  1. I can't imagine there being a direct link between the two, though it would not be unreasonable for it to be a result, at least in part, of the weight loss and a shifting center of gravity - altered posture as your shape and balance changed. Similar questions occasionally come up in our support group, which is comprised mainly of veterans 10-20 years out - "I'm having this and such problem - is it related to the WLS?" and the usual answer is that while there might be some connection, it isn't common and the overriding factor is that you are fifteen years older, and these things happen as we age... I have known people who have engaged a kinesiologist as they were losing to help them with their balance as their weight shifted with the loss. This might be part of your solution - in addition to any surgical or other medical intervention that the docs may advise - a professional to evaluate your posture and movement to see if that is a factor in your pain,
  2. Hi, My surgery for gastric sleeve was 10/23 and I keep having these hunger pains as if I’m not eating enough... but I’m trying to figure out are they actually hunger pains or something else.. can someone please help that experienced this... thank you!!
  3. Congratulations Brendizzal! I had my sleeve on the 10/22/19 also. Move, sip, move, sip and repeat. I also was prescribe liquid pain medicine to take as needed, if that didn't.

  6. Hello I hope you find your procedure everything you hoped it will be, I can tell you about my experience and hope it gives you some peace going into yours. I had my surgery 9/11/19 Can you run down exactly what you went through whilst in hospital? - Surgery check in was normal and pre op was as expected. registration, Started IV, medical history, then the surgeon came in and told me the would be giving me a sedative before going to the operating room. After the medication was pushed I remember waking up in my room with a dry mouth and being thirsty. The pain notice of pain didn't happen until a few hours later, but just a word to the wise stay on top of your medications and advocate for your medicines while they have you up and walking after surgery. Take small sips of water and walk. They gave me a 1 oz "shot glass" and told me to fill 3 to 4 an hour while in the hospital How did you feel in the first few days to weeks.. Where you able to drink much Water? Did you feel hungry much?- I am now a few weeks post surgery and have just noticed 2 days ago that I was hungry for the first time, but I was full almost immediately. I think I have associated hunger with thirst too, so I realized I was behind in my H2O. I don't think hunger is a big factor, at least at first. I hope it is a long term thing, but that would be too good to be true. Was the pain bearable? - I will be honest - sometimes the pain took my breath away - but that was my own fault. I was trying to be brave and not take the medications provided. I would recommend not doing that. You don't have to suffer if you stay on top of it. I made sure I had some liquid Tylenol on hand too so I could transition off the strong stuff without too much of an issue. I was told nothing bigger than a tic tac for the first 6 weeks as far as medications go, so follow what your docs say. It sounds like other docs don't give that same advise. And in the first weeks or months are you still feeling restrictions on how much you can eat or drink in one go? I always have a Protein2o or a shake in my purse. I am happy with the restrictions, and love the fact that I can go virtually all day without having to stop for food somewhere. how we're meant to get enough Protein if unable to drink much liquids? protein shakes - post surgery I used protein shots I found on Baritric pal store. these were strong in flavor so I diluted them with 1 oz of water so a 2oz 16g protein shot - https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/bariatric-predigested-protein-liquid-protein/products/liquacel-liquid-protein-1oz-packets-available-in-5-flavors -

    Manga gastrica

¡Hola!
  10. I am going crazy. I had my surgery 10/22. I feel no different. I have no trouble drinking, getting my protein in anything. Is there something wrong with me? I have been having my soups clear liquids. Am I doing something wrong? Can I have pudding at this stage? I am so confused and overwhelmed.

    Nervous about revision

I was suffering from January 2019 after a round of steroids, until my revision from sleeve to bypass on 9/11/19. I will honestly say I am very thankful I had made the decision to proceed with the surgery regardless of any possible drawbacks. After 9 months of progressively being able to eat less and less food, sleeping in a chair, to not sleeping at all unless I was at an almost 90 degree angle; the surgery has given me back my life. 1 week after surgery I was able to sleep at a 45 degree angel and 2 weeks after surgery I was finally able to convince myself to try to sleep at an almost flat position. I am now 6 weeks out and I have finally had a week of real sleep after 9+ months of "naps". Like most of everyone who opts originally for the sleeve, I was worried about the bypass dumping syndrome, which unfortunately I have learned the realness of, and how to avoid it at all costs. ( quick lesson - avoid all sugars real and artificial), but I still have the fear of losing too much weight, malabsorbtion, and osteoporosis. I still haven't started solid food for fear of the GERD coming back, but I was told if I were to stay on the high dose pantoprazole for long term it would contribute to osteoperosis, which was my absolute defining calalyst to finally agreeing to the surgery. If you are on the fence, determine what kind of quality of life you wan, then if you are willing to make the changes to achieve it. I knew I wanted to be able to walk independently and not need to be using a cane or wheelchair when I retire, especially if I could make better food choices and take vitamins after surgery to prevent it now. Good luck with your decision.

