Rumbling stomach when I sip liquid
Rebecca Jo Ragon replied to icunightingale's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have the "gurgling" as I call it as well. It is usually when my stomach is empty and I am trying to get a bunch of Water in because I am behind. As I recall, it took much less to get the gurgling early on. I am 3 weeks out. Small sips do not gurgle anymore. It is when I am taking larger drinks too fast and probably getting some air in. I would give it a couple more weeks for your pouch to settle down from all the trauma and then see if it is still happening with sips. Hopefully you can move on to more normal size drinks and they will go down just fine. -
One year out and stalled out!! Very depressed and stressed! Gained 10# when I had to move in with my mother before the holidays. Life still isn’t normal for me, probably never will be but I’m scared of failing this - seems like I fail at everything! I could use some pointers on what to do in order to get back on track! One year out and I’m only 65# down!! Any advice is much appreciated!

GPS Update - Last week's bariatric conference
DrWatkins posted a topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Last week was the MISS Conference (Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium) in Salt Lake City, UT . The first part of the week is laparoscopic general surgery and the latter part of the week is the bariatric surgery section. There was a lot of enthusiasm and interest surrounding gastric plication. It is now a hot topic on the agenda of these meetings and the interest is growing substantially. There was a GPS course at the meeting and surgeons advertising future courses at their institutions. We have begun GPS training courses as well. There are a lot of surgeons wanting to learn how to do GPS and offer it to their patients. The GPS is still considered experimental/investigational since there is no long-term data in the U.S. There is longer-term data internationally that looks good and a couple of surgeons in the U.S. like us are seeing good weight loss averages with the procedure but it is certainly an early stage technology. There were surgeons at the meeting who felt that this procedure looks promising but is not ready for prime time yet due to the absence of long-term data and there were surgeons like myself at the meeting who have experience with the procedure and have successful patients and we feel it is a good operation with the caveat of long-term data. What I see is that patients are driving the interest in GPS because it doesn't involve implants, staples or intestinal malabsorption. It is wonderfully simple - it's just your stomach, only smaller. I have also been fixing plication cases done by other surgeons so I feel strongly about proper technique. I will keep you updated as we gain information on this new procedure. -
I was in the hospital three days. Started sipping water almost immediately. I make my own protein shakes with recipes from the bariatric foodie cookbook.

My roommate and I went to Disney last year and she was on her 2 week pre-surgery diet. Those folks at Disney went above and beyond to accomodate her needs! One place made a chicken broth from scratch for her while we waited. They sure know how to make you feel like they care! They even have a special phone number to call if you are planning on visiting so that they can accomodate your needs at virtually any restaurant.

Remember the song? The knee bone connected to the, thigh bone... Well, our phrenic nerve is connected to our Lap Band! Actually, the stomach is. With so many of us having shoulder pain, I wonder if this is the cause, rather than gas? I'm adding a post of mine from another thread here because I thought this subject needs its own thread. "Based on my personal observations (no "gas" pains post-op) and the many posts on this forum, I seriously doubt that pain in the shoulder is gas. If it were, why do I get it only after a fill? I'm not the only one this happens to, either. From what I can tell, again, based on others' posts - and after speaking with my doc - the band, at least for a few days to a week after installation - and sometimes fills - applies pressure to the phrenic nerve, which causes the shoulder pain. For additional information, Google "phrenic nerve gastric band". "

TOM made a huge difference for me as well. I have always lost in fits and starts throughout the banding journey. The only time time I lost regularly was the first several weeks. My weight loss graph shows plateau, dip, plateau, dip and repeats repeatedly throughout banding. The only difference now that I am pretty much at goal is that the changes are a lot slower and the losses smaller. I always had a steady decline a week or sometimes more right after a new fill. Right now I have been holding steady for about of month . . . but I am half unfilled for being preggers and I went on a three week vacation in the middle east where I ate whatever I wanted. Even with all that, I don't seem to be gaining for which I am very grateful.

Smooshed cauliflower made me giggle like a little girl when I ate it last week. I'm going to smoosh some more this week.

I never loose any weight 2 weeks before my TOM. I always loose my weight the 2 weeks after.

Yes, my weight does this as well! My weight is up and down ... up and down the same 3 lbs and then BAM, I'll drop 3-4 lbs over night and keep it off permanently. I had to get an unfill yesterday because I hadn't been able to eat correctly for the last 2 weeks. My body was stuck and going into starvation mode. I was able to eat a chicken salad last night and then I weighed this morning and I lost a few lbs... I think because my body finally got nourishment.

I workout 3-4 times a week, but the exercise doesn’t move the scale. What I do feel it has done for me is build strength, stamina, flexibility and balance. While I can’t back this up with facts, it does feel like working out has supported me in keeping my metabolism from crashing into survival mode. But who knows. I do HIT 2x week, yoga 1x week and 4th workout is either urban hiking or another HIT or yoga class.

It is very common for people in weeks 3 and 4 to stall and not lose any weight. I think it is because you lost weight quickly after surgery and your body needs to "catch up" to all the significant changes and the trauma from the surgery. Don't worry about it, keep following your doctor's program for Protein, Water, and exercise and you will be back on the losing track in no time!

I start my 3rd week tomorrow I haven't lost 1 lb And anything I eat nothing makes me sick my stomach is a little bloated today, can that be a sign of a leak? Why does nothing make me sick? I'm freezing, and still weak but why am I not losing???

Hi Michelle, I had the same diagnosis as you. I think they called it (and I'm going to butcher the spelling here) chondromalasia. I think that word just means generalized knee pain. But the orthopedic surgeon sent me to physical therapy first. The physical therapist showed me how my knee cap was not tracking in the right groove any more. It VERY common in women because of the angle at which the thigh bone meets the knee. Anyway, she expalined that basically, there is the quadricept (one of the biggest, toughest, strongest muscles in the body) pulling on the outside edge of your kneecap. While the only thing counter balancing it, to keep the knee cap in line, is this teeny tiny skinny little muscle called the VMO pulling on the inner edge. I went to physical therapy three times per week for six or eight weeks and they (and I) worked on strengthening my VMO. At the end of the sessions, it was like magic. Pain GONE. And I mean COMPLETELY!!! See if you can look into some physical therapy before you opt for surgery. I don't know why the weight loss would make it worse, but it can't hurt to ask. Good luck. LizzyD

Hiya Lynsay, I Get My Band Fitted On 15th Nov At Bromsgrove. I Am Constantly Thinking About Food (nothin New There Lol) But With A Bmi Of 47 Have Been Told That I Have To Lose A Stone Before The Op And Also The Week Before Go On A Milk & Yoghurt Diet. Its Going To Kill Me As I Will Be On A Shopping Break To New York 8-13 Nov With Only 1 Day To Recover From The Flight. Have You Not Been Advised To Lose Any Weight Or Go On Any Specail Diets? I Wasnt Very Pleased At The Though Of Having To Diet Before They Would Operate As Thats Why I Need The Band. Good Luck, Flatz

I used to weigh myself daily, but now I do it weekly. That way, I don’t feel like I’m stalling.

Spicy foods and hot sauce
MissMac2 replied to oldmike's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could tolerate mild salsas at six weeks, but at two years jalapenos and hot peppers are still a no-go. Even if I could follow them with something to quench the fire, my little tummy can't hold enough to make a difference. -
Spicy foods and hot sauce

I eat spicy food and did from 6 weeks on. My tastes have not changed, but since I eat so little I am really picky about quality. -
After Surgery - How Long Before You Feel Back To Normal?
MyGastricSleeveLife replied to ConnieSings's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone is different, so it's hard to say. I was 5 weeks out on Monday & got a surge of energy that hasn't gone away yet. I'm finally feeling better than my old self especially since it's easier to do things without the added weight (I've lost 33 lbs since pre-op). I guess it depends on how much energy you want. I was okay to do things by week 2 or 3, but still did things slowly and still took one or two naps and went to bed early until just this week. -
Mystery of all mysteries... I just ran a report for the last week of my recorded data from my Link. Calculating my calorie deficits for the last week, I should have lost 3.53 pounds over the last 7 days, and you know, my measured loss was 3.6 pounds. I love it when my body does what I tell it to! And I particularly love it when my gadgets are accurate! (This has not been a paid presentation for the Bodymedia Fit Link... I promise!)

When Does Hunger Kick In?
TheGirlInThePinkScarf replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon doesn’t handle my diet and he never has, my nutritionists do. And their plan for me is that after week 2, no more protein shakes for me period. They emphasize getting my protein from whole food sources from now on. So, I'm trying to follow their plan. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -
I am 2 weeks out and every time I get on the scale the number is lower. Once or twice it's been the same, but never HIGHER! When has that ever happened in my life? Nearly never! What a wonderful Christmas miracle that has been made available to all of us so we can get started on a losing journey! I already barely remember the pain and discomfort and am now just looking forward to being cleared to work out. I never could have done this on my own and I'm just so grateful!!!!!!!!!!!
