  1. I used to have active hobbies like gardening but since I was diagnosed with arthritis in my spine (all over my body, really) I can’t do things I used to be able to do. I was very depressed for a long time because I had to leave my job I loved because of all the pain. That was three years ago and since then I’ve found other things to do that make me happy. I go to the pool and just walk around in the waist deep water to move my legs (I had a hip replacement recently.) I have gotten really good at needlework/ cross-stitching and have completed some beautiful projects. It took awhile to change my mindset and now I focus on my health and eating well. I’m able to focus on tracking my food which has allowed me to gain control over my eating/ calorie consumption. I’ve lost 80 lbs and I have 50 more to go. We all can do this!❤️

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Hey guys!!! I'm new here, honesty had no idea that Bariatric Pal had a Forum haha. I am 6 weeks post-op, RNY on 6/27/02022. I am down 33lbs since the surgery date and am in an awful stall!! is anyone else going through a stall?

    3 week stall

Thank you for posting. I was just searching the forum for a post about the 3 week stall. I am currently 6 weeks post-op and have been stalled from week 3- the current. I know all the FB support groups etc warn you about the 3-week stall, but I have been so discouraged watching the scale not move for 2.5 weeks. I keep my net carbs at below 35 a day, my calorie intake is usually between 550-700 calories a day. My protein is always between 70-90 grams a day. And for the most part, I reach 64+ oz of water. i don't know what else to do to break the stall. I did lose 1.3lbs in the last 24 hours, so I'm hoping that's a sign I'm back in the game and will see the scale changing again.

    This seems too easy...

Mine has been very smooth as well. I was ready to go home about 6 hours post op and had to wait what seemed like forever to get out of there the next day and get on with it! I'm almost 5 weeks post op now and those first few days feel like ages ago. I've had no issues with getting my fluids or protein in from the get go. I've stopped having any incisional pain and hopefully will get the clear soon to work out harder (more weight, planks, core exercises etc). Still taking that part easy until follow up next week.
  5. Surgery date Sept 1, 2022. I have an appt of August 15 and should start the pre-op diet 2 weeks before the surgery date. I am looking forward to sharing this new lifestyle with Sept Buddies.

    August surgery buddies!

Ahhh this gives me hope. I've been having this issue this week. It wakes me out of my sleep its so painful. Its only lasts seconds but sucks none the less.

    August surgery buddies!

After my VSG, I had to do clear liquids for about a week or so and then two weeks of regular liquids until my follow up with my doctor. After that appointment they released me to move on to very soft, puréed foods. I found the puréed stage difficult because I wasn’t sure what to make! I watched lots of YouTube videos about making foods in different stages. And trying to get a lot of protein was very difficult (still is for me!)
  8. I had my surgery on 22/12/2021 and have since lost 35kg/77pounds and i’m sticking under 100g of net carbs 55-60 protein struggling though and aim to never exceed 1200 calories and i still haven’t touched fizzy drinks though i’m realllly struggling to stay away from sweets i used to not be a fan of chocolate and other treats but liked savoury more however I now find myself reaching a lot for chocolate however I recently have been more aware and trying to have less i have gained 2 pounds however I will be losing it and more but I think i’m on stall currently but i’m very happy that I did this surgery and now live quite a normal life compared to before!!

    Caffeine!!!!

My program only eliminated caffeine during the pre-op diet and 2 weeks post-op, but decaf was allowed, so I just made the switch temporarily. I did wean myself off of creamer and use half & half with a little sugar free syrup now. I do drink way less than I did pre-op though, In the past, I would drink coffee much of the day, cut with water occasionally. Now I really focus on my water after my morning cup of coffee.
  10. Food tolerances definitely can change post-op. If you aren't tolerating eggs well, take a break for a few weeks and try again later. There is no requirement to eat any specific food, especially if it is upsetting your stomach or making you sick. If you are tolerating cheese well, have you tried cottage cheese? That is a great source of protein and is often well tolerated. Canned tuna, soy (soy beans, soy milk, tofu, etc), and deli meat can all be good sources of protein and are often well tolerated. As far as protein drinks, have you tried protein waters like Protein2o? I liked those much better than shakes when I was first post-op. You could also try a vegan protein powder and see if that works better for you. If you continue to not be able to hit your protein goals, definitely reach out to your team. Making sure you get enough protein is critical to not losing lean muscle mass and developing nutritional deficiencies, They should be able to provide support & guidance to help keep you on track!

    August surgery buddies!

Hey everyone! My surgery was August 4th so I’m 5 days post op today. I’m doing pretty good! I was outpatient at Blossom in Vegas. I was one of the lucky ones with virtually zero pain - just some mild discomfort. I don’t know if that was because I was diligent with walking, having my husband use the massage gun on my back and/or using my massage/vibrating heating pad (has these little parts that go over your shoulders and covers the whole back - feels amazing). While I had no pain I have definitely been nauseas. So bad after taking pills I stopped all of them the night of surgery, but now live with a constant 2/3 out of 10. I’m sure it’ll go away.. just frustrating. I have 2 weeks off work so I’m just taking it easy. Any other surgery buddies? How are you doing??
  12. It's a learning curve. Apparently a lot of people struggle with eggs and dairy. Sometimes it passes. Things you like before surgery you sometimes can't stand after and vise versa. My team says, try again in a few weeks if there is something you can't tolerate. Luckily I didn't really have any issues transitioning back into a normal diet. You got this, just be patient!

  14. I had the same problem right after surgery for two and a half weeks. It sucks and I'm sorry your going through it Dr blamed it on a bug but everything tested normal. I ended up getting a banana bag and postassium because I couldn't keep anything in. Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 2022 peeps!

I had RNY July 20th. At my one week checkup I had lost 10 lbs. I weigh myself weekly and the last 2 weeks I haven't lost anything. 0 lbs in 2 weeks. Living off soft foods and have low energy levels for what? I'm starting college on the 29th and was hoping to have lost some weight by then. My mood has been all over the place. I've been crying and am regretting this surgery so badly.

Thank you so much @Arabesque! It’s nice to know that im not alone. I honestly don’t have much problem drinking, i’m trying to stick to 4oz at a time every 20min or so. According to my dietitian, im already starting week 2. Which im allowed to have sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt, and fat free milk. And also campbells soup! i can’t wait for next week, im badly craving a tuna sandwich! 😅 How many month/ years are you in post op?

    Pre op blood screenings

I had a blood test as part of my pre surgical check (height, weight, ECG, etc.) three days before my surgery. I believe it was a pretty broad test (CBC, lipids, metabolic, nutrient, etc.). I remember they took several vials & they still do. This initial test formed the base line then for the subsequent post surgical blood tests.

    August surgery buddies!

Hi there! My surgery (gastric sleeve) date is August 22nd. I'm 5'7" and haven't stepped on a scale in 6 months, but judging by how my clothes fit compared to the last time I did, I'm probably around 390 pounds. The next 2 weeks has me on protein shakes + a small meal a day. Today I had my blood drawn. Phone consult with the anesthesiologist is Friday. I think tomorrow or Wednesday is also my pre-op consult with my surgeon. I have severe arthritis in my knees after 4 decades of chronically dislocating knees, and with the weight on top of that, I'm in so much pain and can barely move. Pre-diabetic from a family with diabetes. High blood pressure. Depression. I really look forward to less pain and more mobility. I used to be such an athletic person, but I'd settle for being able to walk without wincing even with a cane. I know it's not going to be an easy road, but neither is living like this. I just want it to be a longer and healthier road....

    Day 6 full liquid on

Same as @kcuster83. I could have eggs at the start of week 3 in puree stage. Just had to be runny scrambled eggs or boiled eggs mashed with Mayo. But, yes some people struggle with eggs to begin: they just don’t sit well or taste unpleasant. What does your plan say? PS - Congrats on your surgery. I had a lot of swelling too & then my back spasmed so I had three nights in hospital. I found warm drinks more soothing & easier to sip.

    August surgery buddies!

I can’t believe the day is getting so close. It feels like yesterday that my doctor first suggested the surgery and here 7 months later and I start my two weeks of liver-shrinking diet on Friday. Sucks that my hubby’s birthday falls two days before surgery, but I’m confident that I can do this. So lucky to have him on board with me, he’s been looking up foods I can eat if we go out during the diet lol “I know us, we’re not going to eat at home every night.” His words 🤣 I’ve had a few nervous freak outs and I’m sure the nerves will only get worse as it gets closer, but I’m all in and so looking forward to the other side. Since hubby was diagnosed with diabetes in May, we’ve been really careful about what we eat and I’ve already lost around 35lbs, so I know that with the surgery, it will only get easier (though by no means do I consider this the easy way)!

    July 2022 peeps!

Hello, I am new to the community. I had my sleeve on 07/19/2022. The first 2 days were HORRIBLE! However that 3rd day was tolerable. I am now 4 weeks out and I'm struggling with how to put my meals together to get my proteins.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Stalls are the absolute worst. They shake your faith in EVERYTHING! Keep the faith @DaisyAndSunshine if you're sticking to the programme then you might well lose those last few pounds, even if it takes a while. You have done so so very well. I really want to lose about another 10 lbs although I accept that may or may not happen.

    August surgery buddies!

How are things going for you now? Are you feeling any better? I have been traveling for several days and not able to see the posts. I hope you are doing okay! I had my 2 week pre-op appt and on clear liquids now - I'm ready to get this done. I sure hope you're feeling better!!

    August surgery buddies!

Wow 5 weeks is awesome! Good for you. Sadly I can’t take that kind of time off so I’m just hoping my body works with me and allows me to push through. I’ll be back at work on the 27th. Exactly 1 week later. Do you have a pre-op?

    August surgery buddies!

Hey everyone! I’m a week post op! I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because the nursing staff wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be doing. Doing pretty well but I’m ready to move out of the liquid stage. I was up 11 pounds from my pre-surgery weight when I got home and still three pounds over today. I’m hoping I can have some puréed food soon. I’m over protein shakes!