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

Hello all! I had my RNY on 10/18. I have been pleasantly surprised by my recovery. The weekend of surgery there was soreness of course, but by Tuesday I was relatively pain-free. My twin sister also had a RNY, but 2 years before I did.I was concerned about nausea but didn't experience any. I think I didn't because of the way my doctor did my leak test vs. the way hers did. I went to the farmers market with my family this morning and had no problems getting around. I hope everyone is doing well on their journey.

    STALL :(

I'm in a pre-op stall right now. I'm tracking all my food and eating between 1000-1300 calories a day, drinking lots of water and getting protein in. I'm wondering if maybe I need to up to 1500 calories a day? For reference, I'm almost 5'10 and still over 300... It's been about 10 days this time (second stall since July)...

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

I know I am not eating the best foods nutritionally but feel like I have to get in some easy to eat carbs to get the calories i need in. I was bouncing around with a 1-2 pound loss the past month but according to the scale this am dropped another pound. 8am-- premier shake with .5 c milk (1%) 9am- Bevita breakfast crackers (carbs and has vitamins, fiber etc) 11am - egg with olive oil, 1c spinach, and slice of cheese of 1/4c shredded cheese 1pm- yogurt sometimes with a sprinkle of granola or a few berries or 1/3 c granola cereal with 1/4 c milk now I start pushing fluids since I often feel no desire to eat because it felt like work to get all of the above in 3pm --12-16 oz milk 4:30- RX bar or some triscuits or another yogurt if I feel too full to eat/chew 5:30- 2oz meat and 1/3 c veggies and literally a tablespoon of the carb side my family eats so 1-2 french fries or a tablespoon of noodles etc- again I feel like this is work to sit down and get all of this in 7:30-- 12 oz milk 9:30-- this is not good but I am usually low on calories and carbs so 2 sheets of graham crackers sometimes 6 triscuits with 2T of hummus, maybe a tablespoon of peanut butter 10-11pm- pumpkin seeds (150 calories), maybe a 1/3 c of berries Total ends up around 1400 calories, aiming for and usually getting close to my goal 40% carb, 30% protein (around 90-100g) 30%fat Things i am not happy with- feeling the need to graze all day, eating triscuits and graham crackers vs a healthier carb, having to feel like I am forcing myself to eat a tablespoon of peanut butter or other foods at night when i see I need extra calories, fat or carbs etc. My focus has been on trying to slow down weight loss. I feel way too bony and went to see a PS re an arm lift this week (for spring surgery) and he mentioned I don't have a lot of fat left on me. I think I need to find some healthier foods that are pre-made and easy to grab and have a small serving. I am not going to cook something just to get a few bites of it.
  16. Hello everyone! how are you? I had my endoscopic over stich RNY Revision on 10/15/2019. I weighed 290lbs on the day of procedure and I now weigh 277lbs. I'm on 6 weeks of liquids (shakes) and then afterwards I can progress onto soft foods, etc. has anyone else had this procedure done as well? If so how's it going for you? any updates?
  17. I had surgery on Wednesday 10/23, have been doing good so far. Today was the worst and it wasn’t that bad. Took one pain pill today. I stayed one night in the hospital and have been doing good sipping liquids. Sometimes, especially at first swallowing hurt in my stomach, not my throat. Now it only slightly hurts if I sip too much too often. I have not been hungry at all. I know that might change when the swelling goes down, but I like not being hungry. So far so good! Also, probably TMI but I wish I would’ve waited on the stool softener. They offered me two in the hospital and I took them. Went a lot yesterday and being a big girl it was harder to get clean and very uncomfortable. Lol I obviously got clean but it wasn’t pleasant. Wish I would have waited a few days.

    October 2019 surgery peeps?

October 10th any other October 2019 out there!
  19. Okay so 19 pounds down in 7 weeks isn’t all that bad. I was down 24 in the same time period. Start measuring if you haven’t already. The measurements will show you losing in ways that the scale won’t at times. I started TRE at about 8 weeks PO, because I was making myself physically ill trying to eat breakfast and then struggling to get water in. It’s still been a struggle some days to get in enough protein and I sometime turn to shakes to make up the difference. Once I decided to not struggle to force food into my sleeve (I mean the whole point of this thing was to reduce intake and here I was trying to eat to conform to some “norm” I thought I needed to chase after) and once I decided to not break fast most days til after 11am, my loss really started to take off. So if you really can get in all of your protein at 7 weeks, then try 16:8 TRE. Use the fasting times to get in as much water as possible and I think you’ll be fine.
  20. I had my psych appt today and she indicated no concerns. Met with the nurse and all medical tests are done and good. Now back to the surgeon to sign off and then schedule. They told me it could take up to 2 weeks to hear back but an early December appt is likely. Anyone else looking at first or second week of December? Lori
  21. yeah its not working for me though. I am only down (somehow I gained a 1.5 lbs ???) 19 lbs since my surgery. Which is absurd on the amount of calories i eat and exercise. I get in my water and protein no problem. Ive actually never had an issue getting in all of my protein since week 2. And i could drink all my water and i mean 64 oz since day 5... Its nuts but i can actually chug water .... the past two days i have hit a gallon of water. So no issue there and yet the weight loss is slower than a snail. its taking every ounce in me to not want to give up and scream to the gods, the inequity of it all. So yeah now i am trying IF. That what help me lose the weight pre surgery (and i didnt even count calories I ate what I wanted and i was OMAD). i cant be OMAD now bec no way can get in all of my calories but I'm going to try eating them all within 4-5 hrs... and then water the rest of the day... and my DR is useless. he just says stick to 500 calories and the weight will come off. well i have- and it hasn't so.... here we are.
  22. I had surgery 10/14, and I will be honest: I am both encouraged and struggling. I am down 19 pounds PS, and was down 14 lbs from liver reduction diet pre surgery. I was in the hospital just one night, which was great, and up walking PS within hours. One thing that I wish I would have had at home was an elevated toilet seat like at the hospital. Transition to the lower, standard seat at home was ROUGH that first week. I didn't use a single thing that I packed for the hospital. I had read forums and blog posts about what to bring, and so must have been over prepared. Since I have been home, I have been struggling with no appetite. I'm meeting all of my goals regarding liquid intake and protein intake, but it is a battle. Still, the pluses way outweigh the deficits. Sent from my SM-G935P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Day 2

Today is my day 2. Surgery was 10/23/19. I came home from the hospital yesterday and I am in sooooo much pain. I have been drinking water but thats it. I tried to drink a pre-made premier shake and couldn't keep it down. I also tried to drink a vitamin water and could not keep it down. I'm not able to sit up. I can only lay prompt up on pillows. I am taking my vitamins as I write this...so far so good. How long will this pain last. I haven't passed gas yet but I keep beeping alot. Any thoughts Sent from my LM-X420 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Monthly loss amount

It’s so hard not to compare, I can still put away food if I graze and I know that’s not using the tool we have so everyone will vary and our bodies all hold weight differently and out exercise levels etc. First month I assume is the best, then will get to find out normal. I’d be good with 10-14 per month but will have to see; so far 21 month 1 but don’t expect that every month as lush as it would be
  25. Hi I had my Gastric Bypass surgery on 08.08.19, I wasn't nervous about it but excited to finally be getting it done. Hospital was fine, walked into my operating theatre and met the army of doctors and nurses, it was all very relaxed, music playing in the background, my surgeon came over and spoke to me and then the Anaesthetist came and told me what was happening and that was it, I was probably only in there for a few minutes before going to sleep. The surgery went well, I actually felt very well after surgery and went home after only spending 2 days and 1 night, I didn't feel much pain at all, it was a little uncomfortable and had to watch how I stood up or got on and off the bed etc but nothing out of the ordinary and what you would expect after surgery. Sleep as much as you can when you come home and walk when you're awake. The pain after surgery was totally bearable, while in hospital they gave me Oramorph which was fabulous and then told me to take pain meds for the next week, I actually stopped them after 2 days, didn't feel like I needed them, but everyone is different. With regards to your food intake what I would say is follow the plan with food, don't rush any of the stages, I didn't push how much I ate as I was scared that I may stretch my pouch (even though have been told this would be very hard to do) or something worse. You will know when you have had enough, it's a different kind of full, it's not in your stomach, you feel full in your chest/throat (hard to explain) but literally you will feel like you cannot get anything else down. You will learn to stop before you get to this stage as its uncomfortable. If it does happen lay down until it passes. I found it difficult eating if I was bent over, you need to be upright for the food to pass. The eating phases that you will go through become very tedious and you really want to rush through them but don't, these are what help you heal better and quicker, I know for myself after being on the milk diet for 2 weeks pre op all I wanted was some' normality' but you actually don't feel like eating much. Im now 10 weeks post op and can eat 'normal' food but in very small quantities. I had a follow up last week with the hospital and had been feeling very nauseous, this is apparently very common, I was prescribed anti sickness meds which have stopped it now. My nurse told me that it's better to eat 5-6 small portions every 3-4 hours when feeling like this, which I have started doing and the sickness has gone. I have tried different foods and some have not agreed with me so I know not to eat them again just yet. You have to adjust to your boundaries and what you can and can't eat anymore. If you're having the Gastric Bypass, which is what I had you have no cravings and you don't get any hunger pains, this was the first thing that I noticed after the surgery. I was told that I wouldn't feel hungry but as someone that has had a weight problem most of my life it was hard to believe this but it's 100% true, I love the fact that I don't get hungry but this you also have to pay attention to and make sure that you eat enough protein otherwise the day goes by and you realise that you haven't eaten, especially if you have a busy or demanding job. I get mine from High protein Greek yogurts, eggs, chicken, high protein peanut butter. I eat very low carbs and fats. On the 2nd phase i started drinking protein shakes, I hated them but they were so high in protein that at least i knew i was getting enough, try mixing with milk if too thick. The hardest part for me is not being able to drink much and not drink while eating, this is what I find the biggest challenge is getting the fluids in but I think most people will tell you this, it's important to keep your water bottle near and constantly sip all day, try adding some 'no sugar' lemon or blackcurrant, this helped me. I still don't think that hospitals give you enough information regarding eating after surgery and most of what I have done has been through my own research, have bought a few Bariatric cookbooks to help too You will be fine, just follow the doctors orders, good luck for Monday
