    Blah...my first stall...

Maybe change up what you're eating. Your calories don't sound bad, but my dietician said to get 60-80g of protein per day, less than 50g of carbs per day, and less than 50g of fats per day. She didn't say anything about counting calories. Maybe try counting the protein, carbs, and fats instead of calories. Maybe that'll help. And chair exercises sound excellent. Any additional movement is good, although I'm finding my body holds weight if I work out too much. So chair exercises might give you the movement you need to drop weight without overdoing it. If you can't eat enough food to get your protein in, drink protein shakes and protein water. I also found protein gatorade that's sugar free and only has 1 carb, which helps with hydration and protein. While you should be getting your protein from food, at this point just getting it and hitting your fluid goals is more important. So definitely look into that and see if it helps.
  2. I hope things have improved. If you eat at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight, no matter what diet. I used to have a barium swallow twice a year when I had my sleeve, perhaps that will tell you the status of your sleeve, if it is stretched or not. That is, if you haven't already.

    Blah...my first stall...

Awww thanks Yeah, I'm pretty active on here because I love it here. The staycation was a last minute thing, and it really worked wonders for me. I'm kinda in a weird place because I have to exercise because I have MS and have to keep moving to keep my mobility and muscles going. but when I do a lot of exercising, my weight slows down. So i have to find a happy medium to do the exercising my neurologist wants (my bariatric surgeon wants me to exercise, too) while being mindful of how my body responds to working out. I've only been doing the treadmill and exercise bike. Now I'm cleared to add cardio and working with weights. So I'm trying to figure out where the sweet spot is for everything. But at least I have the food down, finally lol

    May 2022 surgery?

I stalled for two weeks! Zero weight loss during my second AND third weeks post-op. It's normal and common. Weight loss for me resumed when I started pureed foods on week 4.
  5. Feels pretty good, had a minor set back on soft veggies cuz I forgot the "seed" rule and thought I wad gonna die...so I've back tracked for a few days and feeling better. Weight loss has been slow (SW 250, CW 238, GW 150). Hoping it speeds up some, but I guess steady weight off is permanent weight off. Just thought it would be faster. First post-op visit is next Wednesday so I see what happens then. Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Hi all. Not been around for a while as just struggling with life in general. I'm 3 years after WLS now and still have my food addictions. I lost just over 9 stone in all and my weight has been stable for about a year now despite all the "junk" I now eat on a regular basis again. I can't seem to stop the crisps sweets cake and chocolate. If I run out I feel a desperate panic to go get more and although I don't and can't eat a lot at a time I will still have a bag of crisps and a chocolate bar every evening. I know its boredom as well as cravings. Even if I find myself a book to read or something to do I still want my treats in the evening. I've given into it as.my weight doesn't go up at all. I weigh every day to make sure. I think I will never get over my addiction. 😢

    Working out after surgery

Right. I'm under that same understanding that nothing but walking for the first month, then cardio, and eventually resistance training with weights.
  8. Most people have a week or 2 weeks of a pre op diet. tho that depends on your weight and BMI... The heavier you are the longer you are on the diet. You havent updated your stats on your profile. It would be helpful if you did. you can put your weight and height and the type of surgery you are getting. (Click your profile at the top right corner and go to SURGERY setting and update... but 2 months is brutal. as for having to loose 40lb. I have seen some surgeons require people to get under a certain BMI as a safety issue for surgery. but all surgeons are different with their guidlines.
  9. I didn't have to do that, but I did lose 50 lbs before surgery just through counting calories and eating 1500 calories a day. I think your surgeon may want you to lose weight to be safer for surgery if you are above a certain BMI (I can't tell from your profile). Your plan will be hard, but it will all be over in a few months, and about a month after surgery you will start to eat "real" food, although food may not taste good for a while. Good luck!

    Blah...my first stall...

The weight showing on my time line was mostly pre op. Once I had the surgery I lost 14 additional lbs by day 9 post op. Then everything came to an abrupt stop. I battle a constant lose 1 lbs then gain it back. This has been going on the whole time (5 weeks now). I have been in the office 4 times over this and an incision that wouldnt heal come to find out it was a stitch that was sticking out. So that is finally about closed and the incision looks alot better but no more weight loss. They keep telling me not to worry but after 5 weeks I am definitely worried. I go back in the office to see the Dr and dietician on 6/20. I am actually dreading it. I cannot help but feel like a failure and boy ole boy do the mind games kick in. Today I feel defeated but I know I need to reset my way of thinking with this. I battle with fluid intake and protein and I have mobility issues because of my right knee. Someone above mentioned not to let your body conform to a certain calorie intake and I think that may be what happened with me. I only get about 500-700 calories a day. Unlike you, I have no real hunger and I do have restriction and can feel it. Im not hungry all the time either, I have caught myself wanting to snoop about for something to eat and I ask myself what are you doing your not even hungry. lol So the "tool" is there and working but my body is not wanting to let loose of the weight. Im going to look into starting with some chair exercises first to move myself more and hopefully if that helps and if weight loss starts again then maybe I can get enough off to be more mobile with walking. At best I have about 20-30 min window before the knee gives out (was told I need a knee replacement). Im a constant work in progress lol
  11. You may find you can’t stand anything sweet after surgery as your taste buds temporarily change. This a good thing as it can help reduce your desire for sweet foods. I never really craved sugar but I enjoyed dessert & having something sweet after dinner every night & a sweet treat morning or afternoon snack on the weekend (I have 6 high end patisseries & bakeries in a 2km radius around my house 😱). Now, I rarely have desserts, cakes, biscuits, pastries, etc. (couple of times a year) & don’t eat chocolate or lollies at all. Don’t miss it either. Watch artificial sweeteners as they continue to feed your desire for sugar & they have lots of side effects including weight gain (makes your body hold on to calories), allergies, etc. About 1/2 my fluid intake comes from plain water. I was allowed green tea from surgery & I have a large mug (400ml) every day. I also let sparkling water go flat & I have 400-500mls a day. The mineral taste was a nice change to plain water. I was also allowed rolled oats from purée (instant to begin) & I used a lot of milk so I get extra fluid that way. I also found a good low calorie high protein yoghurt drink. (You can make your own by mixing yoghurt with milk.) Keep a glass of water beside you all the time even by your bed. It actually just becomes a habit.

Oh wow. So did you just lose weight pre op and maybe the first week post op? Have you called your dietician? Have you tried changing up your exercise and diet at all?

    Working out after surgery

I will say - the first few months were tough energy wise, and then it felt like I lost a lot of my ab strength. But, now pretty much 10 months out, my exercise game is so much improved! I'm doing those training workouts again, and back to my old weight levels (and heavier for some things). I've also added a ton more weekly workouts and it is just so much easier even as I push myself harder. All that's to say that the temporary performance set backs are quickly won back, and with extra dividends!

    Working out after surgery

I had my surgery several years ago, but I was only allowed to walk for the first four weeks. After that, I was cleared to do anything but weights. I could do weights starting at eight weeks out.

    Time to surgery

I started the process mid January and go for surgery June 20th so that’s about 5 months. Initially my insurance required 5% weight loss, then it changed to 1 pound weight loss and 6 months of nutrition visits, then it changed to 1 pound weight loss and 3 months.
  18. Bodies are weird. And exercise doesn't really cause you to lose weight. It's good for maintaining weight long term and it's essential for health, but 90% of weight loss is food choices. I would continue to track your eating and see how that goes but if you feel stuck, reach out to your medical team. It's such a struggle!

    Blah...my first stall...

I feel this rn. I've been stuck in between 250 and 252 for like 2 weeks now and it's so annoying. I started running to see if that helps since I wasn't getting much exercise in before. Thats also a fun experience as a bariatric patient...actually losing weight on vacay and having just as much, if not more fun that you would've consuming a bunch of stuff and gaining weight like in the pre op days haha Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Blah...my first stall...

Sorry I was gone and didn't respond. I was on a staycation with my family for a few days. I don't know how it happened, but I dropped several pounds while I was gone. I'm mindful of what I eat. 60-80 oz of protein per day, less than 50g of carbs and less than 50g of fat per day. I also make sure I eat half a cup or less of food per meal and weigh my food if it's not something that can be measured via a measuring cup (I make sure not to go over 3-4 oz which is what I was told I can have). I didn't do any exercise while I was gone, so I really thought I gained weight. Again, I was stunned I lost weight.

    May 2022 surgery?

I was just looking for this topic. I had revision surgery on May 9, and I was losing at a nice pace, and then suddenly I can’t get past 20 pounds. I realized last week that I hadn’t had a bowel movement in a little bit, so I started taking Colace. It started feeling like it was coming, so I tried straining. It started coming out and got stuck. I was in immense pain! I was sweating and breathing heavy. I didn’t know what else to do, so I called 911. At the hospital they offered me a couple of options. I asked if they could give me an enema at the hospital, wait a bit, and then do some “drilling.” Oh Boy! The doctor sent me home with prescriptions for Miralax and Lactulose. I had disposable gloves, which I used to go it and dig out the big pieces when they were stuck halfway out. You can get Miralax OTC. I don’t know if Lactulose comes OTC. It’s the Lactulose that really does it, but don’t go anywhere for a while. Buy overnight-size pads, because you’re going to leak. That’s the Miralax. Call your doctor/surgeon and tell them you’re constipated and stuck in your weight loss. I lost 6 pounds of poop, and I’m back on track. It took 3-4 days to get that much out.

    Working out after surgery

I don't work out at the gym, but I work out with a trainer doing bodyweight exercises, heavy weights, and all that fun stuff. It was 2 months for me - when I was first cleared for exercise I still couldn't lift more than 10 lbs, so I wasn't very motivated to do it until I was a little further out. I also wasn't supposed to do a lot of exercise (beyond walking) until I was eating at least 800-1000 calories/day consistently. And that took me a while. Honestly, between eating so little and just the natural time it takes to recover from what is a major surgery, 2 months was right for me. When I started back with the trainer, I went slow on weights and ab work until I was confident with my body being ready for it.

    Upper Endoscopy

I don’t have my surgery date yet, they are finishing up my testing and evaluations this week and next. I’m expecting I will get that (or a better idea if it will be July or August) at my appointment on the 21st. My last check in appointment (they will weigh me to make sure I didn’t gain weight) is July 7th, so I’m assuming it will be in July or early August at the latest. Do you have yours yet?

Exercise - Who even am I???

I'm 9 months out and I haven't felt like I've had more energy than before surgery until this week. I feel restless if I don't get enough exercise, and I want to work out twice a day. I'm trying to be careful and vary the exercise from day to day so I don't get injured, and I still have a tendency to inertia, but it's definitely a huge change. I notice since I'm losing weight my Apple Watch tells me I'm burning fewer calories for the same amount of exercise 😪 I know that's to be expected, but it's getting harder and harder to get to 500 calories burned in a day. Do you get hungry from exercise? I only find I am hungrier after swimming.
