Hello, Today I overslept but that was because I had to take two muscle relaxers my cramps on the pain scale are an 8 out of 10. You know the frowny face that wants to cry but won't because she's tougher than 9 or 10. I had to take the other day 1 percocet, 2 muscle relaxers and motrin and that cocktail only made me sleepy and out of pain. I know most people in our boat are told can't take motrin (ibproferin), but my doctor/surgeon said if I use motrin just be sure to take an antiacid with it if I only use it during my period which I did and no I didn't have any problems. I know too much info but my period sucks and once it came it explained why I wanted to kill my niece and nephew last weekend, my nasty sarcastic remarks, crying jags and desperate need for chocolate. I am one of the few women in the world ready for menopause. I'll take hot flashes over homicidal flashes, it's safer for everyone that way. I don't have any kids nor am I too keen on having any so I am ready for menopause. Aunt Meno can take old Aunt Flo's place anytime soon, I'll put out the welcome mat for her; Aunt Flo can go take a long walk on a short peer for all I care. Somedays, mainly one week out of each month it really sucks being a woman. But other than Aunt Flo being in town things are great. I will be going back to work on Monday only looking forward to the paycheck. Physically I am ready and mentally I am almost there. I am worried about what to pack for lunch when I go back. But I'll work it out. God bless everyone especially hormonal women.
  2. In the first 10 days post-op I lost about a pound per day! For the last 3 days, there has been no change ! Arrggh... I walk every day, and yesterday began going back to the gym. My intake has not changed, still taking in mushies and liquids. My fear is that I will remain stuck here for a long time. Anyone experience the same thing? Any advice? Thanks, in advance. Rachel

    Coffee Protein Drink

Any venti decaf skinny Starbucks latte or mocha. It will only set you back about 150 calories max, and has 10-15 grams of Protein. If you got really ambitious I bet you could pour it into a bigger cup and add some Protein powder and/or more milk. For regular coffee I have been using dry powdered nonfat milk as a creamer and protein booster.
  4. Not sure if you are counting pre Op loss if you were on a liquid diet. The first 10 pounds or so is Water weight now is the hard part. I would stay with egg whites no yolk. There are a lot of fat and cals in one egg yolk. Veggies should be less than 75 cals per serving. Are you doing any exercise? Most doctors say minimum of 30 minutes per day. I'm at restriction do 1.5-2.5 hours moderate cardio a day and loose let than 1 pound per week.

    Head Hunger

Head hunger is really hard. What I do is when I feel hungry I drink first wait about 10 minutes then if still hungry eat something smart high protein. A lot of times I get busy and forget about food. I also find it extra important to track and measure everything when experiencing. Stay strong!!
  6. I need to know what you all think I should do. I have a surgery date of April 30. I had a panic attack about 6 weeks ago. I thought I was having a heart attack and made my DH race home to take me to the hospital. It was a full blown PA. I was in the ER for 10 hours with blood work and ekg's ect.. I had just had my stress test pre lap band, and it was all fine. Anyway... I had also had my 1st of 2 visits with the shrink for the psych eval. The hospital gave me some valium and sent me home. A few days after the PA, I took my psych exam (500+ questions) and the next week I had my 2nd psych eval. And he passed me. I did not tell him about the panic attack, for fear it would keep me from getting this surgery. I also have been seeing a counselor for the last 5 years (1x a month) and I have not told her yet, she works in the same office as the shrink (he is her boss) and I am afraid she'll tell him and he will call the insurance and they will change their approval. Should I tell my counselor?? I don't think it is lap-band related. Honestly. As far as the surgery goes, I feel I am really at peace with it, even getting alot excited. At the time, many crazy things had been going on and one big thing pushed me over the edge. I also have a almost 5 year old DD and 17 month old DS and I am almost 40. AND I went from 2 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day down to 1 or 2 individual cigarettes a day. (currently 1 or 2 a week- just need to stop all together and be done with it). should I tell her after the surgery? I hate being a liar and I feel like I am leaving a big piece of my life out when I see her. I have an appointment tomorrow and I don't know if I should bite my tounge for 31 more days. Just wondering what others might do..... Thanks!

    4 Days Post Op

Please hang tough, the first few days were really rough for me... Like everyone is saying, it gets better each day! Try your best to stay hydrated the first few days post op. I'm 10 days out and feeling stronger everyday, don't get me wrong there were times I thought I regretted it too but I keep reminding myself : "I don't need easy, I just need possible "..... Keep ur chin up, praying for u!

