  1. I hope it's the right tool for you too! Hey, there was someone else on here earlier asking about the band to sleeve revision, maybe you could find them and be able to answer some questions? Good luck on your new journey!

Apparently I'm the perfect example of why people shouldn't drink! I'd better get dressed and go and find my local AA now! the most ironic thing is the user that posted this has herself had a revision!

    4 days post-op (bypass)

Girl what you just wrote sounds like ME!!!! I refuse to go to the bar, why watch people drink when I can't?! I need to focus on my mental and physical health first. I wrote this on a few other threads, but its a combination of things, acid re flux, and the surgeon didn't take enough of my stomach out. My revision surgery team said that in my GI series, it didn't even look like a stomach that had been sleeved, and it wasn't because of pouch stretching. Bad luck I guess! But, thank goodness I got a second chance. A lot of people say, "omg I would be so angry, that's not fair, etc" but I look at it like yeah it sucks, but that's life sometimes! With the bypass, I think that i will have more success, and there is less that can go wrong in my situation. He asked if I wanted to be re-sleeved and I said hell no, I'm terrified of that now. Losing 50 pounds to gain 70 is a nightmare!!! It works for soooo many people, and I am so happy for that, I am just the unlucky one I guess! But on to better things! =)

    Water....

I would talk to the principal privately about what's going on....I went to my principal to tell her about my revision I had in June, and not to share the info with my co-workers (I dont have to tell you how other women can be) and she is being very supportive....

    Pain after revision

I had my revision done Monday the 28th. The band procedure was lil to no pain. The revision was a lot more painful, but not due to the incisions but because of the gas they fill us up with. I certainly did use the PCA and was also getting the taradol. Right now I'm on the Vicodin every 4 hours. But it's getting better.
  6. Questions?

    Pain after revision

I had my band removed and revision in two separate surgeries. The band removal was a breeze. I think I took one dose of Percocet the night of surgery and that was it. The sleeve revision was not much worse and the surgeon said I had a bunch of adhesions. The original band surgery was by far the worst of the three but less of a recovery than my c-section. I'm pretty sure most revision patients will tell you that the sleeve is so much better than the band. You'll do great. Good luck!

    Trouble With Dr's Office

I just talked to her again.... she finally revised my dates with Tricare...they will update within 24hrs (I talked to Tricare to make sure she did it). She and I had a very heated conversation as to why she has been treating me so poorly, seems it boils down to me working in the same hospital system as the Dr and being able to talk to him and explain my situation and him asking her to push it through for me. She said she doesnt like having to rush anything and I should have never asked that it be rushed and just let it take its course. She said she usually has 5 days to prepare a chart and she had to do mine in the same day.... guess she's pissed at me because he understands my reasons for needing to have surgery between certain dates..... not sure. Just hope I have very limited dealings with her after Monday!!
  8. I've read that after sleeve surgery you don't have to have much pain med. .....tarodol which isn't a narcotic is what most say they are given. Is it the same with a revision? I would think after removing the band and port plus any adhesions you would have quite a bit of pain for 3-4 days. Can anyone give me their experiences? Thank you

    Bariatric to Cosmetics

the year out im aware of. Revision is this july & im expecting Cosmetics Fall of 2019 so more then enough time.
  10. I will try to make this short as possible. I had a Sleeve done Oct' 2015. During spring 2017 i started to consider cosmetic surgery everything changed with weight loss. Along the process the doctors ive gotten consultations with they told me my BMI was still too high. By the beginning of 2017 i had already hit a plateau so i started to do pouch tests, different diets, and add new tips to help me lose more weight. Someone along the way mentioned revision i had no idea what it was or heard of it. I did some research and contacted my original Surgeon from my sleeve i love him and his staff. fast forward here i am just completed my pre op exams and testings for a revision this month everything will be submitted to the insurance company . my goal id for 6 months post op my revision go for another consultation and have full body work done. among getting ready for my revision sleeve to bypass, ive still continued to research for surgery and post op care. Looking to have : 360 Lipo, BBL, Breast lift maybe w/ implants , TT, arm lift. Looking to have Surgery Fall 2019, internationally. it will be out of pocket 100%. Anyone have post op Bariatric tips to help transition into getting ready for cosmetics?
  11. I hope some of the others pop in here. I've chosen to stay on my Prilosec, and not wean off of it. The long term side effects are truly minimal, and I'm not willing to feel like crap just to avoid popping a Prilosec. I know there's a few around here that have had success getting off the PPI. I am not willing to deal with rebound acid, or any of the other symptoms of acid reflux. I didn't have reflux before my revision, and I don't plan on suffering from it now. My surgeon agrees that me staying on it is not an issue. I won't even test the waters to get off of it. Some patient's reflux improves, or is resolved, and others have it worsen. It's kind of "luck of the draw" on this one in my opinion.

    Bye Bye Band Buddy

Aw...gee Melinda. You did everything right and still came up short. Thanks so much for letting me know about this. This was a good lesson for me. I started to think that complications are the results of not following protocol and I see that I'm wrong. Good luck to you and keep us posted as to whether or not the plication helps or if you revise to another WLS. Liz

    Problems with MGB

I had the same thing happen to me. I am hoping for my revision June 10. Severe reflux, a large pouch on the sleeve and a hernia. When I was complaining of the reflux my doctor said it was my fault because I gained weight. I have something sticking out of my stomach and he just said I don't know what it is. Thank God he did an upper GI and Endoscopy and found my problem. Sent from my LGLS991 using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. In my early 30s (~220s lbs.), I knew I was in big trouble. Serious comorbities. Monthly ER visits. I was a thin child, a thin teenager but after a horrible thing happened to me, like many others, my weight became my shield, until it didn't... No diets, pills, injections worked. I didn't have the funds nor insurance then but as soon as it was available, I went for it. That's why I am so thankful for the opportunity to have had it. So many people could only dream of it as it is expensive, especially back then. I was in my 40s with lots of comorbities, a little over 300 lbs when I finally got the chance. I'm in my 60s now. I am healthier now than in my 20s. I have had a revision due to a slipped band, then another due to gerd but I never complained about it, as I am so gratefulful I had the chance. Because if it, I haven't been anywhere near 300 lbs nor have I had serious comorbities for 15 years.

