal by my 1 year mark. But, at this point I'll be happy with just meeting goal in general!

    Pre Op Questions

I would ask if you feel like you are always in a struggle to keep weight off and if it was reall bothering you. If so then whats it matter the BMI because the quality of your life will dramaticly improve. There is no price tag on that. I wish you luck...
  9. Good for you for being so close to goal! You and I are close to the same weight (I'm 3 pounds more) so I appreciate how hard the last little bit is. I have been stuck between 166-168 for almost 3 weeks and it's driving me crazy. Just this week I increased my exercise and decreased my calories, so hopefully that will do the trick. Your list of goals sounds great- good luck- you can do this!

March 8th will be my last appt for heart clearance, I had an ekg which went well, but my cordinator wanted my paper work from a cardiologist,..after that paper work will be submitted, I hope I will get approved so i can start my journey, 31 from Michigan.

I know it is normal but...

You will not fail if you follow your plan. Any surgery is scary, with anesthesia. But this procedure for us, was 10 times easier than expected! You will be so happy! It is lifechanging with new rules. Thank God I will never pay Weight Watchers any more monty. Your tears will be wiped away when you start losing pounds! Smile at a new beginning.

    Stuck

My first week I lost 10 pounds then the other 2 weeks I lost 1-2 pounds each week. Don't weight yourself so much, try once a week. And remember, you may not be losing pounds because you are gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat) and losing inches. You're doing fine as long as you keep up with the post-op diet and exercise. + Pounds Already?

Hi. I was sleeved June 8. I was down (pre-and post-op) from 310 to 282. Then the last 3 days I've gained weight. Now I'm 286. I have my one week follow up appointment today, but should I be concerned about weight gain? I'm following their instructions and diet... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. I know that Kaiser in my area has weight loss or weight management classes, but not a member with them any longer. Was wondering in the Northwest Denver area where I might search for classes that will fulfill the requirement for the surgery. I haven't met with my own physician yet, but am trying to plan this out financially so that I it isn't a huge burden on me. Where have others searched as well? Thanks!

    Weight loss?

#1 I know your meals sound just fine and cals presumably low, but I would love to see the caloric breakdown. #2 You admitted you were less active. Remember, wl= calories in - calories burned. If your calories in is constant and you decreased cals burned than expect less wl or even a gain. #3 Being back to work as an RN can be taxing. Fatigue unto itself burns calories. Don't overlook the possibility you may indeed be more active than you realize and require more calories. Again, back to #1 what are you currently intaking? With the above info we can better discern which correction is more likely necessary. However, I do want to iterate that losing more than 2 lbs per week is not the goal. I always tell people that setting sensible expectations makes this journey more rewarding. Setting yourself up with insensible goals that cannot be maintained will only reinforce feelings of failure. SLOW and steady!

How To Loose Weight Before Lap Band

Depending on what your surgeon requires of you, you may or may not need to do this. It is medically supervised and my surgeon requires it, I even had to buy the shakes from his office. 4 a day for 2 weeks. The purpose is not for weight loss but to shrink the liver to make it easier and safer to do your surgery.
  17. I'm down from 354 to 295 and Ive been craving junk food and I've caved in. Ive also stretched my stomach out a bit and I need advice on how to get back on track.

Losing weight = less fatty liver?

Since 9/7 I've lost 14 lbs. I think (I didn't record) I was 274 on 8/29 and today I'm 254. I have recorded weight on 9/7 at 268. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I can't remember who it was that made the suggestion of Amplified Wheybiolic Protien Advanced powder. But THANK YOU!! :tt2: I went and bought the pouch for $25.99 from GNC on Thursday last week, drank for the first time on Friday and once a day since and I have dropped 5 lbs and gotten my energy back! I was feeling so tired from apparently not getting enough protein daily and my weight loss was bouncing up and down like a yo-yo. I am going to invest in the big container next and make it a daily part of my diet from now on. The only downside is that if you make the full serving amount it gives it will take most of the day to finish drinking it, or at least it did me. I used a smaller 16 oz container this morning and one scoop of powder which the guy at the store recommened and it was easier to finish. So I may have to do one in the morning and one at night, probably after I work out... :smile2:
  20. That is fantastic!!!! Are you using any weights or only cardio? Do you mind me asking what your starting weight was? I'm almost 3 months post op and this last month has been slow for me Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal mobile app