    THC in my system?

My insurance company or hospital required blood tests and urine samples. I dont smoke or use anything so it wasnt an issue for me. They were however constantly testing me for pregnancy in spite of my iud coupled with a partner with no sperm and me telling them. In the month of July I had 10 pregnancy tests and no sex!
  9. So after researching LB for almost 10 years, i finally had the balls to get the process going. I looked into True Results because I was advised my coverage didn't cover bariatric surgery but they told me due to my hiatal hernia I would be covered for all but a $5500 out of pocket charge that would be split into 2 year payments. So.... I just got a few letters from my insurance and apparently I owe almost $30K WHAT!?

    Drop Foot

I know of at least one other cause of "drop foot", it is called peripheral neuropathy. There are two types: The most common is diabetic peripheral neuropathy, so if you have diabetes, this could be part of the progression of the disease. The second is non-diabetic peripheral neuropathy. This disease has the same progression - loss of neural signals to the voluntary muscles, usually to legs first from the bottom up. My dad has had this for over 25 years (though he was diagnosed only a little over 10 years ago), he is 80 now, and just beginning to have more severe effects - difficulty walking unassisted (has gone to using a cane) due to loss of sensation and "auto" control of his feet and lower legs, etc. For years and years, we just thought he was clumsy! He was diagnosed when he started developing drop foot. The early symptoms include restless leg syndrome, unexplained clumsiness (tripping, etc). I am sure there are probably other causes, such as specific nerve damage, etc. and some may be only temporary.
  11. Ok long story short. Had my surgery 10/16- went in for first fill dec 2nd. Flipped surgery to correct 12/9. My doc put in 2 ccs on 12/9. I don't notice much of a difference. I go back first week of January for my port follow up. Is that too soon to ask for another fill? I want to start slow I was thinking maybe asking for 1 cc, just wanted some input
  12. I'm 6 days post op and surprisingly getting my fluids in without a problem. The issue I'm having is trying to get in my Protein since I'm since in full liquid diet phase. I've never gotten more than 40 grams protein in one day which is frustrating because I know the more protein I get in - the better I'll feel. My NUT suggested protein pudding and ohmergawd it's amazing! 1 packet of sugar free vanilla instant pudding (or any flavor your little heart desires) 2 scoops of Isopure Creamy Vanilla (or which ever flavor your have) 2 cups of Skim milk Whisk for 3 minutes or until it sets. Separate into 5 small containers. Servings 5 Calories: 122 Protein: 10 g
  13. I was on the pain medicine for about 2 days. They kept me overnight in the hospital and administered it through my IV. The next day, I went home and continued a liquid form for the day. Within 5-10 minutes of taking it, I was out. The next day, I felt less pain and more just soreness. I didn't take anything that 3rd day and was fine by day 4. I still have a huge bottle of it at home. Being such a strong narcotic, I was surprised they dispensed so much for this surgery. I've always been very leary of relying to heavily on pain medicine. The kind they had me on is very addictive. I didn't take it anymore than I had to (it was Hydrocodone).

    Mexico vs. USA

That is exactly what it means!!! No supervised diets, no back and forth, no fear of rejection after you have jumped through hoop after hoop and then dealing with appeals.... In my case....even if WLS WAS covered under my health insurance, I would have only saved about 2-3k in co-pays, deductable, etc etc. (and probably came out better then with insurance if I would have gone with the cheaper docs in MX.) The only diet you will do is the pre-op diet to get you ready for surgery (mine is high Protein, low carb for 10 days prior). I'm kinda glad I'm self-pay. I call the shots! I do things on MY terms and on MY time and because the money is coming out of my own pocket....it is just more motivation to not waste all that $$. I'm scheduled with Dr. Aceves for 08-27-10 and I pay $8750 plus airfare - that's covers everything! Good luck to you!