Geri, your story is nearly my story. My band was removed yesterday. I'm working on insurance requirements. Revision will hopefully be scheduled for November. I haven't committed to sleeve or bypass, but leaning towards the sleeve. Sent from my SM-T560NU using BariatricPal mobile app

    Nervous

That's a great point about changing course and avoiding future medical issues. I got a revision to SADI DS in May. At the beginning of the year I had to get a MRI for hip problems. I also had serious high blood pressure. My family has a history of diabetes and with my morbid obesity I'm sure I would have developed diabetes if I made no changes. So far this year I've lost 82 lbs. I have almost no issues with my hip now. I've reduced my blood pressure medicine from 20 mg to 2.5 mg. My last two weeks' readings have been perfect.
  17. I had a sleeve to MGB revision a few years ago and have had nothing but problems with severe reflux ever since. Does anyone else experience this? It started about 3 or 4 months after with just general reflux in my gut that was remedied with over the counter medicine. It's now so bad that Im seeing a specialist and have to have a series of tests to figure out if they want to perform a new surgery. I basically have reflux so bad that I vomit bile on an almost daily basis and if Im not eating constantly, it just gets worse and worse. I knew reflux was a potential side effect, but had I known it would get so bad that I need another surgery, I don't think I would have ever done this. A couple years later and Im just as overweight as I was and in severe pain on a daily basis. Please understand Im not trying to discourage anyone from surgery, just trying to see if Im the only one. I know these surgeries have great success for so many people

    Tummy Tuck 8/21

I have a FDL and it's healing really well. I also had a ton of skin above my navel and a regular TT wouldn't have taken care of it at all. I'm actually having it revised in my next surgery to take more/extend it a little higher as I still have loose skin there even with the first FDL. I can't easily post pics from my work computer, but I can later if that would be helpful. As far as needing help, I think after a couple days you should really be okay especially without any muscle repair. Just take it very easy.
  21. Hi! I’m new on here but I have a question. I had my sleeve done January 2020 and was very happy with my results and so glad I did it. I have lost 135 lbs and want to loose another 20-30 lbs more. Now being out 15 months I have developed heart burn, acidic reflux which at times is horrible. I have had heart burn in the passed but infrequently. The GI doctor has done an endoscopy and took biopsies plus stretched me as pills and food were getting stuck in my throat. Now I have this horrible pain after I eat anything like chicken, pork, fish and red meats. I don’t cook with spices, onion, or garlic. The doctor has given me different meds but nothing has worked. Right now I’m on Protonic 40 mg 2 times daily and Pepcid at night. I had an abdominal ultrasound which they found no gallstones but an minimally enlarged spleen. By the way had my gallbladder was removed 37 yrs ago. I was told by her nurse practitioner that the next step is to have a revision. Is this correct? Is there anything the GI doctor or Bariatric surgeon can do before this? Can anyone tell me about the revision? Does it hurt worse than the sleeve? Everything is basically the same as the sleeve except of course the surgery itself? Thanks in advance.

    I am sleeved

So glad to read this. I am also a banded plication revision patient so I'm pleased to see that someone has successfully revised. I'm hoping to be revised to the sleeve this summer. Take care, Jenn
  23. I had my lapband placed in sep 2007 lost 80lbs, my port was sticking up seemed roundish, had revision procedure to make it flat, that was three weeks ago then doctor said it had flipped as stitches came undone internally, had surgery 7 days ago and now feel a squarish lump under my bandage then moves about 2 inches then back. Doctor on both occasions said just to eat carefully no need for mushy stage, and can resume normal activities the following day although may be tender. But even when having a fill normally he says no need for mushies or clear just be careful and eat slowly and chew as may now be tighter.

    Approval date, huh?

This happened with me. The surgeon office puts in an anticipated date of surgery and when they actually schedule it they send a revised letter with the actual date. I am sure your surgeons office can tell you more.

    June 5 I will be de-banded

:eek:Everyone I know that has has the lap band.. Has been dis-satisfied with it ! In most cases.. it does what it is supposed to, BUT.. the side effects are the HUGE negative. When I was contemplating My choice of surgery, I very quickly Ruled out the lap band First off, The next "OFF my list" was The D.S. !! I then thought i needed the Mini-Bypass, ( I chose Dr.Alberto Aceves, BTW ) And he voiced his concerns, With my BMI ...saying,.. At my weight at the time..He didn't feel it was safe to perform the Mini ByPass, and Then Suggested I consider the gastric Sleeve, .. SO.. I did some more research.. and agreed the sleeve was for me.. It was less Invasive,.. NO FILLS or adjustments, Less risk, Faster recovery, And what I liked the best.. None of the mal-Absorption issues or Dumping syndrome. It has Now been 6 month since my Gastric Sleeve, And I have lost over 115 lbs !! I am eating healthier, and am OFF all The Meds I was On !! and I don't need that #$%ing C-PAP machine.. which i could Never use anyway ! I have 2 close friends.. That are getting a revision.. ( removing their bands and getting the sleeve Like me ! :biggrin:THANK YOU DR. ACEVES !!!!!:tongue2:
