Happy 11 month Anniversary to me

Today makes 11 months since my banding. Scales have not went down, and have went up this month. Normally I would be sad, but I'm really not. I've not done good with eating the past month, I need a fill badly, so I'm okay with gaining 3 lbs. 3 lbs in a month is acceptable to me. Here is my updates on weight: Highest weight - 248 1 mo post op - 206.8 2 mo post op - 198 3 mo post op - 193 4 mo post op - 184.2 5 mo post op - 178 6 mo post op - 174 7 mo post op - 178 - went on vacation and ate big 8 mo post op - 174 9 mo post op - 170 10 mo post op- 167 11 mo post op - 170 - havent even been trying

    Hungry in the Afternoon!

I eat a protein bar between lunch and dinner, my favorite is the Pure Protein Smore's Bar... and a plus is its packed with 19 grams of protein. I eat it about 3pm, and holds me over till dinner at 7!!
  5. How are y'all doing?? I had surgery August 19, and have done well until today! This liquid **** is for the birds!!
  6. I am 5'2" and 182 right now. That puts me at a 33 bmi. I have recently lost 24 lbs, which was a real struggle for me to lose. So, at my highest weight my bmi was over 37.5 which is severely obese. I have struggled with my weight for over 20 years. I have been able to lose, but never to my "goal" weight and I have NEVER been able to maintain that weight for even 3 months. When I regain the weight, an extra 5-10 lbs seems to come along with the old weight. Even though I have really made serious efforts, my weight has averaged in the 190s over the past 5 years. Again, for my height, this is obese/severly obese. Also, I am a very actice person and I do really watch what I eat, which makes me feel like this battle is a losing one for me without the surgery. Also, I am getting older and I have noticed that it is harder to lose the older I get. Additionally, my family history isn't good. My dad passed away at the age of 69 and he yo yo dieted his adult life as well. I want to be around for my kids and grandkids. 60 lbs. is a ton of weight for us shorties. Those are just some of the reasons that I am having this surgery. I wish people would focus on bmi and not weight. One more thing. This was a big one for me. I did a lot of research not just on this surgery, but on obesity in general. I wanted to make sure that I was doing everything possible to get healthy on my own. One of the things that I found so discouraging (that I also knew to be true from my own many experiences) is that 95% of people who lose weight regain within 2 years. After 5 years that number goes up to 98%. I would like to ask all of the people who it bothers that "low bmi" people have this surgery, to ask themselves if they want to stop their weight loss journey when they hit a 33 bmi. My guess is that 99% of people will want to lose more weight and wouldn't be happy if that is all the weight they lost. I hope helps you understand my choice.
  7. Right there with you girl! I have been stuck for almost 2 months. I've eeked out about 3 lost in that time but usually the same up and down. Although, I've been on vacation twice in the 2 months for a week at at time so there were some splurges. Not on really bad things like bread, Pasta, and processed carbs ( it's my promise to my self to not go there till the end of the year) but on some wine and skinny girl margaritas so I can get the stall from that respect. However, the inches are still coming off. my 12 shorts are getting looser and have tried on 10's but won't buy them. Although short season here in Texas lasts till Oct. but that's only another month and I do get a cheap thrill out of jacking up my britches from time to time. I'm easily amused that way. My closet is getting emptier by the day and I love it! I look forward to when I get to my goal and fill it back up with cute and stylish clothes. Black will no longer be the mainstay of my color pallet. I will have a little black dress though! I am making excellent choices most of the time and It is becoming a natural thing to do. That is the NSV for me. Ice cream? Not even tempted, the way I feel now feels WAY better than ice cream. Last week I'm on the plane on the way home, sitting there playing the the huge extra amount of seat belt material, who know it could be so entertaining? Later in the flight, I realize I am sitting with my legs crossed WITH the tray table down! How freaking cool is that? I didn't even know that was possible! I honestly have ZERO regrets and yes, we are still on the honeymoon and I fully realize the hard work really kicks in when we get to goal and have to maintain for the rest of our lives. I'm sure I will moan and complain from time to time, but I am 100% sure it will be worth the work! I'm SO happy for you and I know exactly how you feel!

    Muffin top

A friend of mine is a freak of nature. her body is ripped. She jogs 5-10 miles 4 to 5 times a week. works out with weights 4 times a week. and does hot yoga 4 times a week. of course she only works 3 days a week/ pt. She wants me to go with her but I dont have that kind of time nor am I "THAT" motivated.
  10. That's a good point, about increasing cals. I'm at my first stall, but I started exercising so I figured my body is adjusting. I've been at 600 cals. since my surgery, 10/11/12, maybe I should increase cals to 700 now. Hope it works!
  11. I took off 10 days, including my hospital stay. Today is my first day back to work and so far so good. I wish I could have taken more time though. Getting all my food prepared for the day was a chore and I keep forgetting to eat and drink. I don't have a set routine yet. As far as pain is concerned, I didn't have any once I returned home (and I have a very low pain tolerance!!!). I walk 30 min everyday on the treadmill, so my energy level is pretty good today. I say take as much time as you are allowed. You can always choose to go back earlier than planned, if you feel you are ready.

    Vegetables and Fruits

I think it all depends on how your body tolerates them. I was always a salad and fruit lover. I had to wait a full 6 months before I could eat any raw veggies. Cooked I could usually handle at around 3 months. I'm almost 10 months out, and still salads can bother me sometimes. Like today for example. I had a romaine and tomatoe salad with chicken for lunch, and my tummy is still doing flip flops. Dr. Chaisson VSG 4/7/2010 365 beginning weight 235 todays weight 75 more to go

    1 Week till surgery

I'm with you on this darn liquid diet, too. It SOOOOO sucks! I see our surgery dates are the same. Good luck! Melissa Big Lake, MN 12/10/09 surgery date lap band:huh2:
  15. I had my surgery on 7/30 and everything has been going good. Pain is alright, so I'm weening myself off of the pain meds starting this afternoon. I've been walking a lot, at least 3 miles outside because it actually helps with the pain (throughout the day). I'm on Clear liquids for 1 week, with a minimum goal of 48 oz that I have been reaching... All that being said, 8/1 I started to have BMs again. However they have been... Well complete liquid. It was manageable until about 10 last night I started having to run to the bathroom (OUCH!). My stomach area sounds like Jurassic Park and its getting more frequent. I do not have a fever and I do not have stomach pains with it. My 1 week follow up is Monday, but is there anything I can do I the mean time???? I'm seriously desperate to quiet to dinosaurs in my tummy and make my trips to the bathroom less frequent. Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Aetna approval

Every insurance plan is different. My annual deductible is 2,500(for the family). And then they pay 90%. I had already met the majority of the deductible so on the day of surgery I had to pay $300. And then I was billed for the 10% which was around 2,500. And then $1,200 for the nutrition and psych fee. Total I paid right around $4,000 for my surgery.

    Ok, the hair thing again

Oh yes, it will grow back. I lost from months 6 to 10, then it started to come back. I am close to 3 years post and you would have never guessed I had that little episode in my life.

    Daily Calorie Intake

It worked for me to eat 1500 to 1800. I guess I was a slow loser, I took 18 months to lose 85lb, but then again, I did start out with a BMI of 35 so I thought that was more than reasonable. I run an hour a day and have a pretty active daily life, and am 5ft 10, so not ever designed to be 100lb and run on miniscle portions. Really, I think its individual, its YOUR body and only you can decide what's best. Personally, I think the more you can eat and still lose the healthier you'll be, and the easier you'll adapt to a healthier lifestyle. The weight is more likely to stay off too when you're not having to live on air to sustain it. But some people just dont lose unless they really restrict their diet.

how many pounds at 5 weeks?

I lost 10 lbs pre op, 22 lbs the first month after surgery and 12 lbs the second month, so that would be 3 lbs per week the 2nd month. So, by 5 weeks post op I had 25 lbs off....35 lbs total including the pre op. Yes, it depends how heavy you were to start, some lose faster than others as well. It's very disheartening sometimes to compare, and it's our biggest evil many times in our journey. We are all 'individuals'. Good luck to you :-) Karen

    2 more days!

You go first my time is 10:30am July 28th (insert scream) So excited! I'm in Washington & your in Texas (I'm guessing) we might be miles a part but were on the same journey. Best of luck & hoping you have a speedy recovery. Let's compare notes when were up to it.
  22. @@spunkyheather I'm only a month out (surgery was 6/21), but I'm off my lisinopril for hypertension (in fact, my bp went down immediately post-op so I never started back on it after being admitted). I also have fibromyalgia and although I'm still taking the amitriptyline for the peripheral pain I have, the trigger points on my back are completely gone and I've been able to discontinue my weekly acupuncture treatments. This has made a HUGE change in my quality of life. I've also got a great deal more stamina and am able to easily walk several miles, which would have made me winded, miserable and in pain prior to surgery. It hasn't been all roses and unicorns post-op, but it's been an overwhelmingly positive experience. My only regret is that I didn't opt for this 10 years ago!

    29 and doing fine.

Hi there, Kaiser (SoCal) has a mandatory 24-week Healthy Options program pre-surgery where they teach you about the lifestyle from A-Z, and in that time frame, expect you to lose some weight. My Bariatric team specifically said that the 10% rule is out the window; and that Kaiser no longer requires that a medically supervised diet is followed. I am doing the full-food program since I already use a full-nutrition supplement 1-2 per day, and am adjusted to a partial liquid lifestyle. Currently losing about 1.5 pounds per week on my own, which puts me almost exactly at 10% total weight loss before my operation in late-December/mid-January. As I receive info, I'll post in the forums! Knowledge is power. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Eating in the Morning - Stuck

I drink a lot of hot tea, and usually have a cup, or sometimes even 2 or 3 cups early in the morning. Normal for me is eating my first "meal" sometime between 10:30 and 2:00. Anything earlier hurts, because I'm very tight early. Fortunately, though I am not hungry early on, and the tea does the trick. Lots of people use the Protein shakes, but I can't consume anything cold. My fill doc has a band, and she told me that for her it is usual to wait until maybe 1:00 in the afternoon before she is able to eat. So, morning tightness is perfectly normal for some, and for others "normal" seems to be a little different. You'll do great!!! I've just hit the 40 pound mark! Losing slowly but consistently, and I'm very thankful! (I was banded on November 12, 2007 - 40 pounds lost in 26 weeks) Kristine The Woodlands, TX

    I've lost all motivation!!

Don't fret, Diane - I'm in the exact same boat! I've been soooooo hungry lately and craving nothing but junk, which hasn't happened for about the past 10 months lol. But the past few weeks, I want chips and chocolate and BREAD! I have a feeling it has something to do with quitting smoking/starting zoloft/being so darn close to goal. We can get back on the wagon though. I don't know how yet lol, but I know its possible and when I find out, I'll come tell ya!! Oh .. and on Friday, I am having a full unfill for PS. If someone would like to come pin me down so I don't go to the Italian restuarant I've been wanting (and then to the icecream shop beside it), I'd very much appreciate it.