    Mexico vs. USA

I just came back from gastric sleeve plication surgery on 07/23/10 in Mexico with Dr. Lopez Corvala. My BMI was 39 when I went for surgery, and weight was 231lbs. I did NOT have to do a pre op diet, or any type of classes. I did choose to attend a webinar on this procedure that totally convinced me I was making the right choice for me. It went into details of the procedure, and how it is done. The self pay price was $8,000 and included 2 days in Hospital Angeles which was beautiful, and very quiet! Of course air fare is additional, and I flew to San Diego from Fort Lauderdale, FL. I have only weighed once since the procedure, and at that time I had lost 8 lbs 2 ozs. Next weigh in is Friday! I can say that I had no problems with the surgery post op. I am also now eating mushy, soft food and having no difficulties at all. This is a slightly differant procedure than the VSG, but much less invasive. Just wanted to give you a differant perspective in case you haven't heard about this procedure. It is fairly new, and no staples or cutting of the stomach. For me, it was the best decision, as I have very little hunger, and feel full on less than 4 ozs of food. Penny

    Day 4 of preop diet

It is completely normal to be absolutely miserable during the pre-op. Day 4 was probably the worst for me and then I kind of got "over the hump" and settled into it (grudgingly) for the remaining 10 days (mine was 15 days). I am not going to sugar-coat it. These next few weeks are going to be some of the hardest of your life. I'm sure you are experiencing a lot of anxiety and stress about the upcoming surgery on top of dealing with the misery of the pre-op diet. Once you've had the surgery, the recovery is not a lot of fun. You will be sore, tired, thirsty, and very emotional. You need to just focus on living one minute to the next in this little stretch here. There are a lot of things you will need to do to stay on top of... your sipping, your Protein intake, your Vitamins, and your walking. So focus on those things and doing them when you need to be doing them. It will seem like it drags on FOREVER, but then in a few weeks, you'll look back and not be able to believe how far you've come. Hang in there! And no matter what, hold onto the knowledge that it WILL all be worth it in the end and you WILL feel normal again. I promise!

    Sugar free hot chocolate

Organic powdered cold press cocoa 2tbsp and two tbsp of Splenda or equivalent . Splash of vanilla almond milk and hot water calories 70 for cocoa 10 for almond milk cool it a bit and add protein powder or liquid
  19. A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. What You Can Do About a Stall or Plateau If a patient is experiencing a post-op weight loss stall or plateau further out there are a few possible causes. First, check that are you really in a stall. If the scale has stopped moving you may be losing inches, so check your measurements.

    Low vitamin d, please help!

My vitamin D level was 10 before surgery and they didn't postpone it. Just increased the vitamin D supplement I was already going to start post-op.

Need info on Bryant tx fill place.

Hello, I am replying to your inquiry about Dr. Stephanie and fills. Believe it or not, I just got an email today (10-03-2007) about your request. I see that you made this request back in (May of 2006) So I am sure that you have had a fill by now. I too live in South Louisiana and travel to Dr. Stephanies for my fills. I am scheduled for my second fill this Saturday. I probably will need another one in about 6 to 8 weeks, so If you are still interested in traveling with me, just email me and let me know. Thanks so much, best wishes, and God Bless! momagrant@yahoo.com

    Buddy wanted:)

Hello! I have researched LapBand surgery for about a year. I just met with my surgeon last week. I am now in the process of getting everything I need done, bloodwork, nutritionist, etc. I would love to have a buddy along the way:) I am married with a 10 year old daughter. My goal is to have surgery this summer, but not sure that it will happen that fast.
  24. I'm 11 months out of sleeve surgery. I came to build a routine in what I eat, and I absolutely enjoy every meal. Even if it's exactly the same as yesterday. I love it. Here's what I eat in a day (and the day after, and the one after.... 🙂 Breakfast: 2 eggs, 4 oz of diced lean ham (pork or turkey, or a turkey patty), 1 oz leek, 1 oz sweet peppers, all scrambled together. Add 6-8 cherry tomatoes and an espresso with 1 oz of 2% milk. Lunch: 5 oz of lean meat (chicken breast, pork loin, beef sirloin) grilled or pan seared, 2 cups of shredded fresh cabbage, one tablespoon of light mayonnaise Dinner: 5 oz of fish (cod, mahi, salmon, tuna, shrimp) and 1 cup of sliced zucchini or snap peas, all pan seared together, plus one Danon Light&Fit yogurt. That's about 1100 calories a day. Throw in the occasional apple or cup of berries, and it's 1200 calories, all in. And that's ALL I've been eating for the last 10 months. The only variation is the type of meat or fish I have. Or what flavor yogurt I choose. I'm not bored, and I look forward to every meal. It makes it easy to shop for and cook. Do yourself a huge favour and throw away ALL the crisps, cakes and any other greasy or sugary snacks you may have in the house. Then don't buy them again. If you really must snack, bite into an apple, or chew on a carrot. It keeps the mouth busy, without adding much caloric content. Oh, and I drink a gallon of water a day, to stave off constipation. Hang in there, believe in yourself, and maybe talk to a therapist or a friend about it.
