cheese, avocado, hummus, greek yogurt, Peanut Butter, spinach dip, refried Beans, soft scrambled eggs with cheese, chicken salad, seafood salad, crab legs, crab cakes, deviled ham.... So many better things for you than cheese-itz. You will get to the crunch, promise.

You will be surprised once you start reading the ingredients. I just looked at a yogurt the other day. I thought the sugar was from the strawberries, but no, it had "cane sugar" listed. There is so much added sugar in everything. It's ridiculous.

I had no idea about this, thank you. Ok, so then really, the only thing that was an "issue" was the sugars in the yogurt? I'll have to ask my nutritionist tomorrow when I see her about how she wants me to track fruits. I've been just looking at the grams of sugars, not the ingredients.

Maybe this can help someone.

Heres the avocado cilantro greek yogurt dressing. Makes a little container full to last you the whole week. I only add like a tbs to my fish with some chopped up tomatoes taste very yummy. Some times i add a little chopped up cucumber as well. (I also use just a little minced garlic not garlic glove) -
Not losing anything? ?
BLERDgirl replied to tnf0920's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are doing fine. I probably could eat more calories, but since I have quite a ways to go, my nutritionist and I agreed to keep my calories low. I don't however eat diet food of any kind. The closest I get is 0%Greek yogurt. Otherwise, cream, butter, etc.... are all eaten in moderation. You work out also sounds pretty good. You are getting your heart rate up and it sounds like you are working out at least 30 minutes a day. Part of this is learning our bodies and how it responds to the changes in diet and exercise we are making. Once you figure that out, the weight loss will happen. -
Hi! I also eat pretty much everything, except for doughy breads. I am hesitant to order red meat out, since it sometimes gets me stuck. I tend to order fish when I'm out, since I love it and it goes down very well! Bread is fine if it's crunchy or toasted, tortillas work decently well, and very thin crust pizza also works. As a general rule though, I steer clear of breads. I get full fast enough that I'd rather eat something else most of the time! During mushies, I really enjoyed healthy Soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes (with Greek yogurt as sour cream), mashed yams, and fat free refried Beans with cheese. I have some good soup recipes posted on my blog if you're interested. Hope that helps! :smile2: Catherine

I am four days out and am living on tomato soup, popsicles, pudding and yogurt. I am so tired of the sweetness. But, only a week to go until I can try mushies. I have had no problems so far. I can drink plenty, eat a whole popsicle or pudding with no problems. -

Anyone else banded on the 9th and how are you feeling? __________________ I was banded on the 9th. I'm feeling pretty good. It hurts to get up and down and I'm trying very hard to relax but I notice when I don't do much the gas builds up and hurts, So basically it's off and on with the gas but I'm absolutely not eating enough. All I had today was water (which I need to gulp but can't) 1/2 of the cream of wheat that the instant package holds. 1/2 a yogurt, 1/2 protein shake (nasty) and that's it. Were you also banded on the 9th and how are you doing with it?

I'm so ready for them to go to preschool, because of the "effing threes". I like that. My mom called it the terrible twos, and even worse threes. She helped raise my twin neices. They're 18 now. They were identical. Sounds like you and I both got fraternal. I think you made a good choice. I however have had a bad day. Tomorrow's another day. I ate a lot of doritos. Not in a few minutes, but I was and still am quite uncomfortable. I am angry at myself. I'm tired (don't know if it was the type of food or what), and above all, I'm very disappointed in me. I went thru so much to get the band, and I screw it up? Why???? Because it's been an extremely trying day. Matthew has done nothing but cry (he's the one with CP), Michael is sick, and clingy. I've not had a decent meal all day, because how can one eat a real meal with two 2 yr olds tied to your hips? Seriously calorie wise the doritos probably won't hurt my count, as I had about 3 bites of Breakfast (small small bites of a 70 calorie yogurt), and no lunch. BUT I got no Protein in. I made a horrible food choice. But it's 5:19 pm here... and as of 5 pm, it's on to a new hour... and on to bigger and better things... bigger in fun, better in food choices. Teri

I have posted this on several threads but I felt I needed to share: Oh my! I just made the most awesome protein shake. Pumpkin Spice Protein shake: (sorry, I didn't measure the ingredients) 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder about 2 TBS of Vanilla yogurt Some canned pumpkin Splash of milk Pack of Splenda Cinnamon Ice Blend to perfection! So creamy and yummy!!

I've mixed Peanut Butter, No suger added Nesquick, and several other ingredients with it before. I also mix mine with Almond Milk... lower carbs than skim milk. But here are two of my favorite blends so far 1 scoop vanilla Protein powder, Almond Milk, Nonfat Blackberry yogurt, 3 pineapple chunks and a few ice cubes, then blend it. And 1 scoop vanilla protein, Almond Milk, and Nonfat Lemon yogurt, ice cubes then blend.... reminded me of a lemon pie the first time I had one.

Question: How do you know if your getting enough food in a day?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Med1862's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery same day. On my follow up I was allowed to start with soft eggs, refried beans, cream of wheat or rice, malt o meal, low fat or non fat cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, canned fruit unsweetened and make sure it is peeled, sf pudding, laughing cow cheese. I try to keep more to the protein side, and I make sure I get at least 60 gms of protein, protein for you though should be higher. Starting now, I can have string cheese, deli meat, baked, broiled, grilled fish or seafood, water packed tuna, light or reduced calorie yogurt. I'm actually taking this from my nutrition guidelines provided by my clinic. They give up a notebook, outlining what to expect, what to eat, where we can get it. Great reference. I still try to avoid potatoes as it causes my BS to raise, but have tried some. Also states in the book to have only about 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup, also I see soft cooked green beans and soft cooked carrots. Deli meat is 1 oz. Tuna is 2 tablespoons with light mayo or miracle whip. Hope this gives you some idea and helps. Just make sure to stay hydrated that is the most important, without fluid you are gone in about 10 days, without food it is about 30 days. -
Greek yogurt and well chewed low fat mozzarella cheese sticks. Set a timer for 25-30 minutes. Eat very slowly. Don't forget no sipping with eating. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Going back to work tomorrow & NERVOUS!
Sue Magoo replied to anewlife10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi: If it's on your doctor's list of recommended foods, take along some low fat, or no fat yogurt. Goes down pretty easy and doesn't get much more convenient. Good luck. You may be tired for a few days, but it'll be good to return to your routine. Sue -
Question about what food to eat.. 8th day post op June 2011 bandsters Help!
Genevieve D replied to Genevieve D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I know... my nutritionist told me its ok to have yogurt the 4th day.. I started reading the forums and found out that some didnt drink it till a week later.. I was bloated yesterday from the protein shake and got so paranoid and called the doctors office upset lol! But he told me supposedly its ok.. people telling me different things.. Im kinda getting confused so I stopped the yogurt and its my 9th day and Im still in clear liquids haha... so scared to feel bloated again or mess up my band. Plus I dont mind being in liquids for a while as long as I will be ok.. its my 9th day and I already lost 7 lbs! Yey! My only problem is my obsession with the scale lol ....................... and sucked on a cheetos puff... ( HeyJust wanted to taste it k lol ) I will agree to be in liquids forever as long as I have cheetos puff lol! -
I sometimes mix a TBSP into my 6oz container of plain Chobani yogurt add a few splendas and you have peanut butter fluff...yum.. I usually do it if I'm wanting sweet and sometimes I stick it in the freezer for a little bit which makes it sort of like ice cream.

mmmmm....Optifast...or I prefer calling it Optifamine. I did not perform preop, but this was one of my many yoyo diets I did a couple times for several months each. Lost 85 lbs in 3 months the first time...and 72 the second time. Put it all back and then some. It's really an uber restrictive diet where you feel like crap for the first 3 weeks or so.....but since you are only doing it as a preop prep I would suggest adding soft consistency foods to augment things. Such as yogurt, eggs, pudding, etc.....any of the things you will be eating postop on the soft diet. You're not going to hurt anything by doing this....just watch your portions. Best of luck.

Until I saw my log. I only got 35grams. Crap. Now I need to drink milk and have a yogurt before bed.

Down 15 pounds ! Almost in the 170's. Still having mashed food, so far potato, rutabaga, carrots. And I tried soft chicken today. I could of had more but I didn't want to overdue it because I also had some mashed veggies with it. I also been having greek yogurts, puddings, liquid protein shakes. Trying to stay away from soups and broths. Tired of it lol. I also started my vitamins today. My b12 strips are mint flavour and nasty for a few mins then becomes tolerable, then once I have a drink its fine. Its a challenge when I eat food I just want to gobble it all up. Funny thing I still don't feel actual normal hunger. Also my stomach bugles like crazy when I have solids. people can actually hear the gurgling. Incisions are healing. 2 of them are slightly open but slowly closing up.

Liquid Diet Day Seven (The Woes Of Travel, And Other Stories)
JennieDK posted a blog entry in JennieDK's Blog
It’s day seven of my liquid diet, and today was the first time I really struggled. First, let me say that today was a great day in many respects. My husband and I took our oldest on a college visit today where he and other students auditioned and interviewed for theater scholarships. I’m not just saying this because I’m his mom—my son did great! Some of the professors even told me so afterwards. He had such a great experience today (this was our second visit), that he decided to commit to the school, which is a huge load off of all of our minds. My son really shined today, and I’m excited about this new chapter in his life. He's going to do amazing things! Okay, now here’s the crabby part. This, as many of you already know, is just a really hard time of year to be on a liquid diet. (Though I'm sure every time of the year has its own unique challenges.) While on campus today, we were treated to lunch in a recently updated dining hall that truly is more like a collection of restaurants. It puts my old college’s microwave eggs and frozen pizzas to shame! And it was a social lunch, one that was stretched out for an hour so that we could talk to the faculty and visit with other prospective students. I felt a little self-conscious about my tiny bowl of soup (which probably wasn’t even technically on my list) as people went back for seconds. Then, we were enthusiastically encouraged to hit the icecream bar. I got another diet soda—a no-no, I know, but at least it wasn’t the icecream bar, and it made me feel like I was having a treat. After a very long two hour drive, we got back into town right around supper time and stopped to pick up my two younger kids from my mom’s house. When we got there, my kids showed off the frosted Christmas sugar cookies they made and everyone endulged—except me. Now, I can see this as a small victory, and I do, but I felt bad because my 3 year old daughter didn’t entirely understand why I wasn’t eating her special cookies. And I felt like my mom was disappointed in me too. Maybe it was in my head, but she kept looking at me like, “Come on, Jennie, just eat one, for your kids.” Then Mom continued to talk about how excited that she was that her favorite pizza place was moving back into our neighborhood. I got out of there as quickly as I could. As soon as I got home, my phone was ringing. My little sis, who lives 3 hours away, is hosting a girls weekend at her place this weekend. It’s the first time she’s had many of the girls of the family down to visit since she moved there, and she’s especially excited because she has a beautiful new home and it’s all decked out for the holidays. Plus, she’s newly pregnant. If you haven’t noticed already—backing out of the trip is simply not a possibility. She is really supportive of what I’m doing, but in her defense, she’s been planning this weekend for a while, and certainly not just for me. So on the agenda for the weekend: a winery (and I LOVE wine—it’s kinda my thing), a local festival of fresh baked goods and Christmas crafts (the crafts should be cool), and then out on the town for dinner in Kansas City. Sigh. This is going to be a tough week, I can tell. But, here it is: I have 7 days left, and A LOT to do. I have to get sub plans ready for the 9 days I’ll miss work, and I pretty much need to have Christmas shopping and wrapping done before I leave town Friday. I teach a college night class, and the grades for that are due next week, and I have to take my student group out to buy gifts for ten area needy kids that we “adopted” for Christmas. I’m hoping that I’m so busy, I won’t have time to lament the loss of real food. Though this weekend will be tough. I’ll just have to keep focused on my surgery. It will be here before I know it. Writing this all down has really helped me get my head around where I am emotionally today. Maybe I wanted to eat more today because, even though it’s a really wonderful milestone, there’s something very bittersweet in my son’s final selection of a college. This is exactly the kind of thing that I would have celebrated by going out for a nice, high calorie dinner! And maybe it’s bothering me that I don’t feel as supported by my extended family as I wish I was. But on the other hand, I’m never going to change them, and I love them how they are. I’m sure I drive them nuts from time to time. And my husband has been amazing. He’s passing on food all the time just so that he’s not eating in front of me. He is even making all of the dinners for the kids right now, which allows me to make my shake/soup/yogurt/whatever and go sit and unwind a minute alone at the end of the day. So I have a lot to stay positive about—I’ve having the surgery, afterall. I’m only days away from something I’ve wanted for almost two years. So I just need to stay positive. Stay positive. -
I didn't throw anything in the blender or "puree" anything. At that stage I ate things like yogurt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cream soups, apple sauce.....

What was/is your Daily Caloric Intake while on pre-Op diet
HappyHomeCC replied to PalmBayTish72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 1000 cal not to exceed 20grams of fat. I could have yogurt, cottage cheese and protein drinks, sugar free pudding and jello etc
