I had my 2 week appointment today and I've lost 14 pounds since surgery! I'm pretty happy about 1 pound per day. 😁 Can't wait to be cleared for exercise - my PA says no sweating so I'm basically stuck with short walks. I'm not allowed eggs in puree either. I'd love a scrambled egg. 2 more weeks and I can go to soft food... 🤤

I ate eggs starting the 2nd week pureed diet. It agreed with me and has had no issues. I am on the 3rd week now and watermelon was so good! -
One week after surgery and I thought I can have cheese
Arabesque replied to sunny73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You’ve probably bought it up now but likely have bruised your healing tummy/throat hence you thinking you can still feel it. You’ll be okay but best to stick to liquids (shakes, soups, etc.) for another week. That ‘s one thing about the surgery, your tummy tells you pretty quickly, though not in the nicest way, it’s not ready for something yet. Puréed cheese??? Do they mean cream cheese? I would think even that would be too thick at one week. Probably Hold out on cheese to you are on solid foods & then soft cheese (processed cheeses like string cheese or cheese slices are a good place to start though I found jarlsburg easy to tolerate), though you could melt some cheddar in an omelette during soft. -
What foods taste different to you?
Arabesque replied to qtdoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The change in our taste buds, & sometimes our sense of smell too, is just temporary. The flavour, texture or smell of some foods almost turn your tummy or taste disgusting. While being extra sensitive to sweetness is pretty common, other flavours, textures & smells can be individual. I remember the first time I was able to eat vegetables as a side & sat down to my favourite asparagus & sugar snap peas & blah!! Just awful. Took a couple of weeks before I could eat them. Strangest one was smoked salmon. I often found it too rich pre surgery but suddenly I could eat it & had it every second day with cucumber & a little cream cheese. Then one day nope, couldn’t stomach it & haven’t been able to face it since. PS - Personally, I embraced the sensitivity to sweet & never really reintroduced sugar, sugar alternatives or sweeteners back into my eating. -
Food Before and After Photos
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Also, today was a meal prep day! for kids’ breakfast this week (not pictured, forgot to grab a photo sorry) 10 bacon egg and cheese burritos, 10 sausage, egg and cheese burritos, 10 Canadian bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, 6 egg and cheese sandwiches, and pancakes. This took about an hour total. freezer meals (pictured in my very disorganized freezer) 2 pepper steaks, 1 beef mushroom roast, 3 stuffed pepper soup, 2 creamy Italian chicken, 2 balsamic chicken, 2 corn lime chicken, 2 sweet and sour chicken, and 2 extra bags of chicken ready for other meals. So 14 dinner meals plus 2 extras which took maybe 2 hours total. I can just dump them in the slow cooker in the mornings and have dinner ready without much effort. Also, an unknown child spilled something in there (I’m thinking blueberries) and by the time I was done and saw it 😒 … It can wait another day. -

Lipton Zero Sugar Peach Iced Tea
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Sumlao's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I drink Lipton sugar free lemon tea and it's soooo goooood. It has aspartame, not sucralose, so that's a plus. Hard to find, but I love em. I didn't drink them until about 4 weeks out, tho. I stuck to warm liquids, protein shakes, and flavored water up until then. -

November 2022 Surgery Buddies
AboutDangTime replied to Crystal Leifheit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Day 6 post-op and I am feeling fantastic. Liquids are going down quite easy. Up to about 7-8 ounces an hour, easily getting my 64oz min a day. Down about 10lbs so far. I think I have been one of the really lucky ones because I have not felt the need to take 1 Tylenol since coming home (the 1st and 2nd day in the hospital I did). Incisions healing up very nicely, though still a bit bruised/tender. I don't say this to brag at all, I just want people going into this to know there are various outcomes after surgery. Don't push yourself too hard, although you need to be very conscious of what you're doing afterward. One of the ways I was able to find my limit to water intake was to start with 1 sip from a 1 ounce cup every 15 minutes. See how your body tolerates it. If it tolerates it well, then move to 1 sip every 14 minutes, then 13, and so on and so forth. It is a process but you will find your limit within the first day or two. One of the one ounce cups should probably take you 3 sips to get through, although everyone is different so test that out. If you feel a new pain after your sip, stop and let it fully go away before taking another sip. I think these steps should help anyone with their water intake. I am terrible at logging into here, but I will try hard to update as often as possible with what I have found to be helpful for me for those that would like an opinion. To everyone who has recently had or has an upcoming surgery, I wish you nothing but the best. If you have questions or would like to know anything please ask, I'm happy to share. -
Tell me about your initial consultation
qtdoll replied to SemperVeritas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My consultation was very simple/easy as my Dr was the one who brought up the surgery during an appointment about struggling with regular weight loss. We already knew I qualified. However the heavy stuff was in the 10 week class I was in (with Kaiser Permanente) they go over everything & anything! If you get the option to take classes, PLEASE take them, they are extremally helpful. My initial appointment was in May of this year & my surgery was 5 months later in Sept! -
Fixing hiatal hernia after vsg
ClareLynn replied to ClareLynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the hiatal hernia repair on Oct 28th (1.5 weeks ago). A lot of people had told me that recovery would be similar to my original DS surgery but it was a lot less awful. In hindsight, my original surgery made me a quite fail/vulnerable and I didn't recover as quickly as most people report, so I'm glad it wasn't as scary as my DS. I'm already back to eating a mix of soft foods and easy stuff like well chewed seafood. There's still some residual swelling in my esophagus so it's not easy to tell if the surgery was a total success or not yet. The surgeon said that my hernia was bigger than expected based on presurgical testing. It was supposed to be just a 2cm sliding hernia but he said it was much bigger than that when he fixed it. I have had trouble swallowing for the past 2 years, always feeling like there was something stuck in my throat. That feeling is mostly gone (though does come back sometimes). Having any reprieve from that gives me hope that once all the swelling is gone, I'll be all better. I can now drink or eat, then bend over and not have it immediately come back up though which is a big win for me. That's been a problem for nearly my entire life. So yay! -
Congratulations! And I agree 100%. The best part is I was able to return to vigorous exercise in a little over a week. Exercise makes me feel good; I am one of those that needs it to stay on track. Keep us posted on your progress!

When I went to my 6 week post op consultation ,I happened to sit in close proximity to a woman who had also had the Gastric Sleeve .She thought she looked wonderful - I thought she looked terminally ill ."I'm nearly at my wedding weight " she said proudly .I smiled and said nothing .She was the opposite of how I wanted to look .Her hair was thin and lack lustre , her skin sagging and dull .I listened in horror as she explained she was still trying to lose weight .I thought she summed up the very look I never wanted to have .Her slimness did nothing to inspire me .So I am 3 months post op .I can now walk freely , breathe better ,and I fit into my favourite jeans .I am not at my ideal BMI but if I don't lose further weight ,I'll be content .I eat more healthily and do more . So I suppose that is my story and I'm happy with it .

Nov 16 surgery date, bored of protein shakes
summerseeker replied to SageIce's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't add anything that others have not stated before me. We all suffered through it the best way we could, its brutal. You will do it with the end in your mind at all times. I believe we are all frightened to deviate because of the few people who have had their operations stopped mid surgery because their livers were still too large to do the surgery safely. It is your last week; the time will fly. Good luck -

YAY!!!! My stall officially broke!!!! It's only 3 pounds, but I gained 2 pounds during the stall so I technically lost 5 pounds and am down 3. I'm sooooo close to being below 300 for the first time in over 17 years. OMG!!!!! -

Tell me about your initial consultation
ChubRub replied to SemperVeritas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The timeline was definitely exciting! It got a little stressful the last week, b/c the hospital added a last minute requirement of a pulmonary function tests, but my surgeon's office was on top of it, and got me in to see a pulmonologist right away. As for the other people in my class....I never saw them again after that first day! LOL!! -
*Waves* Just trying to learn as much as I can before surgery. Hopefully will be next September/October. My insurance makes you wait a year before you're actually approved. Not sure if that's just to make REALLY sure you're ready for it or it's a stall tactic to get people so frustrated they just give up. Anyway, shout out to my fellow Friends of Dorothy.

Started purees yesterday, which feels like a big change. My digestive system has definitely woken up! Possibly TMI, but after two weeks of very infrequent visits to the toilet I suddenly understand why they say to try new foods at home :/ Honestly, I wish I could just stay on the clear whey powders! But I am committed to doing what the clinical team tells me, because I know my relationship with food is f*cked and they are actual experts. And I’m happy to say I’ve lost over 20lbs in the first two weeks - that plus my weight loss from the pre op diet means like I’m already almost a third of the way through my weight loss! That’s pretty crazy, but also ridiculously motivating.

One month post-op. Saw my surgeon and dietician today. Everything was good and had been able to move on to phase 3, soft foods. Total loss 74lbs since may, 21lbs post-op. I'm very happy but I have recently hit that stall that alot of you talk about. I just keep doing what I know to be right and I know it'll be ok and soon the weight will start coming off again. Overall, the 1st month wasn't too bad.

I am 7 week post op. And consume 900-1000 cal. But my nutritionist said I was ok to go up to 1200 because I was feeling woozy or tired. I have not had any complications and am down 17 BLS. Did stall for three weeks but started to drop weight again this past few days again. Remember the calories you consume today compared to what you consumed in the past. For me it is about a third . So it is good. It is a marathon not a sprint. Wishing you good health on your weight loss journey.

Majorly embarrassing moment on my first day back to work
friesianet posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
First time poster: Figured this is a group that would appreciate this….. I’m 3 weeks post surgery and am down a little bit of weight. On my first day back to work, I put on my regular work pants (stretch dress pants, 2XL). I also had put on a new body shaper (HoneyLove) because I have to wear a suit in a couple days for an important offsite meeting. I tried on the shaper this morning and decided it was best to wear it to work to get used to wearing it/break it in. Plus it’s like wearing the binder and actually helped with the discomfort from the laparoscopic sites. Problem is, I didn’t think about the combination of the weight loss + the silkiness of the body shaper meant that the loose dress pants really had nothing to cling to. They don’t have any pockets or belt loops. I walk into the front door of a very busy building, swipe my badge, and as I’m in the front lobby and beginning to walk down the hallway to the elevators, I almost trip—MY PANTS WERE AROUND MY ANKLES. Because of the legs of the body shaper shorts, I never even felt them slip down. I’m carrying things in my arms and immediately have to bend down, drop everything out of my arms, grab my pants, pull them up, then hold them up while I pick up everything off the floor. 😖🥺😳😳😳😳😳 I didn’t even look around to see how many people saw the whole thing. I just kept my head down, kept one hand clinging onto my pants with the other arm juggling my stuff and walk as fast as I can to the elevators. Had to walk around with one hand down on my side slyly gripping my pants. Felt like Bob Dole with a dead arm while I was awkwardly walking from room to room. 🤣😂 *Sigh*. Good news/bad news eh? Definitely an eventful return to work! -
pre op bowel prep
SpartanMaker replied to lov2hurdle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to do that either and I had bypass. It may depend on how severe the preop diet was? Mine was 2 weeks long and full liquids only. -
1 week post of and severe diarrhea
Mrsblacksun replied to switchwitch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It did after two and a half weeks. It was hell but as soon as it went away I got stronger everyday. I also couldn't handle protein shakes and dairy for a couple months. I believe at month 3 I was able to do dairy again and small increments. And now I'm just able to enjoy protein shakes again which is a huge help because I wasn't able to get my protein post surgery for the longest time. I still can't have a ton of them but I can handle them again. Are you having any other symptoms?? Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using BariatricPal mobile app
